  3. It would be a big mistake for Ooltewah to drive all the way up to Oak Ridge and think this is a sure win. Although Oak Ridge is not as tough as past years, they are no pushover, and could very easily rub this on in the Owls faces. I still think Ooltewah is one of the surprises this year because they lost so much from last year, but a win here and they will win out. A loss here would be devastating to the team this year. This should really be a good game. I really expect Oak Ridge to bring it at the Ship.
  4. Riverdale winning is certainly no surprise, but I sure didn't believe it would be this easy. This is not good news for the rest of 5A, if Riverdale starts turning it up now. Maybe Smyrna is not as good as I thought.
  5. Yeah, almost no chance Ooltewah or Farragut will lose to Soddy. I may have missed that one.
  6. Agreed, enough already. On to Oak Ridge.
  7. You are probably right Grad, and I almost just left those games off, including the Soddy/Farragut, because Soddy won't beat them either. But I was trying to include all the options.' One loss and Ooltewah takes the region regardless.
  8. Sometimes you have to win ugly. The good teams somehow are able to win, even when they are not on top of their game. I watched the Soddy/McMinn game, and Soddy had one good drive, and if it weren't for McMinn mistakes it would have been a blowout. I am assuming that this one would have been the same for Oak Ridge. You line these two teams up player to player, and Oak Ridge is easily bigger, better, faster, and so on. You do have to hand it to Soddy to at least stay in the game when they are so outmanned. Maybe they are improving? Good luck to both teams.
  9. This should be a great game, and I agree with the fact that Sevier County will win this one. Bearden has their best team in who knows when, and Sevier County can play football. It's at Sevier; I have to go with them. As for this being the best game in a long time that does not include DB... well that could only mean you don't watch anyone else. There have been plenty of great games in TN high school football that did not include DB on all sides of the state. I'm a little surprised you or anyone would make this claim.
  10. This is NOT DB's best team in 10 years. You gotta be kidding me. They are definitely better than last year, and I agree that was one of their weaker teams. But this being their best... no way. I've followed them for quite awhile and this is not their best team in 10 years.
  11. WB faces Heritage and Bradley and should win both. Oak Ridge faces Ooltewah (Home) and Farragut (Away).
  12. Looking at the TSSAA website under the 5A playoff bracket, it looks like Ooltewah would host that game.
  13. Things get interesting from this point forward, with Ooltewah the only team in 2-5A guaranteed a place in the playoffs regardless of what happens. In these scenarios, I am going to assume both William Blount and McMinn County will win out, because both teams play Bradley and Heritage. I don't see much chance for an upset in either of those games. So that will leave McMinn 7-3-overall and 5-2-in the regions, while WB will finish 6-4-overall and 4-3-in the region. First scenario--starting from the top: Ooltewah beats Oak Ridge and Soddy Daisy Farragut beats Oak Ridge and Soddy Daisy Region finishes this way: 1. Ooltewah 7-0 10-0 2. Farragut 6-1 7-3 3. McMinn County 5-2 7-3 4. William Blount 4-3 6-4 Oak Ridge would be left out with a 3-4-region record and 5-5 overall. Second scenario (my best guess--with Ooltewah losing at Oak Ridge this coming week): Ooltewah loses to Oak Ridge and beats Soddy Daisy Farragut Beats Oak Ridge and beats Soddy Daisy Region finishes this way: 1. Ooltewah 6-1 9-1 (1st place due to win over Farragut) 2. Farragut 6-1 7-3 3. McMinn County 5-2 7-3 4. William Blount 4-3 6-4 (head to head over Oak Ridge) Oak Ridge finishes 4-3 6-4 (left out due to loss to Willam Blount)[/b] Scenarior three: Ooltewah loses to Oak Ridge and beats Soddy Daisy Farragut loses to Oak Ridge and beats Soddy Daisy 1. Ooltewah 6-1 9-1 2. McMinn County 5-2 7-3 (head to head over OR) 3. Oak Ridge 5-2 7-3 (3-w tie, overall record) 4. Farragut 5-2 6-4 (head to head over MC--3-w tie loser) WB is left out because they finish 4-3 in region. Fourth scenario: Ooltewah loses both to Oak Ridge and Soddy Daisy. Farragut beats Oak Ridge and beats Soddy Daisy. 1. Farragut 6-1 7-3 2. Ooltewah 5-2 8-2 (head to head over MC) 3. McMinn County 5-2 7-3 (loses head to head to Ooltewah) 4. William Blount 4-3 6-4 (head to head over OR) Oak Ridge out due to loss to WB. Fifth scenario: Ooltewah loses to both Oak Ridge and Soddy Daisy Farragut loses to both Oak Ridge and Soddy Daisy 1. Ooltewah 5-2 8-2 (head to head over MC) 2. McMinn County 5-2 7-3 (head to head over OR) 3. Oak Ridge 5-2 7-3 (loses head to head to MC) 4. Farragut 4-3 5-5 WB left off due to loss to Farragut. Final scenario: Ooltewah beats Oak Ridge and beats Soddy Daisy Farragut loses to Oak Ridge and loses to Soddy Daisy. 1. Ooltewah 7-0 10-0 2. McMinn County 5-2 7-3 3. William Blount 4-3 6-4 (3-w tie, head to head against OR) 4. Oak Ridge 4-3 6-4 (3-w tie, loses to WB, better record than F) Farragut loses out due to overall record 5-5, in spite of 4-3 region record. That's if I understand the tie-breaker rules from the TSSAA website.
  14. Personally, I thought the refs did a great job overall tonight. Maybe one missed call, but that's a pretty good game. Both teams had a turnover afterall. Good football game and the refs had nothing to do with the outcome.
  15. Saw this one on TV tonight. Ooltewah wins but by the narrowest of margins. Farragut could not stop the run; Ooltewah could not stop the pass. It was a shootout in the 4th quarter. Good game to both teams. Ooltewah 30 Farragut 28
  16. A playoff would be great for college football. I agree.
  17. I know you guys are just trying to have a little fun, but realistically speaking, this game should go down to the wire. A mistake here; a mistake there; failure to execute in a critical moment; penalties; special teams are all going to factor in this one. Whichever team executes in the little things the best is going to win this one. I simply don't see anyone going on a feeding frenzy in this one.
  18. However, what really matters is what happens on the field--the final score. Yeah, a team can dominate, but the score tells everyone that there was a weakness in McCallie that was exposed, especially with so many points in the last few minutes of the game. Two very good teams. I agree Riverdale dominated, but how in the world can you let a team score that many times in just a couple of minutes? Riverdale lost in the end, that's what goes down in history.
  19. I tend to agree, I would not have put Farragut in the poll myself, but this is how the average of all the other polls on TN 5-A football figures. Just interesting to see.
  20. I don't believe 2-5A is the best in the state this year. The last few they have, but Heritage, Bradley, Soddy are all very weak. Sure there are five teams competing, but Oak Ridge is down, Ooltewah is rebuilding, Farragut is not as strong as many thought, and McMinn is rebuilding. William Blount has stepped it up quite a bit, and made things more even, but the region simply isn't as strong as it has been in the past.
  21. B.J. Coleman to Walter Dozier --McCallie. Easily the best.
  22. Who said I was an Ooltewah fan. I never attended that school, nor have I attended any of these schools. I just enjoy hs football and in fact went to high school in another state. I do enjoy jawing with the Ooltewah fans, but you can't call me for one school or another. I just call them as I see them. Just because I favor one school or another on a given game, does not mean that I favor that school, let alone am I necessarily a fan of that school. You will find me posting on threads all over the state. Who said I was an Ooltewah fan. I never attended that school, nor have I attended any of these schools. 23. I'm always proud of TN teams who get this kind of recognition; it is good for the entire state. Congratulations to Maryville, who deserves the recognition. 24. Well, if I switched them then I would not have taken the actual averages. If I understand you correctly, you are just saying you think those averages are off just a little--that makes sense. Just gave a little different twists to multiple other polls floating around, including my own. I don't think it the average poll is bad though.
  25. I used multiple polls just to see where they would land, including all that I could find on TN 5A football teams and averaged their placement. Interesting results... 1. Dobyns-Bennett (7-0) 2. Riverdale (6-1) 3. Ooltewah (7-0) 4. Gallatin (7-0) 5. Franklin (6-1) 6. Ridgeway (7-0) 7. White Station (7-0) 8. Smyrna (6-1) 9. Dickson County (6-1) 10. Farragut (5-2) Any thoughts?
