  1. ERA, Manchester was origninally known as Mitchellsville back in the 1800's. It was changed to Manchester later on with beliefs that it would be an industial power in the South. The town was renamed after the port city of Manchester, England known for it's powerful industry and commerical prowess. Also, this is the last year of the "Old Timer's Day" celebration. Some lady from Murfreesboro has taken over the city's Chamber of Commerce and has promised to do away with the event starting after this year. That too was in the Manchester Times.
  2. LOL! I still support my alma mater any chance I can get (buying ads for the football program, buying season tickets, donating cash to the cheerleaders for new uniforms, etc.) whenever I'm not dirt poor like I am now. Getting a regular discharge (not fraudulent or dishonorable) from the Marine Corps unexpectedly came as quite a surprise. Some things don't happen that you want to happen for a reason. Hmmm. . .wonder if Coffee County lost for a reason. Perhaps a shocking win over Lincoln County would stun everyone. Not saying that'll happen, but it certainly would. BigA52, is your last name Cutshaw?
  3. Gallatin and Antioch--likely to decide the Region 5-5A champion. Winner will likely meet up with Brentwood, Franklin, or Dickson County in the Final Eight of the state playoffs.
  4. Tullahoma has all the big expensive restaurant chains. They have a railroad industry. This town had all the potential to blow Manchester (formerly known as Mitchellsville) off the map during the Civil War when Tullahoma had more 75,000 residents compares to it's near 20,000 today. Tullahoma has done more to grow than Manchester has. Tullahoma has an airport. Tullahoma has a mall. Manchester doesn't have any of these necessities for growth and exposure! It has always been my dream to see this city turn into a bustling Metropolis. That's one reason why I was in favor of the Metro Charter a couple of years ago that eventually was defeated due to lack of votes coming out of Tullahoma. I think a consolidation of the school systems was needed. I think Tullahoma and Manchester could've learned alot from each other, but no, they didn't pass it. Still, this has nothing to do with football. This belongs somewhere else. The point is. I love my town enough to want to see it kick Tullahoma's rearend in size and importance, but I hate enough due to the fact that old money has kept the town small. No town with five interstate exits should have less than 9,000 residents. There is something wrong there.
  5. CHS4Life, Tullahoma still leads the series against Manchester. We in Big Red country really do not have a case to rag them right now. I guarantee you Tullahoma will be back.
  6. BTW, BigA52 (Cutshaw), how do you know me? I don't recall you ever being in my Marine Corps pool?
  7. Hey, Fuzby, what's Coach Browne doing by chance? Do you know? I was kinda' wondering about that.
  8. I did not play sports, but I was always dedicated to backing up our teams. Senior year voted runner up to Most School Spirit. I guess sometimes I just sick and tired of seeing this version of Coffee County football with numerous turnovers resulting in lopsided losses to schools who's only wins are against Coffee County. I saw enough of that crap while I was in high school, and for the past five years we've seen 62-0 losses to Oakland and such other blowouts. I mean really? What did Wilson Central do differently that Cumberland County who did in fact beat Wilson didn't?? Take a look at these stats. Without any turnovers Coffee County should've blown Wilson Central away. I don't care if you're a Wilson Central fan or a fan of any school in Region 4-5A. Congrats to Wilson for taking advantage of Coffee County's 10+ turnovers in this game! But Coffee County should have blown this team away! This game reminds me of a college game I watched here recently went lowly Kent State blew out Central Florida 36-16. UCF couldn't hold on to the ball. It was pathetic! UCF should've destroyed Kent. Total Yards Coffee 371 Wilson 199 Rushing Yards Coffee 247 Wilson 170 Rushing Attempts Coffee 33 Wilson 48 Passing Attempts Coffee 13 completions out of 33 attempts with 3 INTERCEPTIONS Wilson 2 completions out of 7 attempts with 1 interception Passing Yards Coffee 124 Wilson 29 First Downs Coffee 12 Wilson 9
  9. You will know more about Coffee County's abilities to improve after Jake Nunley is gone, but once he graduates will Ed still coach or will he leave? Will Price stay after two seasons? How long will Coffee County's AD be able to keep this coaching staff together? In the four years I attended Central we had three different headcoaches. Ron Crawford is the headcoach at Brentwood coached Coffee Co. in '94. Lebron Ferguson is/was an assistant coach at Oakland coached Coffee Co. in '95. Bert Browne is an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky University coached Coffee Co. in '96-'97. Jeff Breeden who know is an assistant coach at Riverdale coached Coffee Co. for too long being from '98-'02. You can't succeed when you are constantly losing coaches.
  10. I know I get irritated and upset with every loss and every bad year that my schools (Coffee County and MTSU) have, but I'm not the kind that would take it this far. It's still just a game. Apparently some guy tried to shoot his son in the head after his team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, lost in double overtime to Arkansas this past Saturday. :justwrestle: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1626939 Man Charged With Attempted Murder Tuesday, September 30, 2003 Associated Press PINSON, Ala. -- A Pinson man was charged with attempted murder for holding a gun to his son's head and pulling the trigger in the midst of a tantrum after Alabama's double overtime loss to Arkansas Saturday. The bullet narrowly missed 20-year-old Seth Logan, who said he picked the wrong time to ask his dad for a car, sheriff's spokesman Deputy Randy Christian said Monday. Joseph Alan Logan, 46, surrendered to police Saturday and was charged with attempted murder and domestic violence. He was released from the Jefferson County jail Sunday on $7,500 bond. "I know we take football serious in the South," Christian told The Birmingham News for a Tuesday story, "but that's crossing the line." The request upset Joseph Logan because his son has already wrecked several vehicles, Logan told investigators. "He claimed he was just trying to scare his son," Christian said. According to the police report, Joseph Logan had been drinking alcohol and began slamming doors, tossing boxes and throwing dishes in the sink after the Crimson Tide lost its football game to Arkansas, 34-31 in double overtime Saturday. While Joseph Logan was throwing the tantrum, Seth Logan asked for a new car. Joseph Logan then retrieved a 9 mm pistol from his car, grabbed his son by the collar and pressed the gun to his son's forehead, the report said. Logan threatened to shoot his son in the head, then pulled the trigger. Seth Logan moved his head just as his father fired and the bullet whizzed past him, the report said. Seth Logan fled to a neighbor's house to call police. He told police his ear was numb and his head ringing, but he was OK. Sheriff's authorities called the SWAT team after discovering the armed father still had a 13-year-old son in the house with him. Joseph Alan Logan walked out of the house with the other son and turned himself in to police just before the SWAT team arrived, Christian said.
  11. Rebelguy said: Well, in the boundaries of Coffee County you have one major high school in Manchester and another major high school in a much larger district of Tullahoma. There is nothing in Lincoln County except the high school in Fayetteville. Who do they have in their county that can take hundreds of students away to form a new high school? I don't recall any other high school in Lincoln County other than Lincoln County. Coffee County as a whole has more than 2,500 students with around 1,400 attending Coffee County and 1,100 at Tullahoma. I'm sure if T-Town and Manchester formed one high school, then you would see a power in Coffee County that could rival most of these schools, but that's not the case so there's your answer. And to answer another question. Fayetteville is larger than Manchester whether it seems it or not, it is.
  12. By bad, Footballfanatic. The fact that Coffee County apparently had to drop down in classification after the 1998 season tells me how uninteresting the Manchester area is to potential new residents. I thought the school was growing little by little but apparently it is just fluxuating up and down from 5A to 4A to 5A to 4A and so on. You see. People are moving away from this county and are taking their kids with them because of the lack of leadership in the city of Manchester to want to see the town grow. Five interstate exits and Tullahoma (no interstate exits) still is dang near three times larger than Coffee County's miserable county seat. Now explain that one. Oh, and is it any wonder that Tullahoma has pretty much owned Coffee County all these years? Tullahoma is a wealthier city than Manchester and they can afford these facilties that are characteristic of the schools in and around Nashville.
  13. shrtstop2000 said: Because Coffee County (then known as Manchester Central) got their first win against teams that just started up in the area as well such as Tullahoma High, McMinnville Central, and Murfreesboro Central. We were all young. Coffee County has sponsored football since the early 1920's and now you are telling me they are getting beaten by brand new teams? That just tells me how bad things are in Manchester. Wilson Central's first win should've been against another new program like Siegel or Ravenwood, not against one that has been sponsoring football longer than Lebanon has been a township! But alas, as the city of Manchester dies economically so does the money and so does the desire to live here. Coffee County will never be able to beat Wilson Central ever again. I hope somebody in Coffee County's administration is listening to this. What Wilson Central has just as Siegel will soon have is lots and lots and lots of money to produce better facilities to tone and shape better athletes. Like I said before, Coffee and Warren County should try to schedule 10 games against the worst teams in America only both of these schools have been on the list of America's worst high school football teams on more than one occasion so it would be very hard to find many that they could actually beat!
  14. Silk3, why don't you mind your own business? Furthermore, I have constantly congratulated Wilson Central and kissed up to them ever since they embarrassed my alma mater. So I ain't cryin' about anything aside from the fact that being close to a large city produces better football teams! And being in junky cow pastures like Manchester doesn't produce squat! Wilson Central's first win should've been against Siegel, but no, it just goes to show you that when making history in the worst ways whether if be ranked last in America in all of Class 5A football or giving a brand new school their first win after 2 1/2 seasons Coffee County/Manchester knows how to do it! Wilson Central can pride themselves all they want, but they are just another school next to Nashville that will continue to rise just like everyone else near the state's capital as these teams of Class 5A in southeastern Middle Tennessee and along the plateau continue to fall--with the exception of Lincoln County. I'm sure Coffee County will never find victory against Wilson Central as long as that area of the state continues to grow exponentially and schools like Wilson can upgrade facilities and get more kids to try out for their team. Yeah, Wilson Central won, but every other team that beat them was good with the exception of one school they should've beaten--Cumberland County. Wilson Central can pride themselves in this win all they want. It won't change the fact that Wilson is in an urban section of Tennessee that breeds great 5A football while Manchester sets on a cow pasture where the local high school team has been last once in the past five years in all of Class 5A and second to the other four times! You are talking about a school who went 7-43 in the past five years, Silk! It's not like Wilson actually beat somebody that was good or is used to winning! It is the fate of this high school to produce bad football until this old money in this town passes away and people with vision step up and make this place grow.
  15. Lincoln County 56 Cookeville 7 Franklin County 42 Coffee County 20 Cumberland County 48 Warren County 0 Book it!
  16. You know Fanatic4Football. I attended Coffee County High School from 1994-1998. We were very lucky to be in my high school class. Because Coffee County won more games from the '94-'97 seasons than in any four year stretch in the 1990's up to now. In 1994 we won four games against Lawrence County, White County, Grundy County, and Warren County. In 1995 we won four games again. This time against Oakland, Cookeville, Warren County, and Hendersonville. In 1996 we won two games--Tullahoma and Shelbyville. 1997 we won seven games--Oakland, Cookeville, Smyrna, Warren County, Franklin County, Lincoln County, and Shelbyville. 17-24 in those four years. Still unimpressive.

  18. No, Browne left because he got a better job. I mean, seriously. How does continuing to coach high school in a small town with low pay compare to coaching at a Division 1-AA college football power from the Ohio Valley Conference?? IT DOESN'T!! The only way a coach would stay here more than five years is out of sheer determination and motivation because it sure as heck isn't the pay! Okay, yeah, I was hopeful. But what do you say when Coffee County loses four of the next five games (winning only against Warren County) and Wilson Central's only other win is against Siegel? That's a realistic possibility!! It could happen more than you know. Then what do the critics owe Coffee County?? Answer? NOTHING! It would only add to the history of the football team as a team that's supposed to make history in the worst ways. And BTW, I hate the way my hometown has dealt with development! Yes, it bothers me. I'm for progress but you have these old people in Manchester trying to prevent that! Manchester lost a realistic shot at an International Airport a long time ago. I remember reading about it in some tidbits and stuff about the town. Oh yeah, and another one the city of Manchester lost was when they were too partial against college kids and what they would do to the area so the ones heading up the project to build the new Middle Tennessee Normal College to be finished in September, 1911 decided to move on up highway 41 to Murfreesboro! Of course, now that college is known as Middle Tennessee State University! So, yeah, I hate the way our little cow pasture is being handled!
  19. Region4fan, they cannot help it that their fate paired them with the local high school of the city of Manchester, Tennessee. I don't fault the kids that play for the team. I don't fault the coaches, the administration, or anything or anyone that has to do with the high school. It's just that we do not have the money in this slice of paradise we call Manchester to help support our area schools to build better facilities such as a state of the art weight room or anything else that could be used to aid players to success. They have all that crap at Riverdale. That have that at Gallatin. They have it at all those schools in Nashville/Davidson County and in those schools in counties that surround Davidson!! There's money in Northern Middle Tennessee that aids in producing great athletic teams. Plus, you look at the per capita for per square mile in those areas. Those schools have enough people try out for their teams to field ten complete teams or more! Coffee County barely has enough people try out to field one team!! So no, it's not the kids that play the game, it's the city that backs them! And ours is a small cow pasture sitting along a major interstate!
  20. Fuzby said: Hmmm. . .I don't know. Who's to stay he will stay more than 15 years in Manchester which is how long it would take to start seeing some progress. I mean, Bert Browne had only one great season in Manchester and then rode off in the distance to take a coaching job at Eastern Kentucky University! Region titles overnight. . .hmmm. . .Coffee County can't even have a winning season! They've only had one winning season in nearly 25 years for crying out loud! Having a winning season apparently doesn't occur overnight either!! Picking up 6 wins is too hard for this program in this area of the state!! And who's to say they'll do it this year. Warren County looks like the only team Coffee County will beat. The other four teams are rated higher in the power ratings than the four teams Coffee County beat!!
  21. We can be supportive of our team, but we don't have to expect wins from this school who has second to last in all of Class 5A four times in the past five years. And that one time they weren't second to last was the season they lost to Warren County and then they were DEAD LAST! Look at the schools you listed. Riverdale and Oak Ridge are former state champions and Hillsboro played in the state title game last year! Franklin County? What have they done? McMinn County? They've always been good. In fact they've kicked Coffee County's rearend on more than one occasion from the 1997 playoff loss to repetitive Tobacco Bowl losses way back when. And McMinn County has been in the playoffs alot more times in recent years than alot of teams. Coffee County doesn't have that kind of influence. Yeah, I want to see them win. I want to see magic in Manchester more than anyone, but where exactly has it been in the past 25 years?? Coffee County will NEVER in a million years make it to the BlueCross Bowl. Jesus Christ will return for His children before Coffee County wins a state title in football. I'm not being critical, just realistic! The only bowl Coffee County can conquer is the toilet bowl.
  22. UTDontPlay said: Yeah, but do you know what it's like to see your school ranked last in your entire classification?? What about last in the entire state in all classifications combined?? Coffee County has sure been there. BTW, the only reason why Coffee County is 4-1 is because they've played some of the worst team in the state!! Mind you, Cumberland County and Tullahoma should've beaten Coffee County! I'm almost willing to bet money that Coffee County doesn't win another game until the season finale at Warren County! 5-5 record still doesn't top the 7-4 record of 1997. Also, Red Raiders were 7-43 in the past five years so don't even tell me about how bad your high school is. Our football program in Manchester will die with the town!!
  23. Excuse me, UTDontplay. Your alma mater didn't just get humiliated by a football team who was 0-24! Your alma mater hasn't been the butt-end of Class 5A since it's existence and your school has had more winning seasons than mine has! And before you ask me to tell you what high school you do or did attend, I'll tell you I don't, but I can tell it isn't Coffee County and that's all that matters here! Coffee County's only hope at a good football season is to look across this vast nation of ours and play the ten worst teams in American High School Football, but I'm sure you won't find many ranked below Coffee County except for maybe Warren!!
  24. UTDontplay, you actually used Mapquest to give some insight on my thoughts? Oh my GOSH! I guess you don't know what a metaphor is, do you? It's when you say something but mean something else! That "30 miles" bit was supposed to be an expression in reference to Nashville and the towns in the counties that touch Davidson County!!! GET A CLUE! It's only a matter of time before Coffee County becomes the rearend of another whipping to another Murfreesboro school! Tell me, smart guy!! When is the last time a school in Class 5A or the largest classification at the time won a state title in football that does not fit the following criteria: 1. Exclude West and East Tennessee Schools 2. Exclude Lincoln County 3. Exclude any school in Nashville/Davidson County 4. Exclude any school in any county that touches Davidson County (Robertson, Cheatham, Williamson, Wilson, Sumner, or Rutherford) 5. Exclude Dickson County too since that county is close enough to Davidson County only separated by a thin stretch of Cheatham County YOU WON'T FIND MANY IF ANY!!!
  25. Oh please! GIVE ME A BREAK! 3-5A is so predictable it's not even funny. Lincoln County could beat everyone else on their schedule 100-0 if they wanted to. Let's see. Coffee County against Franklin County? Uhhh. . .Coffee County gives (supposedly) the second to worst team in 5A first win ever. Franklin County blows out Tullahoma and Cumberland County while Coffee County had to come from behind against both and lucked out against both! Now you tell me? And Warren County doesn't stand a snowball's chance in heck of scoring on Cumberland County, much less winning against them! Except for Lincoln County there are no decent programs in 3-5A and includes my high school, Coffee County. It's not the kids that play for the school and it's not the coaches. It's not even the adminstration at CCHS that is responsible for Coffee County's sorry excuse for a football program and it's continuous fall from prominence that it once had in the 1950's and 1960's!! It's just that Coffee County plays in a town of 8,000 residents that is dying due to poor leadership and selfish old people who don't want to see the city grow. So people pack up their industries, corporations, and families and move to Murfreesboro and Brentwood and places that actually are great places to live with plentiful jobs and lots of money! And lots of people in one area brings a greater probability that the athletes in that area who are going to compete in the area in their high schools. I mean, what other schools are there in Lincoln County other than the high school in Fayetteville? How many schools in Lincoln County participate in high school athletics? Compare that to Coffee County who has one 5A football team with AAA teams in other sports and one 4A team with AAA teams in other sports! I think alot of the reason why Coffee County did so good way back when was because are little cow patty we call Manchester was about the same size or at least not as far out done as it is today by cities such as Murfreesboro and Brentwood and Franklin and Gallatin and Lebanon and Antioch and Smyrna and Hendersonville! Face it, while those cities grow, Manchester shrinks out of existence and so does the area sports there! And as long as those other cities are growing, Manchester's product will never win so much as a region title ever again.
