  1. Brandy Robinson will not be able to play next season as he will be too old. I wish him the best and hope that he will still receive a basketball or football scholarship somewhere!
  2. I wasn't trying to imply that he stopped Thad, but he did slow him down alot. This is very good considering that Willie was giving up about 5 inches...at least!
  3. Willie only hit 6 three pointers in the District Championship. Willie can guard anyone in the state. He did a pretty awesome job guarding Thad Young(Mr. Basketball) in the preseason!
  4. Chism is the ONLY person that I can ever remember transferring to Bolivar to play ball! At least the only one that was actually talented, so please stop all of these stupid accusations.
  5. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! Someone that actually realizes that DOC takes away attention from the most important thing, HIS PLAYERS. Maybe he doesn't have many big time athletes because he HOLDS THEM BACK. Sure, I believe in TEAM BALL. A good or GREAT coach, as many of you think DOC is, can bring out the great individual talent of a player and incorporate it into team play. Johnny Lee is a very good player, but doesn't get the credit he deserves. Sure, MLK was a little undersized when they played Bolivar, but athleticism between the two teams was very even. If you could not see that, then you did not watch the game very closely on Friday. Doc's style, or better put, his egocentrism, didn't help his team against Bolivar, it hurt it!
  6. Gerry Bertier, you said he does LESS with MORE! It sounds like you are putting him down rather than saying how great of a coach he is! Why is all this focus on THE DOCTOR anyway. He has great athletes that can really play ball. They could compete without playing this ridiculous style of ball. They possibly would have even beaten Bolivar in a normal style ballgame. If Doc would turn Johnny Lee loose then he would be recognized as one of the best pgs in the state. I know a bunch of you will get on here and bash me and say that its not about the individual player. Well it sure is about the individual coach when it comes to DOC!
  7. First of all, Haywood is not my boys. If I had to coach like Shelton, I would not want to be a coach anyway. Furthermore, if I went to MLK, I would rather pay money to go watch a chess match or curling or water polo than to go watch that boring brand of basketball. I agree that it can be effective, but it is cowardly. It is like saying we have no other chance but to hold it and hope that they are off. When did you switch your loyalties from Giles to MLK anyways? I guess you're hoping you can live vicariously through DOC and the ROYALS. I hate to tell u that u won't get a gold ball with them this year either. Even if they beat Bolivar, they will not beat Raleigh-Egypt. They may wish they were in EGYPT. Anywhere, but the Murphy Center.
  8. Bertier, do you not agree with me that MLK gave Haywood alot of wide open looks. If you check the stats for the season, you would notice that Liggins probably shot around 40% from the threes this season. I'm really not trying to take away anything from MLK. I think that they are very good. I also think that they could compete against teams if they played a normal game of basketball, too. They are not inferior athletes by any means. And how would you know if Johnny Lee is playing well or not in that slow down style of basketball. Johnny Lee would easily be one of the best PGs in the state in any other system, but sadly, he will probably never reach his full potential and draw the attention that he deserves playing for the mad DOC!
  9. I hate to tell u, but I don't subscribe to the theory that MLK played GREAT DEFENSE today. I've seen Haywood too many times this year. They just flat out could not shoot today. I mean they could not throw it in the ocean. MLK gave them many wide open shots all day. Haywood is a much better team than what they showed today. Don't get me wrong, MLK is a very good team, and they are great at what they do, but I don't think that they could ever play Haywood again and Haywood shoot that bad! I don't think that MLK should be called MLK. They should be called The Doc Shelton Experience. He is the only thing that is not boring to watch during an MLK game. I'm glad that most other coaches realize that the game is about the players and the school, not themselves.
  10. I bet those sour grapes would make an awful tasting wine!!! I saw the Westview/Walker Valley game. Believe me, Walker Valley was the better team... at least that day they were. You should just feel good that your team beat the STATE CHAMPIONS three times. Bolivar's girls beat Chester County two out of four times this year, but no one is complaining here!
  11. If the game is called evenly, I'll take Ridgeway by about 15 to 20 points! Pierre is not only a monster in the post, but he is also a valid three point threat. They also have two or three other guys that can fill it up. Plus, they know how to ball!
  12. Went there two years ago and if U plan on getting a ticket when u get there then u better leave alot earlier than that. The line was literally a mile long at about 5:00 or 5:15 two years ago. It was really that long. Do not pass this trip up, though, it is one of the best high school basketball environments that I have ever seen!
  13. Bolivar vs Chester County tonight at 7pm at lexington high school
  14. I've seen Devendorf play on a couple of occasions this year. He is more hype than true talent. I think that happens a lot. These teams are based more on hype than actual talent. There is no way that the selection committees for these types of teams are able to watch these guys enough to distinguish who is better. This is especially true when you get down to the last picks on the teams and everybody is really close talent wise. If it comes down to a decision between two players, then the one with more hype will usually be the last one standing.
  15. JW, Who did the Humboldt coach kick off the team during the Bolivar game and why? Also, was that the same guy that almost got into a fight right after the game near the players going to the lockerroom? And what was that all about anyway?
  16. I sincerely wish that the Mr. Basketball awards would be done away with. No Joke! It is very similar to the Heisman trophy which, in my opinion, is meaningless. I'm sure that many players that deserve to win the trophy have won it in the past, but I'm also sure that the reverse is true. It is just a bunch of hype most years and the player with the most hype usually wins, whether or not he is the best. Too much emphasis is put on this award and there are too many voters that have never seen some of the finalists actually play.
  17. Who won the first meeting between these two teams and what were the stats?
  18. I'm interested to know who all is recruiting her because she is one of the most athletic girls I've seen in a long time. What school is she leaning to right now?
  19. McNairy won the game by 14 points and the rally was shooting free throws also but our district is very good and anybody can win any night.
  20. Everyone is saying that they wouldn't call these rankings a farce, but then they are contradicting themselves when they say that more people are voting from middle and east than are voting in west Tenn and that they are more likely to vote for the local teams. So, what is the point here?
  21. Before you crank that motor on your mouth and get on here typing away, please get your facts straight. Bolivar is 13-3. Chester County is 10-4. McNairy is 16-2. McNairy is a good team and I won't take anything away from them. They did, in fact, have to rally from a 10-15 pt. deficit to beat Bolivar. It will not be the same the next game, though! Bolivar is a talented group of girls that is getting that winning mentality and learning how to close teams out. Bolivar has also beaten a strong Humboldt team that beat McNairy. Bolivar's other two losses came to number one in AA, Obion and top ten ranked Dresden. They led Obion the entire game only to lose by two at the end. The Dresden game was only a three point game. All that said, the only rankings that really matter are when it is all said and done after the state tourney. So, we will just sit back and watch and see how it all pans out in the end.
  22. I agree with you Galilee, these rankings are a joke. Ridgeway could beat any of the teams in the AAA top ten. Bolivar beat Raleigh-Egypt on their home floor yet the Pharoahs are #1 and Bolivar is #2 in AA. Its all politics! And Mitchell should be at least #3 if not #2 above R-E. The only rankings that really matter is at the end when its all said and done.
  23. they play tuesday, january 11 at 6:30 pm
  24. Nekita Dickerson from Bolivar Central, she doesn't score like Johnson or Taylor but her defense is great, she hustles after every ball.
