  1. (4) of the HS's really do have good solid athletic-minded principals........McGavock, Overton, Hillwood, East Lit will do all that they can to bolster athletics, but they are probably not enough!! I would not be surprised to see Metro drop football............ OR going forward most of the programs will have to be supplemented by board monies. The past and ONGOING federal experiments have just about scuttled a once really good system!! Those responsible will never admit it.......... If something is not working in Metro; come up with some new-fangled mess; throw scads of money at it; and then rename it in (2) years............it is "lipstick on a pig"
  2. Well then it will be "butt ugly" to "butt ugly"..........and for the record; this making the play-offs these days is about the most watered down statistic out there. Means almost nothing to most. When there where only 3 classes and each district champ went; it meant something!! Even in the old days, going to a bowl game was an accomplishment!! I am sure he is a good coach............he better be! ole
  3. If you are a friend of Jackson and Finley; I would get them to call Campbell or Pigue. Campbell is looking smarter as every day goes by..............also Macbeth was pretty scary!!
  4. Remember the old horror movies that had a spooky house!! You would be saying don't go in..............DO NOT GO IN............and of course they would go in!! (*note....would have killed the movie had they chosen to stay outside). Now the pay is not bad, and if you only competed only with other Metro publics........it might be an OK job, but if you happen to venture outside Davidson county vs the "real" public 5A and 6A teams or happen to schedule a "big" private............it might be a mismatch!! The only Metro publics that can do well in postseason are the Maplewoods, Pearl-Cohn, maybe Whites Creek that have smaller enrollments (compete in 4A or lower), and have usually a pretty good group of talented athletes. The larger Metro publics are playing on an unlevel field when you compare facilities, fan support, parent support...........In years past, the old NIL was a "primo" league and a great place to teach and coach, but a combination of things have downgraded both the teaching and coaching jobs. 1.) That magnificent Fed govt' experiment call "busing" that resulted in a constant adjustment of zone lines............way oversized comprehensive HS's and unstable zoning (because of that elusive ratio). *note............too this very day (LOL) certain groups are still going to court about some fairy-tale zoning issue. A lot of very supportive folks left and went to privates or to the adjoining counties. 2.) Publicity for HS football in Metro publics has diminished greatly for several reasons........Tennessean was a Nashville paper at one time with compete from the old "Banner"...........now it is a Mid-State paper and bulk of football coverage goes to Privates, Rutherford, and Willianson. The Titans and Predators and Sounds crowd a lot of space in the sports page.........old NIL had to only compete with Vandy, some UT. If excitement is not generated............no crowd, no money, less equipment..*note football is best HS money sport, but it also cost more. So, I love Friday Nights Lights.............I am fearful of Friday the 13th IMHO...........
  5. Here is a different look at what might have caused "some" problems in the Metro school system. IMHO, it was really NOT completely the grand social experiment called BUSING. It quite possibly was the formation of the METRO form of government in Davidson County. Lets take a look at (1) other Tennessee large city ---Memphis. There are (2) separate school systems in Shelby County. A city system that is not too hot, and a county system that is still quite viable (think Germantown, Houston, Bartlett, etc.). If Davidson County still had (2) separate systems -- city/county.........Do you think there would still be a couple real good schools in all facets of the school day. Good example---Bellevue has an excellent community over there on the other side of that hill, and does not have HS within a good 8-10 miles. Maybe many parents would not have "escaped" too the neighboring counties or to the many privates that sprung up. This is only my opinion...........any comments? yea or nay!!
  6. Are there going to be any more jobs open up?? ole
  7. sorry, but I am out of all loops........... I am currently south of Tennessee for a while, and I have "zero" info on the comings and goings of the current Blackman job search. I think that a couple of Wilson County's finnest did apply for the job! I do know for sure that ONE of the HC's did apply. I am in the twilight of a mediocre career (LOL), and if one particular coach gets the job..............I will probably be shoved on into the "darkness". I did hear that someone near and dear to you also applied.............. ole
  8. You must be kidding...............Smyrna was picked 1st or 2nd in every poll. Best returning group of players in Reg 4-5A was easily Oakland, second best group was either Smyrna or Blackman. Smyrna returned an excellent "D" group. Smyrna will easily have the best group next season and beyond. Truth is they under achieved early-on, but then got the act together. Team with best talent will generally win and this season.............top to bottom--Oakland had deepest talent base AND they won Region! All in all, the region panned out about like I thought it would. My only early prediction that did not come to past was Blackman and maybe Lebanon (they were simply crushed by injuries and lack of depth). The "boro" District will be quite a battle next season. ole
  9. impressive offense..............43 yds rushing! Must be running one of those "anchor" offenses!! (LOL). By the way, cat.............your late appearance this season smelled a bit of being a bit of a frontrunner. You can now return that 6' 240 massive sculpted body back to your place of reprise S.P. Rodreguiz......4' 10" 118 #'s, but very, very wiry and I am a Sacacrapus. ole there Cat-man
  10. Name is S.P. Rodriquez, 5' 3", 134.5, Sacacrapus (*note I am very wiry). Murfresboro Mafia may be a bit of a stretch..............Mafia would imply a group with a "leader". It is actually more of a mob; a mob has no leader. hasty bananas.....and ole!!
  11. Also, Blades has done a credible job.............but there are 2 things. (1) He came into a nice situation. (2) Hillsboro's Region opponents have never been terribly tough other than an "over-athleted" Maplewood. He played "up" twice this season and got beat in both games. He will now get that opportunity week after week. It will be interesting to see how he does! ole
  12. Which in actuality is nothing more than another "money track" for the TSSAA. Folks...............starting next year we will have 8 (yes count them) 8 State Champions in Football! Only word I can think of is ABSURD
  13. Editor's note*- This now officially cannot become a recurring theme!! As of today (11-12-08), Lebanon and Wilson Central are no longer the "red-headed" stepchildren of the Rutherford Co. Region 4. Both Wilson Central and Lebanon along with Mt Juliet have been placed in District 9 with the Sumner Co. schools. The Rutherford Co. schools will comprise District 8 as a 6 team district.......................so if Smyrna does win; recurrance (sp) will probably have to occur somewhere in future play-offs---------HOW NICE!! ole
  14. Oh................I just read it in the DNJ. For the record, would you quit writing like some kind of diminished moron. You really are not doing it "ebonic" justice. ole
