  1. The biggest reason i would like to send my daughter to a private school is because she now goes to a very small, rural public school that offers very limited courses and i feel she would have many more choices at a private school as they tend to offer more varied classes. For example our school only offers one foreign language, most privates and larger publics offer more than that. She is a straight A student, but i always wonder how she would compare to straight A students in a private school or the larger publics, however i guess i will get a better idea of that when she takes her pre-ACT June 11. Lets just be honest i think its also known that private schools also attract better teachers, with good morals. I cant tell you the number of our teachers who i know have had relationships with junior and senior students and even gone on to marry them once they have graduated from school. If your point was to find out if my motives were sports related i can assure not. She has worked hard for academics and i have no doubt will go to college with a scholarship for such. As far as her sports go, she plays on a very, very , good travel softball team which is all the recognition she will need if she is to play a sport in college. Hope this cleared things up for you. One more thing baldcoach : you may play the toughtest out of region schedule but when you are playing for state titles those teams dont count...its the small public schools you are competing with and i never did get your response to how you compare privates to the small A schools i mentioned to you in earlier post.
  2. Rockwood is returning almost the entire team that made it to the sectional game this year. They started 4 freshmen, 3 sophomores, a junior and a senior ( that already has a great player waiting on her position behind her), with some good pitching we should be contenders.
  3. Ok Baldcoach, if you dont see the advantages you have over the small, rural public schools you compete with, then compare yourself with the ones in my area, most of which im sure you have never heard of. Rockwood, Harriman, Oakdale, Sunbright, Midway, Greenback, Cosby, TSD, just to name a few, now compare your school or any other private that competes with them. And besides the number of students (which is controlled at your school by selective enrollment), tell me how these types of schools measure up. As a matter of fact our middle school football coach just left our school to take a position at CAK as their middle school football coach for more money, wow they must be the only private school around that pays more than public school according to you. Softballscout points out that Goodpasture plays the toughest schedule around and im sure thats true, they play lots of larger public schools and they are very successful but when it boils right down to it the above mentioned schools are the teams they start every year off competing for a state title against and they probably have never heard of them either, because they know that there is no chance they will ever have to play them. They also have 5 graduating seniors signing D1 college scholarships, well the above named schools in their histories have never had even 1 in softball, you guys must be the luckiest people in the whole state to have the athletes just fall into your schools.
  4. Baldcoach, Nothing I said was misleading, you and softballscout went on and on about paying taxes to the public school as if you are the only ones and we all should owe you something. So i just wanted to thank you, didnt want you to think it went unnoticed. Im sure you are a great guy and we are all entitled to our opinion thats why these boards are so popular. This debate could go on forever and there is not right answer, but i think it is agreed by all (even you) that the private schools both large and small have great advantage over the poor, rural public schools that they are competing against.
  5. I would just like to personally thank softballscout and baldcoach for paying for my child's education and giving us poor folk books and such, what would we ever do without the tax money of you rich folk. Congrats on your morals and careful not to fall of your high horse. Personally i would love for my child to attend a private school but to be honest she never will because I cant afford it. Unlike softballscout who gives up vacation and new cars for his children i would have to give up things like mortgage payments and groceries. However my child does still have good morals, values and will grow up to be just as good a person coming from our pathetic little rural public high school, because contrary to what you guys may think, money does not make you a good person!
  6. Yes mr Goodpasture those public schools are probably bigger and better than your private school. BUT thats not the teams you are playing for a state title now is it. NO you are playing in single A where half the teams we went to play this year dont even have lights on their fields. Well you might get a little competition this year at state because you are playing all other private schools barring the one public school that got in. Recruiting and paying coaches more money does happen, maybe not at all private schools but it does at most, you have you sources on what you know and i have mine. A softball scout maybe you and the other parents do pay for what you kids get, well that is just my point, in rural, poor public schools our parents cant afford to pay for new uniforms, field maintenence (by the way we dont even have a field we play on a city owned field at a recreational park) or paint to make paws. As far as travel ball goes this will be the first year my daughter is playing that so i will just have to see how it goes, I have high hopes and im sure she is going to have fun.
  7. Another thing, your comment about big cities and parents sending their daughters elsewhere to school to be safe, that may be true but all these private schools dont compete with the "big city" schools, thats why they play in single A where they compete with the smallest, poorest most rural schools in the state.
  8. 7 of the 8 teams in the single A state softball tournament are private schools even though they are outnumbered by public schools 3-4 to 1. I dont think that is coincendence or luck. Maybe you are speaking just for the small private schools but this is about all of them. You comment about other sports...well this isnt about other sports either, we are in the softball forum. The parent that is sponsering another student didnt even know the family until they were approached by a softball coach that told them someone was willing to pay for them to attend school there and play softball. I think that is a little more than helping a friend out, these people didnt even know the family that was going to "sponser" their child. And no our coaches do not just give up before the fight but look who won every single A sectional except 1. There is no argument, the multiplier for next season will take care of alot of the problem and if the school you work for is so small then they will stay in single A and compete with the appropriate teams. But the larger private schools that keep their enrollment down (with huge waiting lists), to play in single A with have to move up to the next division or choose to play in Division II.
  9. That may be true about college but that is not what we are talking about. All colleges also give scholarships and recruit players. All public schools do not, some private schools do and some dont. College has nothing to do with this argument. Public schools outnumber private schools in the state 3or 4 to 1, yet every year private schools dominate state tounaments, thats not coincendence or luck that the best athletes and coaches just happen to go to those schools. I know for a fact two athletes from the small town that i live in that were given scholarships to play baseball at Webb. They live less than a mile from the high school that my child attends but somebody else is paying for them to go there to play a sport. I know another child that is being "sponsered" by another parent at a local christian academy to go there and play a sport because thier parents could not afford to send this child to that school, now if thats not recruiting or scholarship what would you call that? And how are the public schools suppose to compete? They get close alot but it always comes down private schools. Almost 20 years have passed since a public school has won a single A softball title, Coincendence/Luck?? I dont think so.
  10. Still cant argue the point that the private schools have dominated single A for 20 years. I am not jumping on any band wagon I just stated the facts about public school and if the private school you are related to is that small you will continue to compete in the division where you belong but these larger will move up to face more compitition.
  11. Correction to my post....it has been since 1986 since a PUBLIC school has won the state class A tournament.
  12. Am I right in noticing that 6 of the 8 teams in the single A state tournament are private schools? I dont think its coincidence or just luck that all the better athletes, and coaches choose private schools and they keep their enrollment down so that they can stay in the lowest divisions. However next year maybe things will even out with the multiplier and alot of the privates having to move up. Just to state a fact...its been since 1986 that a private school won the Singele A state softball tournament. A good example of the advantage the privates have is this, at the public school my daughter attends and plays softball 2 years ago the softball coach of 30 some years decides to retire. The job was given to a lady teacher with zero coaching experience because she was the only one that wanted the job and there was no teaching opening to hire a teacher/coach. So she had to get a volunteer assistant who really ends up being the head coach, however he has a full time day job and is not available to the school or the girls all the time. Private schools can hire and pay whoever they choose to coach and they dont even have to teach. And no matter what anybody says good, consistant coaching makes all the difference. I dont know the perfect solution but i think its obvious that especially in single A the public schools are at a huge disadvantage.
  13. I would just like to say CONGRATULATIONS to the lady tigers on an outstanding season, I think you ended up 20-9. You were undefeated in the district and the region until the region final game. You have so much to be proud of!! The game tonight was great 2 teams played their hearts out in a very exciting game and you came up just a little short but that means you just work harder to get further next year. Good job to UH, great game and good experience up at your place, good luck at State. One more thing, thanks to our coaches Larry Brackett and Donna Young who have put up with way more than they should have had to this season and still took us this far. You know who appreciates you and the job you do, and i hope to see you back next year where we will try once again to take it all the way!! Watch out for us next year guys, we only lose three and return our entire outfield, infield (except 1st base ) and our pitcher and catcher will be back. Have a great summer everybody, and happy traveling !!!!
  14. CAK is a very complete team. Their pitcher is one of the best Ive seen. She has speed, and excellent change up that she will through on any count, and a curve ball. They play solid defense and yesterday when we played them they hit very very well throughout their lineup but the first time we played them this year (a game we won) they didnt hit nearly as well. Manufacture runs against them, be ready to hit because she has great control. Hope this helps and Good luck.
  15. Thanks zachsdad for helping me clarify that!
  16. No, I am not wrong! A walk is an unearned run, regardless of how it is brought in, it was still put on base as a walk (which is basically the same as being on by and error). A walk is not included in the number of at-bats for a player, so how can you score an earned run from an non at bat. For example, if a player comes up to bat 5 times and gets 2 hits and a walk, their line for that game would be 2 for 4 with a walk, not 2-5. Thats why a person reaching base on a walk is counted as an unearned run. Look it up.
  17. Just to clarify, walks are never earned runs no matter how they are advanced around to score.
  18. Rockwoods girls are good fast ball hitters. Thanks for the info, I hope with good defense and timely hitting we can make it to the state. Wish us luck!!!!
  19. Any ideas how these two will match up? Or any info on University School at all?
  20. CAK won 10-0 in 5. They hit the ball really well today and Rockwood didnt, that pretty much sums up the game. Any info on University School?? Do they have good pitching, hitting what is the summary of their team?
  21. I think its at Rockwood at 4pm.
  22. Anybody know the score of CAK vs Harriman??
  23. Rockwood won 12-7, and will now play the winner of CAK and Harriman Wed. at 4pm in Rockwood. Go Tigers!!!!!
  24. You have a very good point Goose, the girls are focused on bigger things. Last year winning the district tourney took alot out of them having to come out of the losers brackett and beat a team twice. This year they played focused and kept their goals in check. Im really proud of them. You and sportsmom are also correct about the MVP, it could have been several, Mitchell and Gallaher had great hitting, and Wilkey played a heck of a first base saving us several times. Do we have Midway Mon.? and do you know what time?
