  1. Try this link to a Google map: http://local.google.com/maps?spn=0.320553,...+TN+37066&hl=en Hope that helps. Go War Eagles!!
  2. Thanks hlfan - I bet it was nice to see the opposing team get a bunch of penalties after the past couple of years of constant questionable flags on us War Eagles! I wish I could have seen Kyle Graham's big run, but unfortunately I tend to melt out in the rain. It sounds like Austin Lohin did great as QB. I hope he continues & doesn't get the big head like our previous QB. Keep it up War Eagles!!
  3. Was this win against Marshall Co as dramatic as the previous 2 wins? Any information on this game would be appreciated.
  4. People crack me up how they take everything on the Internet as dead serious & don't take sarcasm (i.e. the All-American RB) into account. Mo Polk is gone, but don't count out Kyle Graham gaining confidence & Jem Moore busting through & blocking as the season progresses. The War Eagles will learn from their mistakes & rise up because they have the talent & most importantly, the heart to keep going until they prevail!
  5. Victory is sweet! I'm really sorry I didn't drive down to see it in person, but from what I heard on the radio, I am so proud of this War Eagle team - especially the seniors. You guys deserved a good ending to this tumultuous season, and I am happy that your season ended just like in the movies! Mo Polk had a super night & he made a lot of people proud! Garza is always amazing. Jem Moore, Jake Vaughn & Willie Vanderford all stepped up big on defense - for that matter, everyone on the defense stepped it up. This was an extremely important game for a lot of us, and I know Coach Tharp is just as proud of this War Eagle team as he would have been if he were still our coach. A big congratulations goes out to Coach Halstead and the rest of the staff for an exciting season.
  6. If I recall, Sycamore generally plays Greenbrier the week after Page, so yes, Garza has been banged around a bit. It's a big game - it's homecoming. I think Sycamore will remember the magic they had when they beat Marshall Co last year in another big game with lots of ceremony, senior night. These guys are tough. Plus there's some feelings of revenge after last year's playoffs. It will definitely be an exciting game.
  7. Once again, you are wrong. Representatives from the county commission visited Cheatham's & Sycamore's pep rallies today to let everyone know there will NOT be cuts to any of the coaching supplements.
  8. Marshall County - I am counting on you guys to beat the Page Plague. Just know there will be a lot of people from a certain little place in Cheatham County who will be sending y'all some good vibrations Monday night.
  9. Coach Barry, Come back to Cheatham County & run for the school board. Heck, I'd even vote across party lines & vote for you for President after reading your statement. That was right on! It's a shame you have moved away - you are missed! After listening to the school board meeting Monday night, my eyes have been opened wide, and I am sorry that I never knew about the way things worked in Cheatham County. Being from a small town myself, I am not surprised at the lengths these people will go. However, I care way too much about these kids, this senior class in particular, to see their dreams of walking across the field or the gym on Senior Night shattered by egos. I just do not understand how this board could not even WANT to take pride in the successes of the athletes in this county - Josh Garza may represent our school next year at Harvard, for the love of Mike! This is a county with a long history of the importance of athletics in schools - just ask Pat Head Summit. I apologize for bringing up the W issue, but my bleeding heart took over. Barry's right - this is about leadership, but on the local level. From the response from the public, I don't think things are going to continue down the same path for much longer...at least I hope so. Francis, I don't want to jinx anything, but we are going to kick your can all the way back down to Louisiana!
  10. I believe the energy czar (or tsar) position was awarded as a 1st runner-up to the interim director of schools prize. To the idiot above this post, who was in the White House when we were attacked on our own soil by terrorists?!? Your buddy, W, that's who. Did you know that Bill Clinton prevented at least 3 Al-Qaida attacks that would have been just as devastating as 9/11 during his 8 years in office? Your opinion on the importance of high school athletics is naive - they are extremely important for all the many reasons given in this thread. Iheartwerdup, Sycamore sports are still happening & let's hope they kick some Montgomery Central tail Friday night (if the moat doesn't flood!)!
  11. It may be grant money, but I can't think of a better example of how money is wasted in Cheatham County Schools. Hey guys from other districts - does your school system have someone from the central office who goes around from school to school to find ways to conserve energy?? That is oh so much more important than funding the athletic dept.
  12. Would you consider the newly made-up central office energy chairman position that sucked 15K from the budget as wasteful? I think not.
  13. Oh my god - this has nothing to do with gay marriage - how ridiculous. NCLB may have been a Democratic idea, but the funding was cut by the Republican administration. How are schools supposed to implement all of these NCLB mandates with no federal funding which was promised to school systems for that purpose? This situation really has more to do with small town politics than anything else. El Ray, I'm shocked to see your stance on the "stand-in" director. From what I've heard, she's been really good to the El Ray family lately.
  14. This whole issue shows why it is SO IMPORTANT to get George W Bush out of office!! Funding from NCLB?!? You must be joking. Republicans want to destroy public schools with vouchers funded by taxpayers to send kids to a school run by Enron or Halliburton, making a profit for them. I have the upmost respect for every coach in Cheatham County. I am proud to be a part of the Cheatham County school system because of the people who live there & send their children to us to guide them through life. I am especially proud of Coach Halstead for speaking up. He is a first-class individual who seriously cares about his players. He is not going to have to walk out because the citizens of Cheatham County will band together to support them & will ensure it is still football time in Cheatham County. There was an interesting story on the news tonight about a $500,000 donation to Metro Nashville Schools from a private non-profit group called the Nashville Alliance for Public Education. Why not try to start a non-profit group for athletics statewide? We do have 3 professional sports teams in our state - I think they would be more than happy to donate money to support high school athletics. Let these stupid small town politicians fight & we will find people who will fund a lot more than $9000 to our athletic programs. Fight the power!
  15. I have heard that there is a commissioner from Pleasant View who is anti-tax, but he would support the wheel tax increase as long as NONE of it went towards education. What is wrong with someone who doesn't want to fund education? I do not live in Cheatham County, so I cannot vote for these people; however, I teach the kids in this county - the majority of my students are involved in some sort of athletics or the band, and these are the most important individuals at the heart of the matter. Some of my best students are athletes. I have known these seniors for 4 years, and I know what a big part football, basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, softball, volleyball, cheerleading, soccer and marching band play in their lives. It is a real shame that small town politics will spoil the dreams of these kids. I care too much about losing some of my best students to keep quiet about this. I hope to be a part of a big crowd protesting this ridiculous proposal.
  16. I really don't want to think this has anything to do with the new director - she has a daughter who coaches soccer, and I seriously doubt she would honestly want to remove all athletics from our schools. I have no idea how much she makes. I think this has more to do with the county commission and/or certain school board members.
  17. I noticed every Cheatham Co. team lost tonight. Not giving any excuses or any disrespect to the 3 opponents, but how are these teams supposed to be motivated to play with so many crazy emotions going through their heads? We are talking about teenagers here. Sycamore, Cheatham & Harpeth, it's time to put aside the rivalries and band together. Just think about this - what will we all do for homecoming this year if there are no football games?
  18. It is a sad, disgusting joke that this cut would even be discussed as a way to make up this debt. These coaching assistants work their tails off for chump change as it is. The amount of time they spend, in addition to the regular school day, is a truly admirable thing. It is extremely disrespectful to these people to view their contribution to the children of Cheatham County as an unnecessary expense. I think we should get Phil Williams from Newschannel 5 to investigate exactly what caused this huge debt, besides paying off a former employee. It's not like our schools in Cheatham County are the most up-to-date technology wise, so where did all this money really go? I am a proud member of the Sycamore family, and I will be heartbroken if I do not get to see Maurice Polk, Josh Garza, Justin McCain, Jake Vaughn, and the other seniors be recognized for their achievements on Senior Night. This is grossly unfair to all of the athletes, students, coaches, teachers, and the members of all the communities in Cheatham County. If the school board cannot learn how to count (maybe they should have to pass a Gateway Algebra exam before they are able to serve), they should not take it out on something that is so important to hundreds of kids. I feel as if we all should not show up to school on Tuesday if this budget "solution" passes Monday night - strength in numbers!! I just have to say to the guy from NW TN - don't blame the NEA for this. That is so ridiculous - the NEA didn't tell our school board how to blow our budget. If there are any political reasons for this, I would point out the NCLB act which has been enforced but never fully funded from the current administration.
