  1. It is my understanding that Tullahoma was plagued by an illness that was going around the area. That and the fact they had to travel to GPS made for tough going I'm sure.
  2. The Lady Rams are very worthy champions of the 2007 Best of Preps Tournament. They are very well coached and have excellent basketball skills. Congratulations and good luck with the rest of the season. It was a great tournament and thanks to Tennessee Temple and the Chattanooga Free Press for sponsoring it.
  3. In the battle of the "Blue Teams" GPS came out on top 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22). For my taste the match was a little sloppy. Lazy free balls that were sent out of bounds or into the net, service errors, etc. Not the caliber of play that either of these teams showed during the Tandem Tournament this past week-end. Red Bank's blocking was great and it frustrated the GPS hitters. Red Bank's No. 21 was particularly effective. For GPS; Laughlin looked strong and Gearrin was great in defense.
  4. The GPS family also prays for a quick recovery. Grace has a very talented team that will be a big factor in the A/AA playoff picture.
  5. Deborah Lowry was out when we played them last week. She had an ankle injury. I don't know her exact status but I think she might be out for a few weeks.
  6. Greatly appreciated. Yes the Dig To Win alumnae performed very well on Saturday. Lindsey Bibbee (Baylor) looks stronger than ever despite her knee injury which limited her play during the afternoon matches. It was a classic Baylor v GPS match; very close.
  7. Congratulations to Whitney! We will have to get together for a scouting session on Father Ryan as they figure to be the favorite in Division II.

This is by far the toughest bracket in the tournament.
  14. The Power Varsity division of this tournament features the following teams; Pool A GPS Red Bank Karns Boyd Buchanon Pool B Baylor Cleveland Houston Walker Valley Pool C East Ridge Harrison Westminster (Atlanta area) Soddy Daisy I will try to provide updates during the day.
  15. GPS picked up the enthusiasim to play Div. II East Region rival Webb tonight. They won in three (25-8, 25-16, 25-18) Junior Hannah Shadrick did the most damage with 11 kills. Other offensive stats; Heather Parman 6K, 3 Aces Jasmine Brown 6K Marrisa Thompson 4 K and a block Jennifer Laughlin 2K and 4 Aces Camille Campbell 3 Aces Danna Myatt 1 K, 1B Catherine Garvey 1A Mary Beth Booker 1A Cayce Gearrin 1 A GPS got into their "Ball Control Mode" early. Cayce and Camille distributed the ball well and GPS never looked back. The Spartans have lots of freshmen and sophomores (10 in all) that will only get better in the coming years. Sara Blair (senior), was the offensive power tonight. She had 6 kills and an ace. Emily Dupree (senior) had three blocks and an ace. Faith Dupree (sophomore) had a pair of kills and 2 blocks. Santana Ewers (freshman) had a pair of aces. Kendal Hill (sophmore) had an ace.
  16. I have no word on whether or not the game will be rescheduled.
  17. GPS wins in three (25-18, 25-14, 25-23) The defense was a little suspect at times but the Bruisers come away with the win. Marissa Thompson 8K, 1B Heather Parman 8K, 2A Jasmine Brown 6K, 1A Hannah Shadrick 5K, 1A, 1B Catherine Garvey 3A Camille Campbell 1K, 1A Cayce Gearrin 5A, 1K Cayce and Camille did a great job setting (as always) For Cleveland; Emily Feehrer was the setter and did a nice job she had an ace and a block that greatly pleased the crowd and the announcer. Cacy Burtnett did most of the damage for the Raiders. My numbers showed she had 7K, 1A. Rachael Isom had 6K; Morgan Isom had 3K and an ace; Kelly McIntosh had 3 K. Caitylyn Fuller had a kill and a block. The Bruisers move on to N.E. Tennessee this week-end for a tournament hosted by Sullivan South. Reports are that Jennifer Laughlin may be cleared to play this week-end (Dr. visit on Friday)
  18. GPS beats Div II East rival Baylor tonight 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-18). I did not have my paper and pencil so I do not have any stats. The Chattanoogan.com and the Free Press were there so the stats will be posted. It was spirit week at GPS and the team was inspired by the fan support. GPS had the more spectacular kills and made fewer mistakes than Baylor. GPS had good production from the entire team and everyone got to play. Brittany Scoggins, Megan Sledge, and Jessie Hildebrandt looked good for Baylor. The rematch in a few weeks (at Baylor) promises to be another fun night of volleyball (the winners will enjoy it more of course).
  19. Notre Dame beat GPS 2-0 to move to the next round. Notre Dame is on a roll!
  20. Yes; Notre Dame and Franklin were both undefeated until they met each other in the last pool play match. Notre Dame and GPS were in different gyms so I only got to see a few games.
  21. Franklin: Played very well. Hit hard and dug well. They were the best team at the tournament. The GPS match with them could have gone either way (the scores were very close). Laughlin was missing for GPS and that could have been a factor. Franklin's #14 was very impressive. The team is deep with no obvious weak rotations. I saw the first game they played against Notre Dame and they looked very strong against them as well. GPS; Second best this weekend. They played sloppy against Independence and they paid the price. This team is living off great defense so far this year. Independence: The team that played Harpeth Hall was not the same team that beat GPS. The back row looked very weak on Friday (vs. HH) but they certainly fixed that by Saturday morning. #1 and #8 are the real deal. I understand that #8 is a sophomore; if thats correct they have a bright future. If the team can play consistantly like they did on Saturday they will do very very well. Harpeth Hall: They have a few problems to work out before the State Tournament. Haven't seen Father Ryan but from the consensus opinion they are the team to beat in Middle Tennessee. We have seen BGA and they are better than HH at this point in the season. Hopefully HH will win the third spot in D-II Middle.
  22. Franklin is the ultimate champion of the Harpeth Hall Fall Classic; they defeated GPS 3-1 (25-19, 21-25,27-25,26-24). It was a great match; lots of good volleyball. Franklin was undefeated during the tournament. They beat Boyd B., Brentwood Academy, Goodpasture, and Notre Dame during pool play. GPS lost it's first match today losing to a very good Independence team 2-1 (25-22, 23-25, 15-12). GPS went on to defeat Harpeth Hall 2-0 (25-15, 25-11) and University School of Nashville 2-0 (25-16, 25-10) Harpeth Hall had defeated Independence 2-1 last night. Independence beat Notre Dame.
  23. GPS defeated Ravenwood 2-0 (25-22 and 25-17) GPS's hitters had a slow start in the first game. Only 9 kills and 8 attack errors (net one kill) and 22 attempts. The team also had 5 service errors. The back row play saved the game. Great passing has become a trademark of the 2006 Bruisers. Ravenwood had some strong hitters. The senior setters Cayce and Camille each had an ace and sophmore Danna Myatt had a block. Jasmine Brown was the key offensive hitter 4 kills (no errors) in 5 attempts. In the second game the hitting came around: 13 kills, only 4 attack errors and 23 attempts. Jasmine was strong in this game as well with 4 kills and an ace(plenty of key digs as well). Heather Parman was also a force with 4 kills and 2 aces. Hannah Shadrick had 3 kills in as many attempts. The Bruisers only had 1 service error in the second game. The back row play was the key to the match. Megan Givens (libero), Cathrine Garvey (DS), and the others who rotated through kept the ball off the floor. Ravenwood defeated University School of Nashville in an earlier match.
  24. I am working on a better method to track these things. GPS has had some problems with service errors this year. Maybe 6 per game is an unofficial estimate. Thankfully for us the last game against ND we only had one, and that could have been the difference between winning and losing that one. I tracked hitting percentage at the GPS v Ooltewah match earlier in the week. That result was about 0.15 (net kills/attempts). Not that great. Maybe due to nerves in the first match of the season. Last night's effort was better. The ratio "Unofficially" probably was around 0.25. ND dug the ball well.
  25. Match 3: GPS wins 3-0 vs Notre Dame (25-15, 25-16, 25-22) GPS's ball control was too much for the Irish tonight. Megan Givens, Catherine Garvey, and the entire back row dug many hard hit balls and made the passes to the senior setters (Cacye and Camille) to get the offense rolling. Junior Hannah Shadrick injured her fingers early in the second game. With Laughlin and Shadrick on the sidelines, Coach Brock had to push new players into service. They came up big. Mary Beth Booker served at least 8 straight points including an ace in the final game. Heather Parman 7 K, 3A Marissa Thompson 5 K , 1B Jasmine Brown 5 K, 1A Danna Myatt 3k, 1 B Whitney Hammond 1 K Hannah Shadrick 1 K, 1 B Notre Dame was solid and has lots of weapons. They should do great in A/AA. Morgan Strozak 6 K Keri Partridge 5 K Leigh Stavrum 4 K Erica Cowart 2 K, 1B, 1A Brittany Thomas 2 K Emily Gadd 3 A Amanda Marini 2 K, 2 A
