  1. The fact is, he don't even know what he is talking about moonshiner. He is just a college kid that is still green behind the ears. Someone must me helping him out with his posts because he was barely alive when Dirkson played, so he knows nothing of that era. In fact, he knows nothing of football period. He thinks he does. All he knows is the sun rises and sets over Trousdale County and everything else requires him to wear blinders. It's ok, one day he will wake up to what's going on in the world around him and he will eventually be a little smarter for it. But for now, he is going to get on here and post things like Chicken County just to pee off his elders. lol. Honestly, some of it is getting old, and he has got a fish on his line with me.
  2. No you really haven't. I would be surprised if it were to happen as SC isn't known for running up the score on anybody. And to be honest with you, LA should know that from the past. Having said that, I would just like to see some improvement and a win, even by one point.
  3. He may not make every little junior's mom and dad happy. Is he supposed to? His technigues on the football field and in the school do create winning results, yes that's for sure, but you really trying to take a shot at the man's integrity? Really? Do you know him? Have you played for him? Did he teach you in school? If he and his staff were hard on your son, showed him how to win, while still teaching him life's lessons, would that be so bad? I can tell you SC football is not easy, and neither is life. Win or lose, to play SC football, it ain't easy. If kids are looking for an extracurricular activity that is peaches and cream, it's not SC football. It's not for everybody. Having said that, Maynord is just the head coach. SC football is so much bigger than Jimmy Maynord. He just happens to be the one to get a lot of the credit being the head coach. He don't win anything without the support. SC has from top to bottom, one of the best coaching staffs in the state. I know that, as well as many other people outside of SC. The results on the field start with those fine guys. They are the ones that are with their players, on their butts, teaching them, coaching them and disciplining them. Don't forget about the QB club, that bust their tail giving their very own coaches and players so many opportunities and to continue upgrading the facilites that a small college would be jealous of. Then don't forget about the "parents" that you spoke about. They make sure their kid is there and turn their kids over to the school to learn and to the coaches to learn and trust that these men will mold their kids into anything positive when they are not with them. It would be easy to sit over there on the other side of the river and think of 1,000 reasons why Gordonsvile gets their butt whipped ever year. You could use the size of the school, it's all in the head, SC gets more than Gville, the head coach is a dictator, we had to play the referees too, etc. I am not calling Gordonsville or anybody associated with that program losers, but that is what loser's do. I know those coaches and kids on the other side of the river surely don't use those excuxes. But if they did, I can tell you where it comes from. It would come from the people on thie message board, who can't see 5 feet in front of them. Wake up! The sooner you realize that it's not what SC is doing, but rather about what you are or are not doing. I am by no means suggesting that SC has the best football programs in the state, but it wouldn't be a bad place to want to be in my opinion. As for game and for Gordonsville, I didn't get to witness it live. I heard it was a good game and an awesome atmosphere, an atmosphere that I hope these kids don't take for granted because I can almost assure both schools that they won't have one this big for the rest of the season. I read on coachT all of the posts before I watched the game, so I had an idea. I will say two things about the game and then I will leave it to people to bash me for my words. #1 Gordonsville has a great football team. They have a chance to honestly win another gold football, they really do. They will get better as the year goes on too. SC fans will hear it even more when they win another gold football, because it could happen. But #2, and how ironic that is, there are discipline issues in Blue Tiger country. Maybe after this week, that will be ironed out, and when they do win or don't win that gold ball, they can do it with a little more discipline. That one word believe it or not, was the difference in the football game. That one word is what ties into the SC staff (school and football staff,) the QB club and the parents of every SC football player. As a fan of SC football, it was refreshing to see that discipline won that football game. So many people will never understand how much that one word means to a football program. So congratulations to the kids of Smith County High School for the win and for winning that way when all you have heard on here is how much better athletes this school had or how much experience this school had, or how much more strong this team was over the another, when in the end, it came down to discipline. Some live it, and some underestimate it. I know it hurts to hear it for some, but just remember, it's just one high school football fan's opinion.
  4. Obviously, I don't know as much about the situation as I thought I did. First off, I know nothing about a kid from Upperman that might be playing at Gordonsville, but I did hear some about the one that is attending SC. I am all too aware of the rule (and so are the coaches at SC) that you speak of as I went from one school to another while I was in high school playing sports. I don't know of the situation to be as you are saying it is, and because of that, I don't know of a waiver rule that must be applied for. However, I do know if a kid attends one school while living in one county, as long as the kid moves (and yes doesn't still live part time in the other county) to another county he can attend school there and participate in sports after he is deemed eligible from the TSSAA of course. I think your saying that one or possibly both of the kids already live in Smith County? If that is the case, some people may not be aware of that. Besides, is Putnam County not like Smith County? Do you not have to live in Putnam County to attend a school in Putnam County? If not, I wouldn't like that if I was a resident of Putnam County and I was paying taxes for a kid to attend school when his parents didn't have to pay for him by paying taxes in another county.
  5. Streak only came about in the last couple of years? If your a "past tiger" then surely you know about the 26 game streak once upon a time. Yeah if your referring to this streak, I guess it came about in 1999. As for this game, this year, I do think there is a possibilty that "this could be the year." Most years, I hear that, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking. "yeah they could win as anybody could beat anybody on any given day, but it's probably not going to happen because of a several reasons." But yeah, this year, I think the Kitties have a better than usual shot at winning. Of course, there have been other years when I thought the streak would end and the Owls came out on top and more convincing that I had anticipated. All streaks come to an end eventually. And one day (maybe this year) the current streak will come to an end. If you were to ask a betting expert, he would tell you to "always bet on the streak, to never think eventually the other team will snap the streak, to always bet with the streak." Obviously, I'm not betting on the game, but I definitely share that philosophy. What stinks is this is the first Smith County/Gordonsville game that I have missed since 1999. And I am sure that I am going to miss a good one. The positive thing about it, if the game doesn't go in SC's favor, I won't have to live that historic celebration. My prediction... Smith County - 27 Gordonsville - 20
  6. You know about as much about Football as you do scorekeeping. Needless to say, that is not saying a lot. Gordonsville may win, Smith County will not win every single year, or shouuldn't. But, I don't even live in Smith County like yourself and I get tired of hearing "this is the year!" Talk is so over-rated. Having said that, I have to say Smith County wins even with a young and inexperienced team.
  7. I'm out of the loop...who is Coach Johnson Queen?
  8. Thanks for all the help. Guess I will need to try to get off by 5:45 and hope the traffic leaving Nashville toward Clarksville isn't bad...lol. Rain! oh no...SC's John Elway of 2010 may need to run more than pass Guess them coaches better change the gameplan.
  9. So kickoff is at 7:30 for sure? Good, I might make kick after all! I thought it was 7. For anyone that knows, how long will it take me to get to Ashland City from Cookeville. Get off at 6, will I make it in time?
  10. Not getting to see the Jamboree after the inclement weather cancelled was a bummer. Hated that the powder puff game didn't happen too...that was gonna be ugly...right bigreid!!!
  11. I got to admit...when I heard a couple of weeks ago that Macon County was going to hire Mark Pemberton, I horse-laughed at the guy that told me that. For two reasons 1) hard to see Pemberton coaching at a place like Macon County where they have so many political issues and 2) because he could probably take a better job (because of his reputation, resume and coaching abilities) where he could win more frequently at rather than in Lafayette. However, on the other hand, it is cool to see those kids get the opportunity that they are about to get, and that is to be coached up by a very good coach. I know Coach Pemberton very well. I played for him for two years my junior and senior years where he was the offensive coordinator and was also my position coach. He is a great coach to say the least. He is stern but fair. He can teach the game of football, as well as lessons used in life. He is a winner. If the people in Macon County let his guy run their football program like he knows how, they will be a contender right away and will stay that way as long as the kids can handle his style. I know I hope he wins when he doesn't play the team I watch, and I have never wanted Macon County to win. Fact: Macon County very well may lose the title "one year wonders" after a couple of seasons under Pemberton.
  12. Good, I hope by them resloping the fields it will allow the Owls to be able to play at home this year when it rains. If not, guess they will have to install some drains.
  13. I understand what some people are saying. I think 90% of the head coaches in the state of Tennessee could win state championships at Alcoa the last 6 years and in the future. That I will not argue. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Having said that, unless my memory is failing me, Riverdale was not the powerhouse until about 1990. Enter Gary Rankin and staff. However, I don't know if Murfreesboro was zoned at the time or not, but that was before siegel and Blackman were built for sure, which did allow for a lot of exceptionally gifted athletes in the 'boro to play football for the Warriors. Again, not arguing that point either. I never played for Rankin, but I do know him well and I can tell you that the talent he has coached is enough to make a lot of coaches sick, but I can tell you that has nothing to do with the fact that he is still one of the best football coaches out there, and on top of that, he always surrounds himself with a very capable staff.
  14. Hey there reaction!!! Good luck to Bucs this year. Also congratulations to the Smith County Baseball team for making it to the finals of their bracket in the HS Baseball State Championship. Now the football team will gladly welcome those guys back.
  15. Regardless if you call it loyal or not, most people heard that your 'state funded' stadium was condemned and that their were no bleachers (only 1 set to begin with) to sit on. Again that is no excuse, just like it is no excuse that you don't have a good place to sit to equal $8 dollars to get in and the $50 it would cost to drive to no man's land and back. So, it's best to leave that whole topic alone IMO because you all should be as embarrased as any SC fan for not making the trip.
  16. Should be a great one this Friday night. Unlike some previous posts that I have read, I think this game is decided by 1 score, and that it will come down to the end either way. Both teams are playing to their full potential right now. The winner gets to host Milan. Smith County - 23 York Institute - 21
  17. No he wasn't too bad. In fact, he threw the deep ball as good as I have seen in high school.
  18. Poondexter will read this post and I'm sure he can find out who this guy is....and talk to him....but you know you can't control all the fans...We heard from a group of kids at the pep rally yesterday there was one SC fan who was quite distrubing....something about a flag was thrown as on the scoreboard end of the field and the SC fan jumped up and screamed at the kids "We'll take that"....they were near the horn blower and thought the horn was getting to him pretty bad....crazy fans...sounds like as the game went on the kids were screaming we"ll take that along with a few parents. Funny stuff!!! I wonder who that was you were referring to. I can tell you now, the story you were told is inaccurate. It was the guy with the stupid horn that started it by saying "We will take it!", and no kids were yelled at, only the guy that was blowing the horn in peoples' ears less than 10 feet away. The only part about your story that involved kids is when they joined in with the adults standing next to them. Nothing was said to high school kids, let's get that straight as I just happen to be familiar with this deal.
  19. I just want to note that if someone has the " swine flu" for 24 hrs,,, then it isnt the swine flu... Like the "regular" flu. swine flu lasts 7 to 10 days and a person feels like " crap" most of those days.. Any " flu" thats lasts only 24 hrs is a mere "bug'... just ask all these kids in Smith Co that have had the "real" swine or regular flu!!! Please excuse my ignorance.
  20. Yeah I know.... great stuff, like the DNJ said Cannon County often falls behind early....spotted dekalb 35 points ...... and then played the second half . Maybe we will be ready when the 1st half starts Friday night in the mud hole or train whistle heck......what ever you call that place.... Don't act like you and the rest of the Cannon County faithful don't know what happens when one team is up 35 points. IT'S THE INFAMOUS MERCY RULE! Normally, the other team goes ahead and gets some younger players in and they turn to a conservative approach to keep from running up the score and getting key players hurt. You have no argument with that .
  21. Swine flu normally lasts about 24 hours, so all of them should be fine by mid week at the latest. I hear that Cannon is improved and a legitimate contender. Of course I hear that every year. But this time, it doesn't come from the Lion faithful, so I will choose my words carefully unitl I see it for myself. Having said that, I can't help but predict the Owls as district champs. SC - 28 CC - 13
  22. Obviously, the road goes through Alcoa, but how many are actually "Blount County boys?"
  23. I agree T, I have listened to a couple Owl games this year, last night being one. JW is hard to follow. Go from talking about a golf shot he made, to oh what just happened TC? Sounded like though from what I could gather the Owls played a really great ball game though. Congrats to them and the coaches on a good win. The Owls did play pretty well...but not near their potential. Still made some critical errors...fumble at their own 10...56 yd. td pass with less than a minute in the half...several delay of game and procedure penalties. Those mistakes were overcome against a very good WH team. I like what I'm seeing with this bunch. They find ways to win. They are beginning to lay some licks I didn't see earlier in the season. I think our coaching staff has done a phenominal job improving this team. And I amazed at how those freshman played last night on the O line blocking mammoths on the D line, and especially since this staff doesn't like to play Freshman. Just kidding CPA. I said preseason, and really up til a few weeks ago, that this was one of the weakest SC teams overall that I had seen in the last 10 or so years in SC. The last two games they have really played well and I definitely don't feel that is the case anymore regardless of how their season plays out. You don't beat that White House team last night while making mistakes without being a darn good football team. Scurlock is a playmaker, and will be something to watch for the next couple of years. Hackett has really stepped up his game this year to fill a big void at SS in the place of Anderson. Last night proved that. I see why Brandon Johnston is the QB in the family after dropping a pick six (LOL.) and on the hand, his brother Joshua made one of heck of a catch on a fade route going up and getting and still keeping that one foot in. Brandon is really threading the needle. And like I just mentioned, these Frosh have gotten better throughout the year and are providing depth and showing a glimpse of what to expect in the years to come. Many more bright spots, but those are to name a few, especially the coaches which I thought had a phenominal gameplan on both sides of the ball last night. If, If, If, they can continue to improve and correct mistakes, they can be very competitive in the playoffs. Good win Owls. Get ready for Cannon and preparing to claim the District Championship? One more thing...how did this team lose to Westmoreland? And...isn't that the only game Westy has one? Wow if so.
