  1. It's directly across the street from Page High.
  2. Football is much too much fun to ruin it with disagreement. I should have thought to tell you I would be there...I could have bought you a coke! Your crowd was wonderful and the game was fun. I hope you guys have a successful season!!!
  3. Very proud of our Patriots! Plus, I love to see an underdog win once in a while. Thanks to our classy hosts, White House! Good luck the rest of your season.
  4. Man, no truer words were ever spoken: "A team that gives the other team half their pts needs to get better." Lots of attack errors again on Page's part.
  5. So do those schools play in Div II? That way of doing things just doesn't seem right, even if those teams are in Div II.
  6. I reread your post and I apologize for being incorrect. It was DaddyJuice that said " BUT, if a student accepts financial aid he/she can not particiapte in TSSAA sanctioned sports in the public sector. Knox Cath does still offer financial aid, but none of its student-athletes can accept it."
  7. I'm ok with someone trying to find out what is going on. Fieldman and DaddyJuice both said that atheletes can't accept financial aid. Bratmav was just checking it out. It's possible that the nice lady on the phone was wrong. When there are so many rules, people can get confused...case in point...the Ravenwood football team dressed out in pads before they were allowed to. They got sanctioned by TSSAA for it. It was simply a mistaken reading of the rules by the coach. Perhaps more questions need to be asked to find out what the rules really are.
  8. I don't think R.Reagan was good for America, either. My simple thoughts on club...club ball is the best exposure for players IF they have the endurance to play nearly year round and not get burned out. And AC is always in the hunt because they have 4 coaches. All 4 obviously well qualified (ooooh - that leaves a bad taste in my mouth) to teach excellent vb skills. Most teams have 1 coach with a math (or some other) teacher (mostly unqualified) to help as an assistant. That is why they can get away with not having so many club girls. And I still like your top 10. I'll edit to say that my bet is that most of the top 10 list in the original post have better than average assistant coaches.
  9. As hard as I try, I can't disagree with your list!
  10. I thought all along that Coach Brock ran Dig-to-Win. People have always had really nice things to say about him as a person and a coach. This will come as a surprise to me if true.
  11. I love your pro-active manner!!! Hope we see it in the paper soon.
  12. Serley is at Independence with the Perilli twins, Liz Powell, and other really talented vb players. Aren't they going to be fun to watch this year?
  13. Below is the USAV website page with the team. Wycheck's daughter D1? She is not very tall yet. That will hamper anyone with D1 hopes. Besides, there is a ton of good VB in other divisions. http://www.usavolleyball.org/juniors/06_Girls/06gjo_15.asp
  14. Impact 15 Teal, which is made up of middle Tn. players, won the USAV National Championships in the National Division. 3 were chosen for the All-Tournament team: Nicole Smith (Page), Alison Woods (Centennial), and Samantha Serley (Independence) is the tournament MVP! http://www.usavolleyball.org/juniors/06_Girls/06gjo_15.asp Congratulations! Thanks for representing the state of Tennessee in such a spectacular way!
  15. rc, it sounds like your wrestlers are in good hands with you as their coach. No one that has been where you've been with Cody comes out unaffected. That doesn't mean that we need to mandate testing. We just need to change the intensity with which we do the things we can do as parents and community members. And pray for wisdom for our young people.
  16. OK, rc, I went back and reread your original post. The child that died from the overdose was not in any way your fault because of the one time you did not talk to him at the basketball game. He was high at that game and would have remembered nothing of what you said. You might have called his parents and told them of his condition but it is 99% likely that they wouldn't have been able to do anything about it either, except to send him off to a rehab against his will when he sobered up. Chances are that they already knew about his drug habit. It might be the case that teachers and admin DID talk to the parents and they just didn't do anything or perhaps they didn't know what to do. Perhaps, in your community, this boy's death has helped parents see that they need to know what their kids are doing with their lives (as much as possible). I, myself, have made friends with a few teachers in my children's high school and I come right out and ask them to keep an eye on my kids and that they need to tell me if they suspect anything. I talk to their classroom teachers on a regular basis and ask the questions about behavior, attendance, and attitude - not just grades. If I had any suspicion that my child was drinking or taking drugs, I would come right out and ask the teachers if my kid ever seems high or drugged in class. Since there are certain signs of steroid or supplement abuse, I certainly watch for them and talk to coaches. If I ever have a suspicion of any drug usage by my kids, I will have them drug tested myself. With all that I do to keep them from it, my kids might still get into trouble of some kind. Drugs are a terrible problem, but it is my opinion that drinking is worse and much more prevalent. Teens drink and drive and think they are immortal. Then we bury a few of them and hope that our teens learn the very obvious lesson that they are made up of fragile flesh and blood. We, as a community, must do what we can to help the kids be as safe as possible by informing the parents of a problem. We will help many, but some kids will do these unsafe things anyway. We simply cannot stop it all. Parents have got to learn to see what they need to see in order to try to protect their kids from dangers. If they need to work a little less and spend time with the kids, then maybe that is one answer. Maybe getting off the couch, turning off the tv, paying more attention might help, too. Maybe there are some parents that are doing everything they can and still their kids will get into trouble. There is no absolutely right answer, no instructions, that will make everything ok. I just don't think random drug testing of students, teachers, admin, and coaches is the way to handle this. If a coach or teacher suspects a drug usage, they should call the parents in for a sit down. Then if parents want to, they can have their child tested. It has to be parents, not govt that takes responsibility. If we are going to have a substantive discussion, please, let's not get hung up on silly semantics. When I say "guard" I mean keeping a watchful eye out. OK? Keeping a watchful "eye out" doesn't mean that I actually take my eye out of my head to watch them either...so let's put the word games aside. I certainly don't want anyone using corporal punishment on my kids either. I don't hit my kids and I certainly don't want anyone else doing that. My kids pray outside of school with the family. They can also pray, if they want to, during the silent time given for this purpose at school. No need to make that mandatory. When I was in school, I used to pray a lot before tests! God usually sent me the message that I should have studied more.
  17. Scare tactics don't work on me. I am always on guard about my kids and anything they may be doing to endanger themselves or others. If they start random drug testing everyone (by your standards - admin, students, teachers, coaches) will they eventually come to my house with a plastic cup without cause? My govt is already listening to my phone calls to keep me from getting blown up by a terrorist...what's next? The plastic cup? "Give me liberty or give me death" - Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775 I am awake...are you?
  18. What about the effect of a false positive result on a kid? It seems to me that a false positive result would be devastating to a child not to mention a child's reputation as a sportsman. The doubt would always be there if there, even if the false positive were proven to be false. BTW, I'm not ready to give up any more rights for my child or myself for the greater good.
  19. Hi PM - Coach Brown is going to have a young team next year and the year after. He can make Page's baseball program a first class program from practically the ground up with so many young players. I know many of these young men and they and their families are of the highest quality. I'm not talking about only baseball, but in general. Their families are incredibly supportive and the young men are hard-working and eager to learn. I'm sure that Coach Brown will fit in well with a team made up of people of such high integrity. PageMan, have you heard about the assistants - are they staying or going? Welcome to Page, Coach Brown!!
  20. Really hard loss today for the Pats. But the tournament is where the boys can really shine if they haven't lost heart. Good luck to Page in the tourney and congratulations to the seniors on Senior Night. Seniors, I know your parents and fellow students are very proud of you no matter whether you win or lose. Thank you for doing Page proud! Now, dig deep and go win the tournament!
