  1. Nashdude- For what it's worth - I think that was actually Bond's 2nd loss this year. I think he lost to Max Gessler (sp?) from Tullahoma and then avenged the loss in a subsequent match. -Stalling is the most controversial call every year. In the few matches I've seen this year, one ref called the top guy for stalling because he was hanging on the hips, then in a different match, a ref called the bottom guy for stalling because he would not get up from his table while the top wrestler rode the hips. One big defense of the refs is that the first stalling call on a wrestler is just a warning. Once a wrestler knows what the ref is going to call, he shouldn't put himself in that situation again.
  2. Please excuse me for injecting this comment that is off the subject of this string. RMC - I complement you on your coacht posts. The only negative statement you ever make is the false humility you express concerning your own team (I mean only to complement your good sportsmanship). I read coacht because it's fun to know who the good wrestlers are and follow the drama on the mats (not in the post). Thank you for being one of the ones that keeps this site positive. (By the way, my brother is a wrestling coach at Lovejoy HS, Georgia. They don't have any feeder programs so it is tough for them to be very competitive) Back on subject...Good luck to both teams.
  3. quote sundancer,Dec 9 2004 - 09:35 AM KKW - According to alumni reports - Ray Dalton was the Rebel wRestling Coach while Jeff Jordan was in high school @ Franklin. Sundancer is correct. I graduated from Franklin one year after Jeff. Dalton was Franklin's head football coach at the time.
  4. Yes we are, Coach, and the Kenwood match up with Overton will be the featured event, I'm sure. Centennial, Brentwood Academy, Hume Fogg and the revitalized Independence team (we're up to 10 wrestlers now!) will try to bump you and Overton off those top positions. You and the other coaches should be contacted with the details within the next couple of day. We are very pleased to have a team of your caliber at our inaugural tournament. I hope we can make it a great experience for you guys. MG
  5. Coach, your 6 Frosh and 2 newbies beat up my two sons teams (Page and Independence) pretty good last night (and that was without Kevin, who, I'd guess, is your best wrestler). As I told you after the match, A.J. looked very good last night with two wins over solid performers. Good luck and I hope Kevin returns soon.
  6. My schedule has: Overton, of course Brentwood Academy Hume Fogg Independence (All five or six of our Freshmen) Clarksville Hendersonville David Lipscomb Franklin Road Academy Two pools of four. Wrestling starts at 4pm.
  7. Coach, I'm sorry about your loss. This is a great way to show respect for "Big Mike's" sacrifice. Do you plan to have a display at the tournament to tell the wrestlers and their supporters more about this soldier that is being honored?
  8. You always seem to be deep in thought. Tell me, what are you thinking right now? I was thinkin', I'm gonna take me some of these taters home with me. How about before that? Well, let me think... I was thinkin' I could use me another couple cans'o that potted meat if ya got any extree.
  9. I try to be the Rodney King of coacht'er; "Can't we all get along?" It appears that some BC supporters take Soms statements too personal. To me, it appears that he bends over backward to say what a great program you have at BC, wishes you good luck and thinks highly of your coaching staff. If he thinks Franklin is better, so what? It is just his opinion and will not have an effect on one single match. Soms is often jumped on for saying what he thinks others' opinions are, but as you can see in the quote above, other posters do this as well. My opinion is that this board is supposed to be informative and fun. Reading rude comments is just not my idea of fun. My last comment is that I think BC has a great team, excellent wrestlers and should never be counted out of any competition, except against Franklin...Just Kidding, lol.
  10. I know it's Walter Brennan, and I think it was from the tv series The Guns of Will Sonnett.
  11. Cool Hand Luke...oops. Too slow! Our Father in Heaven, before we go into battle, every soldier among us will approach you each in his own way. Our enemies too, according to their own understanding, will ask for protection and for victory. And so, we bow before your infinite wisdom. We offer our prayers as best we can. I pray you watch over the young Jack Geoghegan. That I lead into battle. You use me as your instrument in this awful (heck) of war to watch over them. Especially if they're men like this one beside me, deserving of a future in your blessing and goodwill. Amen. Oh yes, and one more thing, dear Lord, about our enemies, ignore their heathen prayers and help us blow those little b*$#@%s straight to (Heck). Amen
  12. "Friday" I know this is too easy, but it is too great of a quote to leave any of it out. Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. I know deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you don't want me on that wall; you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a (darn) what you think you are entitled to.
  13. Platoon? William Defoe to Charlie Sheen?
  14. Vision Quest Vincent: And you know what they call a... a... a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris? Jules: They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with cheese? Vincent: No man, they got the metric system. They wouldn't know what the %$@# a Quarter Pounder is. Jules: Then what do they call it? Vincent: They call it a "Royale" with cheese. Jules: A "Royale" with cheese. What do they call a Big Mac? Vincent: Well, a Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it "le Big-Mac". Jules: "Le Big-Mac". Ha ha ha ha. What do they call a Whopper? Vincent: I dunno, I didn't go into Burger King.
  15. "i'm quite a brilliant surgeon, i could do something with that hump" "what hump?" Sorry, Not Peter Boyle, it was Gene Wilder
  16. New "Biggest Rivalries" Brickhousechick vs. Soms Texas23 vs. Irishdad LOL ……………………………………………………………………… I'm going to defend our Beloved one a bit. I saw the famous "clock" match. Even if a clock mistake was made, (not looking for a rehash), I've made bigger mistakes while running the clock, believe me. The only difference is that the programs I'm associated with aren't followed as closely as Ryan and MBA because they are not as successful. Earlier in the year, I poked at ID about this same thing and got a similar reaction to the one above. 20+ years in the military have taught me that the worse thing to do when someone is chiding you is to protest too much. That just lets them know they've got under your skin so they'll keep it up! ID, keep running the clock for your beloved Irish and ignore guys like Tex and me. We're just glad it wasn't us at the table that night.

  18. Franklin wrestling fans, I am so sorry for and embarrassed by the fiasco last night. There is no excuse for Independence not notifying you in a timely manner that they would not participate in the duel match. I have identified the source for this failure and an official apology should be forthcoming. This incident is particularly embracing to me because my sons have wrestled with and are friends of almost every wrestler on the Franklin team. I, myself, am an alumnus of the Franklin wrestling team (1977). I wish your team the best of luck this year. Independence will have to work hard to overcome the black mark this mistake has put on our reputation. Please accept my apology, Michael Geasley (Blake’s father)
  19. Sundance, is it your understanding that the Franklin team did not know we, IHS, were going to be a no show last night? If so, please let me know. I can't rectify what has already happened but I can make sure this type situation doesn't happen again and that the proper apologies are extended. The bad news is that three of us dads of wrestlers at IHS have been working to get this program back on its feet after we lost Tim Deaton as our coach the week before the first practice. Even with our efforts, it is an anemic version of what it would have been had Tim been able to continue here. The last two weeks of practice have been sporadic and inconsistent. We are now down to about nine wrestlers (though we hope to build our numbers back up). Though I personally do not agree, but others associated with the team wanted to trim down the schedule (Though I disagreed with this decision, I fully support their efforts). IHS will also be a no show at our next scheduled match at Brentwood on November 30th. Our first match will now be at Page December 2nd. (Ravenwood will also be there). The good news is that we are finally stabilizing our practices, we just added an assistant coach with five years of high school coaching experience, and the father/coaches we have are very knowledgeable about wrestling. Although I have no official capacity with the team other than being a wrestler's father, please accept my apology for this situation. My hope is that at least the Franklin team knew IHS was going to be a no show. If not, we owe them an even bigger apology!
  20. Reb wrestler - There is not enough details here to be sure of what your situation really is, but if you were under 7% when you tested and missed 125# by .1#, then I don't believe you can go can't go 125# weight class even when it goes to 127#. My two sons were in this same type situation. For your sake, I hope I'm wrong. Good luck.
  21. Silverpie, I understand what you are saying here, but if you think being in the new-style Region 6 is a benefit overall, then you can have it. I'm sure you've seen Bovark's previous analysis on this thread: …………………………………….…………………………………………………………………………………………… ok using last year's team scores (at state) the (new) region scores look like this Region score 1 161.5 2 311.5 3 394.5 4 276 5 100 6 364.5 7 114 8 106 9 317.5 10 275 Minus the top scoring team from each region 1 161.5 (without subtracting top team scorer) 2 231.5 3 155 4 276 5 100 (without subtracting top team scorer) 6 240.5 7 114 (without subtracting top team scorer) 8 106 (without subtracting top team scorer) 9 240 10 202 ……………………………………...................................................................................................................... Especially the second part is telling. It shows just how unfair this new system is. If you are from new region 5, 7 or 8, then you can make it to State twice as easily as you can from 4, 6, 9 or 2. I can't believe that they made these regions without any type of analysis like this. Obviously this type of analysis was done in the past, otherwise the Chattanooga area regions (which have traditionally had the strongest programs) wouldn't have been so small (which I feel was and is correct).
  22. DI v DII: I like it split. DII schools can get kids from anywhere, while DI schools have to take them from their own area (basically). DI and DII schools do not compete evenly, so bragging about being a better team is meaningless. Old issue and old argument, but that is how we got here. In my opinion, DII champ, often 2nd and occasionally 3rd place finisher are as good or better than their DI counterparts. After that, however, I feel most of the time the competition really does not compare. This is a very vague statement and one that I can't defend except by pointing out DII placers that were beat by DI non-placers. I won't name names because it gets too personal.
  23. Larry Owens is the assistant wrestling coach at Independence High School. Bye the way, his son Jared is a very good wrestler and outstanding team leader. Look for good things from him.
