  1. Yeah because we know DB caused McMinn to forfeit. The truth is right now we don't know know anything.
  2. It was actually 2nd and 19. No clue what they were thinking.
  3. That's a grave insult to clowns. That "clock management" at the end of the first half was something I've never seen at any level of football, including the Boys Club.
  4. I get what you guys are saying about the issues with the feeder schools. It’s important, and can make a big difference. That is the foundation of nearly flawless execution, and I’ve watched several Maryville and Alcoa teams win over the years where the athletes didn’t jump out at you but the execution did. This Alcoa team was not one of them though. The difference in the athletes was obvious also.
  5. Lol. About what I expected. You might want to check the stats on Clark not making it to the “final four” also. He did it three times.
  6. Do any of you claiming it’s all coaching think Christian wouldn’t win 9 out of 10 times if he and Rankin swapped rosters? I don’t. I’m not saying he’s just as good a coach (although I do think he’s a good coach), but any difference there would be more than outweighed by the difference in the rosters IMO, which is substantial. On rare occasions DB has had the athletes to contend for a state title, but year in and year out they do not, IMO, and this year is not one of those rare occasions. Hope we can win a couple in the playoffs tho.
  7. Bearden held up its end of the bargain so guess we’ll see what DB can do. SH may have DB’s number but they’re choke city when it comes to closing out a title against a team with a losing record.
  8. Running game was solid as usual but the passing game was crap and the miscues in the kicking game killed us. Obviously the pass defense was poor also.
  9. Totally agree. Not letting them get behind you makes a huge difference.
  10. Ah, one of the great myths of football fandom surfaces again. Fans sitting in the stands or watching from home watch a pass arrive that would have been broken up or intercepted if only the DB had turned his head at the right moment. Frustrating! But those last four words--at the right moment--are really, really important. Because if a DB turns his head too early, even half a second or a second too early, it may lead to disaster--huge separation and a TD if the WR changes direction or speeds up while the DB is looking back, pass interference if the WR slows down and the DB (who can no longer see him) runs into him, etc. And unlike the frustrated fans watching a play develop, a DB chasing a WR can't see the ball being thrown or know when it's going to arrive. That is why most coaches either coach DBs NOT to turn their head when chasing a WR downfield, or to do so only under very specific circumstances. I think most emphasize keying on the WR's hands, and then there is a split on whether to try to time reaching for their hands to break up the catch as the ball arrives without looking back, v. looking back once the DB believes the WR's hands are preparing to make a catch and trying to intercept or break up the pass while looking back. I have no idea what HS coaches around here teach these days, but the notion that if a DB would simply look back for the ball more often it would vastly improve things is false--if anything the opposite is more likely true. There is a reason you often see the same thing (not looking back) in the NFL every Sunday, and it's not because the coaches are all idiots.
  11. Thanks for the streaming info. Looking forward to a great game, and hoping they can get it in before the rain arrives.
  12. Ok thanks. Just saw his name was Good and wondered about the connection.
  13. Am I correct that the Boone AD is the father of Patrick Good, the ETSU bb player who just opted out of playing this year despite the fact that he tested positive for COVID recently and therefore presumably was not at risk of contracting it again himself anytime soon? Just wondering if they may share an unrealistically paranoid view of the COVID situation.
  14. Play calling there near the goal line by OR was . . . curious to say the least. But thanks!
  15. Yeah the audio lags the video by 10-15 seconds, but that's better than the other way around. And the ads are a bit crazy at times, but hey, can't look a gift horse in the mouth I guess, especially during 2020. It's great to see some football again!
  16. Beasley the elder played HS ball in West Va somewhere, and won a couple of Super Bowl rings with the Steelers in the late 70s.
  17. All true except you left out the third Rogers brother, Mickey, a/k/a the Wild Deuce. Stan was a darned good high school player, but was not as good as Phil or Mickey, who were the bell cows. Dennis Wolfe, who played at UT, was one of the other studs, and of course Phil is in the VT Hall of Fame. But they also had some other kids who might not have played at the absolute highest level in college but were devastating in HS. Ricky Begley being perhaps the best example. I think he played at Appy State because he was considered not tall enough by the big schools, but he's still one of the best HS lineman to ever play in this area IMO. What a motor. I don't remember who was covering them for the Times-News back then, but I still remember a great line he penned about Begley after a playoff game: "he's he** when he's well and he ain't ever sick." I'm sure he borrowed that from someone, but it was the truth! Lol the board software edits "he**" to "heck," which messed up my quote.
  18. A kid like that is going to play whenever he shows up whether he missed a bunch of practice or not. And with them pushing the start off classes to at least August 17 he still has some more time if he needs it.
  19. No. VHSL has said that if a kid goes to another state and plays in the fall he will be ineligible to play at a VHSL school in the spring.
  20. Maryville was excellent on both sides of the ball, as expected. But dang, that kicking game may be their undoing against a team more capable of going toe to toe with them on offense and defense. What the heck is up with that? I mean that might have made sense if we had Willie Gault back there or something, but we don't. And that punt after the first possession . . . yikes. Of course I guess the punter doesn't exactly get many opportunities either, lol. Still, a very impressive team, and good luck moving forward Rebs.
