  1. Region4fan, the only thing I have said personal about U is that his EGO got in the way of playing younger players in a 42-0 blowout. If that offended Coach U, I do appologize and then would recommend that he see a dermentolgoist to get some thicker skin. By the way, don't you think U should be watching film instead of reading our post? I think that time would be more productive. Not one kid on that team was questioning what U was doing until last Friday night. He created that problem, not this board. Kid's aren't stupid. As far as last years team, we went as far as we were capable, we may of had too may stars, but we sure didn't have too may cheifs. In 29 years we have had 5 head coaches, the first had coached for several years and wanted to slow down, the second coach lasted two years and quit because of his wife's health problems, the third coach lasted nineteen years and was tired of coaching, which I think any middle aged man can understand. The forth, was loose cannon when he came here, we all knew he wouldn't be here long. I would hope the fifth would last at least 10 to 15 years, but who knows? Maybe you know something that the rest of us don't know, I didn't know he was under any pressure here? I know the JCHS fans don't like to lose but other than Friday night, I have heard no rummblings. I would assume that some parents are upset that their kids aren't playing, which you can look to the sidelines and see the bench seems to be getting smaller every week. However, I know of no pressure being put on him.
  2. IDIOTS! Most likely, I can't speak for everyone, but I need all the prayers I can get, thanks. INSANE, absolutely! I don't know of anyone bashing anyone personally except you. I agree, parents and fans need to act like adults and should not act that way at the games. However, as long as we chat about football and not the coaches personally, I don't see the harm. Men fought & died so that we could have free speech, but in today's times we must remain politically correct. Even if something is wrong, we must find a positive spin. The sky is always blue here on Fantacy Island. My last post was nothing but positive. If you find that what everybody said about last nights game offensive, maybe you should grow up. As a fellow christian, I do take offense to "pray for every one of these idiots". I know you probably didn't mean to sound that harsh, but at all cost, when you bring my Lord & Savior in sentence, do it with reverence, not anger.
  3. No need to JC4life. As a team, we played our worst game. I actually thought Coach U did a good job right up until the 2 point conversion. I'm not even going to chat about that, I would hate to loose my breakfast. The Karns coach had a good game plan, tie up the clock, and they did. Our defense didn't play as well as they had in the past, maybe a little unprepared for the Karns offense. On Offense, Shivy shined, which is normal, our QB needed to make some plays and didn't. I would think that the second string QB should get some work this week. With a heavy heart, I must say, JC 6-0, Coach U 3-3. As for the Oakland 2001 post, say what? Someone else said something about the fans, I agree completely, as fans, we are united for the team, bad sportsmanship has no place in athletics. Message boards are completely a different subject, this is a place that we can rant and rave over every detail. I would hope that Coach U is telling the players to stay off this site. Other than Urey during the DB week, I don't remember another player joining us. Finale thought, a tough loss, we will recover. Hopefully, this will make us better.
  4. Did someone say I didn't know anything about football. Based on memory, you let a blitzing team thru the line with little or no resistence on a middle screen and dump it over their heads. The quarterback, does however, have to make an athletic play. The play was developed to slow down blitzes. JC made a living on those things in the eighties. The side screens don't work because the longer throw allows the CB to make the tackle behind the line of scrimmage. This is evidenced by what we have done all year. DB was begging for the middle screen the entire second half. If we had completed a couple of those middle screens, DB would have stopped the blitzing. As for Ben, I thought we dropped that subject a few weeks ago. I am behind whoever is at QB. Coach U's job to TEACH him how to pull these plays off. Ben virtually has no experience at QB, he needs to work with him more on the passing mechanics as well as his drop. I understand that Ben's is a hard worker and coachable, if so, teaching him how to throw should be easy.
  5. Had you read all my post, you would have seen in the last sentence that I gave him credit for hiring good asst. and bringing disipline back to the program. Guy's I don't think he's a bad coach or a bad guy. We are 3-2, we should be 5-0. Lawyer said that I don't know anything about football, he may very well be right, however, had lawyer been watching the game at Rhea Co. and DB, he would have seen that we did not change with the game, ie passing game. Pewitt showed that he can throw the ball against CC, he should have passed more. Blitzes, anyone that has ever played football knows about middle screens and utah passes, both of which could have slowed down the blitzes. Normally, if you beat the blitz a couple of times, the opposing team will stop blitzing. I think we have played well enough to win those two games, we didn't. Why, because Coach U was not prepared to do things that put his team in position to win. Oakland 2001 gets my goat when he says how lucky we are to get Coach U. JC football is one of the best programs in the state, year end and year out. Oakland 2001, you have it backwards, Coach U is lucky that JC hired him. Coach U didn't do us any favors by coming here. Do you really think that U came to JC for the pay? I think not. It's not a secret that JC football is recognized through out the state. As I have said repeatadly, we always have state playoff tallent.
  6. Well I'm glad everyone is reading the boards, I think we have just about heard from everyone on my last post with the exception of Barnyard. Why are we patting ourselves on the back telling each other how good we are, when we are 3-2 We lost to the only good teams we played. Based on the post from the DB people, they played the worst game of the year against us. Lets face the facts, we played well enough on defense and run offense to win both of those games. Smoot has brought out one of the best defenses ever at JC, if not the best. Coach U may be a great guy, he may be good at hiring assistants but has failed the team in game plan. I don't think he has to throw the ball every down, but add something to put the team in the position to win. As I said earlier, I wasn't a Meadows fan, but he would have won the three games that we have also won and maybe put something together to win the games we lost. IF MEADOWS WOULD HAVE HAD SMOOT AS DEFENSE COOR. LAST YEAR, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN STATE CHAMPIONS. Someone said earlier in the week that things had gotten boring on line, not anymore. I have no bad feelings against Coach U, I'm sure he's a nice. But please, have we ever had this good of defense, which I'm told that he doesn't coach defense at all. How many Shivy have rolled thru JC as Soph. Did he teach Shivy how to do what he does, if so, he should be in the NFL. We have all agreed that the O-line has gotten much better and that most of Shivy's yards are after the line of scrimmage. All I'm saying is give credit were credit is due. Coach U has hired good asst. and has brought disipline to our program. Hugs & kisses
  7. Oakland2001, We are 3-2, our defense, offensive line, punter, and All AMERICAN Shivy have given us the opportunity to be 5-0. Coach U is a one trick pony, he does not understand the passing game. I was not a meadows fan, I don't know how he would do with this team, but what ever you can say about meadows, he was a winner and he did know how to run an offense. Don't get sidetracted, Meadows would have done as well as U. If Meadows & Smoot teamed up, we win the state. If we are going to pat on any backs it should be Smoot & Anderson. Coach U has done well because of the programs he has coached at, as I have said forever, we always have state playoff tallent at JCHS. I have a feeling the same holds true at Oakland. MAKE NO MISTAKE, I HAVE SEEN ALL THE GAMES, WE SHOULD BE 5-0. Give credit were credit is do. By the way, has William Blount ever been any good? One last thing, you said that he hasn't put in all the offense, we only run about 7 or 8 different plays, I thinks our boys are capable of running a few new ones, I don't think U knows anything else.
  8. We shouldn't go into any game unprepared. Our defense and Shivy have had outstanding games all year, I hope we don't overlook anyone because we think we are GREAT. Coach U should concentrate on execution on offense and Smoot should work on schemes, be very business like in approach. We can't stumble the rest of the year. We certainly don't want to drop a loss because we loose focus, creating a difficult first game in the playoff. JCHS Goals Rushing yards 225 Passing yards 100 Karns Rushing 50 Karns Passing 50 Penalty Yards under 50 3rd down conversions 50% Passing comp/attempts 10/15 Work 2nd string in with starters throughout the game. These guys need playing time. Coach U looks a little like Meadows in that we don't look to the future.
  9. I agree totally, instead of padding stats we should have worked on the passing game and GAINING EXPERIENCE for the second team. The 1st strings should not have even been dressed for the second half. This would have been a golden opportunity gain experience for the young guys as well as provide motivation. How can the guys on the bench get motivated to practice hard when they know they aren't going to get on the field. Why risk someone getting hurt! Does anyone remember what happen to Bo Massey his senior year. Holland put him in right field in a blow out and he got hurt. Shivy has enough ability to get his stats in the games that count. I have a hard time seeing that TEAM concept that Coach U is always talking about, unless TEAM means puffing his EGO!
  10. Your watching to much gameday lee corsco, Coach U will try to pad stats for his #1 QB and work on the passing game. However, Reliford will have a good game around the goal line. I look for him to take it to the house as JCHS takes CCHS to the woodshed. Who are we kidding, all the pats will have career days against the fighting cocksman. Legends are made in games like these. Yeary, Smiley, Blair, Luther & Co. will pitch a shutput. The third team D may give up a cheap touchdown late in the game. Our friend Luther, even though we don't hear his name alot has been the key to a great defense. He has shut it down downtown.
  11. DAFAN'S PREDICTION- Shivy rushes for 125 yards in the 1st half. Pewitt completes 10 of 22 for 95 yards, three of the 10 beyond the line of scrimmage. JC defense gives up cheap TD in the 4th. Break-thru game for Husky, rushes for 100 yards in the 2nd half. Final score JCHS 31 CCHS 10 (field goal on turnover)
  12. Good question budyroo, I think the jury is still out. Coach U has brought disipline to a program that in the last two years has had none. The best thing he has done while at JCHS is hire coach Smoot. We have the best defense we have had in years, with less than great tallent (2 all staters last year). Our good defense has masked alot of offensive problems. We haven't played well coming from behind, It's like, what do we do now? I have a major problem with this kick off coverage, I fear that we will give either major field postition or long returns ie West. The kick off coverage is somewhat "bush league". For someone who is so conservative on offense be so liberal in the kicking game. Based on the other post, he has problem dealing with the players. I'm both a christian and a former Pat, I want every kid that wants to play to play, good and bad, smart and average. So he may personal issues dealing with either parents or kids. I sure hope not. As I have said before, JC always has the tallent to win.

Good one JC4life, Lets keep the smack going.

Make no mistake about it, JC has state playoff tallent every year, regardless who's calling the signals. As for your statement about DB, give me a break, if they are the most tallented team in the state, we CAN be state champions. We give our two losses away. We got out coached in our two losses. Coach U lack of knowledge of the passing game has killed us twice. Case in point, Coach Smoot, he had his defense ready, they were prepared. Our offense was not! Did Coach U really think he was going to win @ DB being a one trick pony? DB was not effective passing in the 1st half so they ran the 2nd half. DB completely shut Shivy down in the second half. Why? The coaches made adjustments. I hate to lose, especially if the result was coaching blunders. We can run the ball down the throats of the remaining teams and win, however, if we face DB, OR etc. in the playoffs, coach U will have to make personel changes or change the scheme.

Barnyardpat, I think I have figured you out. Regardless of what others have said, I see some merit in your statements. We may very well win out, due to the fact the rest of schedule doesn't look very strong. However, based on what I seen Thursday night, we won't travel far in the state. At this point, the QB position is the weakest on the field for the Pats. I don't know about your motivation, but mine are crystal clear, to advance in the state, we must have an effective passing game, and we don't. Can anyone else on the team throw the ball? Maybe move Crouch to QB, at least we could take advantage of some speed at that position. We should face the facts. In Coach U's present offense, Hopkins can hand the ball off. My question, why are we trying to win at BULLY ball when the whole world knows you have to throw SOME OF THE TIME? We can travel far in the state if we can be successfull thowing ball at least 20% of the time. Look foward to questions and comments. Oh, by the way, I was very proud of the "animals" that showed up in Kingsport.

Thanks HeathHelton for sharing Coach U's thoughts. Coach Grade's Coach Smoot- A+++++, great job! The guys tackled well, covered well and rushed well. We seem to be in all the right places. The defense gave us the opportunity to win. I would think Coach Smoot won't be with us long. He has to be getting alot of attention from other schools. Coach U- C-, Most teams beat blitzs with middle screens and draws. We seemed unprepared on offense. THe first half we kept drives going because of DB penalties. We have a major 3rd and long problem. Shivy & Reliford are a great tandem and will have bigger numbers if we can take the heat off them. We were given a golden opportunity to win last night. The players played well enough to win, but like Rhea Co., we were out coached. DB made major changes in the second half, why didn't we? Does anyone know the penalty stats?
  17. While you are smoking your pipe thinking about it indian tackle, I'm gonna to make another tackle!
  18. My being an overzealous fan makes me talk crazy! I want JC to beat the stuffing out of DB. My point in all this maddness, I hope we forget about all the grades, girl problems etc. come focused on football. But beleive me when I tell you that "smarts' & "tallent" are mutually exclusive. Just because you are smart doesn't make you a good ball player or vis versa. When in the trenches, you want to play with warriors and people with tallent. UT football is living proof, they recruit tallent with enough smarts to pass. Your point was well taken.
  19. JCPATRIOTFAN, I am glad you set me strait on all my ideas. Manning, maybe the greatest player ever, is a great football player because he has tallent, his football head came from his Dad. His 4.0 does not make the thows. his athletic ability does.adership is good in weight room and he practice field, but game time, you need a player with tallent. Speaking of Parker, do you remember the option pitch last year against OR. The 4.0 didn't help much. Parker, however, was a good player, not because he was smart, but because he had tallent! The same with jennings. Best of my memory, Scooter carried the load last year. If we hope to win @ DB based on IQ's instead of athletic ability, our high school sports system is in bad shape.
  20. Good kids may be elected as class officers, Mr. Jefferson Co High etc. but they want help us win Thursday night. We should hope that the bus load of kids that travel to DB are not good kids, we want the beast to come out! Make no mistake, football is not a game for good kids or smart kids either, we need animals. We had better not travel to Kingsport and show off our ACT scores, we will add another Loss to our record. Popularity is good thing if you are running for office, not for winning respect from the guy across the line from you.
  21. I am neither A- Drew, B- Drew's Dad or C Drew's Momma. I must say I have been suprised that #2 hasn't seen more playing time @ QB. If you go back to the Rhea Co game, #2 started and did as well as did # 17. With 3 min left in the game and we needed someone to come in and air it out, Coach U puts # 17 in the game to hand it off for the 1st 2 downs, as we have seen all year, 3rd and long is not very pretty. The loss to Rhea County can be put squarely on the back of coach U. He did not put the players out their to have the best chance to win. He will have to live with that loss. But Coach U sees something in # 17 and if you live by the sword, so shall you die.I wonder what's going to happen if DB puts nine in the box and snuffs the run out. I assume DB has seen the game films and seen how West couldn't tackle at the line of scrimmage. I think we are kidding ourselves when we think that our running game is going to win a state championship if we can't throw with any kind of consistancy. So with all this being said, if I was #2 or any other number on the team, I would want to play, especially if I new I could help the team. This was probably a good move for # 2 ( baseball career) and a bad move for the team. I think Coach U wasted tallent that could help this team. Putting # 2 at corner or WR would be like putting Brett Farve @ linebacker, he may be able to play the position but his tallent is elsewhere. WHATS UP WITH OUR KICK OFF scheme? I hope we don't try that stuff with DB! That kind of stuff should be left in PEE WEE's. Clowns have their place, circus. GO PATS!
