  1. Very proud of the Highlanders. They are playing inspired football right now. They proved to Cosby that last year was a "one hit wonder". In fact, I don't think Cosby will ever beat Cloudland again.
  2. They'll get the chance when they play Hampton. We'll see just how they measure up.
  3. Show me where I stated that. I was responding to ask me who said Hampton's D wasn't tough. No one said Oneida's was not tough. My dad went to the game and said Oneida was very tough on D. Good luck to you against Coalfield. P.S. Do you remember coming to Cloudland in 1991? What was your number?
  4. Hampton has played in 2-A and made the quarterfinals and should have won the state at one time. If I'm not mistaken, Hampton and Cloudland were both powerhouses that year. Its just strange that the higher powers in Elizabethton couldn't schedule Hampton or Cloudland during that time because it would have drawn a huge gate. My opinion is there is not enough money to account for the pride that would be lost in Elizabethton's defeat, and yes the Cyclones would have lost those games. The higher powers at Elizabethton know this and its their worst fear. Its easier to lose to Science Hill and DB, but you would never hear the end of it if you lost to Hampton or Cloudland. With HV, its like you are playing your little brother, because the schools are very similar. I get it. We are just little mountain people and our programs are not worthy to be on the same field that a pro-bowler played on. O.k.
  5. I never said they could beat any of those schools, but I am saying they would handily beat Elizabethton. Happy Valley will struggle with West Greene, a team that Cloudland rushed for over 400 yards on. If you people just admit that Hampton would beat Elizabethton this year, I will go away.
  6. If Hampton's D ain't tough, then whats your excuse for only scoring 12 pts. ?
  7. C'mon Hampton fans. We are pulling hard for the dogs. Don't pick Cloudland to lose. We are the Alliance nine weeks out of ten.
  8. The King is still here, just with a different name. Had to tone it down a little. I'm looking for a good game and very different game this time around. Cloudland should be able to physically challenge Cosby this year. If you want to know the status of the King, he got married three months ago, but he's still working on his traps.
  9. I agree, he was fast, but not tough. The team he has now has no Witten or Byrd like speed and they are soft. Johnson Co. should have a field day running through EHS's backfield making tackles at will and completely controlling the line of scrimmage. The small schools of Carter Co. and this area have risen to the top. The big city has taken a back seat for several years now. I look for that to continue.
  10. Yes, I'm very serious. In fact, you will understand after Friday after Johnson Co. wins big over Elizabethton. In fact most of the single A teams that are ranked in the top 20 would name the score on Elizabethton. Finesse football won't cut it this Friday. Buckle up.
  11. I'm going with Johnson Co. 31-0. Elizabethton hasn't had a physical team since J.W. was on the squad. S.W. was never physical when he played so it will be hard to teach his boys something he could never duplicate himself. Johnson Co. BIG over Elizabethton.
  12. I'm willing to bet everything I have that if Hampton and Oneida meet again the result will be the same. A W for Hampton. Whoo!!
  13. Ask me if Hampton can be beat and I'll say no. Jellico fans can't honestly think that they can play as physical ball as Hampton. Hampton will breeze in this game, 45-0.
  14. NObody from Roan Mt. thinks the Eagles are muffins. In fact it was embarrassing for everyone after the shut out in the rain. Not only did our team get shut out but they played with no heart. It was almost as if they were afraid to get muddy. This years Cloudland team seems to be more scrappy. If they get the best of the Eagles then expect to hear from the Ole King again. The coacht world is anticipating his return.
  15. I hope Hampton dismantles anybody from Region 2. I'm counting on Cloudland to make some noise as well. Don't sell us out on the number 2 slot.
  16. We want you to become a member of the Alliance, but you need to pick Cloudland and Hampton to win every week. Sometimes I pick against my team to motivate them, because they would never think I would pick against them. However this week: Hampton 48 Jellico 0 Johnson County 31 Elizabethton 0 Cloudland 16 Cosby 7 Grace 52 Unaka 0 West Greene 14 Happy Valley 13
  17. I am a Cloudland fan who has played against Oneida, Johnson Co. and Hampton. I will say this, Oneida is not tougher than Johnson Co. Mountain City is as mean and tough a group of ole boys as I've ever seen. But as tough as they are, and I mean this with all my heart, Hampton's line is a wrecking machine. Oneida can't win. Its just not possible. It would be more possible to walk on nails and not draw blood than for Oneida to defeat Hampton. How can you stop a 6'7 360 lb. monster. If you double team him the other all-american lineman will be dancing in your backfield. It don't matter who is running the football, the Hampton line can't be stopped. They will decide this game in the first half. I would bet my life's earnings on it. Hampton will control Oneida.
  18. This is a really big win. Honestly, this game was more critical than anyone could imagine. By the way, the people who have given up on Cloudland were probably not present last night. So for anyone questioning my loyalty, there you have it. The Highlanders are back in mission again, whooooooooo!!
  19. Glad to see some Highlander football last night. Keep playing defense guys. Don't give up anything. Don't let people run the ball up the gut. Get after'um.
  20. If Cloudland can't block Grooms then it will be a long night offensively. It won't be easy to run the ball on Cosby. Cloudland must be able to throw the football to keep them from stacking and blitzing all night. I wouldn't mind seeing Cloudland run a slot screen instead of that quick pass to the wide out. The wide receiver fade worked well even though he dropped the pass in the end zone. I'm glad to see the play book opening up a little bit.
  21. History tells me that Cloudland had 16 winning seasons compared to only 2 losing seasons since the end of 1989. It took Cosby's new coach only one season to build his program solid because his players were hungry and eager to win. You can win every year, athletes or no athletes. Who did we have? Tim Clipse? Its not always about the athletes but the drive. Eye of the tiger, man. I'm preaching it. I've experienced it. Whooo!!
  22. The key will be West Greene's line. I know for a fact that a fiery coach whose had past success can totally rebound a team in one season. The thing I'm expecting to see is an improvement on the line on both sides of the ball. A good coach will not put up with lazy lineman who stand straight up and won't stay with a block. He also will not put up with defensive lineman who won't scrap and get after the ball. You see, you don't have to have all-american running backs to have a good team. You've got to have 11 boys and a coach with the same understanding. If West Greene possesses these qualities, then they will duplicate what Cosby has done the past 2 seasons. West Greene can beat Cloudland. I don't want it to happen, but it may have to happen for everyone to wake up in Roan Mt. and smell the coffee. Cloudland has had 16 winning seasons compared to only 2 losing seasons since 1990. That is proof a program can be good every year. I don't put much stock in rebuilding, JUST RELOADING.
  23. I've not given up, I'm trying to fire these boys up. I'm not going to pet them. I'd rather have them hate me than to settle for being a losing program. I didn't have no differences with players in the weight room. I left the weight room because I felt some players were doing things half way instead of 100 percent. Alot of you guys (and I know most of you and think the world of you even if you hate me) you don't understand unless you've sit back and payed close attention to every detail of the program for the last 16 years. I know times change, but I also know the attitude of a winner has been the same since the beginning of time. I want these guys to get some killer instinct and stand up for themselves. They could have done a lot better last effortwise last friday. Hopefully, they will have the eye of the tiger tonight.
  24. Sometimes I'm in utter disbelief at the dillusion of the Elizabethton fans. They must still be lost in the Witten glory years. Well, those days are over. We are talking about Elizabethton teams that have been beaten on their home field by HV and Unicoi in recent years. Hampton is on a par second to none and anyone who thinks that Hampton would wear down by playing both ways don't understand how tough mountain boys can be. Hampton would beat SH, TH, and would name the score against Elizabethton. I'm willing to bet everything I have on Hampton against any of these schools. I guarantee I'd be a rich man by the end of this season. Whooooooo!!
  25. I hope you guys have a good year. It may be hard for the WG fans to understand where we come from as Lander fans because we were once a great tradition of power. Now that its gone, there is an emptiness in Roan Mt. that has really took the life out of everyone who has ever been associated with this program. I'm not normally this negative, but I'm deeply hurt at the lack of pride and willingness to sacrafice their own bodies to put Cloudland football back on the map. Last week we had several players walking around in street clothes. Thats the difference. Back in Cloudland's glory days, if you could walk, you could play. Just talk to some of the guys that played with 100 degree plus fevers against Oneida back in 91'. Or the guys that tore up shoulders and waited til the end of the season to have surgery. Thats the difference. If there are any Highlanders that read this forum, its time to do a gut check. Do you even care that people are laughing at you? And Cloudland is known now for being a powder puff team instead of the feared reaper on the mountain? West Greene is coming hungry. Teams are getting the eye of the tiger and if Cloudland don't start standing up to these challenges, then rock bottom is coming. Eye of the tiger, man.
