Well here's my take on the '05 season for the Mavs.
With a young but improving Stooksbury at the top of the lineup and manning shortstop they should be ok there.
At second they have Phillips that has started since his Sophomore or Freshman year and really bursted on the scene last year as a quality pitcher.
I don't know who they have at first...although I hope they give Caleb Day a fair shake to take over the job.
At third they have perhaps one of the top talents and prospects in East Tennessee if he gets his head right and matures into the player he can be...he should mature into a potential D-I type player, both as a hitter and pitcher.
At catcher... well they have a very delightful problem there in which they have two or even three catchers that are very good.
In the outfield... they have Jessie Webb returning with Senior leadership, along with either Matt Harmon (another Senior) or T.J. Riggs (super Junior), Cody Pack (Tons of Potential and only a Super Sophomore) along with all the other upcoming Freshman that new coach Mike Guinn is bringing with him.
The pitching staff should be as good as its been in a while with Webb (potential mid-80s) , Phillips (amazing control and swagger), Chesney (Flamethrower), Not to mention a guy who (if he wanted) could be the best of the group and intimidate any hitter in the district Brandon Isabell, and whom ever else may step up. Another problem they won't have to worry about is scoring runs. With a middle of the lineup looking like Chesney, Webb, Harmon and throwin in there a Cody Pack and T.J. Riggs along with Cory Stooksberry and Cody Phillips (over .300 hitter with fewest RBIs ever) they will score runs. This team could very well COMPETE with some College teams.
All I can say about this team is I wish them all the best and Coach Guinn, (AND ALLEN) just let 'em play baby they'll win some ball games.
