  1. that's my point, UC girls dominate in West TN area in 1A and won't see a challenge until the state tourney. Hoping UC and Jackson Co. are in opposite brackets so they'll see each other again in the title game. Coe is the real deal. Glad to see her go Major D-1 at Univ.of Kentucky.. A solid women's program they have up there.
  2. If you can make it outta District 14A and the region 7 on the boys side-- the state tourney could be a cakewalk.. Some of the best 1A basketball I've seen in these last few years is in this district. State champs the past 6 or 7 years have included. UC twice, Lake co. and Humboldt.. Look for South Fulton to go deep in post season as well. UC/SF have split and SF just recently defeated the defending state champs Humboldt so look for the Devils Den at SF to be the hot spot for both the District and Regional Tournaments.
  3. UC is just to strong and physical for the other 1A teams in the area. Huntingdon could make it a more competitive regional tourney instead of just going through the motions. Dresden not bad either and if GC had some depth they could make some noise.
  4. Nobody is touching UC girls in 1A around West TN. Won't be challenged until the get to da BORO. As for AA, Dyersburg is head and shoulders above the others in Region 7 . As for the statement GC - the talent level has gone down quite a bit in the last 3 to 4 years. You had a stretch from about 2007 to just a couple of years ago where 13AA had some of the best talent in the state-- state champions and a Miss Basketball. But those days are gone. Hopefully they'll be competitive again at the state level before too long.
  5. Both teams should be ashamed of the play in the second half- it goes both ways though and with both sides involved and that includes the hot headed Dresden assistant coach that ran across the field at half and got in the refs face and got the team penalized to start the second half. I've heard that's not the first time that's happened. You folks may want to address your own issues instead of worrying about what Obion needs to do with a coach- He's just continuing to clean up the Mess that was left to him by Dude when he left and that includes both on the field issues (discipline, fumbles, etc.) and Off the field issues that have plagued the program over the last several years as well. As for the game- OC layed the ball on the ground too much and good teams will take advantage of that and Dresden did , converting the first 3 OC turnovers into Touchdowns. Take nothing away from the Lions, they are a solid team and the Fr. QB is legit. They should go far in post-season and hope they do. the UC/Dresden game in a couple of weeks should be a good matchup. In conclusion as it relates to the game, nobody is the 'victim' and innocent here, both teams did some dirty stuff and should clean up their acts going forward.
  6. WOW! it should be nice with the field turf in. Dude tried to get that at OC- jumbo-tron and the whole nine yards.. Couldn't make it happen and has left for pastures elsewhere. J.C.Sawyer Stadium should be lookin good when the whole project gets completed.
  7. Tough schedule that Dude left behind when he left Obion Central. A new coaching staff with a new philosophy which consists of a new offense that's designed to get back to the fundamentals of blocking and tackling and not the gimmick offense that some run. OCCHS will turn the page and work hard in what will be a very competitive district and playing one of the hardest schedules in the state. As for the remaining teams of 13AA- look for Crockett and Westview to be battling for the top spot with Milan also in the mix. D'burg could make some noise as well.
  8. I thought the Elizabethon team played well in the state tourney- A great group of kids- stayed in the same hotel with their team/cheerleaders as well as the UC team and everyone was very respectful and well behaved and showed everyone how student athletes should be. Hope for the best for your program as you move up in classification.
  9. Thompson is the reason CPA went back to back. What a performance in the title game after scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds in last year's title game. To the Elizabethon folks- thought your team played well- a great group of kids- best of luck next season in AAA.
  10. The Coe girl is the real deal- She carried Jackson Co. today and well deserving of the 1A Miss Basketball. Kentucky will be getting a good player. Congrats to Jackson Co. on the 8th title in school history and also congrats to the ladies of UC for an outstanding season as well.
  11. A little Clarification for you folks on here who were PBS bashing. Know your facts before you post something stupid. Play On Sports is in charge of the Production of the TSSAA basketball games and thus, the feed to the PBS stations. The problem was on Play On Sports end and NOT the PBS stations who were ready, competant and able to carry the feeds. It comes down to Transponder numbers, coordinates, etc. and Play On Sports had brought in a Free Lance person to do those tasks which DID NOT get completed. So- AGAIN, the problem was NOT on the end of the PBS stations who by the way, have not had a problem carrying these games as well as the football Championships for the past several years. The problem was on the folks who provided the feed from the tournament site. Hope this clears up things for ya.
  12. Who are some of the Cloudland players to watch- Points they are avg. / etc.?
  13. Correct- same style-type of team- play good half court defense. A couple will play off da Bench. Don't get to 30 wins by acccident- they can play.
  14. GC!! Rumor has it you said that Bolivar had the best girls team in that Region 7AA Any truth to that?? Covington is probably the most athletic team coming out of West TN along with Dyersburg who they defeated in the Region Semifinals. A level head guard, good wing player that can hit 3's and 2 good post player- one of which is going to UTM we think. Another bruising/type player comes off the bench and , YES, covington gets after you on defense, plays fairly physical which will come in to play in da BORO as the refs tend to let them play. If they are not overwhelmed by the big state in the Murphy Center they should be okay-- Tough draw with Macon co. though who I thought would've been up there last year.
  15. UC is one of those blue collar type of teams that don't have a flashy Miss Basketball type of player but everyone on the teams knows their role and plays it well. They lost leading scorer Amber Fair before the season with a knee injury- they revamped and the team has bought in to the "defense first" mentality that the coaches have been preaching- They hold opponents to around 32 to 35 points per game. Have a couple of kids that can shoot the 3 and create a lot of space opportunities on offense for dribble drives to get to the rim. They have been battle tested and played up when they can- (defeated AA entry Westview twice) also lost to AAA Munford by two at a Thanksgiving classic. They've been there before, know what to expect and will be tough to play in an elimination game. Looking forward to watching the tourney.
  16. Hope to hear the HOG-EYE Chant from LA this week--
  17. Summertown, Jackson co., UC and Clarkrange are the early favorites-- we'll see if they draw each other in the first round-- Hopefully- we'll see all four in the semifinals on Friday
  18. WOW! 2 of the 3 finalists for 2A Miss Basketball will not be playing in the state tourney- Should be an interesting 2A girls bracket. Keep an eye on Covington- very athletic team from West TN- this group has not played on the big stage in da BORO though so we'll see if it affects them.
  19. Looking forward to a good 1A bracket with clarkrange and Jackson co. being two of the top contenders and keep an eye on UC as well-- No standout players but they play well together and have played great team defense since late December which is tough sometimes to get kids to buy into- but they've sold out to play defense even on the nights where they are not playing particularly well on offense and the great defense always gives them a chance to win which they have lately to the tune of 19 victories in a row.
  20. With technology the way it is- it's easy to see she may have got the shot off just a bit late- but in real time and even if you're at the game- it would have been hard to tell. A tough break for McMinn who's Senior class will miss out on a 4th straight trip to da BORO- Last year's Miss Basketball Winner and a finalist this year in Masengill is the real deal and I look forward to seeing her play hoops in West TN next year at UT-Martin. Two Miss Basketball finalists on the same floor and two great teams going toe to toe with a LOT on the line-- Last play aside and we can debate this or that- Cannon Co. will be in the elite 8 and one could make a case on putting them, Livingston and McMinn in different parts of the state and they could get to the Final Four. Just a tough part of the game but it should be a great AA field and I can attest to two quality teams coming from West TN (13AA) in Covington and Westview. Getcha Popcorn Ready
  21. The teams opposite of UCHS have a shot at a sub-state berth. But the Suiterettes are like butta' they on a roll and would like to be challenged by someone around here before they get to da BORO.. Most likely not to happen though.
  22. WOW Nice to see the reunion on here-- It's a small world aint it? I noticed no love is shown for the defending state runner-ups from Obion Co.- I hear the Lady Rebs are in it to win it.! Do the experts on here just overlooking and not giving them much of a chance at Bolivar on Friday??
  23. I doubt that it should be characterized as a War in as much as it will probably the equivalent of two girls fighting over a hair brush on the playground. They match up fairly well and the winner will get to play in the consolation game on Saturday as Covington will dominate whoever comes out on top. Both teams are well coached and the GC coach should have gotten some votes for Coach of the year with what he has done with very limited numbers.
