  1. from what I saw in Troy on Friday night- this Covington vs. Milan matchup should be a 'Slobber Knocker"! The Chargers have multiple backs that run out of the wing T and the guys up front block well in their assignments and Dunn is the type of QB that is not flashy but he doesn't make mistakes to hurt his team. He Ran the offense well and threw 2 TD passes to boot. Milan's Run Defense will be much better than Obion Central's so this game could be played in the 20's and perhaps 24 points or so may be enough to win the game. Should be an excellent contest between the two best teams in the district.
  2. A Lot of things were exposed tonight in Troy as a very quick, talented Covington Charger team hung 50 points on an Obion Central squad that came in only allowing 12 points per game. The big question concerning OC coming into this season is how well they can defend the run. The Rebel defense allowed over 500 rushing yards as well as 2 big passing plays for Touchdowns to the Chargers. 22-7 OC led late 2nd qtr. and the Rebels at that point made adjustments and looked to be containing Covington. Dunn's TD pass before halftime to cut it to 22-14 and the Covington rushing TD to start the 3rd qtr. tied things back up at 22. At one point, Covington outscored OC 36-7 for a 43-29 lead in the 4th qtr. Phipps made some great throws for OC in the 2nd half and a few of those passes should've been caught. Tanner Cary had a big night receiving the football and L.D. Fair Carried the team on his back at one point in the 2nd half and played well on special teams(speaking of special teams- Fair had an excellent punt at one point to pin Covington back at the one and also had to make a couple of tackles when he kicked off to stop Covington from even larger gains on kick returns) What gets lost in the overall picture is Covington's Pass rush that created problems for the Rebels late in the contest and very athletic defensive pass coverage vs. a very good Rebel receiving core. In the end it was way too much ground game from Covington and Central's inability to stop the run that led to the Charger victory. Coming into the contest the combined record of Obion Central's previous 7 opponents was 18-33, Covington's previous 7 opponents combined record was 16-34. This was definately by far and away the best opponent the Rebels have played this year and should be a measuring stick on what OC HAS to do if they want to make a deep run in the playoffs. The season is not over- two games remain at Haywood and at home vs. a very good Dyersburg team on a Thursday(Oct.27th). Doesn't get easier for Covington as they travel to Milan next week for a date with the Dawgs- from what I saw Friday night- that should be a good game.
  3. OCCHS will have all their offensive weapons in place and still not for sure if the head coach will be on the sidelines or not. Hoping he responds well to the medication and can get back to the team sooner than later. For all the Covington followers on here- I understand some of your main offensive guys are out with injuries. So just curious as to who has been picking up the slack at RB and who are some of your main WR and the QB I'm to assume is the same?? OC has the spread set offense but have actually had more running plays this year than passing. This contest should come down to the OC run defense and the Covington adjustments to stopping the Rebs big play arsenal. Should be a fun Friday night in Troy.. Getcha Popcorn ready!!
  4. Milan will win by as many as they want.. Recognize!
  5. This game seems interesting-- So.Gibson has some athletes and can have success running the ball vs.OC- They had a week off last week and were probably at the OC/Montgomery Central game and watched Coach Bragg's squad with a great game plan starting out vs.the Rebels. In the 1st half- they ran 41 plays compared to OC's 17. The knew they had to sustain some drives and Keep the High Octane Reb Attack off the field.. Halftime adjustments were made and "Death Row" came to play in the 2nd half-- OC recovered an onside kick- Big Played the Indians with 3 TD's in less than 4 minutes and put the game away Despite the fact they gave up the most yards to an opponent this season(over 300) the Rebels still made the most of the plays they had in the 2nd half and ran away with this one(actually not as close as the final score would indicate) Yes! the Rebs are legit- AVG. almost 400 yards a game and a nice balanced attack - 242 passing yards and 156 rushing yards per game. 35 total TD's. They've allowed 10 TD's to this point in the season and only 12 points/game. Once again the Hornents will try to use their big Playmakers (Walden's and Lowery) and keep the Rebs offense on the sidelines-- OC's DEfense must make plays and get off the field and not allow the 5 to 6 minute- 14 to 15 play drives to go on. Run defense again will be tested. If the Rebs can but up the 42 points per game they avg. this one should be in the win column and the best start in school history on a night where 50 years of Rebel football will be observed and homecoming festivities will take place. 3 of the last 4 games at home= Covington will come in next-- GETCHA Popcorn Ready!
  6. BIG BIRD Wrote " What are you guys going to do after Jackson leaves after this year. I'll bet you he's gone before the senior football players graduate in May! " What are you- an agent??
  7. Hopefully some of the OC starters will heal up after such a tough, hard nosed fought game at GC this past Friday night and set their sights on an unknown opponent at Montgomery Central The offense looked fairly sharp vs. An always tough GC defense this past week so hopefully that will carry over into this game on Friday. I'll go out on a limb and say OC 38 to 17 vs. the Indians who will be successful at times running the ball on OC but will not be able to match the big play capabilites of the Rebels
  8. This is all comical! HELLO!! you play to win the game. There are 11 men on each side when they take the field. 11 vs. 11 - GC did a little squib kick to lead off the game-- are the OC folks supposed to get upset because they didn't kick it deep to the 2 speedsters so they could run it back for a TD. Why didn't they to that? After an on side kick or two- the other team should be prepared and have some hands guys up there- if they fail at that- then it's just bad preparation on their part. The OC coach can only control how HIS team plays- he only coaches one team, he can't help if the other team plays poorly Maybe they can pass a rule that says- when one team goes up by 3 touchdowns- they need to put in the 6th grade team so the other team can score and make it even again. HELLO-- YOU PLAY to WIN the GAME!! So some of you folks need to turn that frown upside down!
  9. Milan gonna whoop South gibson like they stole something..
  10. Lexington might have the slight edge here because they have 6 or 7 different guys who can run the football well. pound the rock with fresh legs and keep the Liberty Tech's athletes off the field and that should be a recipe for victory speaking of recipes-- you folks in Lexington tell the guy at the Big Red Radio that I said "Chicken Wings Fool!"
  11. This game really worries me because GC is so big and strong up front with the line and they play the ball control game and they are at home and they are just so ..... ah ... I can't keep this up, I just keep laughing ... Nah, OC should win big, shouldn't be a problem.. Keep everybody healthy and play many subs in the 2nd half. Defense can continue to improve and work on the run defense and be in shut down mode early 5 for 5 in 2011 after Friday night . Keep everybody sharp and injury free as the Rebels head half way across the continent for a game at Montgomery Central next week. (can we not find any games in this area code ) The Hornets invade Troy on Sept.30th as the Rebels celebrate homecoming . Gonna be fun to watch these play down the stretch..
  12. swingjuice wrote: Obion County is 3-0, OK, but you haven't played anyone with a winning record, Union City 1-2 Ripley 1-2, Westview 1-2. Your playing Crockett County next and lets see, whats there record, oh, wait, they're 1-2 also. All of a sudden Obion County's a powerhouse. Thats funny Swingyjuice- what's funny is the intelligence behind your post. For starters- UC/OC was the season opener- Neither team had a record until the game was over- When they played Ripley- they had a winning record- 1-0, 1-1 after the game and the same can be said for Westview who were 1-1 coming into that game. The Rebels play the schedule that is in front of them and HELLO - you play to win the game..! They are 3-0 and host a solid Crockett Co. team this Friday night who have just as many athletes and are well coached. Once again- as stated earlier- if OC doesn't consistently stop the run- they could be in trouble. But all this - it's a fluke they are 3-0 is just a bunch of crap If past opponents say the offense is what wins them games and the defense is lacking well- if that be the case- they should've been scored upon more-- they wouldn't have had 4 INT. already if they weren't that good and the other team would've held on to the ball instead of watching them take it away and sprint 98 yards for a TD.. OH- how did the defense do that.. Aint nothing to it but to do it OCCHS Rebels are just like any team at this point in the season- looking to improve and play their best each week. They haven't mastered anything yet this season- but they have played 3 games and won 3 games --- You betta RECOGNiZE!!
  13. to update Rebel nation on some numbers- the OC comes into Friday Night avg.35 points/game while holding opponents to just 7 points/contest. The Defense has ONLY allowed 3 TD's and 1 FG while holding opponents through 3 games to just 90 yards/game rushing and around 87 yards passing- When you only allow roughly 45 yards or so of total offense per quarter, your defense is playing solid. On the offensive side of the ball, looks good= 367 yards of total offense avg./game with 205 of that through the air and 162 yards/rushing most of which is from LD Fair who is avg. 122 yards/rushing per game and around 6 yards per carry. The Take away/give Away also favors the Rebels through 3 games with a +5 in that category. Just some food for thought. The Rebels Defense will be tested for the 2nd week in a Row as Coach Ward will have the CAVS pound the rock as Josh Johnson ran it for 180 yards and 3 TD's in the win over Haywood last week. OC's run defense has to come to play once again and lock em down to go to 4-0 to the delight of Rebel Nation in Troy on Friday night.
  14. We'll just start our Own DIRTY DOZEN!! in Obion County.. Rebel Field in Troy-- Packed out like the Pit' in 86'! 11 men on the field gettin' down and nasty on the opponents-- and the 12th man -- the Rebel FANS!! NOW - THat's a Dirty DOZEN!!
  15. And he's a Local Kid too from Dyer Co.
  16. Calm down.. What's the problem there lil fella?
  17. Montgomery Central -- a Loooong road trip for the Boys from Troy- will be an interesting matchup for the REbel Train If they get through that one than the South Gibson game has the makings of an interesting game At Troy. SG is 3-0 starting out as well and has some athletes from the Medina area Both Covington and D'burg come to Rebel Field in October and that's where we'll see if the "OC" can be an improved club from the one we've seen the first 3 weeks-- If they play even better than what they are now--- OH LaWD Watch OUT!! The SMacketh may be Layed Down!! IF ya Smeeeelllllll What the REBS aRe cookin'!!
  18. Wow wv scored on offense more then once in a game! The qb manage to throw a td to his own team. It was the fb that manage to give the other team a td. It was nice to see the younger qb is willing to stay in the pocket and throw a nice pass. But the starting qb needs to be more supportive of the young qb. Coady pulls the starter and all he did was set on the side line and pout. WV has got to start playing as a team instead of individuals and start winning. WOW!! Trouble in the ranks of "da View" ?? Hopefully they can put the loss to "the OC" aside and be prepared for a Camden team that we look to similiar under the new coach than the lions did under Ward Because this new guy there was an assistant and probably won't rock the boat too much early on.. They have been a successful program during the Ward ERA and now look to keep on keepin' on at the hands of the Chargers from Martin..
  19. The Westview almost had a 2 to 1 Ratio of running more plays than the Rebels which had to be the game plan coming in. THe Rebels made the most of the big plays they had which turned out to be the difference in the game Both teams had scores off of the other team's turnovers-- But the fact that the Rebel Defense held the grind it out, ground game of Westview in Check is more than likely the reason for success in Martin this past Friday. Now the Rebels have a little swagger after defeating a quality opponent. They'll have to continue to improve, sharpen up a few things and be prepared to take care of business back at Home on Friday vs. the Cavs of Crockett. They are no doubt lickin' their ChOps!
  20. The Rebels have a little swagger about them now that they've beaten a quality opponent. They have to remain hungry and not overlook a Crockett Co. team that defeated them on the OC field a year ago. Rebel field in Troy should be rockin' on Friday night. OC needs to continue to establish the running game early and play solid team defense Crockett is in the 13AA 10 team district, but this will not count as a district game. Regardless of that, the Rebel Train needs to keep things rollin' and continue to improve from week to week.. The Cavs are next-- Getcha POPCORN READY!!
  21. Nice breakdown redbirdfan of what might happen, but answer the question. WHO YOU GOT?????????????? Well Reelfoot72 (nice year by the way from what I hear.. LOL) seeing as this game is being played in early September- I'll give the edge to the Rebels. Westview is struggling a big offensively but the defense remains fairly solid. Westview graduated four guys up front and the 3 yr.starter at QB and will take until October to get their footing on the offensive side of the ball. With that said- they have to keep the game around 20 points or so to have a chance. OCCHS should establish the run early as they've set out to do in the first two games and see what happens. A couple of big plays should come into the equation and 'da View' must win the kicking game and keep turnovers down. OC is a +5 in the giveaway/takeaway category and hopefully will have their leading tackler from a year ago back as the Quinton was knocked out on the games first play last week at Ripley. He's 50-50 and will probably play. THE BIG KEY-- Can OC stop the running game of Westview - or at least contain it enough . I say they'll have success and end up on the plus side of a 27 to 17 score.
  22. Who are some of the leading scorers / rebounders for North Greene?? They were up there last year so I look for this to be one of the more competitive 1st round games.
  23. The TSSAA Girls State tourney begins this Wednesday morning in Class 1A as the Lake County Lady Falcons from upper Northwest Tennessee take on the North Greene Huskies from Northeast Tennessee in opening round action. Being from West Tennessee I know quite a bit about the Lady Falcons having seen them several times this season as they are led by Miss Basketball Finalist T.T.Flowers and another Junior in Carnation Hart. They pressure the ball extremely well, like to play an up tempo style, rebound well and have some good outside shooters. I know very little about the Huskies of North Greene and was hoping someone on here could shed a little light about the Huskies, main players, who to watch for, etc. as they prepare for this opening round game. thanks for the info and looking forward to seeing everybody in the BORO!
  24. If DA VIEW can stay opposite side of bracket and not meet Liberty until Regional Finals then they can take their chances playing a Memphis team with hopes of being BORO bound!
