  1. Thanks GCPioneer, that was #42 Daria Hester. She is a junior, not only does she have basketball talent, she also has a 4.5 GPA with high ACT scores. Your press was consistiant, but I think the crowd was our biggest problem in the early going. Although most of our girls traveled to Jackson North Side two years ago and hosted Martin Westview and played in the state last year, they have never played infront of a packed hostile crowd before. Our youth where exposed. Instead of implementing what we worked on we tried to dribble through the press to much early. When you are not getting a lot of reaching fouls the ball will get knocked out. I think #22 Jaquita Burt played well in the game after she got her composure and scored our 1st 7 points and finished with 117 but everytime we had a run GC would answer with great shooting. Our lil freshman #21 was nervous coming out but in the 2nd quarter score 8 points to try and keep us close but GC finished every quarter with a perfect set to score. You guys came in with an excellent plan and got the job done. For those who are going to play GC in the state, believe the hype #11 can shoot the ball, that you lady does not miss when she is open. You can tell all of GC you ladies spend time in the gym working on their shot. Good luck in the state, BTW tried to repeat but fell to a good Gibson County team that desreves to be there.

  3. The Lady Warriors season ended tonight to a good Gibson County team. Most people did not think you would make it back to your 3rd AA Sectional in a row because of the talent you lost to graduation. Starting four juniors and a freshman, you manage a 26 win season league, district, and city championship and a regional runner-up. We thought our season would end with a gold ball and a championship but hay! We tried to get back to the State but fell short. Tonight, our youth was exposed to as we entered a hostile crowd in Gibson County. Gibson County came out with a good game plan and rattled us early. Before we knew it we where 11 points down. Jaquita Burt scored the teams only 7 points in the first quarter. We gather our compusure and finally found our stride, but if Gibson County missed 10 shots the entire night I will be suprised. They shot the ball excellent. I thought the refs made some very strange calls tonight but I WILL NOT TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM GIBSON COUNTY THEY WHERE THE BETTER TEAM TONIGHT. We got out of the box to slow to be on the road to a great shooting team. Thanks for the hospitality your home crowd played their role. So to my young ladies I am proud of you and the season you had. We will work hard over the summer and go back at it next year. To our only two senior we will miss you. To the rest of AA BTW will be back next year.
  4. Thanks Indian Chief, I like to see good basketball even when it is being played against me. There will be enough mistakes in the game because kids are playing. The best team should win without any outside influences so let it be on Saturday also. Also congradulations to all team that have made it this far, there have been some upsets throughout the state. So be proud that your team is still playing. If they are still playing then they still have a chance to win the State Championship. Cheer for your team and may the best team win..
  5. I agree it was a good game. I think BTW would have pulled it off if the cheerleader would not have got hurt and killed BTW groove. We have just stormed back from 7 points down and get some good steals and offensive rebounds when the broke her leg doing jumps. that delay allowed Mitchell to gather themselves. That travel was also a heartbreaker. We had two good looks at the three but could not get it to fall. I thought Lil Pat was fouled but hay. I tell you what I hate to go to Dyer County those folks love their team and its going to LOUD AND ORANGE. I think it is going to be a good game and Folks don't be surprise if BTW pulls it off. Lets just let the kids play and let the chips lay where they may.
  6. As adults watching kids play a game, we should demand fair play regardless of who we are cheering for. Often times I sit as a coach and fan and watch adults dictate games either as refs or coaches. As a parent I only ask my child to do his best and sometimes there may be someone who is better than you or having a better day than you are. That is why we play the game for the best team with the best game plan to win. I am concerned that adults are wrongfully influencing the outcomes of games and not letting the play on the floor determine the winner. Reading through a lot of these post people are really upset with what they think is bad refs and coaching. As a coach one of my biggest fears is going into a game playing against a stacked deck. Regardless if you are for my team or not these are still kids and they deserve a fair chance to win. I think going into the Sectional games on Saturday and Monday some people will not give kids a fair chance to win or loose the games because of the concern of match ups and money making power in the state. Therefore, I am asking those in control to please allow the PLAYERS TO determine who make it to the state not refs and others. Besides if your team is that good, they should not need any help anyway!!
  7. Yea, BTW made a bonehead play late in the game. With less than 20 seconds left in the game and down by 1, BTW got a defensive rebound and call a good timeout to set up their last second shot. The only problem is was THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY MORE TIME OUTS! Giving Carver the ball back and two shots. The Cobras made both free throws and got fouled on the inbound play. Lil Pat came down and hit another three to pull the Warriors within 1 but time ran out. For those of who whom don't know BTW vs Carver is like Memphis vs Tennessee the energy is always HIGH. It is one of those games where you want to win the District Championship and as a Warrior, YOU NEVER WANT TO LOOSE TO CARVER but this win was really not bad for BTW. It puts you up against Oakhaven in the first round with a potential matchup against Sheffield in the semis in stead of a must win with Mitchell in a must win Semis. Not taking anything away from Sheffield or Oakhaven, but that is an easier road to the Sectionals then Hillcrest then Mitchell, especially playing Mitchell at Mitchell. So congrats to G.W. Carver you won tonight when it counted!!
  8. You never beat BTW by 20, not even in our worse year when Jerry broke his leg, Tim transferred to ECS and Spencer was inelgible! Again I am glad that Manassas is finally getting some success. Thanks to Westside closing you got some players. You got a new school with only 350 students. You should have been shut down. The reason why BTW did not play Manassas is because we are tired of everytime we play Manassas at Manassas there is druma. They have shot at our bus, burst out all of our bus windows ext. So what makes these team good teams becasue Manassas played them. Again I am glad you are having some success I hope yall make it to STATE we will cheer for you. Maybe we can play next year and see why.
  9. Hats off to Mitchell, they won the game. If you where at the game you would have saw BTW missing freethows down the stretch. Yall got what you wanted to see, BTW went down. For those Manassas followers, this is the first time in 30 years yall have had a team worth talking about in the same sentence with BTW other then T-Head's record night. Yall bought all those players from Westside and trying to make a run to the state. Good Luck, We will support you. We don't hate we hope the best for you. Again congrats to Mitchell, they have scouted BTW enough to play well against us. They are a good team. It will be a good game in the Regionals which is the most important game. We played sloppy in the 4th but we needed that eye opener. BTW and Mitchell will be in the State. By the way, BTW is like the Tigers, everyone play their best game against us and for you to say we have not played anybody is disrespecting the talent in Memphis.
  10. BTW is the only undefeated team on this list how can they not be #1. I understand we are just a small south memphis team but you really need to ask someone who has came out and seen this team. They are loaded, it is not the teams they are playing are bad, the Warriors are that good. Ask the #1 ranked Memphis Tigers who where in the building tonight when the Warriors destroyed Treadwell.
  11. The facts are there are a limited amount of girls who actually play basketball and those with good talent are limited even more. In a city like Memphis with over 40 options the talent is spead all over the city. My point is all the young ladies in your towns have one maybe two schools to go to. You came into one of the very few Blogs about Memphis talking about how our teams cannot compete your 13AA, but over the last two years, Memphis Teams have represented this section in the state in AA. Last year BTW defeated Westview to go to the state and the year prior Hillcrest defeated I think OC or Westview. The other team out of that region was Jackson Northside which is not in 13AA. Your district has talent and has good teams let it stay at that. We will see you in the sectionals and let the best teams win.
  12. For the record, BTW played Westview last year in the most important game of the season. The sectionals.!If you where they you know the results and really it was not even close. There where three Memphis teams in the State last season and 1 was in AA and they where the Regional Champions. As I recall the year before that Hillcrest spanked that butt when they traveled to Memphis as well. There is good basketball in 13AA, but please don't think for a second that ball is not being played in Memphis. There are over 40 high school in Memphis, unlike little places like Westview and O.B where all the talent is in one place.
  13. Booker T. Wahington Memphis did not play a game against Dyer County on Nov 17 yet it is showing on the schedule. How do I get this game off our schedule? Who did Dyer County play on that day? I wish they would make the correction.
  14. Who has the top talent and team in the Metro Memphis area? Last year Memphis had several teams making to the trip to the Boro, does any of those teams have a chance to make it back and fight for the gold ball? If not who will? In single A Manassas hopes to have a break out season. AA has the likes of Mitchell and BTW, who made the trip last season and you can not forget about Hillcrest and LSU signee Crystal Riley or Oakhaven and Louisville signee Mary Jackson. THe AAA teams in Memphis should be loaded. Leading the way is AAA state runner up Northside and Ole Miss signee Latasha Laws. Also making the trip last season was East and Candice Clear. Then there is Ridgeway, Millington, Central, Bartlett, White Station and Melrose just to name a few. It should be a good year in Memphis, especially when the colleges are starting to see the talent that Memphis kids have to offer.
  15. I hate to be misquoted. Then I did say I was asking what type of school Liberty was. I also said congradulations to the team for being well coached and working hard. Regardless where the kids come from, they still have to be able to play well and produce. I am a teacher and fan of the game first before I am a coach, therefore, I will never down the kids. They are that good!! I was asking if Liberty had the ability to get players from across the COUNTY, JACKSON,TN. Yes Memphis kids do have the option to choose any high school they would like coming out of 8th grade, but they have to apply for transfers if that school is not their assigned school.
  16. I think Liberty is a good team and the coaches did an excellent job of preparing their team. HOWEVER, if the school is allowed to pull kids from across the county THEY SHOULD BE GOOD. I see that most are comparing this team to some of the Memphis teams and talking about how they "handled" Mitchell in the championship. Memphis has over 40 high schools in the city and the talent is sped out. Can you imagine what will happen if some of these teams had the advantage of Liberty to get the students they want. At BTW, 99% of our kids WALK to school, they are attending the school inwhich they are assigned and we still compete in all sports. Please don't think I am taking anything away from Liberty just wondering about the rules.
  17. What type of school is Liberty? Are they public school, charter, prep, or tuition based?
  18. Can someone please define to me what type of school is Liberty Tech? Are they a public school open to everyone, or are they a charter school, prep school or tuition based school? I see they are an excellent basketball team.
  19. Rebounds Livingston 36 BT Washington 23 If someone asks how LA beat BTW, you let them know about the rebounds. 17 of LA's rebounds where offensive. I will take my hat off to Livingston for taking advantage of BTW's inexperience in the Boro and how the games are officiated. The game was even closer that the 9 point victory. Livingston made 14 out of the 19 free throws they took in the second half. I don't want to sound like a sore loser, but some things are very obvious and some integrity should come into play with adults. I think LA got some call because of the rep. However that does not take anything from LA, their girls took advantage of the opportunity and made their free throws down the stretch. The doubled down on #20 Valencia Tucker and got away with as much as the ref allowed and I applauded them for that. I think LA will make it to the AA finals they are a well coached team. GOOD LUCK Livingston and maybe we will meet again next year.
  20. Although you did not complete your quest for the Gold Ball, you did make it to the Big Dance and had a 30 win season. We made it to the big dance by playing basketball the right way by working hard and developing as a team. The Lady Warriors will return a great team, but are loosing some special ball players. Tiesha Hughes, in her first year at BTW after transferring from LA, was a great asset to the team. The dio of Latriece Bayman and Valencia Tucker will be missed. Tucker finished her BTW career only 38 points shy of 2000. Each of the three seniors at BTW are still unsigned at this point with several offers. Stay tuned for our team website for future announcements and information about the Lady Warriors. http://www.eteamz.com/btw. GREAT SEASON!!! Now its time to get your game right for next season.
  21. Congratulations to the Lady Tigers. It was a tough game and both teams made a lot of mistakes, we are happy to win the game and even our series to 1 and 1. Hopefully, we can have a tie breaker in the State Championship. I see that most people on this site don't believe that Memphis teams will make it to the "Boro" but the LADY WARRIORS WILL BE PULLING FOR THE LADY TIGERS ON THEIR TRIP TO JACKSON NORTH SIDE. I BELIEVE IN THE MEMPHIS PROGRAMS.
  22. Semi's are being player at BTW. Mitchell and Treadwell will play at 6:00 and BTW/Sheffield will play after.
  23. Congrats to Mitchell, for some reason, people don't think girls play basketball in Memphis. Yes, Mitchell did beat us in the City and they did it by playing great ball with a great game plan. We did not play very well and are really working hard to face them in the Regional Championship. We, I mean BTW. However, we do have to get past some good teams with some great individuals before that can happen. Although I am a coach at BTW, I am a supporter of Memphis basketball and trying to do my part to show people that Memphis young ladies are ball players. The only way to do that is for use to have good showing in the state. Last year three out of the four Memphis teams made it the state, with Hillcrest winning. It is my hope that we defeat Mitchell in the Regional Finals, then we both make it to state and play in the championship for the tie breaker. Now I think that will put Memphis girl's basketball on the map. For some reason, the people on this site don't respect Memphis teams, neither boys or girls, why is that?
