  1. Yes, I turned to my buddy and said the exact same thing. Alcoa was bringing the cheese on Huntingdon and selling out for the run. On two of those incompletions players were wide open. One was an underthrow, the other dropped. Both would have been big gainers. I know Huntingdon's coaches probably better than most, and they were very impressed with how physical Alcoa was on the def. line. They found one weak link and exploited the crap out of it to the tune of 42 pts, which I might point out is the most scored on alcoa all year, including Maryville. We got beat because of special teams and def. its that simple. You punt the ball deep to Alcoa and tackle the kid and its game over. You stop the 70 yd drive that set up the field goal and its game over. You make them punt more than once and guess what, its game over. Nobody sitting in the stadium that night would have given the Mustangs a chance when the score was 13 - 0 or 21 - 7, and if you say you would your lying. Alcoa had better athletes on both sides of the ball, they run the ball better, threw the ball better, and their special teams were better, and they almost lost because we had better coaching.
  2. yes, we have several openings at the moment. Stay tuned for more info. I'm hearing all kinds of stuff this morning. I'm starting to kinda put together the puzzle.
  3. It was a classic and I couldn't agree with you more on the 4th and 1 call. Morris outcoached himself. Beating milan at home like that is one that was well overdue. And it still doens't make up for the screwing we got at milan in 94 and the one that cost us another state championship in 98. Your still due a bunch more and now that I know that god is on our side i'm sure that payback is forthcoming.
  4. once again, I agree somewhat, in only that if you are talented with a good coach running the offensive system that he knows then you can be very successful. But...... put a coach with a boat load of talent, zero technique, and no offensive belief system and well, you get one of those teams that other folks wish they could coach. Give me a team with avg to slightly above avg athletes, a coach who knows the in and outs of his system, one who would argue his system versus any for hours on end, one who can spout off blocking assignments for every lineman without ever having to think about it, and that coach will beat the more talented team most of the time. His players will have more confidence. Just look at the successful programs in this state. They stay in an offensive system and teach that system. Thats why here in rural west, tn. we can beat teams with more skilled athletes. We're just smarter.
  5. Well, he's already made an attempt at that immediately after we lost our OC, at least thats what an inside source has told me. Camden does run the wing t and their off. coordinator is a former mustang b-team coach. You never can tell what old iron mike has up his old sleeves. He does reside closer to camden than huntingdon and they say his influence can be felt in the magic valley even today.
  6. What do you mean J/K? Am I missing something? Do you know something about the situation?
  7. If its the players then Mitchell and Carver should have a lock on 2A, and Melrose would kick Maryville's aspirin bottle. I agree somewhat with you, but in my observations i've noticed that good coaches stay with what they know, young coaches and not so good coaches go with the fashionable, whats hip, offenses that supposedly promise the ultimate exploitation of any defense.
  8. Word here at work this morning is we were turned down by a fairly local coach, who shall go nameless, earlier this week. According to a friend of the staff we're interviewing another today. Both being former players i'm sure we'll land one of them.
  9. I think it works well at those places because they are signing qb's to south carolina etc. Their talent base is just a tad bit better than most folks. Maryville also won the state running the wingt if I remember correctly, and back in the 70's they won the state running the option I think. Its just whatever the coach believes in, but in my honest opinion 95 percent of teams in tennessee don't have the folks to run these style offenses and besides that its boring as crap to watch.
  10. And then find you some guys who can catch, a real good qb, and while your at it get a running back or two and prepare to get the crap beat out of you. thumb
  11. I'm still very concerned about our offensive line. Theres going to be a new coach taking that responsibility and at any level of football you're going to see some growing pains, especially early. And early we've got two pretty good ballclubs.
  12. Guaranteed they'll be in the wing t. Guaranteed they'll hit you in the mouth and be physical. Don't know about defense but i'd bet my house you'll see a dang good high school offense on the field. thumb I think me and some buds are going down to see their first game against lewis co. I believe its week 0. Might be a humdinger. Did Hickman co. beat lewis co. last year, if not, whens the last time they did?
  13. They'd better do the wonderful world of squat if they want to develop some lineman.
  14. First two or three ballgames will make or break them. I expect we'll hear something before the end of next week.
  15. OC took a head coaching job in Hickman Co. The O-line coach is going to land in Memphis somewhere. They're not easily replaceable but i'm sure we'll get some good ones. I hear that for us we're willing to offer big money. Coach Mansfield wants a coach that doesn't require him having to do anything. Thats what he said in the paper.
  16. yeh, said he was tired of worrying about state championships all the time.
  17. With all jackpots you must pay taxes. These taxes might be pretty high. thumb
  18. We also lost our offensive line coach.
  19. You are exactly right. Thats why we better find somebody who can step right in and be the OC. From what I gather if we don't the alternative isn't a pretty scenerio.
  20. I can gurantee you one thing in this life and that is Huntingdon will not abandon the wingt under any circumstances. When you think Milan you think "I", when you think Huntingdon its "WingT". Coach Mansfield directly correlates our success against Milan in recent years to our offenses scheme. The answer is for us to find someone familiar with our style of offense. Any coach's out there who runs the wing and would like to coach the two best backs in high school next year need to call Mike Mansfield at Huntingdon High School.
  21. Has anyone heard any news on possible hires yet? No rumor stuff please.
  22. I hope you're right but there are alot of changes going on right now in H'town that are going to have a huge impact on this upcoming campaign and I mean HUGE IMPACT.It will be interesting to see how things play out this summer.
  23. I hope your right, but I have my doubts. We'll know week one.
  24. Have we found an offensive coordinator yet? I'd think they'd be lined up to coach boo and chris. The paper even mentioned that coach wallace may be ditching. Where would he be going?Maybe i'm just paranoid
  25. Does anyone know what time the scrimmage is? I don't expect too much. From what I've heard Huntingdon hasn't really went out that much this spring and didn't go out yesterday. Are they still going to scrimmage or did they call it off?
