  1. No one has responded because they don't have the guts to make this an issue. They won some games so people excuse the fact that if a few players act that way it is no big deal. The administration must be turning the other cheek because it happened all season long.
  2. Who has applied for this job and who has turned it down? Has Bruce Slatten the former coach at White County applied? He is a very good coach who was in a tough situation at White. He would be worth giving a call he has won everywhere but at Wite County. He still lives in Sparta but now coaches at Culleoka High school in Maury County. He also has what no other 7-AAA coach has a State Championship.
  3. Just wondering how much of an impact have the Sophomores had on this years White County team? I haven't seen them play yet, they were great as freshman. Are they making significant contributions? From what I saw of them last year I thought they were better than the seniors that graduated? Justwanting your opinions.
  4. When I saw them play, they only had 2-3 players that played significant minutes last year. I would like to know how much impact the super sophs Taylor, Crain, Jolley and Clark have had. From some things that I have heard, they are making a huge difference. As for Gribble, that is a shame because he has tremendous potential. But I know that your old coach did discipline him. From what I heard he had been sent to ISS several times this year before being dismissed. Which one of those boys from last year would be playing basketball now instead of football? Did you mean a senior from last year or someone who is still in school?
  5. Just interested in finding out what the coaching improvement is at Sparta, because last year WCHS drilled Livingston's eyes out twice by 20. Livingston has the same players and WCHS has more talent than they have had in the last 3-4years, so I expect WCHS to roll them again this year. WCHS by at least 20.
  6. 85warrior, Slatten I know wanted him to be a major part of the line-up. But he was very immature and hopefully he has grown up. He could be a great player. I know that Slatten told me that he could be the best offensive player he had coached. And that is saying something. Also did you play at White County? Who was your coach when you were there?
  7. The Cleveland team was good but I really don't think they were the best team in the tournament that year. I watched the whole tournament that year and the best team I saw was Perry County. They were only 37-0 and their average margin of victory--get this-- was 30+ points in the state tournament . They were on a completely different level than any team at the tournament that year. They had great size, quickness, and wow could they shoot it. Those Science Hill teams of the mid-90's were also one of the best teams. How about BGA of 1993-94 who beat Goodpasture with Ron Mercer, Drew Maddux and Sam Howard.
  8. The way I have heard it is that Gribble will be eligible in January if he passes every class this fall. That may or may not be true. I have also heard is that he may have trouble doing this. There is no doubting his talent but he is not the best player in the district, at least not yet.
  9. Here is an evaluation of the teams and the coaches in 7-AAA: Oakland- Should be good but not as good as they usually are because of the lack of depth. Will always be athletic and strong. They will execute very well and have good shooters. Coach is one of the best in the district and also the mid-state. Seigal- Should be a state tournament caliber team the next 2 years great size and quickness with excellent shooters on the perimeter. Ramsey and Jones are the best big man combo in the state. Very talented top to bottom. Coaching is suspect sometimes but had a very young team last year. Cookeville- Very smart team that makes very few mistakes. Great ball handlers and shooters who should be in the top 4 of the league the next 2 years. Very good fundamentally. Coach Bray is hands down the best coach in the league. Lebanon- Extremely athletic team who has a chance to go very far this year. They will compete for the district title this year. Coach Keil gets alot of energy out of these guys and nobody plays harder than Lebanon. They put more pressure on you than IRS audit. Not to mention the job he does coaching. Riverdale- This is the unknown. With all the new faces who knows what they will do. I do know this, they have accomplished very little with the level of talent they have had the last few years. Burks needs to prove he can take a team and overacheive or just reach their potential. Blackman- Another unknown. They have a great athlete in Sneed inside but The other players around him are young but athletic. They have an excellent sophomore group. I think Turnham is a good coach who may have found the job for him. White County- They will be better than they have been because of the talent being better. They have some excellent young talent, especially in the sophmore class. If Gribble is eligible, then they have a scorer and a legit player. Coaching will be very important however Mitchell wasn't real impressive at Pickett County with the talent he had in those years. Warren County- Should be improved, will have size, with some shooters. However, athletically will struggle and will lack quickness. Coaching must improve for the team to improve. Turner is a good guy who may need to tighten the reins a little. This is not a prediction of the finish in 7-AAA but just some analysisof the teams and the coaches. Any other opinions or things maybe that I missed please respond. thumb
  10. Who does white county have? Can their new coach match wits with Cookeville's Odom, Oakland's Grindstaff, Riverdale's Burt, or Siegal's Bush?
  11. Let me start this by saying that no Bruce has not been, to quote warriormom,"runoff" from his last 3 jobs. She/he has an ax to grind for some reason. Probably because his/her little boy didn't play as much as she/he wanted them to so it is easy to get on here behind an assumed name (like I'm doing) and make an attack on someone's character. You make it sound like Slatten is running for office. Slatten didn't run the program in the ground at White County he had plenty of help from people in the community and the school who started griping about him as soon as he got the job, just because people wanted somone else. He works harder than any coach that I know and he showed tremendous dedication to the program. The fact is you had the WORST talent ( by far), in 7-AAA for the last 3 years. Name me one player besides your post and (oh yeah your all-state son) that could have played for any of the other teams in the district, and when those guys quit right after Slatten got the job they weren't that much better if any than the players who stayed. Remember there is a reason that your former coach quit, he saw what was coming and got out of dodge. Slatten made you much more competitive than what you should have been because he can flat coach the game. However this is not a white county thread and I am going to stop talking about the past and so should warriormom she should have better things to do than re-hash this. Good luck to both Culleoka and to white county. thumb
  12. What is the outlook for the Warriorette program this year , with the new coach how will they be? Who are they scrimmaging, etc?
  13. What has happened to Earnest Williams of Crockett County? The last time I saw anything on him, he had signed with Memphis but he was not listed on their roster this fall. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  14. What has happened to Earnest Williams of Crockett Count? The last time I saw anything on him, he had signed with Memphis but he was not listed on their roster this fall. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Fullcourt, Slatten is a great X's and O's coach. He also is very intense. He did not have the support of the community when he came in. The people seemed to blame him for simply applying for the job and then getting it. How would this make anyone feel , much less someone who grew up in the county. It would have been very hard, almost impossible for them to get behind anyone else but a Whited guy. The administration at WCHS are to blame because they never stood behind Bruce from day one. As for the discipline, that has always been what he has been about, but Slatten was overruled on some of those because a parent would call and complain to the powers that be. This is Fact! The parents didn't like Bruce because from what I saw he tried to coach them hard and get blood out of a turnip so to speak. With all this being said I appreciate the fact that Coach Slatten came here because he wanted his family to be here. We usually don't have people who move back here because they want to. He worked very hard to keep our team competetive when the talent was way down. They were small, slow, and unathletic compared to the schools that are in the district. Who is to blame for that? Anyway, hopefully everyone will get behind the team, for the kids sake, and good luck to Coach Slatten and his family.
  16. Give some info on the position. Are they possibly going to hire out side the system? What are the people in charge like (AD, Principal, Etc.) to work for ? Better yet what is the talent level going to be like in the next few years? Just curious to find out the facts.
  17. I will agree with the previous poster on that great Perry County team in 1997. They had size, speed, quickness, and played great team basketball. Their star: Kirk Haston was a pleasure to watch but they also had great role players and were the best team at the 1997 tournament in all classes They were 37-0, played a tough schedule and were bbvery well coached by Bruce Slatten.
  18. What does the future look like for Greenfield? How many starters do they lose? Who will be the permanent head coach?
  19. 4 trips to the state . 2 trips to the finals. 1997 37-0 , last undefeated team in the state, the only one in PCHS history. Besides 8 district games each played all 2-A and 3-A schedule for the 5 years he was coach. Only 1 trip to the dance since. Come on back!
