  1. Why call it Baylor JV? If you're burning one of your 18 varsity dates, then call it Baylor, that's "Baylor". The people at the event will recognize that the first line-up is not present. So, good enough. Calling it Baylor JV while using a varsity date seems a little insecure to me. Are you afraid that someone out there might confuse this? Are your uniforms different? What's up with that? For you Baylor JV guys who are busting your tails, your coaches want the world to know that you are their JV, just in case you don't measure up. This protects them in case one or two souls out there might be confused. Pffft! Boo.
  2. Don't forget Coach Ryan Cooper, Ooltewah's assistant. He is the grease in the axle of the Ooltewah team. What a work horse. He and Weathers seem to work very well together, and a great partnership at that.
  3. You burned the popcorn! I smelled it just before the varsity got started. It's so true. Visibility was about 6' around the concession stand. You were in there from 6:00 to 7:00. I was concerned that the sprinklers were going to activate. Smoke was everywhere, and people were gagging! Oh well, great environment, lots of people, great tradition at B. Central, crowd was really into it. Go Bears!

  5. You cannot wrestle in more than three two-day tournaments. But this is not a problem anymore. In the past, two-day tournaments were the thing, but most teams today prefer the turbo type one-day tournaments. I cannot imagine any team having a problem with this two-day tournament rule. The TSSAA allows a maximum of 20 dates per year. Duals and tournaments apply. A two-day tournament accounts for two dates. Some teams fill their schedules with nothing but tri's and quads and maximize the 20 dates with these multiple matches. Others look to minimize their match time in preparation for the end of year and will prefer more practice time. Who knows what is the best preparation for the end-of-year. It is good stuff to ponder.
  6. Tullahoma has committed to the Ooltewah Tournament
  7. You seem excited about the season wrestlerbk160. Sold!!! Count me in. I'm on the Golden Eagle bandwagon.
  8. Red Bank, too much excitement and tons of winning tradition. This is the year.
  9. Papa Smurf. You gotta start with him.
  10. Well put, Jakesdad. These are the healthful arguements that transpire in the great sport of wrestling, and it is great we have these debates. Unfortunately, these kinds of topics are the things that hurt the sport. No other sport has these issues. It's so rigid. I guess, my point is, with these rigid rules, coaches need to know that kids can be affected, so they need to over-react by getting them there way to early so as to avoid predicuments and such strict enforcement. This thread was started with excuses. Avoid problems with preventive maintenance. Then kids will not be affected. I agree with your thinking. There should be common sense to bust hard line rules, but sometimes there are ramifications that come about by making concessions that open the "can of worms".
  11. yea, I'm with you brother. If I knew how to pull quotes off this thing, I am referring to Jakesdad's last quotes. But we still do have hydration issues in TN. The wrestlers certify hydrated at the beginning of the season. That does not mean that they do not grow and become worrysome about making weight at the last minute when they become careless days before. The problem is, many wrestlers become careless as days encroach, and they find themselves busting many pounds off in mere hours before competition. That's fine and it is really not my point. I'm all about the kids. If a coach makes a mistake, then why punish the kids, right? But look at the slippery slope. Say, it is o.k., you guys made the wrong turn and the lady (which I know who she is, she likes to make people go around, because she likes it. It empowers her, and she gets off on that. Lets say, it has been a long time for her, if you know what I mean.) made you go around, you can come and weigh-in, because of your misfortunes. Then that loosens the standards. Now, there are grey areas to be abused later. What I mean is, someone could use this concession and add to it in another case down the road. This sounds rigid, and as a conservative, I can't believe I am sounding like this, because I can't stand hard-core bureaucracy stands, but without this kind of line-in the sand drawing, were does it end? Please reply, Jakesdad. Thanks for your input.
  12. Think about it. The strict adherence to the weigh-in time rule has been put into place because of the possibility of an athlete sweating water off before weigh-ins. And as we all know, that has had its problems in the past. You know, there have been athletes who have died. If you make concessions here or there in the name of the wrestler who does not deserve this, then you are opening a can of worms. Then that becomes the new standard for others to work from. You know, if we give here, then it will be give a little more next time because you gave here. It's hard. There has to be a line drawn. The hard fact of the matter is, for something the magnitude as this, the blame is in the coach. Sorry! Come on! I was there an hour before the weigh-ins. All other teams were already there, in town or out of town. That is, a full hour before. You plan ahead and leave extra early with anticipation for the wrong turn, or ten wrong turns, or the bad weather, or the heavy traffic, etc. You know, "for the children". There is too much of an entitlement mentality here. Look in the mirror. As far as security? There was no passes issued until after weigh-ins. The doors were open, all around during the weigh-ins. If some hard-up security person would not let your wrestlers through (and I believe that), then there should have been enough time to deal with it. Bad call, accept it! Leave way early, like the rest of the teams. If Ronnie Carter is supposed to let the wrestlers through because they were late, then who is to really say they were not sweating themselves that last extra tenth of a pound off in the heated truck. I know they wern't, that is not the Seymore way. They have proven themselves above reproach. What a class program!. But others unfortunately are not like Seymore. Unfortunately. Because there is always abuse of rules, lines unfortunately have to be drawn, and I hate bureauracracy lines.
  13. Weigh-in at 7:00 Saturday morning. Begin wrestling at 9:00. Three mats, double elimination. Finals should start around 5:00. Be out by 7:00.

  15. Point blank....The Seniors are not ready to give the season up!!!! Let's show fight and win this game owls!!!!! Tight game but the Owls will come on top!
  16. Ooltewah will fight hard for this win...The Seniors are great players both on and off the field.
  17. Come on. It is hard to communicate with someone who cannot even come close to a first grade language arts level. Are you for real? Is this the best you can do? I like Central High School, but please stop humiliating your school's academics more than you continue to do.
  18. bk012000, Let's see, you are in region 3 and Ooltewah is in region 4. There has never been a tradition set in the Central-Ooltewah match. The only passionate person on this subject seems to be you. Last I checked, there was no more than maybe 150 people to witness your matches. The Ooltewah team seems to be preparing with their minds focused on their region challenges. So what is your passion with this particular match? Understand, the real wrestling community does not really care about this match. Watch, the paper might not even think it worthy to waste ink on the results. And by the way, you said that Ooltewah has never beaten Central. Check last year's score, if anyone even cares.
  19. I think Ooltewah has scheduled McCallie's varsity in wrestling this year.
