There is no way a principal should have that much power, not the one's in metro now.

I remember one game where I thought shadow was going to have to leave at half-time, and then the assistants would have to take over. That is because he thought he could still QB during the week of practice. If the pain had been in his left arm and pec he would have had to leave. Shadow did a good job of making sure his assistants could handle it.

What gives with principals wanting to control everything. The way this sounds, Ron ran the school. All he ran was the football team,and thats what the football coach should do with full support of the main office. Principals are hired to run the school and coaches hired to coach. I had a prinicipal tell me one time ,that if she ran the football,which she hired me to do,then we would be in trouble. She also said that was the reason she hired me,to run the team.

Brad is going to get better and better and hope he will get a chance one day. As far as the new school, I've heard the principal and coach will be ????????????. Also you are correct about some not even wanting the job in the first place. It is more than some think or even want.

What I am referring to is that no one is probably ready to fully understand or know all that is involved with being a head coach. This often comes with time and being around as many good coaches as you can and learning as studying as much as you can. I've seen alot of young guys get in over their heads and get out or get fired and this probably would not happen to someone with a lot of time and experience. I don't want this to possibly happen to Mose. I care for him to much. As for the coach you mentioned , no he was not ready and neither was some others that are coaching. Sometimes players make good coaches out of us all. And by the way , I'm not offended by your comments and mean no harm to anyone with my opinions.

Of those I will say that J. Norris should have been included. Moreno would be better in the Mid-state , not in metro. All listed were good to have on staffs.

There are 3 good assistants in my mine. Baskin and Green at McGavock. Bush at Antioch. I think these guys are ready and could do well. They are probably more qualified than some Head coaches in Metro. The sad part is that they will probably be past over for Hillwood and Hillsboro. 2 others are Gore and Herzog at Hillsboro.

Mose is a great guy and I like him alot. He is not ready yet, but I think one day he could.

What makes these guys so special, that they should be Head coaches? I know and like Mose alot, but there is no way he should be considered yet. Some of these guys are not even certified teachers, and one can not be hired because of some past happenings. How well do you know these guys and are a coach of public schools to know what it takes. These guys are not ready.

I'm not against any coach that has a job. All I'm saying is they came along at the right time, and had some help. Most of the time this is the case. This happened 25-30 years ago,and is happening now. What is sad is that Metro has very few good coaches to select from as compared to the past.

Much of Hillboro's success was due to a great defense. That coach is still on staff and would like the job. Just being a Head coach is not saying he is the best coach on the staff. If someone is a true co-ordinator then they are capable of being a Head coach. Metro currently has a few schools where this is true.

I'm not sure you can say they have paid their dues. I'm not sure that Ralph or Arcentae paid a lot of dues. What coach lost at his last job that would be so bad.

Will hire be a Metro assistant or going outside? Who are best assistants in Metro who deserve a chance? Will assistants at Hillsboro apply?

Coach Hemontoler went with Coach Aydelott. Coaches Gore and Herzog are staying at Hillsboro. Principal wants to hire a big name, not knowing the 2 in the building are as good as it can be.

Rumor is that no coach in school will be considered to be the new headman. Only one assistant left to go to Riverdale, 2 very good assistants have decided to stay. The team will have spring practice under their leadership. Thoughts?

Schemes don't win, players win. You can do the same things out of a lot of schemes. Options ,play action passes, drop back, 3 step, 5 step, sprint out, running off tackle, traps, counters, sweeps, dives, and zones can all be run out of any scheme. Schemes can be multiple or basic.

Good post, I agree that most if not all Mid-state schools are not invovled in this type behavior.

Any coach of any school, public or private, who makes first contact with a student not zoned to their school is recruiting. If a parent makes first contact with a private school then there is no problem. The key is first contact. Coaches of both public and private recruit and will continue just to win. Coaches should just take the kids that are theirs and work there butts off. How many coaches that win big have won without cheating(winning).

There are no schools in Metro that are the same as they were. It will never be like it should be or could be compared to the past.

You are right about Coach not caring if you like or dislike him. It is all about respect. Nobody cared about kids or worked harder than he did. He won alot of games and did what he thought was right, that's all that matters. There are coaches winning now that have sold out their values just to win. They are not happy because they know it is wrong. This game is not all about winning at this level. Look at the highest levels of ball trying to win with super talented players. It is not even working at that level.

What is the biggest difference between coaching staffs today compared to coaching staffs of yesterday. Most times today there is not a staff(enough coaches).

I agree, time will tell. I believe that coach Rankin would be the first to say that the success can continue if the right coach is picked.
