  1. To wrestle a weight class at nationals, you must wrestle at that weight once during the year, not just make the weight.
  2. I know Ibrahim from overton is planning on going. He wrestled one match at 112 to qualify for that weight, but may still go 119.
  3. Another senior that finished his career on a sour note was Ari Ibrahim of Overton. he has been a great wrestler and has accomplished a ton, in only his fourth year of wreslting. He will be a very succesful wreslter at the next level. He was very upset at his loss on saturday. There should be no shame losing to Cordell, becuase he is a x3 state champion. Ari is a class act and one of the best kids I have known. He is a strong individual who has gone through a lot and has made a great person out of himself. I want to congratulate him on his accomplishments and wish him good luck at the nationals in April.
  4. in response to Ibrahim not being active in neutral. he is one of the states best in that position. The only reason that he lost to Fuller was that Fuller stayed away from contact the whole match. Yes, Ibrahim did make a mistake, but Fuller masde no attempts at takedowns. he did not get called for stalling, and for some reason, they never do against Ari. He pushes too hard in neutral and never sees the benefit of a stall call. it has been happening all year to him. Unfortunately, he won;t get to see Fuller again, because Fuller would have to beat Cordell to get to the finals.
  5. I agree with most of your predictions except a few. Rudas will not make it to the finals, someone will upset him. I don't know who will do it, but he will be upset along the way. coleman over Ortiz. Ibrahim over Cordell. Holliman over West. HAyes of Overton will be in the finals at 215 and will beat Inman of Smyrna.
  6. After last year's awful showing in state ( only two place winners), I think this region will have more than 10 this year. 103 is very tough in our region, along with HWT. There could be more than one state place winner coming from those weight classes. We could get two place winners from 160, and 171 along with a few in some other weight classes. Good job with improvement this year coaches, and good luck this weekend and at states next weekend. Let us go out and get some high place winners at the state next weekend!!! Coach Pozdol
  7. Were Eric and Derrick Jordan of overton both state champions?
  8. OVerton is only graduating 2 seniors. We will have 7 juniors next year. The only two wrestlers that we will lose are Ibrahim (big loss) and our 152 lbs. The strength of our team will return!!! We will still be young, but with way more talent than last year.
  9. the argument about the best 8 teams being their is absurd. I believe Kenwood and Rossview could beat at least one or two of the participants in this weekends tourny. What about last year. I have no doubt that Clevelan was the second best DI school in the state, but were not able to wrestle in the state duals. It does us no good to complain unless there is something we, as coaches, can change about the state duals. Personally, I see nothing wrong with letting one winner from each region to the duals, but if you are going to place the top four, then the top four teams in the state should be in attendance. I believe that they are this year, but last year they were not. Even this year, if we go by TN USA rankings, then the fourth ranked team in D1 is not particpating in the duals.
  10. Dragon Wreslter, I don't think you need to find a pin, I think you will need to pin at all three of those weight classes. Clarksville is very good at knowing their roles and not giving up pins to opposing teams studs. As for the other question, I think coach Cobb (CLK) showed he knows how to change his lineup, and I think coach Gabriel is great at adjusting his (up or down), but does not have the bodies to do that as much this year.
  11. Is Collierville completely healthy? We have seen them in two or three tournaments and they have not had all of their wreslters. Collierville will have to get some pins in the light weights (103, 112, 119) to win.
  12. I'm impressed!!! I guess I was wrong. The KKW HWT must have done some improving since the beginning of the year. Who was the backup HWt at Clarksville, and is their starter a senior?
  13. Did Clarksville's HWT win that match?? I'll bet he did. The reason the normal HWT dropped, was because KKW 215 is better than their HWT. The KKW HWT is not very good. That was just good coaching, put your better wrestler on the other teams better wrestler if you can.
  14. Will Johnson be there next year or will he gain weight. Noman is so light right now that he will return next year at 103 and be one of the strongest in the state. He still has a lot of technique to learn, but isn't that what summer wrestling is for. He also has a pretty good teaching partner in Ibrahim.

  16. Do not forget about Overton. They had to beat a very tough FRA team to get there and I give the coaches credit for puttting out a tough team every year. If they can get by Clarksville, which i believe they can, then they match up very well with Franklin. Franklin will only get 3 pins (DAVIS, Konz, and one other) while they will give up more than that. It will come down to a few toss up matches from both teams. IF both get there, it should be an exciting match. I predict the top four will be Bradley, Soddy, Overton, collierville.
  17. Noman from Overton is one of the best freshman and I think he would wrestle varsity on Majority of the teams in TN, but he is at Overton. Overton has been known to have very good light weights and Noman is another one, but with a very high potential. It would not surprise me if you were talking about him next year, the way Shelton and Puckett have appeared on the board this year. He will be a competitor for the state title if he continues to wrestle!!!!
  18. Technique, conditioning and mindset are everything in a state tournament. I can't say anything for his mindset, he is always ready to wrestle, but Shelton will not go far if he does not get in better shape. He could do very well, but I predict he will place 5th or 6th. I have seen him wrestle 4 or 5 times and he looks good, except when someone knows more technique or can push him into the third period.
  19. I liked overtime the way it was when i wrestled. An extra 3 periods of 1 minute. It gave the wrestler in better condition an edge. I was 23-0 in overtime in high school and college. I also like the way it is ran in college now. I do not think the winning wrestler should win by the luck of the flip. It is not fair to either wrestler.

    "The Pit"

If I remember correctly, there used to bleachers on all sides of the gym. I can remember some very loud and crazy matches between Ryan and Overton. Do they still move the bleachers to all 4 sides of the gym or am I mistaken.
  21. Don't look past Davis from Overton, he is a solid wrestler that knows how to keep the matches close.

    103

There are many 103's that can place. Shelton has been dominating, but has trouble with high technique wrestlers. I think That 103 is wide open. Puckett is a returning place winner, along with Rudas. Those would be my two favorites, with Shelton being able to beat anyone, but he will lose along the way and get either 3rd or fifth. Anything can happen at this weight class, but I believe one of those three wrestlers will win states.
  23. I would be truly surprised if Whit went 119. He has a better chance at a pin at 112 and MBA pin at 119. If Whit goes 119 and loses to Simpson, the MBA 112 will pin the Ryan backup. RYan will split 6-6 if Whit goes 112, and will lose 9-0 if he loses at 119. Whit has had chances before to wreslte at 119 (Ibrahim) but was held out for some reason( don't know why). He will probably, for points and team reason, stay at 112. I don't think Hiller could make 119, he has been at 125 or 130 all year.
  24. We have wrestled both teams and took a spanking from both. Both teams are solid, but i think MBA is going to get the upset. 103 and 130 may turn out to be very important matches. Good luck to both teams.
  25. There is nothing wrong with teaching a kid to stall out in a dual meet. Each wreslter that got a tech saved their team a point. I agree that a coach should teach their kids to beat everyone, but there are times that the kids just need to go as long as they can without getting pinned. I don't think they should run, but if they do, isn't that the refs job to call the stall. The other school needs to teach their kids how not to be stalled out. Some wrestlers are almost impossible to go 6 minutes with because they are rough enough to force the kids to open up and get decked.
