Hayes has a very strong arm but not very good QB skills--yet. He focused on his first receiver from the snap of the ball on every pass but the ones he had to scramble to find. No doubt he is a very accomplished HS QB, but in that offense there are a lot of kids who could complete half their passes on underneath routes. The key is getting the ball in the end zone. How many of the long post and flag patterns did he complete? NONE. Lacey dropped one but otherwise he was long or up for grabs on the rest. ALL 25 COMPLETIONS WERE UNDERNEATH and obviously didn't dent the scoreboard.
When you run 78 plays to your opponents 34, and get beat by 5 TD's, somethings wrong. McKenzie moved the ball well between the 20's but couldn't do anything on the short field. IMO, it's time to rethink your philosophy and get Cook and Campbell more involved in the offense. That big old offensive line didn't appear to interested in run blocking after scrapping for 60+ pass plays (counting scrambles and sacks).
As for the Mustangs, I said earlier that the speed and depth factors would play a big roll. I think everyone knows who Phillip "Boo" (how appropriate for Halloween) Weathers is now. He was the difference maker. A TD receiving, rushing, and returning an INT, all over 70 yds. Speed kills. 5 TD's from 50+ yards. I hated we didnt control the ball longer, but if you're not tackled its best to go ahead and take the 6 right?
