  1. I heard that not only is there a new field going down but as a gift to the taxpayers there will be all new permanent spit cups installed in field house balcony. Consider it a Christmas gift to the community. You better hurry though if you want one because there is a limited number and I understand they will be available on a first come, first spit basis...probably will sell personal seats licenses for them in order to recoop the cost of the turf. This could really be a cash cow for the school and something I see people getting and passing down to there kids in there wills. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  2. I find it hard to believe he would leave DB after 18 years to call TCC games. Hmmm. Is hsi job/role involving announcing? He personally told me he had some college announcing prospects at the Crockett game which would have been just a few days before he was gone. Whatever, he is sorely missed as I feel he was a part of the Tribe tradition as much as the players and coaches. I hate it
  3. DB had a 47-19 lead at the half and and looked well on there way to 100 but went to sleep in the 3rd/4th qtr. South clawed back in the 2nd half and got to within 14...it should never have gotten that close. I am totally impressed with the Rebel PG Bailey Dick. Not only his play but his demeanor on the court. Anytime there was a collision or a hard foul with a DB player he was always offering a hand or asking if the DB player was ok. He should be a good one for the next few years.
  4. WATCHDOG I have one simple question. Why are you (or claim to be) even a DB fan? I can't recall ANY positive comment made by you toward the school, teachers, coaches, players, facilities, fans, opponents, etc. yet you post claiming to be a DB "fan". So why do you "cheer" for a program that you obviously can't stand? I just never have figured that out. And if everything is broken, instead of being so negative why not propose some solutions (unless you are a Democrat and you don't care about solutions...just complaints). What would DBWATCHDOG do if he (or she) were able to "fix" the problem that is DB? And as far as the tobacco issue goes, I have seen ADULTS at the games (not in the field house) stand inside the fence beside the band stands and smoke....as well as immediately outside the ticket gates at halftime. So if it is "banned" and "illegal" on school property why are they not taking care of that as well? Or is that just another problem that gets smoothed over at the evil empire that is DB? FYI- you may want to come out of your shell and travel to some other schools games and check out there fans and facilities and you may see the grass is not always greener. I have and I appreciate what we DO have. Are there things I would like to see changed? Of course, but if you think it is only a DB problem then you are fooling yourself...it is a problem with our entire community, country, planet. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. Falcondad You're gonna have to be more specific when you say "THIS idiot"...there are more than a few on here that qualify for that title /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Hey but you have an idea...fan voting! Waco, maybe you should inculde a fan poll next year for MOY in '08
  6. Why watchdog I am disappointed. I thought you would be able to tell us when the field was going to be completed....seeing as you are the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-complaining DBWATCHDOG. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  7. And Justin is only a junior, not a senior
  8. Waco I have to disagree about the worst thing to ever happen in the history of DB sports. I can think of some others: trying to pass and scramble at the goal line instead of lining up and punching the ball in during the William Blount game last year and putting it all on a kicker! Or the Shipley basketball team that was #1 in state and putting in a 5'4" point guard who got his lunch ate by Mr Basketball Sylvester Ford (Skunk can probably correct me but I think DB had a double digit lead against Memphis Fairley when Shipley subbed and DB was losing before he subbed back...at least that's how I remember it). Or choosing to go ahead and play the MoWest (Little Man Stewart) playoff game on a soaked fied instead of postponing until the next day. Or totally mishandling the pitching staff in (insert year here) and seeing Science Hill lose the conference title only to come back and make 2 straight trips to Murfreesboro (what WAS Tyler Joyce not use the last week or so of the '07 season?). So on, so on, so on....but yeah this is pretty low. My memory is probably a little fuzzy and I could be wrong on some or most of those situations but you get the point. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Seriously, we go from THE best announcer bar none of any high school team I have ever heard to ....well...not the best announcer anyone has ever heard. I talked with Tom before the Crockett game and he said there was some interest from a college but he assured me 99.9% that he would be there. this had to do with the format change and him having to spin county records in the morning...it's all Bill Meade's fault! He created this silly sports monster thing for an ego boost and they put Tom on playing country music which wasn't his thing...he was more of the community spokesman not Wolf man jack! I can't blame him for moving on. I can't figure out how he hung in this long with all the disappointment he has had to endure from football, baseball, and basketball. You would have thought the odds were pretty good that one of those could have given DB a champion somewhere
  9. Skunk You have any information on Tom Taylor? Paul Overbay was doing the game on WGOC tonight. I had heard talk of him moving on but he told me at the Crockett game he was 99.9% sure he was coming back. He was THE voice of DB in my opinioin.
  10. Skunk I hate to hear about Josef. We DB fans were really treated in basketball and football to watch him for a couple of years. He always brought alot of energy to the game and it spilled over into the stands....many heart pumping moments (I still think he was in bounds on the catch in the William Blount game). I was really looking forward to keeping up with his college career and was going to try and make some games until I heard he was out. Hope all goes well for him from here on out. By the way...were is that house located? I'm about at my tipping point in Col.Hgts with all the choking smoke from burning leaves. My family can't even go outside for any period before it becomes unbearable. I guess they are trying to smoke me out /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  11. I hope you're right on that prediction /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  12. Stokomo I'm not sure the Pistons "style" is something I would want my team to be compared to. You know they were nicknamed "The Bad Boys" for a reason. Bill Lambier is considered one of the dirtiest players ever in the NBA and we all know the troubled road of Thomas and Rodman as well. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  13. So it's only a 1 game deal? Anybody know anything about Pikeville High? thanks for the info
  14. Cap I think the truth lies somewhere in between. Yes DB has destroyed the "compeition" of late (Volunteer, Crockett, Cherokee, Central) but the real competition they saw, Farragut, thumped them pretty good. I thought that was a "good" loss until I saw where Maryville beat them AND Bearden. Against Crockett, DB was VERY sloppy in the 2nd half and still outscored them 30-16 in the half. I think we'll see what the conference is made of this week coming up when DB goes on the road against THS and East. FYI: I saw Tony Vaughn at the DB/Crockett game on Friday scouting for last night I'm assuming. Not sure if he was just there to see the 90 year celebration but I'm thinking he could have gotten the scouting reports off Tricitiessports.com and still got 4 points out of his team. That would have saved on a trip with gas prices being what they are these days. That's some of that outstanding Big9 "coaching" Waco always talks about. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  15. So it only takes 2 weeks to get Morganized? Or is he just a fast learner? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Sounds like our recruiting is stepping back up /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />
  16. Where can I get some info on the games to be played?
  17. THe last I saw he was head girls coach (Brentwood maybe?) and took them to state. His 92 or 93 team at DB with JaMichael Mills and co. was awesome, loising 1 game #1 in state and went down to Murfreesboro and got beat the first game vs. Memphis Fairley(?). I am still bitter about that because we had just paid for a room and didn't even make it through the first day. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
  18. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  19. I'm hoping you are wrong on the Army/Navy game. Go Army! Beat Navy! The greatest rivalry bar none. What 2 teams would stand after a game, win or lose, and stand side by side with the other team and sing that teams school song. We could learn something (myself included) from these games about something more than football.
  20. Great post! Sometimes we have to be reminded it IS about more than the game. Thanks
  21. agree...it's about South/Maryville /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. Yeah, I've heard that before. I wouldn't compare ripping through the 2A MLC in '04 as being able to beat DB /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> In '05 DB was a step down from '04 as I'm assuming was the case with THS yet we remember what happened in the '05 game...should I think that the '04 game would have been different? After all the hype I heard building up to the '06 DB/South game I have come to understand never to believe all the talk. I have also come to see how that when a team doesn't schedule DB...that was the year they would have won (THS in '04, South in '07). The way to beat DB...don't play 'em and claim you could have /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> DB's season ended in '04 the same as THS with an L (only DB didn't lose by 49). THS beat an 8-4 Betsy team in round 3 while DB was beaten in the same round by an 11-1 Oak Ridge (who DB had beaten earlier). But you just keep beating Volunteer in the 1st round and brag about it mmmk? Myth: DB 1 and done, THS playoff beasts Fact: Since 1997 (10 years) DB is 17-11 with 6 qtr finals in 5A, 3 semis. THS is 10-9 with 2 qtrs and 1 semi That aint Maryville #s but its better than anything in NET /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  24. I am proud of this team and program, that is why I spend my time on here with my assessments. But as long as there is the mentality of "look at a much more talented team like Riverdale who didn't go far" as our reasoning for not getting it done then it will always be just that. We should be looking at teams such as Bearden and saying that team was even with DB early and have put it together to ride (in dominating fashion) into the semis and are favored over Smyrna and that is what DB should be doing. Like I said, I find it interesting that sandwiched between 7 conference titles were Sevier County (99 5A champs) and Bearden (07 semis at worst). Those are programs DB has basically dominated over the years. Riverdale may not have "went very far" this year but they have 4 playoff state titles that speak for themselves. I am trying to honestly assess the situation.
