    Rockwood

HallsOF12, Rockwood may not always match up well with the higher classed schools, but Coach Lane likes the good competition. He likes to play those games during the season so come tournament time his teams have the experience of playing in the big games. We don't always have the best record in the world, but he gets his team ready for the tournaments. He has been pretty successful with his methods. Do you know Matt, Toby and Joe from last years Hall's team? ET has played with several of them through the years. Do you all have a good team this year? RHSfan

The Rockwood Baseball Tigers will be shutting down Wed. Mar. 17 to root for the Basketball Tigers, who will be playing in the State Tournament in Murfreesboro. To the basketball guys, you've done a great job to get where you are, we are proud of you. Good Luck! RHSfan

    Rockwood

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Rockwood High School Basketball Tigers for advancing to the state basketball tournament. On the one hand, I hope they do well in Murfreesboro, but on the other hand, I'll be glad to get the rest of our baseball team on the field once basketball is over. I would imagine it will take a few games for the basketball guys to get back into the flow of things between the white lines and to get our lineup adjusted. We start the season with some hard games. Three of our first four games are against AAA competition, and although we have been playing well, I am sure there will be an adjustment period when we finally get all our players together on the diamond for the first time. Monday March 15 at Cumberland County Tuesday March 16 at Rhea County Thursday March 18 Sunbright at home Saturday March 20 Cookeville at home Good luck to all the Tigers, Basketball and Baseball next week. Rockwood

Rockwood lost 3-4 to Catholic this evening. The next game pitted Oliver Springs against Cumberland Co. I had to leave before the end of the game, Cumberland was ahead 7-0 when I left. The Rockwood/Catholic game was a good one. The bright side of this loss was there were only 3 plate appearances that did not result in the batter putting the ball in play (one strikeout and 2 walks (1 intentional)). Rockwood hit the ball, but usually right to someone. I thought our pitching was good, we lost the game on errors. I believe they will put it together soon. They have the talent to be a very good club. RHSfan

Skwerl, King has a beautiful campus, a brand new field, a wonderful indoor facility, and a great coach. I can't say enough good about the place. They don't have lights on the field yet, but the coach said that would be one of their next projects. They just recently built a new athletic center, and the baseball team wound up with full use of the old Gym. It's an ideal setup. Tell your dad I said hello. RHSfan

    Greenback

Hack, I have met your coach, and I am impressed. It is rare when a single A school has a REAL baseball coach, especially rural single A's. That is one reason I have been so impressed with Rockwood, we have a real baseball person coaching baseball, not just another teacher who does it for the coaching suppliment. You know what Lane has done for Rockwood baseball. He put us on the map. I see the same thing happening at Greenback. When you have a coach who knows baseball and is genuinely interested in improving the program, good things are going to happen. RHSfan

The team was at the field, they just didn't show up to play ball. I did hear they had a very good practice today, so maybe they are back on track. RHSfan

Gilmore, Robinson, and Chandler. Good pitching performance by all three. We led the first 3 or 4 innings, had one bad inning, and came back within one run. If I remember correctly, Cumberland Co. scored all their runs in one inning. Lane is still moving some players around. Partly because we are shorthanded, playing without the basketball players and partly to see who can fill the positions best. Overall, I thought Rockwood performed well. A few errors here and there, a dropped ball or two, a few walks, all hurt Rockwood, but they are all things that can be addressed and corrected. Take away one bad inning and Rockwood wins big time. The more they play, the fewer bad innings they will have, IMHO. RHSfan

    Rockwood

Rockwood fans, the scrimmage with Morristown East has been postponed due to bad field conditions at Morristown. They must have had much more snow than Rockwood. It has tentatively been rescheduled for this coming Friday. RHSfan

Hey Xtreme, I see you did it again!!!!!!!!!!! RHSfan
  20. Raider16, I too, like the idea of a public baseball tournament, whether it be official or unofficial. There are too many good public school teams in middle and west Tennessee who never make it to the state tournament because they can't get past the private school powerhouses. Maybe when the 1.8 multiplier takes effect, that problem will take care of itself. RHSfan

    Rockwood

Xtreme, Morristown East (AAA) is a level above Rockwood (A). The Rockwood guys will have to be ready to play their 'A' game to compete with Mo-East. ET played with and against several of their players this past summer and he can tell you they should be a pretty good team. If I remember correctly, they have about 5 OUTSTANDING senior pitchers and a senior thirdbaseman that you just can't get one by. This will be a good test for Rockwood. RHSfan
