  1. Have enough players accepted yet to ensure the game will be played ? If so, please post when you know the teams, thanks.
  2. Maybe a lot of coaches just didn't nominate players. I am not sure that this game was handled right in it's first year.
  3. " We can beat WS if we control the ball and clock and score on our possessions. Can't drive down the field and chew up time and get 0 points. If we can get some stops against their potent offense, who knows. Maybe last team with the ball wins the game." Agreed. If Millington plays ball control, doesn't turn it over, then your defense can make it too difficult for us to score. If our passing game is clicking, and we don't turn it over, well, can we slow you down ? You guys remind me of those great Germantown teams , just smack everyone around on offense, stingy, smash mouth defense, and the other team is dead by the end of the game. I saw a lot of good teams play Germantown close until half, or mid third quarter, then just get blown them away the rest of the game. I think if the passing game has not been a statistically significant part of the Trojans offense, it's only because they haven't had to, and when they do it's very effective. So, what's the single most important element, that WSHS's defense plays over the top, that Millington never turns over the ball. That WSHS's passing game is perfect ? That MH's defense backs play their best game ever? Injuries, coaching deceisions, special teams ? Maybe the team who eats too much on Thursday on losses. I think I give up trying to analyze this game. The team with the most points wins !
  4. Impressive. And you have now convinced me, I will be setting up WD, maybe Tuesday in the parking lot !
  5. You guy's had 3 td's called back? That is frustrating, and also indicates some fair ref'ing ( i.e. no home cooking ).
  6. Thx for the insight TraderB, it's always nice to hear from you. I have not had the pleasure ( and I mean that genuinely ) to see the Trojans. Looks like the weather will cooperate which is nice. And everyone seems healthy. Bet all of those caoches have already spent a lot of film time.
  7. I have looked, I guess there is no site to go to to see a list of all of the players. Interesting they would pick 2 3A coaches, 'tho both schools seem to have good records this year ( I am more familiar with Knox Cath. ).
  8. Thx for the invite, I will stop by. I was going to get there early on Fridy. Now I am trying to talk my wife into setting up Thanksgiving dinner there just to stake out a spot.
  9. To make some more very basic, useless comments, it's hard not to make observations like " whoever turns it over less wins " and " avoiding injuries to key players is paramount " , etc. Personally, I want it to be a dry night, no rain ! And look for a Honda van with a bunch of WSHS stuff on it, and a very distinguished looking guy with some grey hair. That's us, come on by and say hello ( I told my wife that we may need to spend Thursday night in Millington on order to get a parking space ).
  10. Word is that Antonio is not going to play. Not sure about Jones. That's very unfortunate for both of those kids. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for any other news. But you know Melrose, they will still give it all they got ( what a cliche )
  11. That's why I would be very interested in hearing kwc comment. Especially at the High School level it's a truism that defnese wins. Given Millington's defense and their home field advantage I assume a lot of people will give them the edge in this game ( think how nice it would be Spartan fans if we actually had our own field ) . Of course the rest of the state is ignoring this game I think. After all, W. TN football doesn't really count does it.
  12. well kwc, sorry your team lost. You have seen both teams play, care to give us any insight?
  13. I tend to agree, it might be a low scoring game. So much depends upon our ability to slow down your running game. It's going to be a long night if we cannot at least cause you a little trouble. So I guess we just park on the street, etc ? Do the police mind if we set up on the side of the streets for those who wish to tail gate, etc ?
  14. How can one find out which players from across the state have been invited? Who picked the head coaches ?
  15. This thread is a great example of one of the things I like about sports. You do your best, exhibit good sportsmanship, look to the past primarily to learn from it ( plus good memories ), and after the last game is over, you start preparing for the future. Congratulations on a fine season DB, and hats off to some good fans.
  16. Selfishly on behalf of both teams I wish each of us could play Region 5 & 6 teams ( and win of course ! ) before we meet each other. You guys have arguably one of the best running games, as well as the best defenses in the state. And it seems when you pass, you make a touch down about a third of the time. And we play at your place! Boy do we have our work cut out for us. I just hope we can give you guys a good game, we'll do our best. How is parking around your stadium ? How soon do you suggest we get there in order to set up and do some tailgating ? It's been decades since I have been up to see a game. Let's hope the weather is good.
  17. Our game was over early ( Mercy rule ) and I got to hear the last quarter or so. Sounds like a great game. I really wish it had been taped. Congrats Trojans, impressive win. Especially to hang tough after those two quick scores. That's a heck of a team you have. Super season Tigers, you had a wonderful year.
  18. comcast should have asked for a tape, I would have liked to see the game later.
  19. You guys both have good teams, it's going to be a great game. If I were not going to be at the Spartans/Mustangs game I would be there for sure. And cam6, I couldn't agree more, I want my team to win, but by gosh I will be pulling for one of you guys if we don't. I have already decided to go to the finals no matter which team gets out of W. TN alive. Whoever gets there needs the support from all of us, NONE of us gets much respect beyond Shelby County. And millingtonfan2007 welcome, it would be nice to have more posters from around here. kwc is getting tired of the rest of us !
  20. Nice to hear from you again TraderB. Good analysis of that game imo.
  21. No question about it, the Mustangs are a very good team and I expect their excellent coaching staff to have made adjustments and be more than ready. It's always difficult to beat good teams twice in a season and this will be no exception. Houston will bring it, and the Spartans respect them fully . Pray for injury free games !
  22. Amen to your comment about the officiating. And say our prayers for no injuries to anyone. Let's get a W. TN team to State and bring back a trophy !
  23. Wow, very impressive. Thank you for going to the trouble. Not sure how to interpret a lot of this data. For instance, why the seeming lack of success by Memphis City Schools ( of which I am a fan btw ). Also, West Tn teams have certainly had their fair share of chances in terms of being in the finals, but have come up short in statistical terms of actually winning . Should result in some thought provoking discussions.
