  1. I just saw the score. Bummer! I figured Westview would go at least to the next round. This just hasn't been a day of good news. Well, I'm proud of the boys anyway. I hope they have had a great time. They had a really good season.
  2. Bald one

    Martin

I think Martin stands a chance. They are "hot" right now and their talent complement is high. Coach Dan has waited a long time for this opportunity and the boys have risen to all the challenges thus far. For a team from this region to get this far is great! We've had other teams progress to this level but I'm excited that a public school from West Tennessessee has gotten there! Good luck Martin!
  3. Martin looked to be on top of their game last night. They cut through USJ like a hot knife through butter. USJ is young and will be awesome in 1-2 years. I pick Martin over Kingsbury by 4. USJ will have a tough time with Sheffield - How about Sheffield by 2? Is this gambling?
  4. Easy fella's, Let's not be dissin anyones teams. each region has their best team. We'll see how they stack up soon enough. (by the way, I'm partial to middle Tn teams...especially Franklin!) However, being in West Tn and having played them twice and overcoming some hard feelings on the front end, I'd like to see Martin do well. They are a great group of fellows with a lot of talent and a head coach who has a lot of class. I have to say the high point of this season has been getting to know these soccer players better (even if they did stomp us twice!).
  5. Westview 4 USJ 1 (maybe) I'll be there looking for liondef. I'll be the bald one with a purple shirt on! Good luck fellows!
  6. Sportsmaniac, The score seems to reflect what you said. I didn't figure that TCA would play Martin that close. Did they recover from the injuries or did they just make great adjustments? I'll be at USJ on Thursday to see a great game between Martin and USJ! Good luck Martin!
  7. Milan was beaten at USJ 3/1 tonight in a hard fought contest. USJ came out shooting abd Milan slid into a "defensive" posture. There were a few good runs on the USJ goal but only one that turned into a point. USJ is talented but young. Martin should be able to handle them as both teams play very agressive/physical ball. The difference will be the age and experience. If Martin can keep their heads screwed on straight and press USJ they should be able to capitalize on USJ errors. Milan's problem was giving the ball away. If they can overcome that they will be a good team. Milan's #11 was not a power on the field tonight but defensive Player #12, and #9 played an awesome match. #3 and #26 midfielders worked very hard to get the ball up the field and it was actually #26 who scored Milan's only goal. Not much to say about Milan's offense. If they could have got it clicking they may have gone a little farther. All in all I have to say that Milan was surprising this year to be able to compete with the "tough" talented teams in their area. Martin, Haywood, and USJ. Milan has a young offense and mid-field so "better luck next year". Good luck to all those still in the hunt!
  8. USJ 3 Milan 1 Good game. USJ had all the right moves and calls. Milan slipped into their usual 8 man defense and giving the ball away constantly. USJ capitalized on errors on the field but didn't convert 3 PK's. Martin should be able to handle them.
  9. Martin/TCA - If the injuries that TCA recieved in the last game are not healed, I think Martin is going to overpower them. I have not had the good fortune of seeing TCA play ball but up to the last game they appeared to be a fairly powerful force in their district. If Martin plays "heads-up-ball" (which they seem to always do) I think Martin should beat TCA by at least 4.
  10. Is there a specific site where one can go to get a listing of regional summer camps to be held in 2004?
  11. I read the "Jackson Scum" Friday and it did seem "a little biased" toward USJ! I am constantly being called to subscribe to this newspaper but why would I want a newspaper that only writes about teams out of Jackson. I understand that there are several schools there but come on, the writer of Friday's article about the USJ/TCA match made it seem like USJ is "guaranteed" a state championship. I'm sorry, but they are not the quality team that Martin is. Milan has undergone a lot of stress this year-most of it brought on by themselves- but they have "stuck in there" and dealt with their problems. This Thursday's game (USJ/Milan) is a "grudge match". It has been said that Milan didn't "win" the first time out against USJ but remember, USJ didn't score. So in the "best case" senario, it was a stalemate. I'm going to see the game and I hope Milan can perform to the level they did earlier in the season. Hurt, The Milan team seemed to have a great time competing against Martin. It appeared to be a very physical game but both teams seemed to "enjoy" the match. I've talked to several of Milan's players and there were no "digs" about the style of play. It was hard fought and the better team came out on top. I believe the score might have been a little closer if Milan's keeper was performing at 100%. Of course you all still would have won but perhaps not 5-0! Milan does have a great keeper but he has had no "formal" training. The young man could have a great future if they can get him some. He's got a lot of guts and doesn't mind coming out and sacrificing himself to get to the ball. Sometimes it appears he does that too often and pays for it dearly but that wisdom will come with age! I hope Milan gets to come back to Martin this Thursday but Tuesday's game against USJ is gonna be a tough one!
  12. Martin looked very good in virtually every acpect of the game.It looked like you fellows had 22 players out there last night. Milan never mounted an offence that really amounted to anything. Milan's goalie had an off night also. Too many goals were shots that were stoppable but he never got into his groove. Martin should fair well against TCA. Perhapse Milan will be back in Martin Next Thursday for another go. Good luck to Coach Dan and "the Boys" from Martin. Play well and keep the great attitudes!
  13. I don't know Hurt? If you fellows are on in your passes and crosses it could get real ugly for Milan! I don't see any "medium" score on this one. It'll be reeeaaal close with a win for Milan or a "blowout" in Martin's favor.
  14. Well... The Milan/Haywood game was many things but AWESOME doesn't describe it. Hurt is right. Who in the world could imagine a 16 point game! I couldn't figure out what the defenses were doing either. "Holes" should have been the name given to the defenses last night or better yet "mass confusion". I certainly hope we see better tomorrow night in the Martin/Haywood game. Hurt, You guys looked good in the first half. You moved the ball pretty freely and your crosses were right on. Did Trenton ever mount an offense? (Evidently not by the score but did they ever threaten?)
