  1. Not a CAK guy or gal, from Cumberland Co. I am a fan of both schools there, I lean heavily towards CCHS, but I have a lot of respect for and admire the coaches and players at both schools, especially since I played for many of your coaches when they were on the west end of the county. I also follow almost all the teams east of murfreesboro pretty closely. And Ron, you may not want to mention roids and stone. Kind of a touchy subject. They had a coach get fired and sued for selling them to a player last year. Cat, I hope I didn't misspell and words this time. God help me if I hit a "d" instead of a "g".
  2. Wrong again, I am pretty aware of how they have been historically, I have friends that live there, but thanks for assuming wrong though. Oh and I have seen them play quite a few times when they were in the old district. I never said one time they were historically bad, I am pretty aware of their previous record. But that is enough about them. This is a stone/cak stread, good luck to the boys in black and gold, maybe they will prove me wrong.
  3. good post except for the part about cumberland county. We havent looked bad yet, we've looked alright. 1-1 after two weeks isnt bad but could definately be better. week one at marion was a tough one to lose. we had a lot of kids playing banged up and it was terryl's first week in pads so we were kinda limited. we looked pretty good last week though. the starting defense was stifling and a lot of the yardage meigs acquired can on the backups. as for offensively that game could have easily been in the 50's. the starting backfield and part of the defense sat half the third and all of the fourth. As for the other teams in the district, What the heck is happening in warren co? I thought they were supposed to be alright this season. As for coffee, its sad to hear about the parent coach issues at coffee co. I just dont understand what makes a parent think they can do junk like that. We will learn a lot about cooke and white co this friday night.
  4. I too think it is a good win for stone. However the opinion on LA is not ignorant. Being ignorant requires a lack of information. I have information. Therefore, not Ignorant. Disagreeable yes, but other than york and cannon county there are no easy games on their schedule that they would be the favorite in imho. We both know that Stone should have won by a bit more, but due to turnovers it stayed close. I originally said Stone is not as good as the class of this league, and I stick by that statement especially with breeden being out. In no way did I say stone was a bad team. This could possibly be the best team that stone has ever had. I would not be surprised at all to see them around the .500 mark. As for the la game, was the LA win good for stone? Yes, they managed to find a way to win despite turnovers, but they cannot afford to make those same mistakes against the likes of CAK, Loudon, and Alcoa. They do not have the talent that these other teams do. Until they prove themselves against one of the top tier teams of this league, I have no reason to believe they are one of the top tier teams.
  5. very interesting game. I know its early but this could be a good indicator of how the district race shakes out. Historically you would think that cookeville has the advantage and they have played some good competition this year, but white county always has good athletes and a few big plays could sway the result. I predict a cookeville victory by 17-21 pts.
  6. Not trying to knock stone, just stating the wins against la and york are not as noteworthy as they would have been a season before. York probably wont win a game this season and LA will be pressed to win 2 games. I hope stone continues to improve and get better, and with the amount of support and the coaching staff they have they should be getting better. Any coach watt team will focus on a run first offense and this year is no exception. They have a first year starter at qb. Dishman used to be a wr and he is very athletic, but I dont think he has ever played varsity qb before this season. They do have a couple nice rbs though and their offensive line is definately much better than it was last season. They have the same problem that all cumberland county athletic teams have: they lack athletecism. They can be out athleted and in a game with another solid fundamental and well coached team they are usually at a disadvantage.
  7. Stone has got better and they are 2-0, but not enough to compete with the class of this district. There two wins are against york and LA. York is awful this year. They have been beaten by 36pts both games and LA is really yound and inexperienced. Neither team is close to the level they were at last year. Cak has too much talent and athleticism for stone. Cak will win by 28+
  8. After seeing both of them play us, I think seqouyah is a better team. They made fewer mistakes when we played. Meigs defense isnt nearly as good as sequoyah's either. If we wanted we could have put up a lot more last week. What is the status of the meigs player that got hurt in the 4th quarter? Good luck to both teams though.
  9. Well it looks like this one goes to Marion Co 22 13. Too many mistakes by the jets to come out on top. I was unable to make the trip so if anyone has some insight, the more details the better.
  10. they werent the only team playing possum at a jamboree...
  11. I dont know about the 50, but he runs a 40 in the low to mid 4.6 sec. He did that at every camp he was at this year except one where he pulled a groin. He is a good athlete and a tough runner. Howard is just as fast or faster and they have another kid wallace that is in the high 4.5 sec range. This team has improved a lot. More than anything this game will come down to what cumberland county line shows up. If they are dominant like in their first two scrimages there is no way cumberland loses. If they dont show up then this game could go the other way. I am confident that cumberland has the athletes to win this year though. If everyone is healthy and the line shows up this should be a cchs win by atleast 10pts.
  12. will marion county have an internet broadcast of the game
  13. 430 next wednesday at lenoir citu and then the jamboree is at wartburg friday and saturday
  14. Scrimaged South Doyle tonight. 4-2 CCHS. Each team had one big play for a score. The others were all down and distance scores. Cumberland is still without terryl and it looked like wesley lewis and tyler howard are still a litte dinged up. No major injuris for either team during the scrimage. Steven ran the offense well. It wouldnt surprise me to see him line up a t qb some during the season. Through the air and on the ground cchs moved the ball virtually at will. If they continue to build and grow this team could be a darkhorse in the district...
  15. I know that coach stiles and partin had some differences in opinion but that is healthy. and yes i am aware that some of the coaches never played football before. i know the two you are talking about and one is pretty much a statistician. coach allen is the other one.
  16. you are wrong about pappy. dont wanna go into details because that is his private business but health was the overwhelming reason why he is not back. And as for his assistants he has a couple of good ones in Brown and Mac. I bet they are just yes men that have no clue or guts about them either do they. Coach Davis would have been a good pickup too if stone would have released him. I know he was not successful as a hc over at stone, but coach davis is a fantastic motivator and a guy that you cant help but like so much you bust your tail for him. Coach allen is not a very good coach but he has never claimed to be the czar of football knowldge. He is willing to learn and tries to implement what coach partin tells him. Like i said earlier its hard to get anything accomplished with five conductors in a band. BTW do you have any idea as to how hard it is to get a football coach to come to cumberland county? Unless they want to work for free the staff has to fill a teaching position of need. Currently there is english, calculus and some home-ec classes that are available. How many football coaches do you know that are certified in those areas. Coach allen teaches english or otherwise he wouldnt be here. Coach partin, brown, and mac hold down the three teachin g position usually resereved for coaches(sp-ed, social studies and p.e.)....
  17. 1. Warren 2. Cookeville 3.Cumberland/Coffee 5.White Cumberland County (6-4)(2-2) Marion 24 CCHS 20 Meigs 14 CCHS 38 Livingston 21 CCHS 27 Cookeville 31 CCHS 17 York 7 CCHS 14 Warren 24 CCHS 13 Stone 7 CCHS 21 Coffee 10 CCHS 14 Kingston 21 CCHS 20 White 14 CCHS 28 I would be shock ed to see cchs lost to MEIGS STONE or WHITE. York Coffee Kingston Marion and Livingston are virtual tossups that I think we have a real good shot at 3 of 5 may be optimistic but I think with this group of kids it very doable. We have picked up two really good linebackers that werent around last year and some other kids have really matured nicely.
  18. Stiles did not leave because of partin, he left for health concerns. Also, as far as partin goes I think his controlling attitude is exactly what is needed from a head coach. If a head coach lets his assistants do what they want then it is no longer his program. A head coach coaches the assistants and should control them so that his plan can be implemented, if not then the head coach has no purpose in being there. When I played for coach shultz that was a problem that he encountered. I remember his first year him having an assistant that told me to my face that he didnt give a crap what coach shultz said, that he was my position coach and as long as he was the coach at that position what he said goes. I told him I would do what my head coach told me to do and if he had a problem with it take it up with the big man. That is what Partin's control eliminates. I commend Partin for being a good leader and a good head coach. I really like coach shultz as a person and a coach. You are right he did face a lot of difficult challenges. He unfortunately failed to overcome his enourmous challenges. His coaching staff was small and always changing, alot of them didnt agree with him and were insubordinate IMHO and most of his coaches were not suited or experienced enough in county systems to be very effective. But he is not the coach here anymore so we should support partin until he no longer holds the head job here, which hopefully will not be for a long time.
  19. This is just my .02, but as a lifelong Cumberland Countyian and athlete, there are few places that it would be more difficult to win. The current staff seems to be a an upgrade over the last group. The OL coach, Mac and Partin are all upgrades over the previous group. I think their best asset is they are all good teachers as well as x and o type of guys. I think the current staff is doing a nice job with the resources they have but they encounter a few roadblocks that have always killed CCHS football Lack of Player development. We have one of the worst feeder systems ever. This is a time when kids should be learning solid fundamentals and be developing in an offense and defense similar to what they are going to be using in high school. All the elementary school system does is showcase which school has the most physically mature kids. This causes an extreme burden on this specific high school because resources are greatly limited. With that type of feeder system a huge emphesis needs to be placed on player development where the first two years of hs need to be based on fundamentals, learning, and athletic development, (S, S&C). However with only four or five coaches total on a staff this is simply impossible. IMO, I do not think this team will ever be consistantly successful without either an organized middle school team or a large (10-14) man staff. So, yeah I think this coaching staff is doing a good job. Out of 10 games last year we were competetive in all but one or two and we very easily could have been a 6-4 or 7-3 team. Compared to before that is a vast improvement...
  20. The thrower situation has already been overly discussed in another thread and as a result it was shut down. please lets have some civility and respect for the kid and his family, and keep this thread from being locked. He acted out and was punished, can we please leave it there? Nitro, is the kid that wore 11 returning this season? I watched the cumberland/warren game again last night and was impressed by him. His change of pace from 20 was tough to deal with. I am really excited to see if we can beat you guys this year. I know the last games have been 20pts plus, but the give aways and mistakes have really crippled us the last two years. for the first 20mins of the cchs/wch game last year cchs was the better team and then four straight turnovers and two easy touchdowns later a 5pt lead turns into a 20pt defecit. the year before we had it inside the 5 with 1st and goal three times and scored 0pts. you would have to think that eventually some of those problems would be straightened out. I think we have a few new wrinkles that could solve the redzone problems though.....
  21. Ever since its inception, I have been against this rule. It never made any sense to me to have an athlete take two weeks off in the middle of the summer. Having an athlete take a couple weeks off is in no way a bad thing but the timing of this period is the problem I have. The administration at each school should have the authority to select the dates that the dead period comes in effect. They can then base the strength and conditioning program around those dates and utilize the dead period as their active rest period. I guess that could hurt vacationers, but with many programs coaches have a built in amount of time that players can miss without being punished anyways. If you are allowed 4 absenses in the summer and you lift 4 days a week then you have up to a 10 day vacation free from punishment. Dead periods good, but timing bad
  22. Cody Robinson, is a good player, but I dont think he is so dominant that he will carry the team on his back and lead them single handedly to the title. Remember there are plenty of other big strong players in this league that can hold him in check most of the game. He isnt fast enough to run you down, he will be schemed for by the likes of partin, joslin, and nunley, and with so many teams already knowing about him he wont surprise anybody. I know the Cumberland County Line is pretty big and has some pretty strong players and so does Coffee County. Cookeville always seems to have a way to nullify a team's better players and will scheme to chip and chop him and double if necessary to help against him. I remember when I played Cookeville how difficult them made my life and I was as big and strong as Cody. Unfortunately for us taller guys, the 6foot tall 260-280 pound guys that this league has always been loaded with tend to get leverage on us if we arent extremely careful, and in the game I saw Cody play in he tended to play a little high. However, I do too believe that WC wins it all because they have enough overall talent and balance to win 3 of 4 district games. It wouldn't surprise me to see the winner of the district go 3-1 this season. I think it will go like this WCHS 3-1 L to Coffee, CHS 3-1 L to Warren, CCHS 2-2 L to Cookeville and Warren, CCCHS Loss to Cookeville and Cumberland, WCHS 0-4
