  1. Moore didn't walk. He is still on staff as the OC. He didn't want to be the head coach after he realized what all being the head coach actually meant, he just wanted to be in charge.
  2. Was Lawrence County approved or denied?
  3. Because the talent is there. Look at Marshall and Giles County. Two similar programs that are awful without the proper coaches and pretty darn good with quality coaches.
  4. Talent hides a lot of issues. Emmons came into the best collection of talent at SH in at least 10-12 years if not longer. With that he managed to finish in 4th place and 3rd place in the region. He benefited from a very weak sister region in the playoffs, as two years in a row the region swept in the first round. Emmons was a weak HC and the administration and fans had no reason to see anymore of the same. The staff would have to be fools no to see the same, my assumption is that they agreed with the consensus and we're thus branded traitors instead of liars. As to why Martin? Simply put, if he were to get the job he would put those kids 1st. Taking the job in the first place would likely mean him leaving a job that pays way more than he could make in the school system. I don't know many who would be willing to do that.
  5. Purple75gold is spot on. There is a real culture problem with the team and I don't think that was being addressed. Not sure that Coach E was up to the challenge of changing. He will land on his feet elsewhere fairly soon and I wish him the best. I don't buy him being forced out by assistants one bit. I can see them seeing the bigger issues not being addressed and having frustrations with that. I've been around this school off and on for decades and these families that control things from Boo's perspective simply don't exist, or else if they do I somehow have no idea who they are after all these years. And yes, Ben Martin is the right man for the job. If given the support from the parents and administration he we be very successful.
  6. I'll have to agree. Spring Hill is getting things going in the right direction and both coaching staffs have done a very good job this season. It will be enjoyable to watch two similairly matched, well coached football teams on Friday. This is exactly what you want to see as a high school football fan. There is no love lost between the two teams, yet both teams seem to stay respectful. I anticipate a very good game. I'll would give Spring Hill and the revenge factor an edge, however I think it may be negated by the game being at Page. I expect a great crowd on both sides and a close game. SH 31 Page 24
  7. You must learn to ignore BOO. He knows not of what he speaks. As someone who has seen his fair share of Spring Hill games his antics wear thin pretty quickly with me. As Tuna suggested, we can all be fans of our respective schools without speaking ill of other programs. And for the record, Coach Emmons is going nowhere. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. -Abraham Lincoln
  8. According to multiple reports, Howard Stone is no longer the HC of the Columbia Central Lions. Former Mt. Pleasant HC and current DC Jason Hoath with assume interim duties as spring practice starts Monday.
  9. Howard Stone is out at the HC of Columbia Central.
  10. I have heard that Tom Turchetta was released of his coaching duties? Can anyone confirm?
  11. Good Luck to Coach Turchetta and the Raiders!
  12. Agree that Mt. Pleasant is a much better job when it comes to talent and physical size. If a coach wants to consitantly make the playoffs and have a chance for state titles Mt. Pleasant would be preferable over Spring Hill now and in the foreseeable future.
  13. Prayers go out for Coach McAdams and his family during these times. I'm sure he will battle this with the same class and dignity he leads his program with. Well wishes Coach McAdams.
  14. I believe they are waiting out of respect for Mt. Pleasant. I don't think they want the loss of their football coach to be any distracton to the boys on the team as they try to win a state title. This is purely speculation on my part.
  15. Very keen insight in regards to Roy Vick. Some people didn't like him (mostly those who were lazy or didn't do their jobs) but he knew how to run a school. Aaron Hoath (Jason's brother) is not a certified teacher. He is a volunteer assitant and a heck of a good one at that. His work at Central with there strength and conditioning cannot be overlooked in their success. His is incredibly passionate (borderline insane ) and the kids love him. He will no doubt follow Jason if he gets the job. The lack of multi sport athletes is more on the kids than the school. It is that way nationwide. Baseball, basketball, and football are year around sports and require year around commitments. Coach Lamb (baseball) has no issue with his kids playing football and I know in the past he has even encouraged some to do so. Coach Young (basketball) not so much, but if a kid wants to play football he certainly will not tell them no. He will however let them know it could effect there playing time because of missed practices etc. etc.
  16. I have no hard information to go by. I believe Jason Hoath will end up with the job. Although there are more experienced and more qualified candiates I feel that Principal Callahan will attempt to "redeem" himself with this hire. Richard is very near to retiring and football has taken a very deep decline under his tenure. This does not sit well with him even though some could argue that he is ultimately to blame. That being said he is and always has been big on hiring alumni. Not only is Jason Hoath the "biggest" name for Spring Hill fans he is probably the most popular of the candidates as well. If Jason comes in and does well over the next 10 years Callahan can feel very good about what will be his last football coaching hire. And if Jason does not do well Spring Hill people will have a hard time blaming Mr. Callahan for making the hire. Jason makes the most sense for Richard to hire because it is a win-win regardless of the outcome.
  17. Interviews have started. Jason interviewed Wednesday two weeks ago.
  18. As I have stated I think anyone of these men would make for a successful hire. I was asked to expand on percieved shortcomings and I will admit that there are few. I know coaches who have great things to say about both Tom and Richard. Likewise there are those who don't care for them as well. This is typically the case with most everyone. However those that do like them will admit to them possesing the quailties that I mentioned. I don't nessecarily view theses traits to be negative. Give me a guy who knows his stuff and what he wants to do anyday. There is no doubt that both Tom and Richard are very confidant and borderline arrogant, but most good ones are right? All I am saying is that this has a tendancy to rub some people the wrong way. And sometimes some people are just overly sensitive. Spring Hill would do well to have any of the aformentioned coaches. I'm not sure they could do much worse.
  19. Not an expert...just my informed opinion Coach Winston. What is it that you question?
  20. I will be glad to expound on my percieved short comings of each candidate. Let me preface it by saying once again that all of the men are excellent coaches and would make for a good hire. Tom Turchetta- Certainly the most experienced coach with an extensive college background. He has accomplished a lot and is certainly in the twilight of his career. One must question how much longer he plans on being in the profession. He has not been at anyone place for very long. Many coaches feel he is very difficult to work with as he is not interested in anyone else opinions or ideas. Former players have also stated a disconnect between Coach Turchetta and the players as well. This being said he could provide a short term solution (3-4 years) but one thing this program is in dire need of is a little consistancy and continuity. Richard Herzog- Excellent defensive mind and certaintly knowns the school and district (Page). Like Turchetta can be said to have a contentious personality. Offensively he is a wing-t guy and given the talent year in and year out at Spring Hill I cannot see the wing-t finding success with the lack of line talent that Spring Hill has. In addition there are reasons he has not held many head coaching positions. Jason Hoath- Most notible shortcoming is obviously experience. No doubt Coach Hoath has the passion and work ethic to be succesful. Mt. Pleasant seemed to run to many schemes at times last year to their detriment. This is often the case with young coaches and I am sure he will learn this as well. That being said he did a lot of the coaching himself. You can get away with this when you have 30-45 players but not with 80-100. He will have to rely/find more capable assistants if it is to work at Spring Hill. Spring Hill must be able to weather some "on the job" training and mistakes that come with a young coach. Steve Ackley- Coach Ackley and Coach Hoath graduated in the same class at Spring Hill. Both outstanding players and friends. Background on Ackley is this: Spring Hill's MVP his senior year, one year post graduate at Hargrave Military Academy co- captain. Four year stater at Liberty University. His is currently an assistant coach and assistant athletic director at Liberty Christain Academy the largest evangelical private and third largest private school in the U.S. During his tenure at LCA they have won multiple state titles most recently back to back championships. Ackley's shortcomings are the same as Hoath's. Lack of head coaching experience is the first. Although he has served under remarkable head coaches with outstanding success he has not been the head guy yet. His temperment is a little more even kill than Hoath's which may make him more suited as a head coach.
  21. Tom Turchetta, Richard Herzog, and Jason Hoath are all good candidates, certainly an upgrade. I am also hearing the possibilty of Steve Ackley. All of them have their shortcomings but Spring Hill would do well to have any of them.
  22. Spring Hill looking for a new head coach: http://columbiadailyherald.com/sections/sports/pro/scharsch-out-raiders%E2%80%99-football-coach.html
  23. Word from several sources is that Scharsh was relieved of his coaching duties on Friday.
  24. Raiderball, I don't know what would give you the impression that I am not a parent. A parent of a player may be waht you are suggesting? I don't believe you have to be a parent to see what is going on. However, as a parent there is NO WAY I could or would in good judgement let my child play for Coach Scharsch. Being a football coach, especially a high school football coach, is much more than winning football games. This is my major concern and has been clearly (or so I thought) pointed out. Not only is Coach Scharsch lacking in the abilty to get the most from his players on the field, he is an EXTREMELY poor example for how to conduct oneself off the field. My concern is not the wins and losses as much as it is about the kids. They deserve better! I imagine that you do not cuss and yell at your own children the way Scharsch does with his players. As a parent and a coach, I always try to keep in mind that this is someones child. Am I treating them in the same way that I would want someone else to treat my child? The obscence language and rageful screaming is immature and self depricating in addition to being incredibly ineffective. Simple put yelling at someone is not coaching. And that is what I want for these kids, a coach, not someone parading as one.
  25. As many poster have pointed out, this football team (I would like to say program, but the word does not fit) is in complete disarray. It is an embarrassment to both the school and community. People are correct in their assessments of both the baseball and basketball programs. Both Coach Lamb and Coach Young are excellent coaches who demand the best from their players both on and off the field. RaiderBall: The respective head coaches are responsible for the budgets and uniforms for their respective programs. Coach Young chooses to have JV wear their practice jerseys and traditionally has and they usually do have warm-up gear. 66in74: I must agree, why would you not play him now? What are you waiting for? And yes the HC does NOT ride the bus. This gives you a little insight as to how things are "run". And I will not post the reasons why, but one is left only to guess the reasons why an adult would prefer to drive their own vehicle to and from games.
