Laz, I have not been on this forum in a while, get me up to speed. You are saying that even with the multiplier in effect, the privates are beating the publics 30-17? WOW, I guess the multiplier was not large enough. Maybe moving the privates up TWO classes would make more competitive games. RHSfan

I think this will be the year that Harriman makes it. They probably don't have enough depth in the pitching to make a run in the tournament if they get in the looser's bracket right away, but their bats will take them a long way. RHSfan

Lebanon area basketball fans, I just saw that Jeremy Lunn (Wilson Central, 2004) scored a career high 17 points for Faulkner University in a win over Shorter College.

Go ahead. Check it out! Faulkner is a top notch NAIA program. Faulkner won the NCCAA World Series in 2001, and since that time has become the winningest program in Alabama among 4 year colleges with a 68% winning percentage. At some ballparks, such as Busch Stadium, ushers are the ones responsible for foul balls down the lines. Are you seriously suggesting that the game balls be thrown over a fence to the umpire? They aren't supervising the strike zone, they're watching for positioning. You can't teach judgment, you can teach being in the right position to make a judgment call. Opperman. no offense, but I would think those things would be taught and learned well before an umpire gets to officiate a state tournament game. In the games I observed, these two men did nothing much more than watch the game and in one game in particular, their seating was left in the way of a player trying to make a play (dangerous in my opinion). I really can't think of anything regarding a baseball game that is so important that supervisors must sit on the field of play to do their job. There are less conspicuous places to be rather than on the field of play. MHO. RHSfan

In the state single A baseball tournament, 3 games out of 13 resulted in a public school being victorious over a private. Lucky there were 4 public schools in the tournament or the publics wouldn't have faired as well as they did. I still consider that domination. BTW, who took home the gold ball? Public or Private???????????? RHSfan

In addition to Matt Goddard having the highest batting average in the single A tournament, he had the highest batting average in all classes in the entire tournament. Good job Matt. RHSfan By the way Matt, you can pay your commission on the towel bat anytime!!!!!!

Although Rockwood didn't bring home the gold ball, we did lead some catagories at the state tournament. Congratulations to Matt Goddard for leading the class A tournament with a .778 batting average and to E.T. McCreary for leading the on base catagory with an .818 on base percentage and Goddard coming in second with .700. In addition to Matt leading the batting average catagory, Rockwood had another player in the top ten. E.T. finished with .600 batting average. McCreary also led the most walks catagory with 6. Rockwood was fourth in team batting average with a .319 team batting average and third in team fielding with a .934 fielding percentage. Unfortunately, Rockwood led in one other catagory-Runners left on base, with a whopping 11 runners stranded in one game!!!!! Congratulations to all the guys on a very successful 30 win season! VG, Thanks. I consider it a successful season to have made it to the state tournament. Just getting there is not as good as taking the gold ball home, but successful nonetheless. Rockwood just completed it's first 30 win season ever! Not nearly as successful as a 40 win season, but in baseball you compete against yourself, you do the best that YOU can do, you try to do better than you did your last outing. If you succeed in those things, you have had a successful game, season or whatever. Not only Rockwood, but all the teams that made it to the state tournament are to be congratulated on a great season. Whether your team was the first one out of the tournament or the last one left standing, my hat is off to you for your success in being there. RHSfan

Hey imthathard, do you have a problem with all publics or is it just Unaka and Rockwood? Rockwood may be home now, but I think they won as many games in the state tournament as Chattanooga Christian and Friendship Christian combined. RHSfan

Unaka, congratulations on a great year! Just remember, for a rural public single A school to get to the state tournament and get to compete with the best - That is something to be proud of and remember always! Don't let the snobs get you down, maybe someday us lowly east Tennessee teams can get together and have our own tournament! There are good players on all the teams, it is just harder for the small publics to put together 9 superstars on the same team. You tried your best, be proud of this years accomplishments, and good luck to all of you in the future. RHSfan

As we pack for Memphis, I am hoping everyone gets there safely. I am starting to get excited, but I sure am dreading the drive. To our friends from Unaka, all I can say is start early!!!! Rockwood has had a pretty good season as evidenced by this thread. I would like to personally thank extremeloco for being on his best behavior and not getting this thread locked up the way he did those 13 others! 32 pages, close to 500 posts, almost 11,000 views, methink Rockwood likes their baseball!
