  1. JKar, I'll be pn the sideline with a camera if you want to come introduce yourself in person at the Karns game. I look for Larry "The Snake" Napier to have an outstanding game and for Chris Johnson to return to 200+ yard rushing form. The defense will be as good as always and the Cougars will win by at least 14 points.
  2. Let's face it Riverdale is an excellent program. They won't be forced to forfiet any games. The only thing that will stop Riverdale is D-B. Roll Tribe.
  3. The QB situation isn't that grim. Napier would have looked pretty good against any team but D-B. I see the Cougars coming together despite any internal friction to clinch their first ever playoff game.
  4. there is no way the Toppers hang with the Indians. I've seen both teams in action and it is going to be like men playing boys. Roll Tribe!
  5. I want to wish the Tribe the best for the big rivalry game with Science Hill this week. I followed both teams in my ETSU days but D-B was always the most fun team to watch. Roll Tribe.
  6. D-B proved why they were the top team in the state. I have never seen a defense like that one. On the offensive side of the ball they showed all of their weapons. Remeber folks this team went to Blankenship field to defeat Oak Ridge. I doubt any team in the state can stand up to D-B at this point, even mighty Riverdale isn't going to be able to stop the Tribe. I don't think that all of the Coach Wells critics out there are hitting the mark. Sloverhas been suffering through injuries on season and is a key in our defense. Johnson had never played QB and would have done ok with a little more practice time. Napier is a good athlete and was a great QB at one point in his career, he had some great passes that I doubt any other team we played would have been able to pick off. I seriously doubt that any Wells critic could have gotten the Cougars to where they are today so all of you need to drink a big glass of "Shut the heck up!". Everybody needs to put this behind them and go pack out the visitor's section at Karns next week and support this team.
  7. It should be the usual down and dirty match up that always happens at Campbell County and Karns. These two teams have a history of not liking each other that goes back to a basketball game about 18 years or so ago and it may go back farther than that. It should be a good game as both teams are on an upswing. If the COugars don't make in big changes and let Larry get the reps in practice at QB this week they should be fine. He threw some passes that would have been easy completions against any team besides D-B.
  8. I'm glad you added it. I do my best to cover the local scene. I hope that I can keep you informed. I'll do my best for all of my readers to give the best sports coverage around here.
  9. Heaven forbid that two schools get along before a big game. I can understand where the D-B fans are coming from. It is a long trip and I wouldn't want to have to spend time looking for a good eatin establishment when I make the trip to upper East Tennessee. I recomend El Pubs to anybody wanting a good, quick and reasonably priced meal. I look forward to following the Tribe in the playoffs this season. Hopefully we will even get to meet twice.
  10. Alot of these people saying this are just Cougar haters. I never worry about D-B fans saying bad things. I sum D-B up in two word---CLASS ACT. I know it is a longshot for the Cougars to win. I also know that we play the game for a reason and it would be considered the upset of the year if the Cougars get a win over the Tribe. I personally hope and believe we can win, I wouldn't be much of a cougar fan if I didn't. I also know that this team is playiing well enough for it to actually happen. I hope all the Tribe has a safe trip down here and I can't wait until Friday.
  11. D-B deserves to be proud they are one of theclassiest and most tradition rich programs in the state.
  12. Our website is www.volunteertimes.com. We usually update late Thursday/early Friday.
  13. Thank you for the kind words about my column. I feel the Horsemen will put the pressure on D-B all night long and their play will open the linebackers up to make some big hits. I look for the defense to come up big, they will have to if we hope to win.
  14. First i want to thank all of the D-B fans for the class that they show. They are by far my favorite team that we play this year. I was a huge D-B fan when I was going to ETSU. As for the CC is Sorry person, Devin was a great football player and he was a pleasure to coach.. He plays rugby now and if you think that is for the unathletic then you know nothing about the sport. Try it some time. To CCAlum, Derek Marlow has always supportred this team. He transfered his senior year because of an uncertain coaching situation.. If he didn't want to play for Campbell County he would have left after middle scholl. He was also a pleasure to coach by the way. Do I think the Cougars have a good chance of beating D-B? Yes I do. I know that the Tribe is an awesome program and by the numbers it shouldn't be a close game. I also know that this Cougar team has enough heart to pull this one out. I mean who can't get up to play the number one team in the state. I can't wait til Friday.
  15. D-B will be by far the best team the Cougars have faced this season. The COugars area little banged up right now, particularly at QB. Normally this would spell a big loss for the Cougars. This, however, isn't a normal Cougar team. I look for them to really step up to the plate and have the games of their lives against the Tribe. Some people may say I'm nuts but I believe in magic. Cougars upset D-B.
  16. They are here anytime you want to pick them up.
  17. We are on Wednesday nights from 7:55 until 8:55. The numbers to call are (423)566-1450 or (423)562-3557. We'd love to hear from you.
  18. I agree about JKar. I don't usually like what he has to say, but he isn't really mean about it like footballdodo is. JKar just points out facts. As for you footballdod, if you are from the Campbell County area, I challenge you to come on Sports Chat Wednesday night and make these points to everybody live and on TV. If you aren't from Campbell County then you are truly clueless about this team. The Bearden fans I talked to after the game had grown to respect the Cougars. I'm sure several of their other opponents have done the same.
  19. Actually Peeblee is my father and it isn't so much that he can't spell than it is that he can't type lol. He also has a very slow computer at school that may have something to do with his never running spell check. I won't go deep into the circumstances of his firing but it was pure politics. The principal recomended him back for another year but the director of schools at the time had a long standing grudge against him and pressured the school board to fire him anyway. That's the cliff notes version of what happened.
  20. I want to be the first to get on here and congratulate the Lady Cougars of Campbell County on the inagural volleyball season. They really came together as a team and won more games than a rookie team is expected to. They finished third in the district JV tournament. The team had no seniors and only three juniors. They look to have a bright volleyball future.
  21. they are even better this year than they were last. Next year several players will have to step up by I'm confidant they are up to the task.
  22. Ask bearden's quarterback how har they hit. Oscar Byrge laid his tired ole butt out Friday night. The Four Horsemen are all hard hitters. Chris Johnson must be a pretty hard hitter considering he broke some poor kid from Sevier County's neck last season ( I really hope he recovered well from that). You probably haven't even seen them play.
  23. I guess I'll have to prove JKar right and say two time Associated Press Player of the week for Tennessee 5A football--Campbell COunty's Chris Johnson.
  24. Wow what a shock JKar is here to try to discourage the Cougar faithful again. Not only do I think that Campbell County will beat Science Hill, I think shut out number five is a distinct possibility. The Cougar defense is on fire and I see the trend continuing. I also look for Johnson to have his first 300 yard game.
  25. Hey Marlow email me at perfctpatp@aol.com and we'll make plans for the trip to JC. Sounds like we are getting the 9-0 team back together for this trip. I don't know if the tailgating would be legal but the stadium is city owned as far as I know.
