1. I didn't take time to readd all the post so I don't know if this girl has been mentioned or not but Kate Lowe from SHS is awesome. She doesn't even play like a freshman. She has been a big asset to SHS as point guard. She can play against anybody and never seems to tire, she has finished in double figures a few times. She can steal the ball , and her defense is very intense. As the season goes on she is making less turnovers and she is getting smarter in her decisions as point guard.
2. Well after reading all the post that has been made here, I would like to apologize to Coach Marcum, if I offended him or any of his players. That was not my intention. I just had an opinon and didn't mean to hurt any of the players on the team nor did I mean to undermind Coach M. I love SHS and I am a big fan ..win or lose I support my Highlanders. Now offending anyone else I could care less. But if any of the Lady Highlanders or Coach M read this and thought that my post meant that I didn't support them, well then I am very sorry that simply is not true. But to respond to a comment about playing the younger players because they are the future and in building a program that's what you have to do. Well my question is this, are the Freshmen and Sophmores being played now going to be tossed to the side in 2 years when new girls come in? If that is the case, then I can't say that I agree with that. Yes play the young girls , SHS has some awesome young girls. But there always will be fans who think they can do better than the coach does, I don't think I can do better, I just wanted to try and understand why Marcum has been doing what he has been doing. But then again he owes me nothing, I am just a fan that pays 4 bucks at the door to come in and watch the girls win some games. As it is according to most of the replies in here, I don't mean nothing and I know nothing. To the all the Lady Highlanders best of Luck with the rest of your season, keeping playing hard every night, to the young girls I will be watching you over the next few years, and I hope you all can bring home a District title again. To the older girls keep working hard I thank you for the 4 or 3 years you have put your time and effort in. I support you all. and to Coach Marcum good luck and I hope you will be around for many years to come and build the program of your dreams.
3. I used to have a daughter that played at SHS but I don't anymore. All this was, was my opinion, it wasn't gospel. I really do like Marcum, and I was very excited when he came to SHS, and I believe you all are correct that it is his team and he can run it like he wants. But I still don't agree with his rotation lately, and I even left out some girls when I mentioned some that hasn't been played. But this is a place to put up opinions and that's what I did, I don't really care if anyone else agrees with me or not. And I liked Kries last year, I hated to see him go, and if everyone last year thought the younger players needed to be played and this year the older ones need to be played, then I think we are talking about the same group of young girls, because the 2 Seniors and several Juniors this year would have been the young girls from last years team. Because I get on here and give my opinon on something doesn't mean I don't support Marcum or the Lady Highlanders. I love to watch them play and I am a very big fan. I just say what I think, don't really care if anyone else cares or not.
4. I was excited about Coach Marcum when I heard he was coming to SHS, and in the first couple of games I was still excited, but over the last few games, all I keep thinking is..."What the heck is he doing?" He has left his older players on the bench. All he plays are Freshman and Sophmores, not that they shouldn't be played but he has some really descent good Juniors and he has all but left them behind. I know you have to get your young players some action but at the cost of your older players who have already put 2 years in and should be playing? Now I am not saying that Kate Lowe or other young players shouldn't be on the floor, Kate is an awesome point guard and is doing a fine job. But he rarely plays Whitney Strunk, and when he does she makes one mistake and out she comes, and Tara Jeffers has barely played in the last couple of games, and he has completely quit playing Megan Lowe, I just don't understand his reasons behind his coaching lately. I am not the only fan who thinks this way, I have talked to many people who made the very same comments that I have brought up in the thread. What has these olders girls worked so hard for? Just to be overlooked on the bench. Well in my opinon "HIS" young team fell apart in the game with CAK, they were tied up all thru the game and then the Highlanders just fell apart in the last 2 minutes. They lost the game by 10 points. I would like to hear other peoples ideas or comments on this matter. I would like to add that he does play Bobbi Silcox but she is about the only older player that he does play.
5. I have only seen Oneida play one game, and if that is thier usual level of playing, then I would have to say SHS by 20. Especially if Nash and Dusty are having a good night on the 3's. I can't wait till I get to see them play, and I hope everyone behaves themselves so we can see a good game. Good luck SHS!!!!!
6. I think the ladies will be good, I think better than last year. Will they win a district?, I don't really know, but I think they stand a good chance. We have alot of girls coming back that has alot of playing time. Bobbi has lost some weight from last year and that only can make he faster and quicker, Tara has some height and she should do well, the Lowe girl that plays post is kinda short, but if she is anything like her sister was "Jessi"....she will play tough and bigger than what she is, and we have alot of good guards as well.....Acres...Ross...W. Strunk...and a good freshman in the Owens girl, so I think they will do better than they have for a while.
7. .....OK here we go again Ladies. Another coach. I have always been very supportive of the Lady Highlanders, and it has been rough to keep getting new coaches and having to learn a new system, but this time I think we have hit the big times!!!!! Coach Marcum has the desire and love of the game that it takes to make a great basketball program, I am so excited, that I can't wait untill Monday when the season opens. I am not looking for miracles but I am looking for us to compete better. And that's all I have ever wanted out of the Lady Highlanders. If we don't win that's ok as long as we make them beat us and not hand over the victory to them. I hope to see pride in our girls faces again, and that is something that has been missing for a while. I know that the girls love the game in the past but they as well as everyone else expected for us to lose. But it's time to put the past behind us and look to a brighter future, because Lord willing Marcum will stay for many years to come and make Lady Highlander's basketball what it use to be......something to be feared!!!!!! I hope and I am asking that the parents and fans be respectful of Coach Marcum, give him the chance he needs to make this and future teams great. He is a great coach, and I for one am very pleased to have him at SHS!!
8. Well last night was Senior night @ SHS and as always it was sad to watch the kids play their last home game. I just want to tell Amanda Bradley, Brandi Nelson, Merina Ellis, and Amanda Goad, that I have enjoyed watching them play and I will miss them next year. I hope you girls all get out of life what you want, good luck in the future!!! And to next years team, I look forward to watching all you girls play and I hope for some wins in the district too thumb
9. I have never said that Oliver Springs isn't the best in the distirct. I know they are and that is why I was so proud of the Lady Highlanders for bringing their best to them on Tuesday night......But then people come on here and say things that makes it out like Oliver Springs didn't really try and give us a good game. That takes some of the air out of a much better performance by the Lady Highlanders. These girls have been lacking confidence, and they had no respect from alot of teams and fans, that is why I was so happy to see us lose by 14 and not 59 points. I felt like "bballmom" was making excuses as to why SHS stayed so close to The Ladycats. And I got real defensive then, and it made me mad. Nobody is saying that Oliver Springs isn't awesome, I for one agree that they are awesome, and to the people of OS you guys have been on the winning side so long that maybe you have forgotten how hard it is to be at the bottom, so for us a 14 point loss to you guys is almost like a victory for us, it was just a matter of gaining some respect for our girls. They get left out of alot of stuff, everyone stays focused on SHS boys and they deserve that but people need to rememeber that the Lady Highlanders is part of the school too and it would be nice to see the crowd show up and support them like they do the boys. So I conceed that OS is the best but you won't convince me that OS didn't try in the game Tuesday night against us, so to SHS girls you, you played OS every minute of the game and don't let anyone tell you any different, GO SHS!!!!!
10. as I said before........you know whats worse than a sad loser.....a sad, full of excuses winner!!!! Scott girls played a great game and thats all that can be said.....you won, go complain to someone else, but whatever makes you all sleep better at night is fine with me!!!! OS you guys are really sad down there in the cage, hmmmm, sure going to miss you guys next year when you all move to another district. Good luck OS, I hope you get everything you deserve thumb
11. Coach Wright played everyone the last time he played us........
12. yea I know, I used LOL before in a post ......ROTFLMFAO......I will let you figure this one out. and BTW.....means "by the way"........
13. Good Luck Lady Highlanders against CCHS and Jellico, bring home the victories girls, you have proven that you can play with the best ....now go and have fun and play with EMOTION and not just the MOTION thumb I love you girls ...keep up the hard work!!!!!!!
14. Kries has done a great job, and I for one hope he will be back. If I am not wrong we have 7 wins so far this year and that is more than the Lady Highlanders have had in many years, as many as 8 I think. Go Lady Highlanders!!!!!!!!
15. I didn't mean bad as in your not any good, I'm meant bad as in thinking you are unstopable, I know OS is a awesome team and that's why I was singing our girls prasies so much! I was proud for our girls to come out and give a good performance last night, because WE should rememeber the past, SHS needed to rememeber being humilated down at your place so they can come out and play with heart and soul. It just seems like you were making excuses as to why SHS could play as close as we did. So I want to make sure I "UNDERSTAND YOU" . answer this question please. Are you saying that OS did not play their best players and that's why SHS came so close???? Please clarify this matter.
16. Ummmmmm......the remark about Nelson come on is this coming from a school that had Hall , who basically made most of the points!!!!! "not complaining"......get over yourself, of course we only played you guys as close as we did because there were " alot of no calls" and "you played your bench alot", and oh yea it was raining outside and oh yea it was a Tuesday........anymore excuses please by all means let us up here at poor old SHS know about them,,,,,,we will cry you a river!! thumb ......How about last year what was the excuse? you guys killed us at home 90 something to 20 something last year and then came to Scott and we lost by 7 points......Oh let me guess Hall wasn't feeling good WHATEVER!!!! you know whats worse than a sad loser.....a sad, full of excuses winner!!!! Scott girls played a great game and thats all that can be said.....you won, go complain to someone else, but whatever makes you all sleep better at night is fine with me!!!!
17. SO I take it that your statement about the bench means that the only reason Scott kept up with you guys is because the coach played his bench alot....huh!....LOL ok you just keep telling yourself that Ladycats......if I remember right he played his bench down in the cage too........and you guys wiped the floor with us, your bench wiped the floor with us too, it was a score of ummm......let think oh yea 75-16....last night score 55-41...hmmmm..........and he basically used the same game plan as before, so I guess that would mean that the Lady Highlanders played much better and did a good job last night!!!! And if memory serves me right and it usually does thumb .....last year at "THE CAGE" Ladycats beat Scott 90 something to 20 something.......and they came to Scott high and we lost by 7,.....are you guys seeing a pattern here......I think that if you take the Ladycats out of their "CAGE" they ain't as bad and mean as they think they are!!!!! And yes I think that we played them down to the wire, and let me translate that for you OK.......Scott girls didn't give up at all, and they played all the way to the end of the game....to me that means they played down to the wire, give credit where credit is due, you guys won why are you so upset and offend that Scott is proud of how they played . GO SHS!!!!!!!!!!
18. Well Matt they didn't win but they sure did bring them down to size!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the 55-41 score puts that terrible score from the previous game long behind us......what was it again?????? You take the "Cats" out of their cage and they ain't so bad anymore!!!!!! Lady Highlanders sure did win some RESPECT last night!!!!!!!!
19. thumb way to go girls. To all the girls that played last night, AWESOME, I am so proud of you girls. You girls played like I always knew you could and that's what I have been waiting for. You girls played OS with heart and soul and most of all fight. You never gave up and I was so happy to see you girls play like you all did. Everyone did a fantastic job last night...You take this into the next 2 games and into the tourny and you girls will have some wins!!!!!! 55-41...............I am more proud of that score than any of your wins, because you played the best team in the district down to the wire, you let them know that they were in a game and that is all anyone could ask of you all.......see what you girls can do, now go out and beat CCHS and Jellico........best game all year!!!!!!
20. I agree 1 year is not enough!....I want and am in full support of Coach Kries, I have a daughter on the team myself and I like the way Kries has coached and my daughter is not a starter either. My daughter does like Kries and respects him to the upmost but I have to say I have never tryed to get my daughter to go against anything Kries has said or any other coaches she has had in the past. This is what I tell her ...."they" are the coach and you will do what they say or quit at the end of the season!.....my opinon is that all the "mommies & daddies" need to realize that "their baby" isn't the star. I like to watch my daughter play ball very much and I am proud of her when she plays, but I have no misconception that she is some big star that deserves more playing time. If she plays great and if not then I don't freak out or throw some kinda "fit"........there are 5 players at a time on the floor, everyone isn't going to get to play and I think Kries has done a great job!! and as far as his mind games go......well it took my daughter maybe 2 or 3 practices to figure him out, at first she didn't know how to take him at times, but like I said within 3 practices she understood him and has loved him ever since. I agree the parents need to shut up at home and quit filling their kids head with ideas that they are not getting what they deserve, let the coaches do their job and the parents go and watch your kid and just be proud that they are on the team and not out into trouble somewhere!!!!!
21. I have 2 cents to put in about middle school tournements......i played middle school ball.(well then we were just called elementry), and all we had was the county tournement but my 7th grade year our coach wanted to go to a state tournement we had an awesome team that year and a great tradtion. He had us going everywhere to play teams and I mean everywhere because you had to have a good record to be invited. We had a 30-1 record and the loss we had was by 1 point to York. We went to Murfursboro in the small school tournement and we won the thing , it was so awesome and I think its great that the young kids have a chance to go on and play longer seasons and get some experince.More than anything they will make memories because 2 things will happen, they will never play in high school and therefore they will cheris their memories from middle school , as I do, because I didn't go on and play in high school. Or they will play in high school and it won't be such a shock to them the long season and tourenment that high school has. That is just my 2 cents worth thumb
22. I was wondering who the Lady Higlanders will play in the district tournement? I am looing forward to this and I hope the girls put the season past them and look at the tournement like a fresh start, with the exception of OS I believe the girls could beat any of the other teams in the district. These SHS girls underestimate themselves, they can win, they just have to believe in themselves and go out and play hard for 4 quarters. thumb
23. Must've been hard on the boy playing football. He would've lost a year of eligibility moving from SHS to Oneida without a change of residence, and then lost another year when he moved back. I've been around Oneida athletics for for awhile, I have never heard of such a thing.Could you give us a year on when this male athlete was supposedly at Oneida? 825564564 ......I could tell you his name and year and his parents name too but I won't because as I said earlier I regret that I even brought it up in my post, and I am going to drop it, because it is stupid to say stuff about OHS and I am very sorry that I did. My deepest apologies to anyone that read that thread and as I said before I am not going to say another bad word against OHS. I will only say this, he was eligiable because he lives in Oneida anyways, he had always been in the county system and his parents drove him to school. And I think when he came back to SHS for his Senior year after being at Oneida his Junior year, he didn't play football. I know this is true because I go to church with this boy and his family. Good luck to OHS and SHS and I hope they always have winning seasons.
24. I want to say I'm sorry for my previous post about Oneida promising kids things ,to come to their school......while I stand by my statement , it was way out of line and I am sorry that I put that post up and I won't say anything else against OHS!
25. I would imagine that you might be the Sexton girls mom, and I know that you went to SHS and I have nothing against your child or anyone elses that chose to go to Oneida. But I heard that Chelsea didn't want to go to OHS but was made to by her father but I really don't care her reasons for going, she seems to be doing a good job playing ball there and I hope she continues to play. I have heard that Oneida does offers kids playing time and starting postions if they will come to OHS , now before anyone jumps my case, I know of 2 kids for sure were told that, one was back in the 90's and she played ball and the other was just a couple of years ago he played football, and he did leave SHS and go to OHS and they didn't play him like they said they would and he came back to SHS. But it doesn't matter to me where the kids go as long as they are getting a good education and I believe OHS and SHS have awesome teachers and thats what really counts!!!! uote=ladyndnmom,Feb 12 2005 - 11:38 AM] Speaking as a mother of one of the "fish" who went to the smaller pond. My daughter chose to go to Oneida, because that is where her father went, and many of her cousins went there and played football. She was used to going to the games, and had many friends there from church also. After having dealt with another teenager that I am close with, and the struggle that was there to make this teenager go to school, I didn't care where she went, as long as she would go. She did not go to Oneida, because of any of the coaches at SHS or OHS, in fact she was not even going to play ball. The only reason she did was because I made her. I told her that no matter which school she went to, she had to play one year. If she didn't like it after that, then she could quit. She has many friends at SHS, and loves to go to the SHS games and support them. Since our children can get past the SHS/OHS thing, why can't the parents? Before you make judgements about their reasons for going to another school, why don't you show them the decency of asking them. 825562905
