  1. The bottom line is that nobody in this region is as good as they think they are. Meigs is getting better offensively each week and their defense is much better after switching to a more attacking style after the Central game. Central has good athletes but need to quit talking about how good they are and just play. Polk is not as talented as they have been but you can never question how hard they play. They are the only team in this region who plays hard every play from beginning to end. I would think Howard has the most talent, but fundamentals will catch up with them before its over. They are eventually going to play a team that won't kick to their returners, probably this week. East Ridge probably has as much talent as the rest, but for some reason can't put it together. Grundy seems to be much improved but that still don't mean they are a playoff threat. Notre Dame needs to learn how to take a snap from under center and run a regular high school offense. Wait till next year, AGAIN, for Sequoyah and Tellico. Win a playoff game against Region 4 and THEN you can open your mouth.
  2. NO WAY Sequoyah beats East Ridge this week. Way too many athletes on the field for the Pioneers. MUCH better team than their record shows.
  3. He was the offensive coordinator at Meigs in the early to mid nineties......That guy had a play book that was unbelievable. Could score at anytime from anywhere on the field. Of course it helped that Meigs had very good talent, too. He called a tight end reverse against Ooltewah once from his own 1 yd line. Tight end took the handoff at least 5 yards deep in the end zone and gained fifty something yards. If anybody else would call that play, I have never seen em. Good luck, Webber, we miss ya here in Decatur.
  4. Is Roger Webb helping coach football at York? An old nosy Meigs Co. fan is wondering
  5. Notre Dame is going to win very few games until they learn how to run at least one play with the QB under center. Third and goal on the Meigs 1 ft. line and they run out of the shot gun. Fumbled and lost it and then Meigs drove 99 yds. for a TD. Turned the game around. Stay in the shot gun, coach, and lots of teams from the northern end of the region are going to beat the Irish.
  6. Same song.....................10th verse...........
  7. Talk about a wild ending to a game. Meigs scores with 1 minute 5 seconds left to take a 12-10 lead. Squib the kickoff and it hits a Boyd upback in the head and bounces right into the guy behind him arms. He goes 78 yards right up the middle of the field to give the Bucs an 18-12 lead after the 2 pt. conversion with 54 secs. left. Meigs returns the pooch kick, and I dont know why they pooched it because the kicker had been kicking them into the end zone all night, back to midfield. 3 straight pass completions and Meigs ties it up with 18 secs. left. Meigs tries to kick their third extra point and misses AGAIN and they head to overtime. Boyd scores and kicks the extra point for a 25-18 lead. Meigs scores and goes for two. QB hands off to Mobriant off right tackle, fumble the handoff and it bounces right back up into his arms and he plows into the end zone for the win. First 3 quarters were about as non eventful as I have ever saw but the last 2 minutes and overtime were just the opposite. Good luck Boyd on the rest of the season. Ya'll are a class act and have the best "traveling" student section thats been to Decatur in a long time. To the Boyd fans who vistited our pregame tailgate party - hope your were treated well and enjoyed the food and entertainment.
  8. Serving starts at 5:00. All you folks that are going to other games just drive on up here to Decatur and get you a plate to go. Still have plenty of time to make it to your game. And YEAH.......all legends get a discount.
  9. Same old Central.......all you hear in the preseason is how much they have IMPROVED and then they actually have to play a game. Until they get MUCH better up front it don't matter how much talent and speed is in the backfield.

    2008 AA

Reason number 124 that privates and publics ought to be split. "Goodpasture softball now has the pick of Davidson County."
  11. Not as many ?......all 3 go way overboard and it's mostly students from all 3. The adults could definately set a better example and punishing offenders would be a good place to start. As for Coach Baker being classless, in my opinion he is one of the best people I have ever met. Don't judge a guy by what you "think" he should or should not do.
  12. A couple of players from Meigs who have not been mentioned but are very valuable to the team are 2nd baseman Casey Metts and outfielder/shortstop Brandon Watkins along with 3rd baseman/pitcher Corey Clark. Metts is the best 2nd baseman in the district and a very scrappy player. Watkins has been solid both at short and outfield and has been an above average leadoff hitter. Clark, who is recovering from a broke nose, has had several clutch hits and plays a solid 3rd base.
  13. Clint Baker Meigs County
  14. Surely that score on the scoreboard is incorrect. It says Sweetwater beat Polk 8-1. There is no way that could have happened according to everything I have been reading on here.
  15. Pool A- Friday @ 5:00 Polk Co. vs Kingston and Sequoyah vs Sale Creek. Winners play at 6:30 and losers play at 6:30. Pool B- Friday @5:00 McMinn Central vs Midway and Notre Dame vs Tellico. Winners play at 8:00 and losers play at 8:00. Pool C- Friday @ 6:30 Meigs Co. vs Johnson Co. and Seymour vs Bledsoe Co. Winners play at 8:00 and losers play at 8:00. Double elimination starts Saturday at 9:00 AM
  16. Sweetwater should be very, very good for the next couple of years. Has anyone heard how Boyd is doing so far this spring?
  17. Anybody got a list of the 5AA all district team? I heard that #6 Brainerd placed 3 players on it and #1 and #2 McMinn Central and Polk Co. had ONLY 3 between them. Would love to see the list.
  18. The problem, in my opinion, is kids nowadays don't want to put their time in and work. If they don't "start" then they will transfer. Folks need to learn the old saying that the coach don't decide playing time....players do. Out of the girls that transferred from our school, two play for a small single A school that won a total of 3 games last yr. and one rides the pine for a very good AA school. All 3 would be playing significant minutes if they would have stayed put and waited their time.
  19. Best teams I ever saw were the 1971 Bristol team. They came down to Red Bank in the semi finals and demolished a very good Red Bank team. Also, the 1973 Baylor team (mythical national champs)
  20. Better watch what you say.....I would hate to have to look up the records for the last 20 yrs. and prove you wrong......Tucker IS a fantastic coach......but until you hang the banner a fantastic coach just has a good record and nothing to show for it.
  21. Speaks for itself? How many gold balls do they have between them?
  22. Who are the top players from your school? Here are mine, in my opinion, from Meigs County (in no particular order) Cotton Letner - played in the fifties at UT and the NFL Jack Rayl - early 70's - beast of a lineman - Memphis St. Don Roberts - Mid 70's - high school all american Gary Moore - class of 76 - rushed for 2100 yds senior yr...UT alumni Mike Wilson - class of 82 - all stater in 3 sports Robby Scott - class of 83 - 3 yr. starter at UT Jeff Smith - late 80's - 4 yr. starter at UT and 7 yrs. in NFL Gary Meadows - class of 93 - 2nd all time in the state all purpose yds. Tyrone Jenkins - class of 96 - led team to state runnerup finish Jon Thompson - all time leader in all passing categories Just a few (in my opinion)
  23. Why would Calhoun kids drive all the way across the county to attend Central when McMinn is right there in their back door? Something is out of whack. The same can be said for Riceville. How many Riceville alumni are now playing at Central? Bottom line is - AAU basketball is killing local school pride everywhere.
