  1. Looks to me like rain!! I don't think West will fair as well against Story and Jeff has already shown that they hit better against better pitching than they do against number 4-5 starters. It should be a dogfight all year for the conference lead but I'm sticking with my Patriots.
  2. Your arrogance repels me!!! People don't hate DB because of their success. They hate DB because of condescending fans like you. You have the good fortune to live in an area where the local high school has a rich heritage and some of the best coaches around but yet seem to think that somehow you yourself as a DB fan or alum or whatever has the right to think that you are "better" than someone else. I'm a Jefferson County fan as well and I respect the DB program, but I do not respect the braggadocious self-importance classless fans who think that just because they wear the maroon and white that they are somehow superior. Let your walk do the talk and control those idoiots who, before the season even began, started predicting state championships (ala Halls as well) and putting down other programs. Sure DB is always the biggest hurdle for JCHS and I believe that 'Glove knows that and is just wanting to bring some heat back to the rivalry. To say it's just sour grapes is a figment of your already somewhat bloated and self-important imagination.
  3. 40yearoldvirgin ..? starts a thread on every good thing South Doyle does. If Rob pitches against Ryan, what will the score be? Who wins? Two of the best lefties in the state and it may come down to this at play-off time!!
  4. Jeff spanked a pretty good Gibbs team and their number one pitcher last night 11-3. Story and Evans are still in a funk with their bats--when they wake up, this offense may be as good as last years or better because of more production lower in the order. Belcher and Sherrod have been blistering hot in the first couple of games. Miller and Long have had timely hits. Crouch has got to be the best defensive centerfielder in east TN. He made another unbelievable catch last night and he's always dangerous at the plate. Story looked great pitching against Heritage (1 hitter). I'm more optimistic about this team right now than ever. If they start hitting on all cylinders, the defense gets more consistent, and they develop a bit of a swagger from confidence, I expect big things. Two games, two wins (and not against cellar dwellars), and 20 runs. I hope this is just the beginning.
  5. How about Heritage?? Two games and only one hit--a little squibber that the pitcher, ss, and 2b just missed.
  6. Jeff beat Heritage 9-1 in six innings. They had 12-13 hits, Heritage 1. Story threw the whole game. Underclassmen came through with big hits. I think offense will not be the issue this year with Jeff--as always.
  7. Glove, good point and one that I have made previously. Class is most often learned through the humbling experience of failure. When number 24 goes on to the next level, he'll have the opportunity to flush the arrogance and apply the discipline needed to develop further his God-given talents. I didn't say anyone needed to respect his postings, just his play. Glove, if you are who I think you are, you have shown that you have class that equals your great talent. Keep it that way--gracious in defeat, humble in victory, respectful of your competition.
  8. Jeff Lockwood is a very talented baseball player who has lived up to the pressure he has felt his whole life to be successful at baseball. For that reason alone, he has my respect. On these boards, at times, he has been over the top with some of his comments and I have called him on it and he has apologized. But let me point out one crucial element of all this, at least he has walked the walk and though his words may be at times immature, he has shown a commitment and discipline to baseball that only a handful of high school athletes can identify with. As for me, I wish him well and continued success and will pray that when he is wearing the Big Orange he will be more judicious with his comments. StriperGuy 24, have a great season except for the times you play against the school I root for.
  9. BTW, my selections are for east TN--don't know enough players around the state to make a good judgment.
  10. I had the opportunity to be at Halls and watch Jeff County and Halls play. I think if Jeff County is going to compete, its 3-5 hitters are going to have to be more consistent. Jeff left a lot of runners on the base paths whereas Halls seemed to score anyone who got on. Though the team's success will rely on his pitching, Story needs to step it up at the plate and in the field for Jeff to be as good as they can be. Jeff County still has to jell as a team to compete with teams like Halls day in and day out.
  11. As a whole, I think the IMAC will be down a little this year. The conference lost a lot of good players last year (most to graduation, one to Maryville). I do believe, however, that teams like Mo' West and Jeff County can hold their own with any of the other district frontrunners depending on who is on the mound. Depth at pitching will be the problem for either school when play-off time arrives. Both teams can develop some pitchers during the season but right now depth is lacking. There are individual players who should excel this season. Crouch and Story at JCHS are good examples of all conference players who are still around.
  12. "Offensive" means a combination of OBP, RS, AVG, RBI, SB, SLG%, and SACs. With these in mind, I'll take Trent at DB, Crouch at JC, Zurcher at SD, Lockwood at Halls, and Cannon at PF. Trent for power and hitting the ball hard always Crouch for best combination of power and speed Zurcher for always getting the job done Lockwood for power and the ability to take a walk Cannon for knowledge of game, and overall approach Others mentioned in this thread are great players but are lacking in certain aspects of the whole package. If I had the above listed five players on a travel team, offensively we could compete with anybody (Actually four out of the five are great at their positions defensively. Trent is a great catcher, Crouch covers from gap to gap in center field, Zurcher is a vacuum with range at short, and Cannon can make plays in both the OF and the IF. Not slighting Lockwood, he's good defensively but not in the class in the OF as Cannon or Crouch).
  13. DB always brings out the best . . . . . . and the worst in people. I think they have the Steve "Superior" syndrome. You either love 'em or hate 'em, with most hating them.
  14. Best lefty I've seen in TN, no doubt.
  15. My only comment to this thread is as follows: Farragut has class--always, no doubt about it and no need to get on Coach T to talk trash or get the team hyped. The fact that Halls' Knox area player of the year has run his gums on these boards speaks for itself and Halls as a team. Talented? Yes. But any class? You be the judge. As my dear old dad says, "Real men do not need to brag; only little boys do."
  16. I couldn't agree more. Drove by Sherwood today--empty field where an old stadium once had stood. Nothing happening--no work, no runs, all errors. The Hamblen school system and the city of Morristown should be embarrassed over this one.
  17. From what I'm told, this score means that late in the ballgame, Sevier's first string can beat Jeff's second and third string.
  18. I know several guys who are in college right now playing baseball that would not be there if it were not for playing travel ball and getting the right exposure because of a connected coach. Many high school coaches have limited contacts and some simply coach because there is no one else to do it and have never made the contacts needed to promote a good player. Some travel experience is all about parents' ego, but other teams (especially older age groups) are legit and give exposure that otherwise would not happen.
  19. Pride cometh before a fall. Brag after the fact, not before.
  20. Yeh, just ask Mo'town West how good they are--oh, that's right, West beat them in the scrimmage!
  21. Someone said that Crouch scored from second base on a passed ball the other night--is that true? I don't believe that I've ever heard of that done before.
  22. Your cleverness is the thing of morons!
  23. I know it was only a scrimmage, but JCHS looked like they'll put some runs on the board this year. Beat Seveir like 16-4 or something like that. Those big shoes they have to fill look like they may be filled--just depends. EJ, Belcher, and Sherrod all look like they'll not only contribute but shine. Sherrod looks like he might be that fourth starter we all were conjecturing about. Crouch and Story looked like polished veterans whose confidence will keep this team competitive. Once Taylor fully recovers from injury and Long gets it going coming in from basketball, I think this team will surprise a few folks. It will be interesting to see how the pitching comes together. From what I saw, Story had amazing velocity last night. BTW, McFall never saw the field. I'm not even sure he's on varsity. If they're planing on him "seasoning" for a year on JV, I think it's a good thing.
