  1. For what it is worth, I was in the end zone fence area and not far form the play. Once the hit was made and players were everywhere, I could see it being difficult to tell what was going on. No one wanted to anyone get hurt and we were all trying to get a vantage point to see that the player was ok. It is very unfortunate when anyone gets hurt and I'm sure the announcer was only doing his job and had no ill intentions and to insinuate such, it's really silly and juvenille. There is pounding on the press box all game long. It would be easy to think that it was in response to the game. Two fine teams played and FCS came out on top. The Hapton program is obviously talented and consistent and I expect them to be a team to contend with next year. My hope is the young man is ok. It is football and hard hits come. It's the nature of the game. However, the game is past and hopefully now we can look forward to a great final game in 1A.
  2. The coach had a game plan and knew they would be in a dog fight. With the injuries, that I saw with my own eyes, who exactly did yo uexpect him to put in at running back. With Temple scoring roughly 40 points a game and having the capacity to score alot of points, what would you have done differently? You don't think that after the 4th quater started that Temple couldn't have mounted a come back?
  3. Can you feel the love for FCS? Interesting perspective to rip on the coach and then the recruiting comment. I'm interested mo$$. What exactly is your tie to football in general? A coach, a trainer? Something like that, right?
  4. any word how the player that had to be carried off for Watertown is doing? It was a great atmosphere for a game. Watertown hosted a great game. While I understand that emotions are high, aren't most of us here adults? Perhaps posting as such in the future would be wise. It is a game and at that game, kids were playing. Nobody there was happy to see anyone get hurt and everyone admired the play of both teams. Watertown got beat but, played very scrappy and that will be the thing that carries them through what appears to be a succesful season. FCS is on a mission, simple as that. All these other things are simply silly and juvenille to say the very least, dissapointing comments for sure. Let's be a better example to those kids giving it all they have on Friday nights. Congrats to FCS on a great win. Continued success to Watertown.
  5. Not entirely. If a wrestler is trained how to bench properly, the strength and control develop in the upper can produce good results in how you lock and strength to move and fight off another wrestler.
  6. I'm not at all downplaying it. My original arguement is, unless you know, then be quiet. Proof for using should be required and I asked simply, how do you know? Do you know? Do you really know that any of these kids were using anything? Like I said, I'm still a firm believer in that you are innocent until otherwise proven guilty. Yes, there are kids out there risking much by using but, I still think there are many that are playing by the rules. What I am not going to do is assume anything. If you feel it is a problem, then by all means, lobby for testing and such but, I'm not going to generalize and make a blanket statement that some of them are using and I know when there is no proof of that. Have you ever been accused of taking steroids? I have. And like your previoius statements, it was assumed. Why? Because I'm a large person...like one of your references. I'm also interested in strength. And, I can move a good amount of weight. Enough so that I've been a world champion in powerlifting. And because of that, folks have assumed that I just had to be using and they just knew it. I have been tested many times and my pride, integrity and my way of life have always lead me to be drug free. So imagine the pain that was associated with being accused of something like this and not having ever done so. These people did not spend the years busting fanny in a gym and eating the right things and supplementing and studying. They simply assumed and because some, a small percentage have done so, then because I met the criteria like in your references, I had to be using. You can believe that no one enjoys integrity being questioned. I certianly didn't and take a great deal of pride that I have managed ot have a long career and did so without drugs. It hurt pretty deeply to have others think of me in that light. Now, think about your statement and imagine 15, 16, 17 year old young men reading it. Imagine how they must feel. All based on some stereotypical garbage and studies by whom? Anyone that has ever worn a jock strap? Unless you are certain and have proof, I stick by my statement, stay quiet.
  7. what kind of lifts for these guys?
  8. is there a results links that lists what grade the wrestler is in?
  9. Nice references I'd be curious as to what your experience with athletes, especially the strength type, actually is. I have been involved in strength athletics all my life. I understand the percentages based on national studies and so forth. The stuff I see in your post is very typical. Very stereotypical even. That is based on real experience and some of that is just BS. I can assure you that my head is not in the sand nor am I turning my head and ignoring the issue. If you have no proof, then the argument is ill fated. That being said, that doesn't mean that there isn't a problem but, I'm not going to point a finger at a kid because they may be muscular, a heavy weight-which is a complete BS statement, or someone interested in becoming stronger. As uch as a problem that there is with performance enhancing drugs, there is as big an issue with knee jerk reactions and speculation that is not based on real knowledge or fact. I'm still of the mind that anyone is innocent until proven otherwise. If the issue is this much of a concern, then by all means, testing should be institued. But, that is a different debate.
  10. Since I have completely hogged this thread, to get back on topic, any of you here familiar with how any of the wrestler's train as far as weight or strength training? Any of you familiar with the facilities some use?
  11. No one is ignoring the issues, certaily not me. My credibility in the strength world relies on my drug free status. What I don't like to see is a general blanket statement that some athletes have to be using and you know that they are. Does that make me sensitive? Please. MLB? If anyone thinks that the steroid issue and otherwise is a new issue, then that's where we all need to open our eyes. HOw baseball became the leading drug sport is beyond me. All sports have had issues with performance enhancing drugs long before now. In the strength world, we are so behind on testing that is literally a joke. That being said, it's still something we need to stay on top of. My entire debate here is that unless you know 100%, then making any type of accusation is simply unfair. Does that mean no one is using? Certainly not.
  12. I don't know many of the wrestlers across the state but, I have had several kids lift in the meets, powerlifting, that I have ran since the 90's. Lots of really storng kids have come through and it would really be interesting to see how strong some of these athletes are in the weight room and otherwise. In the mid-west, they have powerlifting and weightlifting in the schools. It's a shame that here in the south, we are so far behind.
  13. This is a strong statement and, I do not condone the usage of steroids or any performance enhancing drugs but, this is a strong accusation. Unless you have proof, then this was a post better not to have been made. It is silly to assume anything. There are kids out there that are genetically gifted and will look more muscular and more thick simply because of this. To assume anything is not fair. This would bring up the question of testing. Is it coming? I think it will eventually and most likely, sooner than later. But, I hate to see anyone assume anything, especially when it comes to kids. I'd love to see this thread get back to strength as that is something I know a little about. It scares me to think anyone at this age is using and it frightens me even more that there would be adults and, even other kids, simply assuming anything without any proof.
  14. What underclassmen surprised you by placing in the state this year?
