  1. The 5 best I have ever seen play in TN (film or otherwise) was: Old School, Curt Watson-Cumberland County James "Little Man" Stewart - Morristown Troy Fleming- BGA Alvin Duke - Murfreesboro Riverdale Gerald Riggs - Red Bank
  2. Rockwood's David Lane. Rockwood had 2 District Chamipionships and had been to the regions 3 total times before Lane got to Rockwood in 1994. In 11 yrs, 7 Districts, 6 Region Champ, and 5 out of 6 yrs to the state tourney is not bad, especially considering where Rockwood was in the 40+ yrs before he got there.
  3. fastman, This season will be Rockwood's 5th trip to the state tournament in six years. Unfortunately for Rockwood, they are 2-8 overall in the tourney and have finished 3rd, 4th twice and tied for 5th so far. The 2 wins: 1999 Upperman 2003 Friendship Christian Academy The Losses: 1999: USJ & Franklin Road Academy 2000: Franklin Road Academy & Charleston 2001: Charleston & Franklin Road Academy 2003: Goodpasture twice
  4. Congrads on the win, 5 out of 6 yrs to the state is not to shabby. For those of us who were unable to see the game or local news, what happened in the 2nd that you are referring too? Good luck in Memphis.
  5. Congrads to the team on a great victory. Good luck against University High, hopefully the upperclassman remember the last time they played each other and are focused on finishing them this time. I hope everyone lays off Goose. It always seems like the other schools get better coverage than your school. I think Goose does a heck of a job, as a matter of fact, the Roane County News improved alot through the 90 until today. If someone thinks Goose gives biased coverage, check out an article from the 80's. Unfortunately, a paper like the Roane County News will never have a 6+ page sports section like most of us on here would want. Speaking of baseball coverage, Goose do you have a private email address that you can be reached at regarding some Roane County Baseball history? I came across something this week that I thought was interesting. Anyway, good luck to Rockwood on Friday.
  6. I know someone said it was going to be posted here or on Ihigh, but does anyone have the team's statistics for this season up to this point? I thought maybe ET or someone had access and could link it.
  7. Congrads to Rockwood on another district title and to the team for tying the 1999 team for the most wins in a season for the school. Good luck setting the new mark on Monday.
  8. How are the pitching staffs holding up? Six games in 5 days has to wear on the staff and Harriman should be a bit fresher only playing #4 this week, so I hate to say it, but Harriman may have a little edge in this one. Obviously, both Coach Lane and Andy will try to win the game tomorrow, but I wonder if they might be tempted to let their top pitchers rest and throw the 3,4, or 5 pitchers. The game tomorrow may come down to fatigue and some "Big Picture" Strategical moves. Any other thoughts?
  9. Do they play tomorrow or is it back to back tonight? If the game is tomorrow, what time will the game be played at Rockwood?
  10. The brackets are already set up on the TSSAA website. According to it, the possibility of 2 of the top 3 teams in the state, Goodpasture vs. USJ, playing in the 1st round is very much a possibility. Anyway it plays out, should be a fun week in Memphis.
  11. Honestly, I don't have a good reason for picking MtP to get upset except I figured someone will be upset and because of the strength of that region/section plus the fact the defending state champs, Davidson Academy, and Goodpasture are in that section I just guessed Mt. Pleasant will be the upset vicitm. Truthfully Mt. Pleasant is probably one of the top 3 teams in Single A baseball in the state. No offense meant, just making a wild guess.
  12. How's the weather holding up in Rockwood? It is pouring rain in the west.
  13. Xtreme, Just ignore folks like that. Its not worth responding to someone who goes out of there way to be immature or classless. He is probably not even associated with any of the schools he mentioned. Anyway, on a District 4-A topic does anyone know if Wartburg held on to win against Coalfield and how does Rockwood's pitching look for the next 2 games?
  14. It's that time of year again. What is everyone's take on who will be in Memphis and what are your overall predictions of who takes it? My guesses: West Sectional: USJ & TCA Midwest Sectional: Goodpasture & Davidson Ac. (after upsetting Mt. Pleasant) Mideast Sectional: Friendship Christian & Boyd Buchanan East Sectional: Harriman and Rockwood and my guess for the finishing order (based alot on bracket draws, not neccessarily the best teams in order) 1. Goodpasture 2. TCA 3. (Tie) USJ and Rockwood 5. (Tie) Davidson Academy and Friendship Christian 7. (Tie) Harriman and Boyd Buchanan
  15. Any score updates yet from the 4-A Tourney?
  16. Games like the Cumberland County loss do happen, they get going and it snowballs on you. The great thing about baseball is the next day can have a completely different outcome. Nice job on picking up win #20. It's amazing where this program is, until the late 90's Rockwood's greatest win total was 16. I think its safe to say that Rockwood expects 20+ wins a year now and that is a testament to Coach Lane, the staff, and the players. I know this season will seem like a disappointment unless the team makes it to Memphis, but congratulations on another successful regular season and good luck to the team for the postseason.
  17. What happened in the Cumberland County loss?
  18. Rockwood committed 13 errors? Is that a record or at least a team record?
  19. I have to say that the brushback and even a pitch intentally thrown at a player is part of baseball. Several things to consider though. The person you through at better absolutely, no questions asked, deserve it. A little trash talking or someone trying to steal signs, let the catcher say something and brush him back. If the kid shows your team up or intentionally comes after one of your teammates, then it is the pitcher's responsibility to protect his own. However, the beanball has to be low, at the leg or hip...NEVER at the head. Also, if you are going to do it, make sure you actually hit the kid. Played in a game once where our pitcher threw at a guy who needed a warning, missed him, and then the next pitch ended up about 400+ ft away for a HR.
  20. Did anyone ever get the Rockwood statistics online yet?
  21. I noticed the Sweetwater games got removed and that Cookeville played Harriman in a game that wasn't originally on the schedule....Did sweetwater not show and Harriman fill in at the last minute, weather related, or something like that? Good Job on the win against DeKalb Co.
  22. UT has several problems going against when recruiting local talent. Maybe Coach Del attempts to be more national in his recruiting and just misses out on some solid in state players. I think the problem is deeper than that. UT, in terms of fan support and college baseball atmosphere, are suprisingly not near some other SEC schools. Miss State is or was at one time the largest on campus stadium in America...they have gotten 14,000 plus to a regular season game and 6,000 is considered fair attendance. LSU gets 5000+ regularly. I believe 6,000 would be a record at UT. Basically, the same advantages Neyland stadium gives UT in football in recruitment, some other schools have on UT in baseball. Second, the money issue comes into effect. Until recently (the lottery should help Tennessee), UT was limited to offer several players only partial scholarships because of scholarship restrictions, Title IX stuff. States that had the lottery and scholarship programs, like Georgia, Louisana, and Florida can offer partial baseball scholarships and then get supplemental $ for players through there scholarship programs, basically offering a fully paid ride versus UT's partial. So, in short, Money and atmosphere may be doing alot of the recruiting against UT.
  23. Just curious if anyone knows the TSSAA rule on the number of games a team can play in the regular season. Ten years ago I believe the TSSAA allowed 24 dates and tournaments counted against a schedule as 2 dates (I could be remembering incorrectly though). I have noticed that some teams are playing 30+ a season this year and in years past. Are some of these games JV games and are just being listed as a regular season game on the schedule? Just wondering...
  24. Any word from the Rockwood - Wartburg game today?
