  1. Anyone running hurdles and 100 in AAA this year?
  2. Who are the top returning 110M hurdlers in the state for AAA? Who are expected to be at state? Who are expected to post times in the 14's and what are their best times from last year. Who are the top returning 100M sprinters? What are their best times from '08?
  3. Funny! /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Glad you explained it though. I'm from THE county and often need the Jeff Foxworthy translation.
  4. Any Indian fans on here yet? I'm bettin' their involved in the Indian basketball team, hoping for a deep run this season. I'd really like to hear about your offseason (camps and such) and about Coach Watson. See my previous post. Skunk? By the way, I noticed the Charter Channel (I think) had a montage (sp?) of the Indian highlights and was running them the other night. Whoever put it together, did a good job. Fun to watch. We watched most of it as we never get to see DB play. Who will replace Ashlon Adams? You guys threw to him allot! At least the highlights made it seem that way. Also, I know you have Sensabaugh and his running style is certainly up the middle, smash mouth, thunder type running. But, with Sly graduating, who will be the lightning to your thunder? Sly looked good on the highlights as well. Sly is so quick, I'd say it 'll be next to impossible to replace him next season. Maybe Steele? I also saw a highlights show was built on the Charter Channel for Sullivan North. We watched the Raiders beat up on the SW VA teams a while. Anyone heard if the channel plans to build these highlight videos for any other teams? It would be nice to have one to keep.
  5. Not sure about who will run the sprint relays at South this year, but I'd guess The Dr., Kitz, Chuck Columbo, and Seth. Throw the Duece, Wes, and JC into the mix as well. Not sure, that's up to Coach H and I have learned to stay out of the coaching business. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> (crawdad, I'll try to give some facts from the meets as we go along, via the track and field board, but I'm really just another rear in a seat watching. I dont have any info on what's going on with football or track.) LOL! comp, you won't catch Seth on pole vault. For the pole vault, you need to start with a younger kid, not a current senior or junior. Problem is, South doesn't have a pole vault pit. (Really they dont have a high jump pit either but thats another story). So, if a Rebel/future Rebel wanted to learn pole vault, I'd say start in middle school by joining the Northeast Tennessee Slipstream AAU team with Coach Brian Buckner in the summer. Coach Vogt who coaches pole vault at ETSU is a great guy to get pointers from as well. I am betting he would be willing to point you in the right direction. We spoke a few times back when Seth was considering it for the Decathlon in AAU. Seth will focus on the hurdles and sprints this year. Since his freshman year he was spread thin on the max number of events per meet and didn't get to focus on his strengths. By the time the hurdles were lining up, he had already competed in long jump and high jump, and was dragging. Not sure if he'll run the 200. He hasn't ran the 300 Hurdles before, not that I haven't asked him to try. He seems to consider anything over 200 meters to be a distance event, hahaha! On the 300 Hurdles, I'll tell you who could run 'em. Clint Phillips. I doubt he will risk it however, coming off the late football season injury. But, Clint could have made a good one for the 300M H and the 400M. Maybe JC could become the 400m guy now that Houston Martin has moved on to playing football somewhere in Iowa. Pickwell plays basketball, but I'm not sure about baseball. He's an athlete, so I guess it's possible. I'd bet that he WILL be back again for the high jump and long jump. I personally haven't seen hops like his since Calvin Talford. He can get up. I too look forward to seeing the football boys run track. They should do well this year, barring injuries.
  6. Wow! They both have Open dates the week prior! Things'll be buzzin' in Kingsport! BTW, where are we getting this specific schedule info? I cant find anything, anywhere.
  7. Nothing official has been posted on the South side either. But, I've heard the same thing. I've heard the Rebels have DB, Science Hill, and Tennessee High at home this year.
  8. TSSAA Classification of these two? 100M Times?
  9. "Big 8", hmmm... I like the sound of that. My tounge does get tied up and nostalgic sometimes and says "Big 10" though. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I'm interested in seeing the official schedule as well. Anyone? With the overlap of track and football, I don't know when football season officially starts. As far as workouts go, I believe the Rebels are having very good turnouts. The only key players that I know of that are absent are the ones playing basketball (St.Clair, Anderson) and the ones playing baseball (Ty Garvin and I'm not sure who else). Some of the Rebels have waited until this year to take weightlifting as their PE, so they are focusing on more muscles and varying excercises during the day. Several are working additionally at home or at other area gyms in the evenings. Some have been working with trainers and I even heard the D-euce has been dragged to a little yoga! (CoachT wont allow me to write D-euce w/o the dash in there.) I can tell you that at present, since Coach Hilton has taken the helm of the SS track team, we should see the football Rebels in as good a shape as ever. The Rebels have always been a well practice-ran football team and in-shape team anyway. With football players, at any high school, participating in track, they will get an early start on endurance and speed and maybe get a little extra exposure with colleges. Allow me to elaborate... For example, when a college coach is wondering if a senior high school football player is fast enough to be recruited, wouldn't it be nice for the player and/or the high school football coach to be able to say "he ran a 10.9 in the 100M at the conference meet" or "he ran a 4.5 second 40yard dash at a combine" rather than having to say "he is deceptively fast" or "he's faster than he looks on film". Track gives the football focused student-athlete and/or high school coach the ammo when discussing speed with college coaches. Area football players, get out this spring and find your event!
  10. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> North / South / City Schools: Wow, a little time out of state and I miss so much chatter on both highschool football and local politics. It's also funny to read the Times News take on all the annexations and the new city school being built in the midst of the South-Land. The fact, that they will not speak of, is the city is strip mining Rock Springs and Colonial Heights just like they did Lynn Garden. We already have seen what it has done to North. What a gloomy day it will be if North goes away completely! I tell you this though, and this is just my opinion, if this day does come and if I had a kid that was athletic, I would really consider first moving him to South. I guarantee you if the former North zone kid come in and works and wants to play, he will be welcomed with open arms by the staff and kids at South. Also, once the county cousins from the North spent the weekend at Rebel Camp, they'd be hooked. Heck, ask Duke Moretz (from Central) what he thought about making the move to South. Great kid, I wish South had had four years of his services. No doubt his photo would have been on the wall in the weight room. The only reason I mention this whole North to South scenario, is because even with the history between North and South, even as recently as last years coin toss and lack of hand shakes, I for one believe the cousins from North WOULD be a welcome addition to the South program. Coach Carter would get them all together and they would all be.... Rebels. When you're 15-17 years old, last year was a thousand years ago. All they want in '09 and beyond is to win. DB Offseason: DB fans, sorry to highjack your thread. This has turned into a Kingsport and Sullivan County thread it seems. What can you tell us about the Indians and their summer progress? Does GC take them to college camps or 7 on 7 camps? Seems like you guys used to go to Clemson. Do you think other area schools are dropping the ball by not attending these summer team camps? Do these camps help your kids get college exposure? Watson: What's the status on Coach Watson?!?!? What a Defensive genius he is. I haven't heard anything since I heard the rumor that he might be retiring. Coacher Watson, you gave me one of life's finest memories, getting to watch 'ole Hoople ride that mule backwards over the map of Hawkins County! Ah, the '80's...**sigh** JC: comp, I've been out of the circle, but what is JC's status? Still a Rebel? I hope he realizes that this is his year to get on the field with serious PT and set himself up to be the feature back beyond. His path is up to him now at this point. The Game: Having the DB/South game back is a very welcome thing from a fan standpoint. This year's South class has owned this years DB class in years past, but as we know GC works magic on the varsity level and manages the 180 degree turn year in and out. It's going to be electric. I'll probalby get sick from the butterflies. South Offseason: Someone asked about the Rebs' summer work... I can only address a few of the Rebs specifically, as I'm outta da loop, but I know the team is working as hard as ever. I Heard Logue is throwing up bench reps with 315 now. The boys at the beginning of the South roster, numberically, are hitting the summer combines, camps, and making a few visits as well. The boys you mentioned, comp my friend, are focused. All mistakes are in the past and they are on the path. Track: comp, there is one thing you mentioned here.. that I am really interested in seeing as I've spent some time around it... Can't wait to see the boys on the track! Meets start in March. I have not personally witnessed Sensabaugh's speed since he was in middle school, so I am looking forward to gauging him. I've also seen Watterson, Bobby, and some of this South's current senior class. Let's hope for an injury free spring there. I saw Mitchell from Science Hill, in the South football game. He is real quick off the corner (stay home DEs). Haven't seen him on the track since he was on the AAU team that practies in Johnson City, that has also seen others such as Canty and Watterson (years back). Hoping to catch up with his pop at the first meet we cross paths though. Good guy. I do remember all the chatter when Curt, SH's big RB Solomon, and Greenlee from Morristown were sprinting a couple of years back. There was alot of buzz then. Fuqua from Betsy owned the hurdles in NET previosly. They are ripe for the taking now. I think there could again be a good buzz with this years area sprinters, especially since many of them are key to their respective football programs. Anyone giving odds on the NET 100M or 110M Hurdles? I prefer betting consession stand food only, if anyone is wondering, but as lean as I am you would never know it /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> . Odds? DB Vistior Stands: The DB Visitor stands are only terrible because their facility serves a dual purpose for football and baseball. With the exception of the physical metal visitor stands and their location relative to the field, everything else at J.Fred Johnson is nice. The massive new truf does overlaps for both sports however. If the Visitor stands were brought to the middle of the football field, as they should be, they would sit on the big bucks turf. That won't work as things are right now. Not only would the stand's weight and movement damage the turf, but DB would have to worry about spilled drinks and the occational spit cup getting turned over (ewww!). DB does need to find a way to move the stands to the proper place AND to protect the turf which is center field for spring. I betcha they are looking into a way of accomidating this need now... Skunk: With completion of the junior Skunks' Friday night football, and if you ever get bored with those Friday gigs, I formally invite you share a Friday Night seat, you know where. Heck, I'll buy you dinner and columbia blue hat anytime you decide to attend! Just let me know!
  11. Congrats to all the Patriots advancing to the next level. Hit those books boys... football will be a full time job in college. The new staff at UTC will make things interesting this next year. By the way, Pats fans, an honest question: did Brooks (and the other Patriot players) play against South in the scrimmage to start the year last season? Or were they involved with another sport or injuries or something? I dont recall seeing anyone of this description toting the rock. Not being an smart***. I was just surprised when I heard the good news of all the Patriots moving on to college ball. Plesantly surprised and it is very good news. Again, congrats Brooks and all!
  12. I agree... it is EARNED. My previous point was that Coach GC and staff have my respect as far as helping kids become student athletes in college. He does allot. Thus... my respect. I haven't seen a game or the coaching in s some time... can't comment on that. comp, for the record, put the Rebs in the same situation G'ville '08 again, I'd give the ball to Taylor 100 times out of 100. This WAS the right call. And I too watched that game film over and over... *biting my tounge now* comp, now you update us on Taylor in '09 and keep posting on the DB and South threads. (pssst... they play again this year!)
  13. It certainly does hurt our NET kids to not be seen by college coaches further into the playoffs and in the big game. You know the coaches want to be there in the playoffs. You know they wish that all their players could go to college and get it paid for. Comp is correct that sometimes it's being the right place at the right time. First and foremost, the kid has to do it on the field consistently. And after that, it is up to the parents primarily, and then asking for the coaches' help (the level of ability to help and the willingness, I am sure will vary from school to school). Many are willing to do what they can. Some coaches have more contacts than other. GC has been at this a while and I'm sure has the contacts. Networking and enlisting help anywhere you can helps as well. Unless your kid is a true top level Division 1 player, then it's work, as comp stated. Even Curt wasn't getting the looks to start with, even with the stats and all the ability in the world. It took a great deal of effort, traveling and getting seen on their part to jump start it. It's a tough game my friends and all I can say is put out as much as you can to the colleges that the high school athlete might want to attend. Don't neglect the smaller level schools, thinking you've got the next Bo Jackson or Peyton Manning on your hands. But, I'll say this about the local game, I feel confident saying no coach in Eastern TN does more to help a kid find a home as a college athlete, at the level of his abilities, as Coach GC does. Coaches just dont advertise what they do on here. Respect...
  14. Hmmm, Volunteer at Crockett. Well, I wasnt there but sure feel like I was. One conclusion I have come to... Stokomo is making sense here. Both programs and communities took a black eye on this one. I do find it funny to see who is sitting on the edge of their keyboard here, just loving the opportunity to down Volunteer. Down their coach and style of play if you must, hey its a free board. Rules are in place, they were broken, and the penalties were inforced. Kids from both Crockett and Volunteer will be watching the next two games. Personally, I won't defend Coach Whitt, ever. I seriously doubt he cares what we think anyway. But, I do want one thing to be said. Who of us can blame a kid, Trent, for defending himself/fighting back/what ever you deem it? He's a good kid with college ball potential. His parents are good people and they have been raising him right. In the heat of a tough game, in an already hostile enviroment, do you think all of your Vikes and Indians, or any other team player, would have just took it and "allowed the refs to do their jobs". Come on. That kind of control is seldom seen. Honestly put your players in the situation of being punched in this exact situation. What do you really think most other kids would do? Now I know there would be a few that might have the control, maybe Sly from DB or Bailee Dick from South. But 95% wouldn't stand there and count on the same refs who were not controlling the games all night. Dont crucify the kids. It could have been worse. There could have been players rolling in the lane during free throws ... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  15. Ghetto, I miss high school football! /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> When will the '09 season be here! As of right now, I am wallowing in this downtime. The '08 Rebs will soooo be missed. I miss especially miss seeing the Spin Doctor juke and then run over somebody. I've seen the top RB's in our area since the early 80's, played against "Little Man", Rocky Clay, Gary Dandridge, and Mike Faulkerson. But Taylor Fletcher has been 10X the joy to watch. If you love football, you love seeing him with the rock. Some college is going to get a STEAL! What's the latest on this year's seniors? Beedle decided? KK, Bradley, and Fletcher getting closer? I'm so outta da loop, I havent heard anything. I hope as the recruiting period draws to an end, they will all find happy 4-year homes. There's other young men that could play at the next level as well, like "I'll run through you like a paper towel" Chuck Columbo. Things will heat up and hopefully doors will open as we get into February. No matter what pans out, the Senior parents and the Reb Coaches have guided them towards a successful life. Good boys. Next years Rebels are indeed hard at it in the offseason. Better be, the schedule is killer. Logue has emerged as a force and should be on the college coaches' watch list. Garvin has always been D1. Hammonds stepped in for Beedle and also stepped up. Solt has impressed me. Ethan long will step in nicely. #10 will be healthy and back to true form. #2 working his tail off and has a real FOCUS (I wish I had a mama that would help me like that...say 60 lbs to drop or so). #1 has put on about 10lbs of muscle so far and I swear I think he's picked up speed. He's been working with the linemen some to use comparable weights. I miss seeing him on the roundball court, but football and track are his passion. Track season will hopefully be a bit of an appetizer before football 2009 hits. Coach Hilton is certainly my hero for stepping in with T&F program. Ghetto, come find us at the meets. Hope JC doesn't depart, right as he is about to step up to the plate. You don't wanna miss your opportunity in the spotlight! BTW, what's the sidekick rumor you refer to? Rebel Nation
  16. I agree. Weight room after school AND join the Track team. Young guys, look at the examples before you... Curt ran track, for one. And if you want an example of weight room results, find a picture of Jake Logue from 8th grade and then look at him now. /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> He has built himself into a true college caliber player. With Coach Hilton taking over as the T&F coach, the T&F and Football programs will be joined at the hip and working together for the improvement of all. Big boys, get out there, do the throws, get in a little extra cardio. Skill position guys, work on your explosiveness, stride, and form...and of course cardio. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  17. A basic dunk may motivate the Cougars another night, but it really means very little to the Rebels to see it from an opponent. With, hands down, the top dunker in East Tennessee, in Andrew Pickwell, a simple dunk will not impress the Rebels nor change the momentum of one of their games. You'd really be amazed the kind of NBA calibur dunks the Rebels see from Pickwell every day. I personally haven't seen anyone who can elevate and put it down like that since ETSU's Calvin Talford. /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />
  18. Thanks. I dont know Anthony to ask. Hmmm? I was told Greeneville would be at Home and Gate City was away.
  19. I've heard a great deal of talk about the '09 South schedule, but haven't seen it. Is it really out? Can someone post it or a link to it? I hear the Rebels will play out of conference foes; Gate City VA, Greeneville, and Knox somebody? Anybody? Thanks.
  20. Not sure who all is putting together a "Northeast Tennessee Team", but TriCitiesSports.com will be putting out THE team soon. Not sure if this is the Dec 11th list that CoachT speaks of.
  21. Watched all the Championship games again this year, 1A-5A. I've also seen my share of teams throughout the state. If I were putting together a 4A dream team, I cannot imagine leaving off Taylor Fletcher RB Sullivan South. Hands down, the most dynamic RB I have seen in the last 7 or 8 years. He's a Barry Sanders type runner with the ability to bull over linebackers. If you blink while attempting a tackle, you'll just catch air. Taylor Fletcher hasn't gotten all the media attention state wide, but this kid is certainly ALL-STATE caliber. Some university is going to get a steal out of Fletcher, just because he's a bit under 6'. Has all the tools. I wish someone would put a highlight film together of Fletcher and post it on YouTube or somwhere. I promise you, if you're a fan of football, you'd enjoy Fletcher's highlights.
  22. Fantastic! I hope the Rebs will all get back to work! 2009 is going to be another fun year. I would also recommend, Scott (but it's Held) at Med-Fit in the Great Body Company. Scott teaches the right way to work out, the safe way, and the results do come. Scott is also a top notch TSSAA and SAC football official. He knows what it takes. By the way, BobbyMama and dad, I really need to talk to you guys before Dec 15th. I dont have your number. Could you have #2 pass it along via #1?
  23. It was the shoes... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I just wish Track could offer college $$ like football does. But, as an example, Richmond at $49k/year... /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> Got any rich relatives? Yell at me off of here if you want to chew it all over, but I dont think any of us will find a different conclusion. It hurts.
  24. Has the 2009 schedule officially came out yet? If so, I missed it. Can anyone, who knows for sure, post it here? I'd like to know who, what week, and where. Thanks. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
