  1. Just a side note...This year`s freshman class at UT-Knoxville had an average ACT score of just under a 27. So instead of gettiing a full ride, a 26 is almost necessary just to get accepted. Back to the practice issue though...I`m not picking on Gibson County because I`m sure there are a lot of other schools that have similar block scheduling, but I have a hard time calling these "pick up" games. It`s probably because I`ve always thought of pick up games in terms of being impromptu gatherings of people that show up to play a game of basketball. But in these cases it is a of kids being scheduled to be in the gym at a certain point during the school day. This brings a few questions in my mind. If a coach can`t coach during this period then who is in charge of supervision during this period? Also, if these are just pickup games then what would happen if someone didn`t want to participate in them.? Could they just stay in their regular street clothes and watch since "pick up" games bring along a connotation of being voluntary?
  2. Hey GC...I didn`t make any accusations. I merely said they were practicing. It might not have been a "formal" practice, but playing scheduled pick up games during first block is practice nonetheless. I was just inquiring as to whether official practice had started yet. As to the "gear" they were wearing what I would call official practice jerseys. I never said they were doing anything wrong though. And yes, my company is doing some work out there this week.
  3. Have they stopped trying to buy Tennessee high school players? /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  4. Hey BigG it`s okay to intrigue Coniglio. Just don`t overwhelm. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  5. Okay. It just seemed very odd that they were playing "pickup games" at 9:00 in the morning during school hours in practice gear.
  6. No one knows what undue influence is. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  7. The original poster has had ample time to reply to this thread. I have to believe this was just a crazy accusation being thrown out there. Feel free to step in and start a new thread on the subject but I`m closing this one down. I just don`t think it`s right for someone to throw out an accusation like this and then just disappear. VG
  8. FYI for everyone. I think one Grace Christian thread is enough. I picked this one. VG
  9. Jackson Christian has now gone over to the dark side as well.
  10. I wonder that myself MVM. Topic closed here.
  11. Very good thread. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. Shelby County has some very good teams this year. There are also a few good ones out here in West TN as well such as Madison, USJ, and JCS. I`d have to think that JCS is the best in West TN. They were pretty good last year and return most of the team.
  13. Has basketball practice already started? I was surprised to see Gibson County girls team practicing at 9:00 this morning in their gym. Anyone know?
  14. Henry County has a very good team this year, but man take it easy on that Red Kool-Aid. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
  15. I just want to clarify something here. This is a Memphis/Shelby County poll. West TN is considered to be all land west of the TN river but excluding Shelby County. I`m from Jackson and trust me on this that whenever someone on this end of the state who doesn`t live in Memphis hears the term "West TN" they never think of Memphis. I got on this thread thinking I would see teams like USJ or Madison or JCS. This is no knock on Memphis but we just don`t normally think of Memphis when we say "West TN". The common reaction to a thread like this would be..."Oh, those are Memphis teams." I think it has more to do with media coverage. Here in "West TN" we just don`t get much Memphis coverage if any at all and on the flip side Memphis folks don`t get much coverage on places like Milan, Jackson, Dyersburg, Savannah etc... It`s seriously like two different worlds even though we both exist on the same end of the state.
  16. Just got news that long time West TN Coach Walter Kilzer passed away today. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
  17. Let`s leave the discussion here to the Milan/Camden game, or else it gets shut down. Thanks VG
  18. Let the recruiting begin. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Seriously though, with the false perception around Madison County that the public schools aren`t very good it will be interesting to see how many kids will now try to enroll in private school if they can get financial aid.
  19. Ha...I was gonna ask the same thing. Aside from Coach Thompson`s troubles following rules, I think he is living proof that it`s "coaching over talent" . F-W went from nothing to something once he got there. I hope the new coach can build on that. I have no idea about the Bolivar game, but I`m always curious to see how F-W is doing. What did they do last week?
  20. Word to Dyersburg fans..If you don`t beat Haywood handily then you need to reassess your season. First off I`m gonna disagree with an earlier poster that said JCM is horrible. Considering the fact that JCM is close to becoming a 2A school next year (for sure 3A) and the fact that they had no head coach until after fall practice started. And the fact they had no structured offseason weight program. And the fact that they had no spring practice...I think JCM has done very well so far all things considered. But here`s my point...Haywood was indeed lucky to win their game at the Rock. Two gift fumbled punts at the 10 yard line accounted for Haywoods regulation scoring. The Cougars held Haywood to 111 total yards. I`m not trying to bash the Tomcats. They are a young team this year. But if the D`burg/Haywood score is close then the Trojans shouldn`t be concerned with region championships unless the region has just totally gone South. Coming from someone that holds chains at JCM games and was on the Haywood sidelines I can tell you for a fact the Haywood was exhausted by the 4th quarter of that game. There`s no doubt in my mind that it played a factor in JCM`s two late TD`s to tie the game. Haywood does have a pretty good kicker. They never hesitated to bring him on in their first drive of the game to attempt a 45 yarder. If Dyersburg is any good at all they should win this game easily.
  21. Patsdoc...Did this game cost you some pizza?
  22. SWEET!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> And it`s only fair. It`s what I`ve been aying for a long time. How can you complain about these "so-called" advantages of private schools when there are public schools that can do the exact same thing?
