  1. I agree about the best games are where you don't know the refs are there....refs should not be the reason for a win or a loss....our team had a terribly reffed game last Friday and then the game Tues was such a remarkable difference it wasn't even funny. Consistency is what it takes....every ref is going to blow a call occassionally but you don't notice it with the good ones as much because of the level of consistency in their calls.....the bad thing is that the good ones seem to be in the minority.
  2. This one is just trying to start stuff for what reason I can't imagine...but whatever rocks his world go for it...
  3. I suppose you're on here again trying to provoke a response from the true Camden fans but I don' think you'll get what you're looking for...at least not from me....all I'm looking for is a good game where everyone plays their hardest....GO LIONS!
  4. You and I will just have to agree to disagree...as far as watching teams across the state I daresay I have seen many more than you....I have been around just a little longer than you....like about 20 years or so and have watched both Middle and West tn ball and I stick to my guns about this...there is not a Riverdale, Maryville, or Lipscomb in West TN and never will be....because overall competition week to week is greater...its not because the talent is not there its because the talent is more evenly divided between all teams....that makes the West tougher in my book cause no team knows that they will absolutely win week in and week out. They know they face a shoot-out every week....there are very few easy weeks anymore and that is becoming more and more true ever year in the west. The west has consistently strong teams like Melrose, some of the Lexington teams, Huntingdon, Milan, USJ and JCM but even those teams know that their competition is good enough to beat them on any given nite....That's something the majority of teams in the other regions can't say with any consistency.
  5. agreed....that's a shame....surely he will be on the coaches all state list if there is any goodness left in HS football....thanks Jackson sun...way to represent
  6. Gold balls are all well and good and in the end what everyone shoots for....but as far as using that as the deciding factor of what region is strongest is IMO very short-sided...the west doesn't have teams that dominate their region year in year out....as far as regular season week to week competition there is no other region that has as many good teams that could win against anyone on any given Friday nite....I know in Middle and East TN there are rivalries and such but you can almost always pick a winner because there are always teams that completely dominate in their division....that for the most part doesn't happen in the west. So how anyone can say that the West is the weakest region just amazes me....the West is stronger because of the lack of domination by any team not weaker.
  7. Well that explains alot doesn't it No press means no picks...I'll be interested in seeing the coaches poll...that will be a truer reflection of talent I think.
  8. When it comes to who means the most to a team and his community(which are the criteria for the award) no one can beat Kevin Ward from Camden...He brought the Lions their first home playoff, then their first 2nd round victory in school history...He rallied a whole county around this team and took an "average" talent team (or so a lot have said ) and turned them into winners and year in /year out contenders for the first time ever. Camden will never be seen as the "cellar dwellers" as they have been known because of he and his staff's leadership. Did I mention he accomplished all this in less than 2 seasons?
  9. I have to agree...I think the refs come in biased for the favored or "more talented team"...we had a classic example Friday nite...neither the girls or the boys from our school were favored to win and the calls were unbelieveablely biased...our girls point(the best player on the team) had 3 fouls in the first 5 min of the game for nothing while meanwhile our girls were getting hammered by the other team....there were 9 and yes I mean 9 charging fouls called against us and none on the other side...it was pretty pathetic...I know they shot 3 times as many free throws as us and in both games they were in the bonus within 10 min of each half....even with all this bad officiating our girls played excellent and pulled out the win...the boys didn't but what could have been close was a blow-out in part because of officiating...I also think the coach influences the refs because the coach has the reputation of riding the refs about calls and they just lay off on that team to avoid the inevitable confrontation. Its sad really....someone will get hurt and then it'll be too late for the TSSAA to do something.
  10. Lionchs...did you notice that this guy just started posting and he sounds suspiciously just like Lionfan1...that is too funny!!!!!!
  11. Sympathy and prayers for the family, fellow players, and for all of Henry co. from Camden. So sorry for your loss.
  12. Sorry Gerry but what did Hillwood or Camden or Huntingdon ever do to you? and since when is Alcoa in your region...if what you say is true then why aren't you supporting your fellow west finalist....this has all gone beyond supporting your team....we've all been on here and have seen it for ourselves....don't act like your feelings are hurt now....that act doesn't wash....maybe the tone of that post was a little harsh but after we have listened to you berate these teams the hard feelings kind of build up....you don't like it???...well now you know how we've all felt.
  13. Sorry Gerry but you had this coming...you have run down so many teams this year for no apparent reason then come back say you're sorry, and do it all over again with a new team or sometimes even with the same team.!!...you may have some knowledge of football but you lose credibility when we watch this same pattern replayed over and over throughout the season...I was beginning to think you had some class but now I see I was premature in my thinking....suk it up Gerry...I have a feeling you'll be eating another size 12 after Friday nite.
  14. Well seems to me if you were that good at either football or basketball especially at the high school level you wouldn't have had to have that kind of size to be successful....look at some of our star players from the past few years they didn't have the size but they were good. So now what is your excuse?
  15. There is no sugar-coating anything...if you look at my posts here and in football I pretty much call a spade a spade....I just don't run good players down for no reason...as far as Bain and Reed go... you obviously didn't watch the same games I did last year....you may speak the TRUTH (your version anyway) but you don't have to run those of down who use CONSTRUCTIVE criticism when we talk about a team or a players potential...from those of us who read your posts it just sounds like sour-grapes ....its hard to take any opinion of your's seriously because of the way you phrase things...You never give props to those who deserve it and if any team or player has any kind of above average talent you run them into the ground the hardest...I don't know maybe you just don't realize the way you sound on your posts but it just makes you sound like a former wannabe that didn't get to play period or one who didn't get to play as much as you thought you deserved to....whichever it is you are making Camden fans sound like a bunch of rednecks without intelligence...so please think before you post.
  16. You are funny....thanks for my laugh for today! thumb
  17. you are pitiful really...please Waverly fans...we don't claim this one...good luck in your game Friday
  18. Yes Tyrone is academically ineligible until Jan if he gets his grades up...I think Leon did a pretty good job though...he handles the ball well and hustles on defense....BTW do you have any idea who Lionfan1 is??....its hard to believe he's a Camden fan the way he talks...gives Camden fans a bad name honestly....he must be a frustrated pine rider from years past or something....always downing the talent...sad really
  19. but anyway...good game to Waverly...it was close in the first half but you took it away after that...Hope your season is good and we'll cya again soon! thumb
  20. Well maybe you got to play in the last few minutes and still feel the frustration...awww ....and thanks for the compliment about them being my boyfriends since I'm 38 ....looks like to me that if you did play ball somewhere you really should have spent a little less time on the court and alot more time in the classroom... its all about spelling and grammar son...I mean really!!...but you obviously didn't play anywhere much or you'd know that they were very good players....get real...if you went to Milan then the Milan fans would really appreciate you not mentioning that ...cause you give Milan a bad name!
  21. These cocky egotistical people that proved you wrong all year????...those people??...you never learn...and yes I would put Markham up against any QB in the state...as far as the region he is the smartest without a doubt and if Camden ran an offense like McKenzie's he'd have numbers to rival Drew or better....and yes Region 6 has been awesome this year...especially compared to your folks in Region 5 right Gerry?...Do I think Alcoa is good or even great....absolutely...we'd all be fools to think otherwise...but do I think they'll overwhelm the poor tired boys from Huntingdon....no way.
  22. Sounds like to me you were one of the players that Reed and Bain stuffed so give us all a break and talk about something you know about...NOTHING...you wish you were half as athletic as they are...so when did you play for Milan???....rode the pine did you??...you must have or else you wouldn't say stupid things about good players....there were other factors that played a large part in the success or lack of success of those two players and Camden fans know exactly what I am talking about....as far as the game went against Waverly I saw something in this year's team that makes me think they will get it together and do better than anyone expects...I wish they played more of an inside game so that it would then open up the outside game for French...I also thought that Leon handles the ball better than anyone has for Camden in several years...the only problem is his height....he went to the basket more than anyone...he'll just have to learn to dish around the taller defenders....Guajardo , Chandler and Williams did an excellent job defensively especially in the first half and Des did an awesome job of getting position in the post he just didn't get the ball much....good effort LIONS lets give Lexington a good game Friday...I'll be in the crowd cheering you on as always!...GO LIONS!
  23. I think Camden will have better break away speed then the past few years but I'm not sure we have the ball handlers to finish the break-aways off . I think on defense since we'll see alot more of Chandler and Guajardo it should be a step up...if Des can handle the heat under the basket we might actually be in pretty good shape...wow I've almost talked myself into changing my opinion of this year's team...I wonder how they will try to handle Ricco tonite?
  24. Sorry....still stuck in football have to get used to the District/region thing again but does Milan not have anything this year??
  25. I agree with you our big men should have played ball somewhere cause it was definitely some college's loss but they just lost their passion for the game...as far as this year's team goes it could go better than expected because they will have to play as a team if they have any success....but one thing I know is that I will be there every game rooting them on regardless because if they can put out the effort then I feel that so should I... they deserve at least that much from the fans. Go Lions!! I'll see ya'll at the game!
