  1. Oh, it's done alright, addictedtosports. Students living outside the city limits of Oak Ridge pay tuition to attend Oak Ridge City Schools. Maybe it is because of the superior level of education in OR and Maryville. Parents are willing to pay for their kids to receive it.
  2. Brittany, I hate to go back on my word about any more posts on this subject, but it appears you jumped into it without fully knowing what was being discussed. Rebelron posted the cheer in his post dated Nov. 30, 2003 @ 4:08 pm (2 days after the ballgame). That was when I posted saying that the time for that was over.
  3. This is my last post on this subject. I never said anyone was trying to rub in the win. I also admitted that those cheers can be "cute" and "fun". The point I TRIED to get across is that AFTER the fact it's time to move on.
  4. Absolutely no need for sorrow up here in the Ridge. Total waste of your time. Heads should be held high around here. Your quote was profound...may it not come back to haunt you. If you could see the forest for the trees you would realize that we are pulling for Riverdale and wishing only the best for you. Too bad you can't return the same courtesy.
  5. Oh, and by the way, Brittany, don't tell me I'm not feeling their pain. No, I don't feel their exact pain, but my heart hurts for them just the same. I was on that field with them after all was said and done. But for a few seconds your seniors would be feeling the same and I'll tell you something-I would hurt for them too. When you watch young men pour themselves into this program all year long and you really know what they go through then you know that someone always has to lose, but you feel for the loser all the same. A good winner must also know how to be a good loser. The pregame build up is lots of fun and enjoyed by both sides of any team, but for adults to get on a public forum and do this after the fact is tasteless to me. And to all: yes, the cheer is silly and all in fun. I have no problem with all of that! My point (didn't anyone get it?) is that after a game has been won those cheers are no longer cute or funny? Maybe I'm wrong but I think after a game like that the only posts on here should be praise for 2 fine teams. Sorry if that flies straight over your heads.
  6. Brittany, if you had read the whole thing you would have read that I said "before" the game was a different thing. This game is over.....time to move on! My point was that after the game has been won there is no need for any of this. You can argue with this? So, this was the kind of cheer it took to get your crowd into the game? Nothing wrong with that, but all it takes for us Ridgers to get into the game is to see those Wildcats walk down those steps! Good luck next week!
  7. Rebel Ron, you say you were for Oak Ridge, but you also said you are for Riverdale. Before you say you are for Riverdale now that they have defeated OR, I ask you why you were sitting on the Riverdale side? And, yes, David, my feelings may be a bit on my shirt sleeve, but what I'm feeling is the hurt all 30 of those seniors are feeling. That was their last shot at a state title. All of that stuff may have been fun banter BEFORE the game on both sides, but I really think it needs to be put to rest now. I, on the other hand , could go back and forth with opposing fans all day long about this and that. But, do you really think the players want to hear all that? I would feel the same if Riverdale had lost. You all may not agree with me, but I feel that the game is over, the players up here need to put it to rest, and those kind of remarks/cheers are really a moot point now that it is over. Before the game we could have matched you chant for chant, but what good comes of it now? We want the Riverdale Warriors to go out and win the state now. Maybe if it were your boys you would feel the same!
  8. Rebel Ron, Your delight in such a tasteless (not to mention lack of class!) cheer is disgusting. If you are a Maryville fan then one is to assume you live in East TN. You know, we try to stick together here in the east and pull for our own teams when one of us makes it that far. That's one of middle TN's strong points! If you saw the game, then you saw two really good teams! Riverdale came within 25 seconds and 5 yards of going home a loser. It just didn't happen for OR. Another night it might have been different. Only one team advances to the State Championship, but that doesn't mean the Oak Ridge boys handed it over to Riverdale. They fought hard and matched Riverdale pretty evenly. What they don't need now is the words to such a stupid cheer being printed here.
  9. Dart, I'm a transplant to OR from another east TN city who has a strong football tradition (and excellent football team). I've always been a "fan" here because I believe in supporting the hometeam. However, since my son has played for Oak Ridge I have become a "diehard". The difference for me is that now my heart has become involved (as a result of my son) and that is something that will never go away!! When he leaves for college, marries, or even possibly moves away from Oak Ridge I will still be in the stands cheering for the Wildcats because I have now seen first hand how much heart and soul is poured into this program. I'm sure that's true elsewhere, but these are OUR boys and OUR team! And, I will now always know that there are other Dad's and Mom's in the stands with their hearts beating just a little faster than normal!! GO CATS!
  10. Hey, Billy Bobcat, leave it alone! THE WILDCATS HAD A SENSATIONAL YEAR!! I suppose you could have led them straight down the yellow brick road to Murfreesboro? No amount of Billy Bobcat Quarterbacking is going to change that 17-13 final score! Two great teams met and one had to walk away a loser. Same thing happened to Maryville today. Our boys can walk away with their heads in the air because they gave it their all....heart and soul! So, why don't you start thinking about next weeks games and quit trying to rewrite last nights? GO CATS!
  11. Davidlimbaugh, to be honest I don't remember what play....not even sure that it was one of the big ones of the game. It wasn't the one over on the visitor side that you are talking about. It was fairly late in the game, I only noticed cause the Riverdale player came crashing into the sidelines pretty hard. That was what caught my attention, when some of our guys tried to move/help him up he came straight up in the faces and actually continued doing that while he was being pulled back to the field. I know it's easy to sit back and be critical and these guys are teenagers, after all. And, You are so right about the choak ridge comment!! I'm proud of our night and our boys! If that person would look back they would see that we kept Riverdale to their lowest score of the season. Not enough for the win, but still a matter of pride! Now you all have to win it all to justify our loss!! HA And, you are so right about Scott (#8)! That boy played his heart out and led his team with CLASS!! Not enough words can be said about how hard he fought! Thanks again for all the kind words! Go Warriors! GO CATS!
  12. Davidlimbaugh, Thanks for your many kind words! It was a heartbreaking night for our kids, but the end of a wonderful season. The Wildcats (Warriors too) did play their hearts out and just kept coming back even with the pain and injuries they were sustaining! And you're right, with a difference here or there the Wildcats would be visiting Murf/boro next week. We want them to hold their heads high and know what great football their fans think they have played all year! We are happy to have the Riverdale Warriors and their fans visit the Atomic City and hope you are always made to feel welcome here. A little cold last night, not much we could do about that. Sorry about the hot chocolate though! One more point...I agree with Falconstatman on one of his observations. I was sitting straight up above the sidelines where #34 was pushed out of bounds. His attitude wasn't fun to watch. The Warriors prove their superb ability ON the field, his behavior only reflects poorly on his team. Just an opinion on that. It was the only thing that really bothered me all night/other than losing, of course! You can't worry about the calls you think didn't get called. There's been a time or two this year when OR probably should have had calls on them and didn't. Those things are always going to happen! I'm proud of our year! And, the Warriors have had a great year too. What a game. Don't think my heart could take many of those! Best of luck next week! Bring home another championship to your school's impressive history! GO CATS!
