  1. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/baske...oll/super25.htm Here is the link to USA Today's first poll of the season. Liberty has a shot to play the #7, #9, and the #24 teams in the City of Palms Tournament next week. A chance for TN to get some more respect around the nation. Good luck to Liberty in the tournament, and congrats to Raleigh-Egypt...
  2. Jimmy Adams is a good coach, but I would not say they have a significant edge in the coaching department. Coach Patino is just in his second year with White Station. They rebuilt a little last year, and will be strong this year. I think he is one of the best coaches in the state. They will be contenders every year with him there. Now given the talent on the floor, I still say Raleigh-Egypt takes this one. You will probably see both these teams in March at the Boro.
  3. Yeah, Mawal is going to Georiga Tech. They should be pretty good next year. Maurice Miller from Raleigh-Egypt is also going there. Plus, Thaddeus Young and Javaris Crittenton are 2 of the best freshmen in the country. And their other sophmore guard Clinch is their leading scorer now.
  4. Here is the article in USA Today on the game: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/baske...ross-game_x.htm
  5. I don't know when they start. But, I think when they do start that they should try to find a way to count out of state games somehow. Liberty definitely, no questions asked, is playing the toughest schedule in the state. They are playing several QUALITY out of state teams. In the past, I don't think the rankings have taken any of that into account.
  6. Big Doug, I'm sensing your sarcasm in the last remark. And I am with you on this. The reason I stated Pioneer is not off to a great start, was the loss to DCA. DCA is not exactly a powerhouse, hence we have Ben Stiller declaring that Brentwood Academy will beat Pioneer by 30, with no real clue about them other than that game. I didn't know that they were missing 2 starters, I was guessing something like that though. On the other side of that, it shows they have little depth. It is funny how people will determine the outcome of future games based on past performances. Another example, Ben believes White House should handle Haywood easily because Haywood lost to Covington and they beat Covington in a scrimmage. (Don't tell him that Covington was missing both 6'9" transfers all 6 starters, not to mention their waterboy and statistician for that scrimmage) In the end it will all be proven on the court. Also, you guys from the mid-state, keep thinking Union City is small and therefore you shouldn't worry about them. After all, you guys have some big guys, should be no contest, Union City will just lay down for you.
  7. Pioneer Christian is a big question mark. They have Darnell Wilks, who is 6'8" and has already committed to Cincinatti. Plus, they have a few other guys that are over 6'5" and some decent guards. But, they are young. I know they haven't had a great start this year, but they could surprise somebody. Plus, they are playing a tough schedule. They are also traveling to play Oak Hill, just a few days ahead of Liberty.
  8. For everyone saying that there is no way Liberty will get beat by 25, do you realize that Oak Hill beat Jackson Provine 91-57 in the Hoopfest. That is 34 points, and Jackson Provine was the #1 team in MS last year. <a href="http://www.unapproved website.com/FanPages/StateRankings.mxp/Mississippi/Boys_Varsity_Basketball_Winter_05-06" target="_blank">http://www.unapproved website.com/FanPages/StateRank...ll_Winter_05-06</a> And they returned almost all of their key players. I would say their is a good chance Oak Hill wins by over 20. If Liberty plays their best game of their lives they might keep it close. I watched Oak Hill play Jackson Lanier 2 years ago in the Hoopfest. Jackson Lanier had the best high school basketball player I have watched in person. Monta Ellis, the kid didn't miss. If he had 2 guys on him, he made them look silly, if they put 3 on him, he found an open man. He finished with 49 points and 11 assists, but his team still lost by 10. Oak Hill had too much depth and talent at every position. They are a few notches above everyone else. By the way just 2 years later, Monta Ellis is now averaging about 20 points a game for the Golden State Warriors. He is just going to contiue to improve. If your still not convinced go to Unapproved Website. They have the #1 Junior PG in the nation Jennings who has signed at USC. 2 Senior shooting guards already signed to Michigan and Duke. A 6'7" small forward signed at South Carolina, and a 6'9 Power Forward signed at Florida State. All ranked nationally in their positions. Now Liberty is good, but they only one guy signed already and that is to Murray State. And no individuals ranked nationally in their positions. Think before you guys start saying Liberty could win this one....
  9. That is funny that you all have a 5'4" point guard. That would be interesting to watch him and Anthony Sampson go at it. Anthony is extremely quick and a great passer, just like you are describing the other guy. Defensively the kid is everywhere, he works extremely hard out there on the court.
  10. I wouldn't say Haywood is down this year. The blowout was a combination of Liberty is that good, and Haywood having a tough night. Haywood played with them pretty much the whole first half, and neither team was really shooting well. Then, in the 3rd quarter Haywood just got frustrated and made several careless turnovers. Not trying to take anything away from Liberty's defnese, there defense caused a bunch of them, and I mean a bunch, but Haywood also handed them several where they were not even under pressure. Very uncharacteristic of the Tomcats playing at home. I think it will be a closer game next time around. Liberty is definitely the team to beat this year.
  11. Thanks for the link PaceFan. It looks to be a great tournament once again. Several Top 50 teams from Rivals Pre-season poll: http://studentsports.Unapproved Website/content.asp?CID=605478 #7 Mater Dei(CA),#16 Lake Howell(FL),#21 Schenley(PA),#29 Arlington Country Day(FL), #44 St.Mary's(AZ), and #45 Helen Cox(LA). In another poll at Prep Nation http://www.prepnation.com/poll/poll.cfm?po...2006&week=1, it actually has Liberty ranked ahead or Cox from LA, in the Southeast Region. I'll be interested to see how Liberty does in this, they looked pretty good against Haywood last night. On a side note for you PaceFan. I noticed that Pace lost by 5 to Dunbar(OH) last year, who lost Ridgeway out of Memphis by 5.And just before that tournament Ridgeway lost to Raleigh-Egypt who had lost to Liberty earlier in the year by 6. That is the closest I could get to a common opponent on you all for last year. Liberty is looking even stronger this year than they were last year. They've already beaten Ridgeway this year by over 20.
  12. Who all is playing in the City of Palms this year? What is the schedule for it??? If I remember correctly, Brentwood Academy won it all last year. Against some tough teams, St. Patricks'(NJ) and Episcopal Academy (PA) who were both ranked in USA Today's top 25.
  13. If Haywood can play solid for 4 quarters, it could be a good game. Last year, Haywood led at the end of the first 3 quarters all 3 times they played. But, Liberty always seemed to take over in the 4th quarter. And Haywood has given away 2 big 4th quarter leads so far this year now, to Union City, and then last night to Southside. The Tomcats have got to play solid the entire game to make have a shot. But, based on all this, I'd have to agree with everyone on here that Liberty has the advantage here and should win. But, I would be surprised if it is a blowout, like some are prediciting.
  14. Tyler Smith is at Iowa now. He had one nice dunk in their last game vs Arizona St. Iowa is struggling early, but should improve. Tyler is averaging almost 15 points per game.
  15. Can you elaborate on that one? No where NEAR the top 10? Where do you have them? In your top 30 or 40 maybe? They've been to state 4 consecutive years. Granted they did lose to your Union City guys by 1. Are you thinking they are nowhere near the Top 10 because they lost a 15 point lead in the 4th quarter? (To a very good Union City team) I'm just confused on this. They did beat McGavock by 9, and they are looking good now. To make a comparison, McGavock hammered Mt.Juliet by 24, who beat White House. I'm not saying White House doesn't deserve to be in the Top 10, but I could see a case for the argument. It is pretty early to judge anyways, but to say Haywood is nowhere NEAR the Top 10??? Please elaborate. I guess Haywood will have a chance to prove themselves a little more this week, playing Southside tomorrow, and Liberty Friday.

  17. WOW. That is a shocker, not that Union City won, but that they dominated. Congrats to them. Those were some crazy Hall of Fame games in Bolivar. Two big come backs the first night, then Union City blowing out the host. And Haywood pulled a crazy comeback on McGavock. Haywood was down 16 going into the 4th quarter... but ended up winning by 9. Outscored McGavock 38-13 in the 4th quarter to win 77-68. Comage had 29 and Taylor had 21 for Haywood. Comage hit 3-3's last night. He had hit 6 against Union City.
  18. Sounds like it was a crazy night in Bolivar last night. Bolivar was up over 20 in the first half then lost to McGavock by 1. Haywood led Union City by 15 going into the 4th quarter and lost by 1. How does everyone think the Bolivar vs. Union City game or the Haywood McGavock games will go?
  19. I'm not sure times, but I know Haywood plays Union City on Wednesday and McGavock on Thursday.
  20. Trojansfan.... you should check the page on the tssaa website where it has quarterfinals host possibilities. It clearly states that Crockett will host the game if they win. If teams are from the same region, the higher seed will host. That is definitely the only reasonable way to do it. Then again, we are talking tssaa, and they are not always reasonable. Here is the link for you: http://www.tssaa.org/2006Champions/StateFootball/Quarter.htm
  21. Those are the results for the Huntingdon games. Does anyone know how Southside vs. Haywood turned out?

    A/AA

according to TSSAA the enrollments for this year were as follows: Columbia Acadmey 174 (313 with multiplier) CPA 310 (558 when multiplied) CAK 373 (671 when multiplied) USJ 378 (680 when multiplied) CCS 405 (729 when multiplied) CSAS 458 Knox Cathloic 548 (986 when multiplied) Hume-Fogg 847 Dyersburg 948 Dyersburg is over 5 times the size of Columiba Academy, yet it should be a good game.... Madison Academic was 387 by the way Although, to answer the question, I don't think you will see any split between A and AA any time soon. (here is the link to the numbers: http://www.tssaa.org/Classifications/e2007...nrollments.htm)
