Bump. Nobody on here knows anything bout Davidson Academy? You would think that somebody would if we hear they are good.

What does Davidson Academy look like? Size, strength, speed. Do they pass or run or both. Strengths and weaknesses? They moved to Div 11 A and we in Memphis have never seen them play . We hear they are very good. True?

Lighthouse Christian Academy in Memphis dropped football this year in late July. They are no longer participating due to not having enough players.

Watching Arlington High and Tipton Rosemark play their first season game.

cutoff is actually 303. if you have 304 or above you move to AA. Yeah, Davidson will be the biggest school cause the ones here in Memphis don't even have 200 total in the highschools. Whole schools (K thru 12) usually run around 5 to 6 hundred. Davidson will probably have more depth than most of the teams here that have starters playing both ways and doin all the kickin, special teams, etc. But just have to see. Never seen em play.

Why didn't they play? ya know? They should be better than last yr I would think.

crusdr, Ya'll looked good. This could be u'r yr. As usual Byrne looked bad but theyalways look bad at jamboree. think it is part of their plan to look bad at jamboree. we played horrible. that was our 1st scrimmage and it showed. hopefully will get better.

don't know. could be a 2nd off night or maybe a scrimmage or something. our coach has not said. he did not tell us who we play yet either so still don't know. maybe he will tell us this week. kinda hard to find a team to play this late in the season. lighthouse should have pulled out a lot earlier and everybody would have had time to do something about it. their basketball coach left and made them all mad and now not having football - they are not having much luck there.

We are. Are ya'll? Of course St. Benedict is and I don't know who else? Last yr it was Fayette Academy and Bishop Byrne and St Georges too. I don't know about this yr. Who do ya'll play? do you know yet?

I don't know anything about Walker Valley. What happened there? And if Davidson had 324 or so last year how did they end up in Div 11 A if the cut off was 304? Ya just turn in what you want to? I am glad they are in Div 11 A and hope they stay there cause we need some competition and coming from Div 1 A is good. It helps to get a few more teams in so that you have a bigger variety. Some of the schools in Div 11 A are so small and football programs take time to build with real small schools so it just helps us out to get more teams to play. They can move up later maybe.

I just looked it up on tssaa and enrollment for Div 11 A is 304 or less. The school info on Davidson (which is from last yr and not for this yr) shows their enrollment as 340 something so they must have lost some students from last yr to this yr if they qualified for Div 11 A (or projected less anyway) - otherwise they would have been Div 11 AA to begin with. Where did ya hear that from?

No, I have'nt heard anything. I know they were close when the changes all first started but do'nt know what they got right now or anything. I know that if they stay in Div 11 A they will be the highest enrollment cause everybody else is real small schools. Like less than 200 in highschool and most of us come in around 150 or less.

My bad. Did not mean just smaller schools were academically sound- I mean't most all private Christian schools are. Yeah there are some good large private and public schools too - I was mainly talking about public schools in Memphis and Shelby County cause I would imagine there are good public schools elsewhere in the state also but Memphis/Shelby county is having big problems with public highschools - way way over crowded, no money to do anything, totaly out of control, no discipline, all the stuff that goes with not having control of the individual schools. Not the problem of ALL of the teachers, parents, students, school board, etc., but it is the problem for many that no control has caused over time and therefore academics are way off. Can't be sound academically unless there is an emphasis on academics and not on trying to fix overcrowding, dicipline, poor attitudes, big money problems, etc. Memphis and Shelby County just got big school problems right now. That is why there are lots of private schools around and why they are all doing so good with enrollment lately and most have grown in size. Anyway Silverball was puttin us down as no good teams at the small private Div 11 A level and that is not true. May not can compete with some schools but we can hold our own with a lot of other Div 1 schools.

Silverballs you show your ignorance when u post w/o knowing what u are talking bout. MS school won yr before last, not because there were not enough teams but because where they are located is right on the TN line and they play TN schools since it is closer to them than MS private schools and the MS private school division is not very good so they chose to play Tssaa schools. Most people living there work in TN also. The div is no lower than DIV 1 A . But yes it is the lowest div for private schools just like div 1 a is lowest division in public schools. The teams are SOMEBODY and not NOBODY. They play football the same way in every division if you did not know it. Schools are small and put emphasis on an education and Christian principles. We happen to like that! So go discuss something that u know something about.

Ensworth doesn't have all the highschool grades added yet I don't believe so maybe they will when they get all 4 grades. Davidson Academy was real close in enrollment numbers (to move to Div 11 AA) but chose to stay DIV 11A. If they have such a good team that faired well in Div 1 A surprises me they didn't move up to Div 11 AA since everybody always says Div 11 A can't play with the Div 1 A teams. (which of course is not true but all Div 1 A teams like to think so)

Read in the paper where Booker was all state preseason in Murphy Fair's Book. I have not seen the book yet. Since we got a new coach named just a few weeks ago I knew our team missed out on having any player nominations or even any write ups for the fall magazine I imagine. Don't know if our team is even in the book this year. Changing coaches hurts. Congratulations to Booker. He is a good athlete.

I fully believe Rosemark will be a big contender this year. SBEC will be better this year- they won state yr before last but had a team full of seniors so they had to regroup last year. I think this year will be better for them. I look for FACS to do better this year and St. Georges will be a force also I think. Byrne is always good and will have a good team again with speed and lots of athleticism. Davidson will be a good team even though they lost some good players. The competition will be good and any of those team could compete in Div 1 A and most of them do play some teams from DIV 1 A as well as some DIV 11 AA teams as well. It won't be long now till season starts. THen we will see after the first few games.

Does anyone know anything about Davidson Academy and what they have this year? They were in Div 1 A and moved to Div 11 A. They are from Nashville I believe. Not sure why they moved to Div 11 A from Div 1 A unless they decided to offer scholarships or maybe their enrollment was not increasing. They are on the high side for enrollment numbers so that just a few more would have put them in Div 11 AA but they made it under the line for Div 11 A for now. I hear they had a good team last year but don't know what they have for this year. Perhaps that was also a reason for change. Not sure.
