  1. It's teams like Glencliff that scare me. They play off emotion, and if they convert a big play, the colts could put some points up. However, with Sanchez averaging 168 yards a game, and Cody adding another hundred or so every week, I don't see Glencliff's defense stopping this rushing attack. This offense, if coached right, really could do whatever they want. I didn't know what to expect coming in this year, but the weapons we have are limitless. Let's just hope there isn't an injustice to them as seen by the coaching staff with harper, ferrell, wilmore, ferrell, et al. I still would like to see a more balanced offensive playbook. After all, receivers are called receievers because they receive passes. It's going to hurt us down the road if we don't start treating them as something besides blockers. Go Green Wave.
  2. I know this a is a thread about Riverdale, but I would like to start out by saying that I, for one, am happy to see a change of power in Rutherford County. I went to MTSU, and I'm from Gallatin. Hearing about Riverdale all the time in the boro reminds me of how we talk about the Gallatin teams of the 80's and early 90's under Calvin Short(which we wish we had back BTW). So needless to say, it's kinda nice hearing about a different Murfreesboro team's success. And to Lincoln County, congratulations. Sounds like you guys shut down the wing-t(an offense I hate), and capitalized on turnovers. On behalf of the state of Tennessee outside warrior drive, Thank you.
  3. Gwave, you think the continued success by those "terror twins" can be attributed to their fierce Gallatin-gold kleats? Gosh, what can you say about tonight besides wow. Mt. Juliet was a good team. Very few mistakes by the Bears were made. Gallatin just made fewer. Once again, we put alot of points on the partially-pole blocked scoreboard. I have to say that these guys are surprising me. I'm not used to many Gallatin teams averaging just under 38 points a game. Keep it up guys. MJ, keep your chin up. You guys are going to be alright this season, and we're going to see all but 7 of you next year. I know you're going to be chomping at the bit.
  4. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there are more sub-surface ties in this ballgame than most. Reed Gurchiek(MJ QB) has grown up with a couple of the kids from Gallatin. I know there are several folks in the Castalian Springs area that, like me, have waited some time now for a game like this. I do, however, hope there isn't any added pressure to the kids. I've had the priviledge to know Reed for a while now, and there are few who are more competitive. He's extremely smart, and if he has time in the pocket, there's a good chance he will make good decisions. Should be a tough guy to defend. Moreover, I really hope this little side story will add to the rivalry.
  5. According to Mt. Juliet's school homepage, they only have 7 seniors total. Anyone think this could be a big factor?
  6. You know, a bridge over the cumberland river from Mt. Juliet to Hendersonville would be darn helpful in the commutes that are going to be made next year in the new district. But who am I kidding.... I'm a bit concerned for the Green Wave this week. As Wave88 pointed out earlier, very little play variety was instilled last week vs. Hillwood. I realize that it wasn't needed, but how will Lassiter and his team react to a much more disciplined defense after having not thrown a pass in 2 weeks? Throwing the ball is usually out of the realm of possibilities for Gallatin, but they displayed a fairly dangerous attack in the Lebanon game. And thinking about that brings to mind the post by GWave1. Why not put Cloud in the backfield WITH Holder, and throw short and high percentage screens out of one of the many shotgun formations that Gallatin uses... Just a thought. But I agree that his acceleration, speed, and agility could be utilized in ways that could break huge gains. Expect Mt. Juliet to be in much better physical condition. Like Gallatin, the Bears are very seldom strapped for talent, so those speed sweeps to the outside could prove to be a thorn in the side of Green Wave lb's and db's. Should be a really good game, but I'm a biased Gallatin fan that is going to give them the edge in this one 31-24. Also, I would like to add that I'm flippin' stoked about tailgating this week. And I'm pretty sure that some steamed oysters are in order for Gwave and Gtowner. Mmmm...
  7. Good to be back yall. While I don't think Gallatin will put up 62 points (mainly because I don't see Lassiter keeping in his first and second team that long), I do think this will be a very one sided game. I have a feeling that this game, like most other matchups against metro schools, will come down to conditioning. Thankfully, Gallatin has some of the best in the state. It was a thing of hardnose and throwback beauty to see the Green Wave marching down the field, at will, late in the game. Lebanon was a tremendously atheletic, tough, talented, and solid fundamental team. So how did Gallatin pull it out? The answer could be seen by viewing virtually every defensive Blue Devil breathing heavy-with their hands on their hips. Surely if Gallatin can wear down a well conditioned team like Lebanon, they shouldn't have any problems with a perpetual cupcake like Hillwood. It is important, however, that the guys don't let that win get to their head. But I'm sure the coaching staff will make that stick on their minds like industrial strength glue. Lastly, I'll say this: If we want to get farther in the playoffs than we have in the last decade or two, this is the year to do it. No more metro schools in the region after this season. Although it seems like teams like McGavock and Hunters Lane could throw a curveball later in the year. Still, this week is Hillwood, and I know the toppers would love nothing more than to knock off a top tier team like Gallatin. So lets translate the second half of last week into an entire game this week. Gallatin wins 41-14.
  8. I didn't realize Wilson Central was 3-0... Hmm.... I assumed they were down this year, thus in my mind taking away from how good Mt. Juliet was this year. But I guess I can strike that one. Granted, WC's other 2 wins were against siegel and Franklin Co.... But still. By the way, it's been a really long time since I've been to MJ's stadium. What's the quality of the visitor's side?
  9. This could be a really interesting game. I have a feeling that it won't be one for those who like big scores. This is one of those matchups that is going to be tough no matter the year. Lebanon's defense is extremely fast and strong. I haven't seen Cookeville, but based on how their defense is every year, I assume there won't be alot of points scored. Having seen Lebanon this year, I'm going to have to go with the Blue Devils in a close one by 4.
  10. I couldn't agree more. Another point that is interesting to me... Why are there no more Donny Mabes, or Chuck Gibsons? I was only a young pup back in the monster teams of the 80's, but back then it seemed like the team's weight lifting was far superior to now. I know they focus on different strength conditioning now, but seems to me like back then a team would have 10 or 12 guys bench pressing at least 300 pounds and even some around the 400 pound mark. Now, it's amazing for people to see someone bench even close to 300 pounds at a lift-a-thon. I know formations have changed, and there is an emphasis on speed now... But what of the expression, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?" Well, that answer has long since past, and frankly... Things are broken now. Let's just hope these guys can fix it. I feel confident that they can.
  11. Well... In a question of "what we think about Gallatin's defense"... We have to have something to compare it to. Otherwise, it isn't even worth answering. We can't say that this defense is good or bad unless we compare them to a past team. The coaching has stayed the same... The defensive scheme has stayed the same... So there has to be a hole somewhere... Because we definitely weren't giving up an average of 20 and a half points a game last year. You have to compare it to something.
  12. I don't think you guys are giving enough credit to the team that beat Smyrna... Lebanon is really going to turn some heads this year, and with that game in the books, it wouldn't suprise me if they went 10-0 in the regular season. Now having said that, I will say this. I had the priviledge of watching Smyrna play siegel and let me tell you... That offense is impressive. As to the "demoralized" topic. I wouldn't be so sure. Remember who Smyrna played in the championship last year? Ravenwood. Remember how they started their season off? 0-4 I believe. Could be wrong about that, but at first glance, they were abismal last year. BA, you guys need to look out... Smyrna's going to be bloodthirsty, and just from another 5A fan's perspective... We, at Gallatin, are not looking forward to seeing these guys come into town in week 5. I say Smyrna wins this one by 2-3 scores.
  13. Talked to a couple guys on the team yesterday. They are feeling alot better about their potential after this week. Especially with the Lebanon win over Smyrna. Also, in the words of the Eagles Don Henley, "There's a new kid in town." Apparently he's from Arizona... And if you were at the Hillwood game you probably saw him on the sidelines with a jersey and no pads. Last name is Cruz. He's about 6'3"-6'4", probably around 200 lbs. Number 15. A couple of the offensive linemen told me he will be playing most likely in the wide reciever/tight end spot. Supposedly the kid has incredible hands, and he's been workin' out with Boo a little bit. I really hope so... Having a target like that to throw to is exciting. Not that we will. But it's just fun to think about.
  14. I hate to tell you guys this, but the majority of where we are hurting hasn't even been mentioned yet. I think Gwave may have eluded to it in another post.... But nonetheless... The type of 4-3 defense we run puts most of the emphasis on the linebackers to make plays. We have nowhere near the size, speed, power, or experience at the linebacker position this year. Ben Miller had over 300 tackles for Gallatin.... That's just nuts. Bell had several to tack on to that, and Harper at safety had over 100 tackles last year I think. I know these kids playing now want to win, don't get me wrong. But you cannot lose the amount of quality players we did and expect to be able to fill the gaps quickly.
  15. Gwave1, does this rivalry not also hold the record for fan attendence in a regular season game? Could be wrong about that one... But wouldn't it be great to have this one play out like the old games with 10,000 plus and standing room only... I know that before I stated that I thought MJ would take this one.... But I do think that if our defensive unit does a good job preparing this week, then Gallatin will be going home with the W. I really hope the aggressive nature of our front 4 and linebackers carries over from the 2nd half of the Hillwood game. All it takes is one guy to get in the backfield and disrupt the timing, and the wing-t looks more like a Chinese fire drill than a legitimate formation.
  16. Before I comment on this quote, I just want to say to Just1np... I am literally giving you a standing ovation right now. I don't think it could have been worded better than that. Now, as to the ayers kid for Ravenwood... Harper was not on this guy all night. Shehati (forgive spelling) was. Granted, the kid had a truckload full of interceptions... But after he got burned so badly the first two times even, one would think double coverage would be necessary. Also, the talent pool has absolutely nothing to do with Gallatin's success or lack thereof in my opinion. Very little anyway. Try to tell George Quarrels or Gary Rankin that. The point I'm trying to make is that with every coach, a pattern can be seen. For Quarrels and Ranking, that pattern is excellence in the face of adversity. For Lassiter, that pattern is mediocrity in the face of one of the worst regions in the state. I know some of you on here think that because I criticize Lassiter I'm criticizing the entire team. Not true. I want these kids to have a chance to experience some of that afore mentioned excellence. And they very much have the potential to do so. And perhaps at the end of the season I'll be eating my words. Thus far, we have lost only to Lebanon... Who in turn beat what was, in my opinion, the best team in the state. Who's to say we don't run the table from here on out? Who's to say that an anvil won't fall on lassiter's head and allow him to read a digital clock, or run a play that makes sense on 3rd and long? Sure I'm giving the guy a hard time, but he's not doing anything to shut up me or the rest of the unhappy Gallatin Faithful. I say we travel down the road to Hartsville, kidnap Satterfield from TC, chain him to the sidelines at the Wave Yard, and force him to call plays for us. Merely joking... But what is it going to take for Gallatin to adjust to things? Today's football isn't the football of old. And just because you are in a modern formation (shotgun) doesn't make you any less predictable. The only other team I can think of that even runs shotgun as much as Gallatin is Hawaii.... And they throw the ball at least 50 times a game. I don't think that is the answer either... But sooner or later, you have to do something different.
  17. Based on the continued lack of speed on the Gallatin defense, I would say in an early prediction that MJ takes this one. I hope not. I will, however, say that if we can get in the backfield like we did in the second half against hillwood, we'll have a good chance of disrupting the timing of that wing-t offense. Plus, Lassiter usually does a pretty good job preparing for games against Roger Perry. Could go either way. I still don't really know what to think about the Green Wave this year. But I see alot of potential. I say MJ by 6.
  18. You don't get it do you... You have yet to tell me where I am wrong... All you have done is taken personal stabs at me. Look, Lassiter is perfectly fine. If you are okay with merely having a winning season, and doing nothing in the playoffs. Gallatin is a premier program not only in this area, but reaching across the state. I have STILL not heard you defend anything about this guy. Really Redsman... I want you to explain how those kids were even given a chance by Lassiter against Ravenwood last year. Tell me. It happens EVERY year. WITHOUT exception. And only to further the point made by Gtowner yesterday... He is a great preparation coach. But that can only take you so far. There is a point where you have to take risks to win games. And Lassiter just doesn't do it. I challenge you to prove me wrong. Please. Show me where anything I've said is incorrect.
  19. You know, I remember before I went to college... All I could think about was getting out of Gallatin. How many of us have said that? Now I realize there's nothing like it. But there is something special about Friday nights in the fall. There is no comparison to the friendships shared at a high school football game. It's more than just a bunch of kids competing to win a game. That is the ultimate goal, but it reaches far beyond that. To see kids dressed up in jerseys and cheerleading uniforms; to smell the burgers and dogs cooking; to get chill bumps when the Star Spangled Banner is played. Gallatin football is and will be my one and only on Friday nights. And we sound like a bunch of angry kids on here. Why is it so wrong for me to disagree with a situation? As to the talk about losing 40 plus seniors... Who cares? I'm just as excited about seeing these guys play as them. They have just as much potential as any other team, if not more. If you want to crucify me over my statements about Lassiter then fine. Do it. All I have heard thus far is a bunch of people getting offended, and not necessarily coming to his defense. All I did was state true facts. If you don't like it, that's fine. But don't get mad at me about making evident something that has already happened. Gallatin, I understand this is beating a dead horse. But we are a community that loves football. And we are used to winning. I hate the fact that there is that added pressure on the kids, because it is such a winning program. But to the players, fans, and general football supporters that read this: Don't be angry with me. Please, I didn't mean to offend anyone. But I am still waiting for someone to disagree with my comments about lassiter, and not just react out of rage.
  20. Look, I never said anything about how hard Lassiter does or doesn't work. As GTowner stated, he is probably the best preparation coach in the state. I can't think of a team that is better conditioned in 5A ball. Having said that, I just don't think he is the right guy to be calling the plays. Period. He has demonstrated that over and over. Somebody disagree with me... Someone tell me that he knows how to manage the clock. If you do, then you are ill-informed. He is a great man, and he does alot for these kids. I'm not taking anything away from him. He just has no business running an offense. And no Redsman, I don't either. But I could go find a 9 year old that plays Madden all the time and has no actual football experience, tell them it's 3rd and 14, and guess what he's gonna say to do? Get the ball downfield. Don't be getting angry with me about this. Does no one remember how furious Wilmore was last year with Lassiter during that playoff game? Why do people forget about this. Every one of you who are saying give him a break right now were the very ones who wanted to put for sale signs in his front yard last year. If you weren't one of those people, then I commend you. But seriously people, could we can the hypocrisy? And I hope Lassiter makes a fool out of me. I hope he proves me wrong. He very well could. But I just don't have alot of faith in him especially after the Ravenwood game last year. But don't get it twisted. I respect him, and think he's a great guy.
  21. So what's worse Redman? Stating an obvious truth in the lack of skill at the head coaching position (an adult, that is capable of taking criticism). Or saying that the kids on the team are ungrateful, lazy and disrespectful? Furthermore, perhaps I will draw up some plays and "fly" them out on the field. Better yet, how bout I just go break into a huddle and draw some stuff in the dirt? Also... Lack of facilities? Give me a break. Before the first music city bowl, Alabama and Virginia Tech were practicing in our INDOOR FIELDHOUSE. Yeah, because every high school team around here has that. As well as the pile of money Gallatin has in the quarterback club. You speak of the poor discipline of the players? Isn't that a coach's ultimate job? Redman, you are one of those people that takes offense to everything, and it disgusts me. And since we're on the topic of suggesting things to improve fellow posters lives.... It would probably best if you just dropped this one, lest you look like a fool. Which you have clearly already accomplished. Instead of taking offense to this stuff, you would have been better suited to defend Lassiter and the obvious truths I stated about him. What? Nothing to say about that huh? So there is a reason we didn't attempt a pass until very late in the 4th quarter against Ravenwood down by 14 points? There is a reason that there is no such thing as a 2 minute offense at Gallatin. That, my friend, is not putting down and ENTIRE team. It is simply questioning the coach of it.
  22. Yuck. What a terrible season starter. Nonetheless, I feel like we will bounce back as well. And what better (or worse team I should say) to do it against... Agreed GWave, Boo is doing way too much. If you ask me, the fact that he was back returning kicks is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Well, not the dumbest. I think with some of the decisions made on the sidelines, you can't really compare how ridiculous things are. And if Lassiter doesn't start getting the plays into the huddle quicker, I'm going to start throwing objects at him. No joke. At one point on friday night, it looked like Boo was literally jumping up and down-yelling at him to give him a play. That is unexcusable. I actually talked to a couple of the boys on the team earlier this week... And I didn't know this, but apparently Lytle (forgive the spelling) was calling some of the plays in the preseason scrimmages. Note: I don't think we even came close to losing a scrimmage. Now granted those are scrimmages... But evidently, Lytle has no say so whatsoever on the calling of plays in a real game. I'm not suggesting anything in particular, but it is interesting... To further comment on Gtowner's post... Toss sweep out of shotgun on 3rd and really long... Why? And why run it again, and again, and again? I mean, I guess I should be thankful that Lassiter's crappy go-to play wasn't a hb delay up the gut on 3rd and long as it normally is. I realize that I'm the heckler from the stands that will never be happy with the coaching decisions at hand. But come on people. I don't think there is a person inside the Gallatin city limits that didn't want this guy gone after that mess against Ravenwood last year. Just because it's a new season with new kids playing doesn't make me any less angry. This is football. The object of the game is to WIN. PERIOD. By all rights, we should be in the likeness of a team similar to Smyrna. Gallatin is just one of those towns that will ALWAYS have incredible talent. When you have receivers like Marco Wright, Obrien, and number 17 (sorry, I don't remember the name)... There is NO reason why the ball shouldn't be in the air THROUGHOUT the game. Not just at the end. I know I sound like a broken record, but I just keep thinking of more things that were so incredibly discouraging. Posters, we were down going into the half, and with 2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, we lined up in the goal line smokestack I formation on our own 25. Don't get it twisted, I love the formation... But once again, WHY? The player development is nowhere near where it should be. I am so tired of this stuff. And I know there are some do-gooders on here that will scold me for my comments, but people... This kind of football isn't good for the fans, the players, or the community. People have been complaining about this guy for years. I'm positive I'm not alone with these thoughts. I love Gallatin football. I really do. It gives me something to look forward to at the end of the week. And I don't ever remember a time when I missed a game simply because I wanted to... But if things don't change in the next couple of weeks then there will be one less seat filled at the yard. I apologize to anyone I've offended.... And if there are players reading this, keep your head up. You guys have just as much chance as any other Gallatin team I've seen. I'm just sorry that your leader and mentor is a poor excuse for a coach. Good Luck Wave. Go beat them 'Toppers.
  23. I also think Riverdale should be a few spots lower. Heck, they might not even be the number 3 spot in their region. I could see Lebanon or Lavergne slipping up and beating them. Smyrna's a no brainer. And you're right. Seems like Farragut is the real deal this year. I'm not so sure about White Station though. Those Memphis teams like to beat up on each other down there... But, I can't disagree with it right now. Too early. All in all, good top 10 though.
  24. Yuck. What a terrible season starter. Nonetheless, I feel like we will bounce back as well. And what better (or worse team I should say) to do it against... 25. I'm going to go against the grain on this one. Here's why... siegel gave up 41 points to undoubtedly one of if not the best team in the state. Having said that, the majority of their defensive problems came on the short/medium pass game coverage. Now, Glencliff is probably going to throw the ball at least 30 times in this game, and although they are traditionally awful I think that they could get a couple scores on big plays and maybe not win this game, but make it close. They may not have a great team, but they do have some really good atheletes. Siegel will most likely win, but don't be surprised if this one is down to the wire and points @@@@ up in the 30's for both teams.
