  1. enall, Thanks for the reply. Again, its not a knock on your poll specifically. It is just a reflection of computer polls in general. I understand your point about giving it about 5 weeks to work it all out. But, being an analyst myself, I can't help but think there has got to be some method of making the numbers work out at the beginning of the season......not that it would be easy. Anyway, I agree that by the end of the season, your rankings are pretty darn close to where they ought to be.
  2. Not trying to slight enall, but something must be wrong with the computer model when a team like Pearl-Cohn easily defeats a team like Hillsboro, and is still behind them in any kind of rankings. I know that past performance weighs into the ranking, but once a team soundly defeats another, they should outrank them no matter the system. I am not talking about just winning. Upsets happen. You can't move someone high just because they defeat a team. But, from what I have seen, Pearl-Cohn didn't get lucky. They controlled the game from the opening gun and strongly defeated Hillsboro. How then can Hillsboro still be so highly ranked?!? Just a sanity check on the system.

My sentiments exactly. I was very proud at how hard our boys kept fighting last night......all the way to the final gun. No need for anyone from Greenbrier to come on here and pick out something as silly as a bad punt. Lipscomb is clearly an outstanding team and should flourish once again. Their offensive execution was almost flawless. That was a very physical game. I know at least one player who is beat up pretty good. And, although they made mistakes that need to be improved on, our boys have nothing to be ashamed of. The season is still early and they are showing a lot of great potential and improved execution. I really liked the way the offense ran with Norton at QB and Roger at TB. Just need to find some stick 'em for the WRs!

Bulldog, I don't know official stats, but Herndon had over 200 yards total offense last night. He had almost 150 at the half. The fact you didn't see it in the Tennessean should be no surprise to you. But, although he was the star of the game, I believe the MVP for the Bobcats last night was Hunter Norton. He played one heck of a game in some difficult situations.
  6. Twitty, I don't think any predictions are necessary.....especially after Saturday night. Our guys just need to show up and play football week after week and look to improve each time out. And that is all I would say we need to predict.
  7. I, too, was shocked to see this score. However, after reading the article on the game, I see why. Beech fumbled the ball 7 times.....twice deep in their own end. With 7 fumbles, they should have lost by at least 20 points. If they can hold on to the ball, looks like they should do well this season.
  8. Greenbrier was humbled last night by Ft. Campbell, 14 - 7. Bottom line was that Greenbrier played inconsistant on offense and couldn't come up with a solution for Ft. Campbell's half time adjustments. QB was only able to get off about half his passes because of effective pass rush that Greenbrier couldn't solve. There were some good moments for Greenbrier's offense, but just too inconstent. The biggest bright spot for Greenbrier on offense was the rushing of fullback, Clint Russell. I don't know his stats, but he had a great game. RB Jacob Aldrich also had a very good game. #52 for Ft. Campbell is everything he is billed to be.....very strong, fast, athletic LB with a nose for the football. He single handedly kept Greenbrier's offense at bay for a good part of the first half. UK will have a good one in him. On the bright side, the Greenbrier defense played extremely well. They gave up a couple of pass plays and a long punt return. That was the extent of how Ft. Campbell scored their 14 points. Otherwise, Greenbrier's defense shut down Ft. Campbell's speed pretty well. Hopefully, both the players and coaches learned a lot of valuable lessons from this one, because the schedule only gets harder! I suspect they will start working extra hard come Monday preparing for David Lipscomb. Really looking forward to that one!
  9. Greenbrier @ Ft. Campbell will be played at 7:30 pm tonight.
  10. Thanks, I knew it didn't make sense. I didn't realize we could go in and post the scores ourselves. I thought Coach T or one of the Moderators had to do it. I went in and saw how it is set up for any of us can post the score.
  11. Coach T, Is that a mistake, or did Franklin and Lincoln Co. play a day game today. I saw there was a final score of Lincoln Co. 40 and Franklin 10 already posted on the Scoreboard.
  12. When you go in Gate 4, go straight until you get to Burger King. Turn left in front of BK and go straight until you see the stadium on your left.
  13. ABSOLUTELY!!! I would be willing to pay for any publication. I don't read the NCP because it is free. I read it because I am looking for an alternative! The money is not an issue to me. Actually, I can't understand why they are still for free. I understood when they first came out to get themselves out in circulation, but how long is that going to last?!?
  14. robjim, I am not a jouirnalist and I am not an expert. I, too, don't give one flip about Murphy Fair's book or reports. They are blatantly biased and just seem to follow the same old trend year after year. I have blasted Murphy verbally to friends many times. It would take all day to cover his flaws. My whole point was to provide a counter-balance to all the "it's great" reports people were giving about the NCP high school preview. For such a small coverage area, I would have thought they would have at least had all the region members and region labelings figured out. If they were writing about East TN, I could understand the goofs, but they are writing about their own regions. The publication was fair at best. As noted above, others have found errors of fact in their publication. I would rather see them come out with their preview AFTER the Tennessean and it be correct then to come out with this half-attempt and it be first. These weren't minor mistakes like typos.....they were major errors in fact! As for the Tennessean, I don't waste my money. I even quit looking at their website. I don't want to have anything to do with the Tennessean. I would much rather read the NCP. I guess that was why I was so disappointed. The pre-views the Tennessean has provided in the past that I have read were much better than what NCP put out. As I told Craig, if they are taking their jobs seriously and want to put themselves out there as a serious player, they would take my comments as one person's view that shows they have room for improvement. I am not going to treat them like they are a six-year old playing baseball for the first time who keeps on making bad throws and tell them "good job.....keep on trying!" Additionally, this thread was about the NCPs High School Preview. It wasn't about Murphy Fair.....it wasn't about the Tennessean. I don't bother posting about them because they are old news and most everyone knows they are trash. But, the NCP is new. This means discussion about their publications are new. I make mistakes in my job and they are pointed out to me when I make them. If I responded to my mistakes the way y'all have about NCP's, I wouldn't have a job anymore. I take them, fix them and improve myself. That is one of the reasons I have been successful in what I do.
  15. Well, I think my email response to Craig Ladd at the City Paper clears up my point. -----Original Message----- From: Craig Ladd [mailto:cladd@nashvillecitypaper.com] Sent: Wednesday, August 20, 2003 1:51 PM Subject: <no subject> (Sir), There were no 3A schools mentioned because there are no 3A schools in our coverage area. The City Paper is distributed in Davidson County and northern Williamson County. That is the reason there is no mention of Springfield or Wilson Central. We were in error on the region classifications, for which, I apologize. Your observations of our 2003 Fall Football Preview are a bit harsh and completely unfounded given the information that I am providing above. Craig Ladd Sports Editor Craig, I understand now about your coverage area. I thought you were covering Middle TN. However, I am still disappointed in the error in facts of the Region Listings. When you listed the predicted finish for Region 5-4A (which should be Region 6-4A), Springfield was not in that list. My comment was that Springfield is in Region 6-4A and should have been listed in the "predicted finish" list. They made the playoffs last year and are an annual contender in that region. So, for the NCP to leave them out of their write up for that region all-together leaves one to wonder about the thoroughness of their Football Pre-view. Additionally, you included a team in that region's "predicted finish" that is no longer in that region (Wilson Central). I was not looking for a write-up on Springfield or Wilson Central as I could care less about either team. But the inclusion of one and exclusion of the other makes one wonder about the thoroughness of your report (as well as the factual errors as to what region the schools belong to (4 and 5 vs. 5 and 6). I am a HS football fan. I don't just follow my local school. I like to read about other schools. So, based on the above, I believe my harsh comments were not unfounded. And, if you are looking to improve yourself and your paper, you wouldn't take criticism so personally, but rather constructively no matter how harsh I may have been. I could have just said nothing and just laughed at you. I generally enjoy the NCP, and I want to see it succeed as I can't stand The Tennessean. But, I think you lose journalistic integrity when you put together such lapses of fact. Maybe I could have expressed myself better without coming across as "harsh", but the points I covered don't change. .....I guess you guys in Davidson County just want to do nothing but heap praise on the NCP and turn a blind-eye to the poor jounalism. I guess as long as they put something down in color and say something about your team, then it must be good!
  16. Of course I was disappointed because Greenbrier's region was not included. What do you expect?!? If the CITY PAPER expects to become big time (which I suspect they are trying to be based on all the "partners" they are making, i.e. News 2 and 104.5 FM), then they are going to have to stick their nose outside of Davidson County. Finally, I say again, if they are going to cover Nashville regions, then they ought to at least get it right as to what teams are in the region and what their region is! Maybe you were so excited that your team got a write up that you neglected to see the rest of the story!
  17. Fair enough if they are truly only worried about "Nashville" teams, but, I bet they are trying to sell to more than just Davidson County. Additionally, if they were just worried about Nashville schools, then why do they have a Franklin HS player on the cover?!? However, that still doesn't explain the other shoddy reporting done. On top of what I already stated, they put the "Predicted Finish" columns for Regions 5-5A and 6-5A under the wrong write-ups. It is not my intent to bash the CITY PAPER, but what they did put together lacked a lot of proper editing/facts that makes you question the rest of the content.
  18. I can't say that there is anything nice about the CITY PAPER's High School Preview. To begin with, they completely left off the 3A schools in Middle Tennessee. Second, they incorrectly labeled the 4A regions as Regions 4 and 5 when in reality they are Regions 5 and 6. Finally, they left Springfield out of Region 6-4A and left Wilson Central in there. Wilson Central is now a 5A school playing in Region 4-5A. And those are the things that were obvious to me at a quick glance. There is no telling how many other grave errors were made in this production. I know the CITY PAPER is new and I welcome them trying to give us an alternative to the Communist Newspaper we have in Nashville, but that was HORRIBLE! Whoever put that one together needs to go back to school and learn how to put together simple facts before they try to publish something that shoddy!!!
  19. I don't know from first hand knowledge, but the word I have heard is that Crockett had most everybody coming back from last year except their star running back. They are highly ranked in all the pre-season polls. Murphy Fair put them #1.

Coach, I fully understand. I am not quesitoning your football knowledge, gameplanning, teaching of the fundamentals, etc. If I worded myself poorly, then I apologize. I should have been more clear. I look forward to another hard fought game down at your place! If your guys are disciplined this year, we will have a hard time coming out with a victory!

Okay Coach, Let me take you back to an April post of yours....... Page High cneagles Posted on: Apr 30 - 09:37 AM Replies: 15 Views: 366 Let me start by saying that yes we underachieved last year. I think that everyone associated with the program would admit to that and agree. I do feel that for the most part the work ethic was not there and we did in fact have some selfish players. For the most part the other players did not respect some of the seniors as individuals and that caried over to the football field. My opinion is that the seniors for the most part are some fine young men, good guys that just needed to work harder instead of depending solely on athletic ability. Leadership was nonexistant. We did not play to our potential and we underachieved. It is that simple. Last year is over however. I do believe that we will be better next year for the simple fact that the players are working much harder in the weightroom. the attitude overall is better. We still have some athletes and this year I believe we will be more of a team instead of a bunch of individual players. The coaching staff will have an extra year together. It is not good to live in the past and the legacy of this senior group has already been decided as a 4-6 team. There is no way to change the record and people's opinion of this group. The burning question now is whether this years players will follow the seniors legacy or start and establish a winning, hardworking, and dedicated legacy of their own. I hope the choice is obvious but it all starts with a committment. [Edited by cneagles on 4-30-03 10:48A] Forum: Football · Post Preview: #320103 The problems you point out in your own post are a coaching problem! You make it sound like the coaches can't do anyting about the bad attitudes, etc. That is exactly what a coaching staff is supposed to do. If you need to bench someone to get a message across, then do it. If you need to kick the bad apples off the team for the long term good of the team, then do it. You can't sacrifice discipline for any reason! My comment on the coaching being questionable relates exactly to that point. There was no discipline visible on the team the last 2-3 years. That is a coaching problem. So, if I wreak of stupidity for pointing out my observations of fact, then so be it. I am not trying to put down the Page coaches, just passing on observations. For you to take it so personally indicates to me that you obviously have a guilty conscious about your coaching staff's ability to discipline your team! That is one thing I love about Greenbrier's coaching staff. They run an extremely disciplined program and hold the kids' feet to the fire in academics and after-school activities YEAR ROUND! They don't let a rotten apple spoil the barrell!
  22. EagleFan, After looking back at some of these posts between us, I do realize one thing. I need to tone down my rhetoric. In the end, even though I don't live in the county, this whole situation in Clarksville just burns my behind. I feel it is an afront to all of us with kids in TN. And, as I said, I feel as if Clarksville is my second home and is right next door to where I live now. I just feel very strongly about the 'cause of the situation. And, my argument has nothing to do with the total funding picture......just the part about extracurricular activities. The bottom line is Clarksville has serious issues with school funding and BOTH sides need to grow up and come to a realistic solution! In the end, I do hope y'all find a solution and get to continue playing past the 15th. My whole argument to you was about "who to blame". My anger is not with you or anyone else trying to do the right thing. It is with the whole political system. Good luck with this incredible mess!
  23. Bulldog69, I'll take the liberty of at least partially answering for CoachHard. No, noone has seriously challenged Marshall County the last two or three years since this region was formed with the latest realignment. That doesn't mean some schools aren't getting any closer. If everyone just sat back and kept pondering on past performance and not believing they can beat MC, then why even bother suiting up?!? I'll go back to what I said earlier. Greenbrier has the talent this year and they had the talent last year to beat Marshall County. They didn't execute on 5 plays last year and were blown out. MC had 5 plays over 50 yards to beat us.....3 from the line of scrimmage, 1 punt return and 1 interception return. However, the line of scrimmage was controlled by Greenbrier all night long! MC couldn't sustain a drive of more than 1 or 2 first downs. Unless they get a break-away long run, they can't move the ball on us! On the contrary, Greenbrier was able to move the ball pretty well in the second half. That is not to lessen the fact that MC beat our tails last year. But, that is a sign that Greenbrier can easily defeat MC if they can tackle better this year and not give up the long runs! Don't think the coaches don't know that and don't think our boys don't know that. They are focusing very hard on better tackling!
  24. Hellooooooooo....... Is anybody home?!? Your extra tax dollars would not be going to fund extracurricular activities. They are going to fund pay raises, etc. You still haven't answered the question......"Why are sports having to be cut this year if they were fully funded last year and the county received $5 million more than last year?" I know that the $5 million went mostly (but not all) to Federally mandated NCLB stuff. But, that would then leave you with a little more than last years budget. So, again, why can't they fund extracurricular activities this year when they could last? What has taken it's place?!? Until you and Dr. Husk can answer that question honestly, you won't be able to solve this problem!!!
  25. Cry me a river..... Stop pissin' in your own wheaties! You are so desperate for a solution, you just want to blame somebody.....even if that somebody is the wrong person. Go back to the "Clarksville Football" thread and see the 3-4 others who have joined in saying that the problem lies with Dr. Husk and the School Board. Even someone from Montgomery County High spoke up! If your coaches were real coaches, they would continue to coach even without the supplement. The Montgomery County coaches "banding together" and saying that none of them will coach if the supplements are taken away just continues the threat and is hurting the children just as badly as Dr. Husk is. If you truly are a coach and believe the horse manure being spouted by Dr. Husk, then who is really the politician here? Sounds like you are!
