  1. Monterey can name the score. MJCA is not very good and not very deep.
  2. Hardin County High in Savannah has a great stadium. In fact, they host the NAIA National Championship game there. Press box is outstanding.
  3. Benny teaches Special Ed. and is the ninth grade girls basketball coach. He's coached football, basketball and baseball at Central, Lebanon and Castle Heights before it closed. Also coached the women's team at Cumberland and was an assistant under Woody Hunt in baseball. Dewayne Alexander remains as the head coach of WC football.
  4. They have changed a few things up. Wilson Central will play Macon County at 7 p.m.; Watertown vs. Smith County at 7:45 p.m. and Gordonsville switches to play Trousdale County in the nightcap. The reason for the switch -- Central and Macon County will each dress over 70 players tonight; so the No. Twos and No. Threes can play against each other.
  5. Friday, Aug. 20, the Middle TN Kick-Off Classic is in its second year at Lebanon High. Lebanon, siegel, David Lipscomb and Clarksville NE will play in the varsity periods. Local junior high teams will play the warm-up games. Tickets are $5 per.

    The Hugles

One of them, the oldest I believe was selling cars for one of the big dealerships in Franklin -- right off I-65 about 18 months ago. I was shopping for a small truck and this little guy comes out and introduces himself, we talk and somehow the topic turns to football. Then the name clicks. He was a most pleasant young man. Outstanding back, too.

    NAIA World Series

Cumberland wins 10-3. Donnie Burkhalter is named MVP. Mt. Juliet's Derek Depew Friendship Christian's Josh Underhill and Oakland's Caleb Barrett were named to the all-tournament team. CU finishes the season 59-21. CONGRATULATIONS BULLDOGS!

    NAIA World Series

Cumberland leads Oklahoma City 6-2 in the fourth.
  9. I know this is a high school board, but Cumberland University has so many former players in the Middle TN coaching ranks I thought I'd mention it. The Bulldogs play for the NAIA World Series title tonight (Thursday) at 9 p.m. Central in Idaho. They take on top-seeded Oklahoma City -- a team CU sent to the losers bracket on Monday. Good Luck 'Dogs! Live radio coverage can be heard on WCOR AM-900 (and WANT FM 98.9 after the Sounds game). Cumberland is undefeated, so a OKU win would set up a winner-take-all game Friday at 9 p.m. Former CU guys now serving as head coaches -- Sloane at Lincoln Co., Ford at Wilson Central, Clairday at Grundy County, Purvis at Mt. Juliet, Luttrell at Watertown, Mills at White House . . .
  10. Yes, that's Phil on the far right.
  11. Anything new on Phil's condition?
  12. Is there any way for line scores and / or box scores to be posted. The scores would be nice, but the more info -- the better. WP and LP, records, etc.
  13. By mutual agreement, Friendship Christian was declared the champion of the District 8-A baseball tournament and will host a first round regional game Monday, May 17 at 4 p.m. Rain had postponed Thursday's scheduled tournament finals. FCS was the only team left in the district winner’s bracket, meaning Westmoreland would have to defeat the Commanders twice in order to win the tournament. Westmoreland earned a regional berth with a 3-2 win over Gordonsville Wednesday in the finals of the losers bracket. Friendship Christian reached the finals with an 11-0 victory over Westmoreland Tuesday. FCS scored four times in the second inning and added seven runs in the fourth to put the Eagles away.
  14. Friendship Christian defeated Trousdale County High 12-0 Tuesday in Hartsville. Soph Courtney Carr threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 10 with one walk. Toni Waynick had a three-run HR in the top of the fifth. FCS will play Davidson Academy Wednesday and Mt. Juliet High Thursday.
  15. I went to post this one on the scoreboard, but then I realized it must have been a make-up game. Here's the info. Friendship scored seven runs in the top of the first inning Thursday afternoon and went on to defeat Gordonsville 10-0 in South Carthage. Tina Wynne and Tomi Waynick each belted long three-run homers in the top of the first inning as FCS upped their record to 8-0 in District 8A and 12-7 on the season. Courtney Carr (8-3) got the pitching decision, allowing just one hit in the five inning game, walking three and striking out five. Wynne finished 3-for-3 with a walk while Candace Cross had a pair of hits with a run batted in.
  16. Friendship won 6-2. Courtney Carr was the winning pitcher - striking out four and scattering eight hits. She also hit a two run homer in the top of the sixth. FCS is now 11-7 overall and 7-0 in District 8-A.
  17. I think James Adkins at Wilson Central ranks right up there. He's 6-5 (or taller), a LEFTY and throws HARD. He signed early with UT but might not go if he were to get drafted in the first three rounds. That might sound like a stretch to some, but MLB scouts would draft a left handed gorilla if he could through high 80s. The scouts love his potential. He's got a big frame, might grow another inch or two and could put on 20-pounds or so and not hurt him. Potential is a dangerous word sometimes, but I'd love to see how this guy has developed four or five years from now.
  18. Lebanon spotted Siegel a 4-0 lead, but rallied for a 5-4 win Monday at Baird Park in Lebanon. Senior Deena Brown with two big RBI triples for LHS. 9th grader Meghan Maynard went the distance and got the win for Lebanon.
  19. Blackman third baseman Claressa Johnson ripped a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to lead the Blaze to a 6-0 win at District 7-AAA opponent Lebanon Tuesday night. Johnson's HR broke open a scoreless tie.
  20. Thanks for the help with the all-tournament teams. I knew they had to be in there somewhere.
  21. I have checked the TSSAA site and haven't found a listing of the kids who were named to the 2004 all-state tournament teams. Are those teams listed elsewhere? I checked the DNJ and didn't see them there either.
  22. This goes back a long time, but Johnny Darden at Springfield was the best little guy I ever saw. He could take a game over with his shooting OR passing. I think he wrapped up his playing days at Springfield in 1975 and then went on to UT. He now coaches the Yellow Jackets.
  23. Gary Van Atta from UT-Martin was there.
  24. I, like Jimbo44, would love to know about Clark's AAU plans -- who she plays with and where they will be playing her. I know she can defend ony of the five positions, but I'd like to see how well she could play the 2 or 3 spot.
