  1. Happy Valley wins!!! The score was 2 -0. Alicia Dick pitched a gem. Erwin was off balance all day. She also knocked in the two runs. The girls also played solid defense.
  2. I believe you guys missed the call on the fly ball and the double tag up. The caught fly ball is out two. When the runner at second left too early, he was forced to return to second base before advancing. Therefore, his out was a forced third out on which no score can be made.
  3. Brutus 1. A small school has to support itself. No one complained when Coach Hicks' girls went to M'boro to see Unaka show the world "Creekball". It can also show the girls what it takes to be a champion! As a teacher, you have to know that you cannot allow students that you are responsible for to go somewhere unsupervised. Also, fund raising is a necessity with girl sports. Last of all on #1, these activities can build something greater than what one hour of practice will - team chemistry, unity. 2. What do you wantfrom Coach K? I understand that she checks on her athletes more than any coach at Happy Valley and is willing to help in any way. I have also heard that JHawk was unwilling to accept what was given her. I guess you have to blame the coaches Verran as well. They did everything they could to help Hawk and she would not go to school. She was a very good athlete but sometimes school and athletics take a back seat in the lives of these kids. Again, you are a teacher. You should know that. 3. We are just talking philosophy now. I bet if you ask Joe Torre to trade an out for a run, he takes it the run. Late in the game, it comes down to a coaches gut. He or she has to make the call. 4. No one can challenge Goulds' toughness. But sometimes you have to push them farther than they think they can go. You know that the rotation of a softball pitchers arm is not ordinarily damaging, only tiring. Also that was three years ago. K is a little smarter now. 5. When you coached at HV, were you in your early years? Give me a break. To the best of my knowledge, you were a few years past that. Perfect. No Does this clear things up a bit??? If you really care about this team get off the backs of their coaches. You are cutting their legs out from under them. You didn't like it when C.Y. did it to you. Don't do it from across the fence to Coach K. Your appearance at the Milligan signing was enough to hurt feelings and disrupt the team. It did not go over well at all! You have had your turn and you were successful. Now, step aside and cheer for them ...... quietly. Keep your eye on the ball. Can Happy Valley make it to state? Yes, if they are allowed to focus on the game with everybody listening to the leader - Coach Killen. I am asking you politely to let them go.
  4. Brutus - A few questions. 1. When do they not practice? 2. Who is not eligible? 3. When is small ball a really bad thing? 4. Who is K overthrowing? 5. Who is perfect at the beginning of their coaching career. Remember that Killen and Godsey have limited experience and have only coached at HV and only a short while there. Give them time, get off their backs, and they will work togethter to have quality basketball and softball programs. They have had some success. Granted the talent pool is deep, but you didn't complain when you had the talent in your stable. Truthfully, neither you nor K should be too busy patting your own backs too hard. A lot of the credit goes to Pam and Bill Dick. They did a great job with many of these girls when you and K were elsewhere. Regardless, the team will be tough. It's just March. State is way down the road and one of about three or four teams from our district could make waves come May.
  5. Why is it when our rival loses, we ridicule them? Is it because it is easier to tear someone down than it is to build ourselves up? Show some class notact007. Unaka got it handed to them tonight. So what. They were able to be somewhere and do something most of us can only dream about. I have my own team during the season but I also pull for my neighbors when I'm not playing them. As a resident of Carter County, I am proud of what the Rangers have accomplished during the regular season and the post season. I also look forward to the battles on the court next season. Unaka - hats off to you. You ARE champions. Best of luck on the diamond.
  6. 55-52 rangers 3 seconds remaining
  7. CLASSLESS!!! TWO VERY GOOD TEAMS PLAYED A GREAT GAME AND THEN SOME MORON HAS TO SHOW WHAT A DITZ THEY ARE. OH, BY THE WAY, WHAT WAS THE PRICE OF THE TICKET TO GET IN?
  8. Well Ron, I saw OSHS play tonight for the first time. They are the real deal. They had two players that REALLY impressed. They have a good coaching staff and a devoted, loud cheering section. They are the full package! Other than an excesive number of turnovers, Elizabethton played a hard-nosed, quality game( possibly their season best ) but they were beaten by an excellent team. If Hall plays as well in the 'boro as she did in Elizabethton, OS will make some noise. Good Luck.
  9. HVHS did not play as well as they can tonight. They have the potential to be a very good team. That was shown when they beat a good Elizabethton team @ Treadway. They seem to lack basketball savvy. As far as athletes, they are in good shape. Obviously, they will not win this tournament, but the region starts Monday and they can still make some noise if they play with the same defensive tenacity as they did during the 4th quarter tonight. I believed at the beginning and I still believe Betsy is the team to beat. Val will be the key. Rikki will get hers simply on hard work. The rest will be the role players that they have been all year. Val is,in my opinion, the best athlete in the conference. If she shows with the A game on, Betsy will not lose. The injury to Weaver will not hurt the Betsy cause either. I hope her injury is not significant - for her as well as her team. She has a bright future. I would hate for UCHS to have an excuse when they fall. They are loaded with talent in their lineup. But, they are also top heavy with arrogance and poor sportsmanship. When you have the guns they have, you should just walk on the court, get it done, and go home with a victory. Instead... well everybody knows what follows. Good luck to all the chicks from Carter County. We will be rootin' fer ya'.
