  1. That's right, TSSAA says 1984. I was thinking it was the next year after my brother at Hixson won it at the same weight.
  2. Close. If I remember right Steve won the state @ 165 his senior year and the first to do so for the Bears in 1983. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one legman & Co.
  3. Thanks ringworm. May I remind you that kind of strength help them to build to a base too.

    Nic Bundy

I believe he will go to the prep school rom what I understand, but his dad would love to have him closer, like UTC. Me too. Selfish me.

    Nic Bundy

Enjoyed seeing the memories of the last years or so. Nic is driven and ready for life. Good job by Brett Morrell's uncle Chris. Rick, what can we say... prud papa Loved those big smiles by Coach Gonyea and Bobby Hale after our Josh became another Bundy victim. I believe I even saw a smile on Josh's face too.
  6. I believe Mumfor and Brighton, on the far north side of Memphis has a similar arrangement. Aslo Eagleville and Riverdale HS in Rutherford Co.
  7. Now that explains why it was said, "there were options" for Steve.
  8. Found it... Position: Head Coach School/Organization: Cleveland High School Location: Cleveland, TN Date Posted: 02/22/2006 ONE OF THE SOUTH'S TOP HIGH SCHOOLS IS SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED HEAD WRESTLING COACH. MUST HAVE WINNING TRACK RECORD, TO DEVELOP CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING PROGRAM. www.joneswrestlingcenter.com SEND RESUMES TO: DOUG GREENE 4300 Mouse Creek Road NW Cleveland, Tn 37312 dgreene@clevelandschools.org It was so neat seeing Al at State once again. He's been at a few years. One things forsure, no one has more backing in recent years than Cleveland HS.
  9. Say again? Who called? Also (side note) BTW - If anyone would like to relocate to Bolivar, TN. & has business operations experience, and perhaps investigate coaching opportunities in Hardeman Co. (Buford Pusser's neighboring county years ago) ... e-mail me - adsom@bellsouth.net Anderson Tractor and Motor Cyles needs a GM.
  10. Hey my good man,,, are you counting the two teams in region 8 as well as 5? We're getting ready to bring our boys over to your club real soon!!!
  11. Oh, and does anyone know anything about two for one deals? I believe one can be in HS and the other in middle school, something like that. I'm not trying to stir things up- BTW. I just don't like it when folks act like they know nothing about any tuition/housing support. We all know it exists and it is not always based on income either. ND, should we talk about any religious breaks in HS and College? I know BYU offers reduced tuition if you're Mormon and I've heard about Catholic support as well. I say,,, forget it and move on. In the 70's, we had to wrestle Baylor, ND, Ryan and McCallie; we got a few big wins back when it was all together (even with Barbee, Watson, Potter and others lured away). We just tried that much harder to improve and be competitive. Steve may surprise us one day, you never know. Domination against D1 foes will not surprise us and maybe not even against both D1 & D2, but just having the chance to experience this would. What a huge draw that would be. Big Mac or McKenzie may get some more wrestling dates. Tanner Johnson is pure rumor. I say... "Let's Get Ready to Rumble!!"
  12. I'm not so sure how much of what television's info is actually invalid rumors. I've been told by a couple of parents that they have received offers they couldn't deny or "refuse." I will say that one parent told me that his boy was also very talented in other areas and that helped get this opportunity, however. The other was primarily for wrestling, from what I understand, but maybe the gpa played into the equation as well.
  13. The old legman left more on the shelf than he thought. He couldn't stand it. Hey, he may say to all, D1 & D2, "bring it on." Steve Henry finally got one & well deserved!! But Steve L. just has to take that challenge again. It's in his blood. I knew something was brewing, but not this. BC fans are thinking, "No one can touch the Bears now!!" This sounds fun. What do you think sly?
  14. Getting confident aren't we? I suppose you have a right to.
  15. Cast stones why don't we? The administration didn't run him out of town like many others, such as UTC's Ronnie Shoemate another highly successful coach of championship caliber B-ball. Is it possible that others took responsibility and moved on not placing blame on the coaches or anyone else? I believe that showed some class by making a statement that "the buck stops here" I think allowing a coach to coach and bring lesser talent up to par with other teams is fabulous and that's what Gc has done well and will continue to. Recruiting is not going to be his strong suit, just driving the boys to optimum levels. Why did you sign up a few minutes ago to say that? Let go of it already!!! A lot of parents have since that day and chose him to be their coach and 99% of those parents have loved and appreciated him. Let go!!!
  16. I'm too one track minded for the clock. Irishdad would probably do better than I.
  17. Vol, all I'm attempting to say is that HS level wrestling is like predicting whether it's Doctor Jaeckel or Mr. Hyde showing up at that tournament. Give these kids a chance to prove themselves at the big dance. State qualifiers should have some weight in seeding, medalists more, head-to-head and rankings a part of the criteria as well. Oh, and region placements with the extra 4th place going to the strongest region(s). Allowing for weaker regions over a certain geography to knock themselves off in pig tails may work and then after going up against the tougher region champs and top seeds. If they're good enough they can medal in the double eliminations. It all comes out in the wash, if the brackets are done properly and it's not a carry tournament.
  18. Tex, I agree they did prepare well for all of their match ups in this tournament including Travis Creagan's match. Very impressive. I heard you were looking for me, but once again, we don't hook up. adsom@bellsouth.net
  19. Creagan is a winner and always will be. He did last year agsint a brute and again this year. He reminds me of Jordan Leen, one who always finds a way. Abrigo was TF'ed by Holliman during regular season and majored by one of our non-medalists as well. Remember in HS especially, "on any given day..." or tournament.
