I know and believe what you are saying. I can name 5-6 jobs that were done deals before the interview process even began. Is this right, no. But it is been done for years and will continue.

Do you really think me and your Dad would ever scheme to do something? Watchout , you never know. As for Abner, since when did it matter. He is very good with kids and principals like that.
-
HaHa, I remember you now,you were the comedian on our team. Thanks for saying it though.
-
Abner will be the Coach. Principal loves him.

8 man football is football played with 8 players. On offense 5 men must be on the LOS. There is a center, 2 guards, and 2 ends. The ends can be tight or split. In the backfield there is a QB, and 2 backs. Alingments can vary. On defense you can have many alignments. Some used are, 3-3-2, 4-2-2,3-2-3. Same schemes used in 11 man football on offense and defense can be adapted to fit 8 man football. I went to a game and found it to be very exciting. Some people did not notice the difference in number of players until after the game was in the 2nd. quarter. The field is 80 yards long and can be regular width.

Workinprogress, All is well with me. I will probably see more Overton games than anyone else. You know how much I like your Dad. Put a schedule in the mail if that works for you or put it on here .LILAL, how are you doing? Good to see you are still around.
-
Workinprogess,How is your team going to be this year? When is your first game? Do you get your philosophy from your Dad? Where can I get your schedule. Where is the new school? What game are you going to Friday?

I agree with you 100%. I did not say the best players should not work out. I tell kids all the time to be the best you can be and not compare yourself to your team mates , but to every member of every team you will play. I never said a player would not get better, I think they will. I also think injury prevention could be the best argument for weights. I'm saying that to many coaches ,of all sports, think they are the only game in town and try to monopolize the athletes. I wish every athlete played every sport and enjoyed competing and had time, in the summer, to be a kid. If an athlete wants to improve in the weight room or in a sport he will do it regardless. The title of this topic is crossing the line, and too many coaches are doing this. I know of coaches who do this just because the coach down the hall or street is doing it. They don't want to look lazy or have people think they are not working. Most school principals should monitor this and establish guidlines. I know of a school that when football is over it is over, and basketball begins, when basketball is over baseball begins, and so on. In the summer coaches were given a period of time to conduct workouts and football did nothing till July, and the other sports were finished. This same principal was a former football coach and would release any coach of his duties if they did not follow this policy.I also thinks that weights should be done in every sport year round not just offseason. There are ways to build and to maintain.

I have coached 33 years. I don't care how much time you spend in the weight room or practicing on the athletic fields the best players are still the best players. I do think practicing will make you better and weights will improve your speed and strength, but it is still the same results, the best players are still the best players. I have seen kids play all 3 sports, never hit the weights , play in the summer ( no sports), and still be the best on their team. The only time that they do a sport is during it's own season. I think that what all the off-season workouts do is let a coach know who is committed to his team mates and his coaches. I recall a coach at a clinic tell about a conversation he overheard in the locker room just before the first week of practice and the players were dreading the start of practice instead of being excited, as all coaches would want. The next year the coach ask that the players take the summer off and just enjoy being a kid and have fun. He said that the players could not wait till practice started and came back with a great attitude. The school has a great athletic program and continues to be very successful. Let kids be kids and enjoy being a high school athlete.

Good coach and metro's loss. It is not giving up when there is no chance and everything has been tried. Lilal, where have you been? Thought you had given up.Good to see you back. How is everything going in Sumner county?

I am not trying to do anything but say it like it is. I'm not talking about any race, I'm talking about socio-ecomomics. I'm just saying that kids are a reflection alot of times of how they are brought up and by who is bringing them up. In coaching football , I never coached white kids or black kids, I just coached football players.

One of many good coaches metro has lost.

School populations are a reflection of our society. The kids you see at Hickory Hollow mall and Rivergate mall on Friday and Saturday night are the kids you see in metro schools. The kids you see at Cool Springs are the kids you see at Williamson county schools. The neighborhoods are where the kids come from and the apple does not fall far from the tree. This is just how it is. As far as the quality of education, metro 's teachers and educational oppurtunities are as good as anywhere. You can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink. These are facts, you just play with the hand you are dealt.

Days gone by. Hopefully not forever.

SSDD,5down&5across.

This is a true statement, and I don't think 35 people have applied for the last 10 jobs in metro.
-
Metro did this all by themselves with no involvement by TSSAA.
-
There is no way a principal should have that much power, not the one's in metro now.

I remember one game where I thought shadow was going to have to leave at half-time, and then the assistants would have to take over. That is because he thought he could still QB during the week of practice. If the pain had been in his left arm and pec he would have had to leave. Shadow did a good job of making sure his assistants could handle it.

What gives with principals wanting to control everything. The way this sounds, Ron ran the school. All he ran was the football team, and thats what the football coach should do with full support of the main office. Principals are hired to run the school and coaches hired to coach. I had a prinicipal tell me one time ,that if she ran the football, which she hired me to do,then we would be in trouble. She also said that was the reason she hired me,to run the team.

Brad is going to get better and better and hope he will get a chance one day. As far as the new school, I've heard the principal and coach will be ????????????. Also you are correct about some not even wanting the job in the first place. It is more than some think or even want.
-
What I am referring to is that no one is probably ready to fully understand or know all that is involved with being a head coach. This often comes with time and being around as many good coaches as you can and learning as studying as much as you can. I've seen alot of young guys get in over their heads and get out or get fired and this probably would not happen to someone with a lot of time and experience. I don't want this to possibly happen to Mose. I care for him to much. As for the coach you mentioned , no he was not ready and neither was some others that are coaching. Sometimes players make good coaches out of us all. And by the way , I'm not offended by your comments and mean no harm to anyone with my opinions.

Of those I will say that J. Norris should have been included. Moreno would be better in the Mid-state , not in metro. All listed were good to have on staffs.

There are 3 good assistants in my mine. Baskin and Green at McGavock. Bush at Antioch. I think these guys are ready and could do well. They are probably more qualified than some Head coaches in Metro. The sad part is that they will probably be past over for Hillwood and Hillsboro. 2 others are Gore and Herzog at Hillsboro.
