  1. carmel, i must agree with you. if you look at ANY poll (AP and coacht) you will see the product of hype. over the years hype doesn't win championships, so I wouldn't worry too much about what the fans have to say. lucky for the players, THEY are the ones who decides who makes it to the 'boro. there are some teams in this state that could go out and beat everyone in the top 5 by 20+ points, and they will still be ranked in the bottom 10 (or not ranked at all). people don't like change! oh well. So I repeat, aren't you glad the ladies on the court do the talking?
  2. I would have to say that Jackson NSide is at the top with an undefeated record with Chester, Gibson, Westview, and Obion. I feel that there are several Memphis AAA teams to choose from as well as Ridgeway and Oakhaven AA. I think that single A overall may be down except for Peabody who could be right there come state tournament. I think west TN is as strong as ever!
  3. oh, addressing the first post (which i forgot). if the other team DOES put the subs in, let the young girls on the bench play! they practice everyday and should have the opportunity to see some court time against the players they will be duking it out with in the future. it really depends on the situation as well. but compassion should always come into play...and always remember that one day it could be YOUR team on the losing end of the same senario!!!
  4. i think that the coach should play to win. there is an extent to how gracious you can be! i have seen games that are put away become close again because the winning team put in subs or stopped pressing. you can't fault the losing coach, he/she is trying to win as well. if the other coach puts in subs and i am getting beat by 20pts, i will do whatever i can do to win the game, or at lest make it respectable (for the sake of my players integrity). on the other hand, i had better be ready to see the other starters come back in and feel the wrath!! i don't think you should fault a losing coach by not "giving up" and allowing his girls to get beat bad. now if they are winning by 30 or more, get your younger girls some playing time. 20-25 pts. is not running up the score in my book. you may feel differently, that's just my opinion. if we're going down...let's go down fighting!!!
  5. But who won? Are you saying that since Dyer Co hung with them, we should believe it is because Westview is not that good? It sounds like your dogging your own team.
  6. Rowsey (Chester CO) had 32 tonight, could have had 42! The game was a run away and the calling got a little lax in the 2nd half (which is understandable). You know, it's hard for a post to get that many if you think about it. A post can only shoot as much as the guards can get the ball to her! Especially if she is keyed-on and being helped on as much as they do Rowsey! Rowsey earns her three's the old fashion way. Of course if you key on her too much, Thomas, the freshman sensation, will have 32, or the guards start bombing 3's!!!!!!!!

    Officiating

I agree with all of your statements. However, as one can tell on this message board, officials don't have many friends when it comes to basketball. I feel that a good official will stand up for his / her partner in the heat of the battle. If something needs to be said then it should be to the official first(after the game or at halftime) and if they can't take some constructive criticism then go to the supervisor. There are alot of bad officials and good ones and I think it is the supervisor's job to critic them all. If an official is not in shape then it is the supervisor's fault for putting them out there. IF they can't call then it is the supervisor's fault as well. But the problem is that no one wants to officiate anymore because of all the abuse officials take. Therefore, you are not getting young former basketball players to enter the profession because they know what is coming!
  8. Let's get rid of them and pass out whistles to the fans!

    Officiating

If was an official I wouldn't want to work with you! I bet your one of those guys that everytime your partner makes a call your over there hugging the coaches neck!
  10. The key to all is "legal guarding position". If a player is airborne and no one is in guarding position or a set position then any contact made would be initiated by the defense. Now if a player is set in a position on the floor he/she can turn, twist, brace, shuffle feet, etc. to absorb a hit from an airborne shooter. They do not have to stand perfectly still. It may look bad but that is the way it should be called, although not word for word from the book.
  11. Feet do not have to be set for a defender to take a charge. He/ she must be in legal guarding position. Once the defender establishes legal guarding position, by facing the player with the ball, then he/she can move, slide and jump straight up in the air to maintain it. So when you say, "His feet wasn't set", you are not always right. I would venture to say that 75% of the block/charge calls should be charges! Possibly higher.
  12. well, you're right about scott hill's coach chandler. i didn't see him suit up and play! eason had 17 pts. (3, 3-pointers). i think coach chandler is a very good coach, scotts hill was just out matched last night. not that they don't have a good team and an extremely good player in eason.
  13. Whose team has NO WINS that we are speaking of?
  14. What about 2002 single A nominee Crystal Eason of Scotts Hill, (who was a sophomore last year) which by the way, has over 2000 pts on her career as a JUNIOR!
  15. Just on the official McDonald's High School All-American Game web-site and noticed that congratulations go out to Brittany Frazier of Oak Ridge and Rebecca Rowsey of Chester County for being nominated to the game. It says that the nominations will be reduced to top 100 on Feb.17th, with the final team being announced on ESPN Feb.27th. Good luck girls. I was also suprised that there were no more girls from TN nominated! We have PLENTY of great talent across the state!!!!
  16. Since when did it become a four year award? I will bet Rowsey works as hard as anyone in the state!
  17. I'd have to say for AA-REBECCA ROWSEY from Chester County. At 6'3, she has been listed as one of the top (running) post players in the COUNTRY, and was recruited by some of the best women college coaches/programs in the nation! Of course, will be playing in the SEC for the Lady Dawgs of Georgia. Meanwhile, she is terrorizing the lane on defense and offensively averaging around 20 points/game. Can dribble, pass, shoot from anywhere on the court (shoots with right or left hand just as effectively around the basket), and runs the floor like a guard! thebeave, a sincere thanks for the words on behalf of Rowsey, however, I have seen every game Chester County has played this year, and Rowsey spends about 90% of the game on the post! Usually swarmed (one def.in front/def. in back...box and 1...triangle and two). Bottom line is, if you are a CC fan, you know that she takes more pride in her defense than her offense (have seen her block 14 shots in one game, averaged 5 blocks/game last year... and have watched a game where the other team did not shoot a single shot inside the lane!). I have also seen her score at-will against solid competition. Really doesn't care if she scores a single point as long as CC wins. Very unselfish player and still has around 20 a game!! Highly intelligent, beautiful, wonderful person...I could go on and on. THIS GIRL REALLY CHANGES THE GAME!!
  18. A real defensive struggle! 62 FOULS? Sounds like a hack fest. How many players fouled out??
  19. Does anybody else shoot?
  20. So what was the score????
  21. I think that it will be Westview in a hard fought game.
  22. My top five would be Jackson North Side, Chester Co., Westview, Obion, and Gibson Co. All five have a great teams and I would also throw Trenton in there as well.
  23. Then why are YOU making a BIG DEAL out of it????????? Evidently you are a player because you are way too upset over the "lack" of anyone talking of your team. And a scrimmage is nothing to base ANYTHING on. MOST teams go into a scrimmage not to play to win but to try different things and player combinations. You all may be a "legend in your own minds", however your thinking doesn't win games or championships. Take my advice and quit contemplating on why everyone else doesn't see your team the way you do and start concentrating on HOW to make believers out of people! And I will not respond to any more posts on this thread. Good luck the rest of the season.
