  1. Bundy...what a suprise. I did predict that he would do well, but man, he sure did turn some eyes. I thought that he looked real good...some technique, but a lot of heart. Congrats to this young man. And to be only a sophmore, very impressive. Who were some others that you all thought turned some eyes? fat man
  2. interesting weight class...like many this year. having watched most of these young men wrestle and looking at some of the back and forth matches, i am going to go ahead and make a prediction: coleman > bundy > ortiz possible match up for finals with bundy and coleman. stirring up some good competition...nothing better. fat man
  3. Empro...I don't know what your point of that message was besides to bash some people in Tennessee wrestling. First to bash the referee, who I don't know who it was, but I am going to guess that he made the call he thought was correct. Secondly, who are you to go on and give credit to Manely for winning the match. Forgive me if I am wrong, but didn't Simpson get his hand raised (hence the state title). And a close match...didn't Simpson go on to pin McCallie's Manley at the beginning of the second period. Correct me please if i am wrong because i hate to post wrong info. Also, i can only imagine that these two wrestled earlier in the year. If these two were close competitors, let me know. If they wrestled, could you please give me those results. Please tell me the point of this message, because it is message posters like you who make this board disgusting for me, a great fan of tennessee wrestling, to read. I don't like any of this non-sense out of want-to-be greats like you. Maybe you are living your dreams through Spencer Manley and think that you can fullfill your dream by playing it off like Manely is one of the greatest ever. Not to take anything away from Spencer, he is a dern tough wrestler, but you sure are putting him up on a thrown. Stop living in the past whoever you are and jump to the present...3 years ahead of where you are living. Could have, would have, should have...sorry Empro...maybe next time. But until then, don't post any trash like this again please for the sake of Tennessee wrestling. yours truly, fat man
  4. First off...Wingit, that is not only a cheap shot at Ronnie Carter and the TSSAA, but also a cheap shot at Simpson. Tell me, cause I would really like to know, how you "know" that this is what the TSSAA did. If you could tell me how you are so certain by giving me some proof, I will not get on here to call you out on this cheap shot. As for Simpson, you are giving him no credit in this situation. With his name, a three time place winner, 4th, 3rd, and a FIRST place (over last years champ who happened to beat Geismer in the finals). Also having the record of 3-1 vs Geismer, 1 being by tech fall if i was told correctly. Obviously he is the best here with results. So I don't want to hear any of this bashing on the TSSAA and inadvertanly simpson. Next, Bob...I think we all need to get over this seeding thing. As mentioned ealier, to be the best you have to beat the best. If you think your kid deserves a better seed, let him wrestle and show everyone. In other words, if you are upset at what you think is a mistake in the rules, just go back to the sport. its wrestling for crying out loud. Let's just wrestle here!!! On the mat you can't tell me that with a front head lock you might not make it extra tight in an effort to break the opponent physically by giving him a little less air to breathe. It is a rule though that you can't choke someone isn't it. Controversial rules is all a part of the sport unfortunately. No need to get all up and tight over some rules here. People have interpreted this rule differently. Again, let's just wrestle. And good luck to all the kids wrestling in the next few weekends. fat man
  5. team upsets... well in DI, I think we have already established Bradley's dominance. i don't smell any upsets boiling in the pot. DII is a different story however. I think that with the names Baylor, McCallie, and Father Ryan, no one really expects an upset past these teams. But...I think that in an individual tournament, especially this one, CBHS and MBA are in a hunt for the gold. Not to say that chances are great, but CBHS has some guys who can put big points on the board (who knows, the 152 match in the finals...that is to say if Marable and Manley both make it...you never know...could possibly determine a place difference between these two teams.) Coach Lewis and his boys will be ready. And the best chance for an upset in my opinion...MBA...Coach Simpson seems to always have a foot in the race at the end. Potentially they may have a good number in the finals, and with many in the finals comes big points. Look for the young MBA wrestlers to put up a fight for a high team placing, not overlooking a championship. These are just some thoughts...I smell something boiling up though. Get ready for a grand fight among the top 5 teams in DII this weekend...man i love this sport....cause its not over... till the fat man sings. fat man
  6. Getting a little off the heated topics of the state tourney (dont get me wrong, there are some great discussions going on), but I just wanted to get a new topic with a few replies. First off, I am a huge wrestling fan, have been my whole life. And I can only get excited about the quality of wrestlers that tennessee is sending out for college. We have not been known as a big wrestling power house across the nation, and are far from it right now, but i think there is definitely some great progress. I love to see our wrestlers head out of high school for greater challenges on the mat. For this year, who do we have that is going somewhere to wrestle. Any big time recruits, cause i haven't heard much as of yet, looks like there is potential though. And now to our present state. I always check up on our old grads of this state to see how they are fairing with the others around the country. If any of you didn't know, right now we have 5-6 guys that are top 20 caliber in the nation. Here is some info: 133 - matt keller (currently ranked 9 by a few poles, beat ASU's Mike Simpson 2x, great chance for AA - making a name for himself as a rs freshman) 141 - pat simpson (not in top 20, but breaking loose - just recently lost a last second match to #12 max meltzer of harvard and #14 donnie defilipis of rutgers), also pinned lehigh's 125 from last year who went to round of 12 at NCAA's) 141 - darren mcknight (back and forth this year, recently coming off a good win over minnesota's jeremy anderson) 157 - phil simpson (nuff said - 3rd last year, currently #5, but look for an NCAA title out of this kid - serious possiblity, i got my money on him) 157 - kevin ward - (back and forth with johnny hendrix who is currently around #5 with simpson) - what are the chances of seeing a match up here with simpson in the future...something to think about 157 - matt mccarty (back and forth year, but putting up some good scraps with the best) 197 - rusty blackmon (currently ranked around 15, beaten iowa's foulass recently, and putting up some really exciting matches - good chance for AA with good tourney) If there is anyone else out there you can think of, let us all know. Bottom line, we need to keep sending these quality kids to wrestle in college...we are starting to step out of the shadows, and its about time. one more thing if you can read this long post...BUY NCAA TICKETS if they are still available to cheer on these kids. Great chance to see a possible national champ from Tennesee, and some All American's. It all starts with the fans...they need the support. your brother in wrestling, fat man
