  1. No, what I'm saying is with less than a minute to go and Tn High not having any timeouts left, all you should do is take the knee. The only way Tn High had a shot at the game was for Boone to run it in and miss the XP making it an 8 pt game. Game was over until Boone scored. I actually think Stubbs knew that and let them score. If he knew that and would have let us score, he would have told everyone to back off and not touch him. I was at the game and the TN High defense was winded and couldn't stop him. They ran the same play 8 times in a row. You say it was a bad coaching decision but it worked out? The "sense" thing was to take the knee, but that TD also took a lot more wind out of TN High. Yeah, they had a chance, but the odds were stacked even better on our part. What if we snapped the knee snap? What if someone ended up getting hurt? What if what if what if? What if we would have stopped St Clair on one of those TD's during one of the games, then it is closer? We can always sit back and ask what if my friend. And if he is such a bad coach....you have to admit he did find ways to beat the two teams that South lost to this year, TN High and the other DB. Just going back and forth with the argument, lightheartedly. Again, I would have taken the knee but it all worked out perfectly. TN High hadn't thrown the ball all night long, and when they did the last play of the game, Boone intercepted it easily. We made them desperate. Maybe he is thinking about other things than you or me are, who knows. Oh and to an earlier response, good luck to your team as well. If anyone deserves some time to sit back and have some time to reflect on their year and finally have some mourning time, it is the community, players, and coaches at South. Nothing but respect coming from the people of Gray buddy. Okay, I'll be honest here, it didn't even occur to the Boone staff to take the knee. I was just pulling the old "Stacy is smarter than Jeremy" card. Shouldn't have. They both are fine coaches. I'll shut up. Good luck next season. I really think you guys will be right there.
  2. Not being defensive. I love tapping into the brain of a football genius like yourself. The game wasn't over the way Jenkins played it. That's my point. The ONLY way Tn High had a chance was for Boone to run it. Only chance was A) Boone fumbles B ) Boone scores and misses the PAT. Jeremy shouldn't have chanced it. Bad coaching decision that ended up working out. It happens.

Two things Scotty: As we now know, the game was over before Boone scored the last time because Tennessee High never scored again. And do you actually think Stubbs would let them score "hoping they would miss the extra point" Get real! You should be able to come up with a better example than that. Okay, tell me what Stubbs would do if Boone takes a knee?
  4. I don't know about the end of the game. I, like you, thought he would take the knee. I think the momentum was going so strong that he might as well keep running it. I don't believe Shropshire had a fumble all year and he was getting 5 to 6 yards a play down near the goal line, plus it taking about 4 to 5 guys to tackle him...momentum could really be a factor against TN High and make them feel desperate. If you are up there, then just keep drilling it home until you get the TD. A score did put TN High in a desperate place, since I think we were up by 9 by that time and they couldn't win UNLESS they got 2 TD or a TD and a field goal. I think with the time left, the only way you would get the TD was a long throw and to be honest, that game not one deep ball got down there so you can sit 2 FS back there and just let you catch it if you want, we still can get you stopped and run more of the clock. So you were left with what, about 45 seconds to get two scores, plus you'd have to get that onside kick. A lot of perfection was needed to get that done, and I think any team in the country would be hard put to do something like that. You saw the end result, so it didn't matter since he did do that. I guess when you are down there that close, might as well stick it end but I do see your point of view on it. Also, what if some TN High players decided they HAD to get the ball in the victory set and went for knees? I'd rather someone get hurt trying to run the ball in than a senior feeling desperate go and get a free shot. And no, TN High was full of class this year so I doubt they would do it, but it could happen. 5. I'm not saying Jenkins couldn't go to the Hill and make them successful, but "one of the two smartest football minds"?? Are you serious? I hate to ruffle some Blazer feathers but I just don't get that statement at all. I've seen several coaching mistakes by Jenkins in the past. He's a good motivator and a decent coach. He's been very fortunate with the start of a good run of athletes at Boone. The Gray area has really exploded and he's been the benefactor. He's very good for Boone. Nothing more, nothing less. I do think Boone will be in the running for a conference title next year. If you ever have the chance and sit down with both of them or one of them, you get them talking figures and stuff, you'll know what I mean. Can't argue against your opinion cause well, it is your opinion. Based on what happened this year, very few mistakes happened but sure, I bet there were some. But the sign of a good coach is one who learns from his mistakes, just like how a person becomes a better person. Another note, there is a huge deal of respect for his dad, Jerry Jenkins, from all the football boys who played under him. I had the pleasure of being able to play for him, to see HIS passion and his dedication and his love for the game, and I know it is my own opinion, but I find it harder to find someone else who you want to have there for you. I know people from other schools will remember that coach who just knew what to say to get you motivated, but that was his dad. He knows the game, he's coached it enough years that he can talk about stuff you couldn't imagine someone remembering, and no... you didn't ruffle any feathers cause each community that supports their own coach will say hey I had that coach and they knew this and that. I can understand that Vol. If we really want to go down the list, we can sit here and name the Stubbs, Graham, Greene, etc coaches who I've seen mistakes from, but its all the outside perspective so nope, no feathers ruffled on my behalf. Won't see me say Carter tho cause we just haven't been able to hit that nail since he has come to South, but I honestly hope he stays cause I'd rather Boone beat him at South than SH, you can understand that from a Blazer perspective I'm sure. As far as a conference title...forget those thoughts this early cause as you saw from this past season, it didn't look like Boone had a shot in the dark from pre-season, the South game showed light, the DB game showed shock, and the TN High game (first one) was a let down but it helped us down the road actually. Great year for my boys, but they have a lot to build on and just need that intentsity to win it one game at a time, take names, and whip every single one every single week. By the time their done, if they knocked everyone down and have a title, great, if not, we learn from our mistakes and move on. His Dad does know his stuff. You are correct. Jeremy will eventually get there I feel. Like you said, we all have our opinions. I like Jeremy a lot. He's great for Boone and Boone is great for him. I was just stating my opinion of what I know of his knowledge of the game at this point in his career. And what I know of him while he was here. He looked lost in the second half of our playoff game with you. But, that can happen to the best of them I guess. We were keeping tabs with your game in the playoffs with Tn High too. And for the life of me, I can't figure out why he didn't take a knee at the end of that one. The ONLY chance the Vikings had at the end was for Boone to score the TD. I guess he just got caught up in the emotions of the game that time. But, he's a good one and will only get better. I've seen Stacy make some "weird" calls too. Especially early in his career. But, he's like a fine wine, he's getting better with age. Good luck to you guys next year.
  6. I think Coach Jenkins blood runs red and gold, at least when I've known him growing up and talked to him. I, personally, would have a hard time imagining him elsewhere because he simply loves Boone that much. Perhaps one of the two smartest football minds I know. The other is his dad. Could he do it? Without a doubt, he can do a lot and is really just at the beginning of a long career. Since he has been at Boone, the winning percentage has to be better than Coach Greene, and it seems based on this year that things are slowly but surely getting better. As far as diciplinarian...well everyone knows what his position is outside of football at Boone, so I don't think would be too big of a problem. 7. If the staff is smart (and I think they are) Cook will be handing to Swafford and throwing to Foreman for the next 3 years. But, what do I know, I'm a dumb old Souther.
  8. Good one CD! Who would believe that?? Seriously though, that was scary! Lord, everyone better get them now, because..................... Just curious Volman....who impressed you more, Shannon Hale or the South team? I know,I know..the Hill is very young....I see them playing at state for the next 3 with Will and Shannon leading them, but anything they do this year will be gravy...still would you ever believe a South boys team would have a legitimate shot to win the Big 8 in basketball? When you stop to think about it ,this is an exceptional group of Sr. athletes at South High this year. I was impressed by both actually. I have to say though, I think the Hill will still be the team to beat come playoff time. You are correct, we are blessed with a great group of Sr.'s. I've never minced my words on our basketball program though. It'll be a shame if this group doesn't win the conference.
  9. Good one CD! Who would believe that?? Seriously though, that was scary! Lord, everyone better get them now, because.....................
  10. I'm not disputing what you are saying but 3X Jenkins's salary seemed kinda high to me. Isn't Jenkins a principle too? That would put 3X his salary well over 150K right? I don't see it from a basketball school. But, who knows?
  11. I agree with most everything in this post except the part of the new coach making 3x Jenkins' current salary. How much did they pay Smith?
  12. Anyone who knows Coach Jenkins knows he wanted to be at Boone. he left South simply to be at Boone, the school he came from. Lives in Gray right next to the school and well...I really don't see why he would go to SH. Especially when his group coming in could possibly be even better than this years team. Carter got the same opportunity, brought a lot of success to South...and the last time they searched for a coach, coach carter was in the running for the job. It's open again, he has the success, and there you go. I put Stubbs on there simply because it might be a change of scenery and a higher division of football. he's done well for TN High but...for the next few years he will not have the same calibur team he did this year. They will be a good team, but not great like their 11-1 team. New stadium, possibly higher pay, larger school to coach at...I'd say it would be an opportunity for him. When Jenkins left South, it was a win/win for both South and Boone. You wanted Jenkins, we wanted Carter. Not that Jenkins wasn't a good coach, but just that Carter is better for us. I'd say most people in this area would love to see Carter go to SH. Especially Boone faithful. But, the reasons you listed that Jenkins wouldn't go to SH, is the same reasons Carter wouldn't go. Bottom line is, if enough money is put on the table, anyone could go. SH has potential to be great. If the right coach goes there, look out.
  13. I'm working on a 5* QB recruit right now. Give me time. I hope to have him committed by the Christmas break. We'd like to have him in camp for spring practice.
  14. While I agree with some of the above, I will continue to disagree with some decisions made by Carter and crew. I hope they all stay at South, but no altar worshiping here. If Weston (who will not be there next year) likes to play sophs to get lock downs by senior year, where were all those juniors and seniors he developed the last two years? "Getting their yards" and "Mr. Football" awards should be secondary to winning games and developing the team. <----Period. If 8 or 9 players play both ways the whole game, while your opponent is substituting freely, in the close games that matter, I'll put my money on the fresher team every time. Out of 70+ players there has to be players that have close to the skill levels needed to keep everybody fresh. Could it be that it is just more time efficient to develop 20 and not 70+? That at least would keep the coaches fresh. While I agree with you to a certain extent J, I have to ask you, how many times in the last few years have we lost a game because of tired players? I've never been on a team or been associated with a team that I couldn't look on the sidelines and wonder why a certain player wasn't getting some playing time. That happens on every team. I think all in all this staff does a great job. You can't argue with success. I do think the next few years are going to be a challenge. Line play will be the determining factor. And after next year, QB play. We've been very fortunate the last few years to have some good QB's come through the pipeline. I think we have a diamond in the rough on the freshman squad though. Time will tell.
  15. Yes and she wanted to know by 1:00 today but you can still get in, but hurry!
  16. I know this. I was referring to his youth coaches all the way through middle school. He should have been taught then. If anyone can do it though, SC can. He will not put players on the field that act that way. Some area coaches will, but not SC.
  17. I thought like you when I read Volman referring to Coach Jenkins as JJ. We are so clued in to our own JJ and his potential. Trust the coaches.JJ is enrolled in the process. He will emerge next season. Fruit ripens in its own time. This harvest will begin with Knox West. Yes CD, I was referring to Coach Jenkins. Sorry for the confusion. I, like you, thought it was comical right before half when Boone had the panic attack. Now, as for our JJ, CD is correct. Well, Comp you are correct too. JJ is a yes sir no sir kinda kid off the field/court. But, as you've probably seen, when he is on the field/court, well, I don't know what to say. I'll just leave it at this, he needs to mature. I'm glad SC is teaching him some life lessons. Hopefully it will sink in and I think it will. Several coaches are to blame for this. Should have been addressed years ago. Like you said though, if it doesn't work out, it'll be a shame.
  18. I love the kid, but the adjustment had to be made. He was getting beat badly and looked very lost out there. After the adjustment was made Boone was done. The wheels pretty much fell off for Jenkins and Co. near the end of the 2nd quarter. Panic set in. If JJ had it to do over again, I bet he goes ahead and lets us kick the FG without calling the first TO. Stacy schooled him.
  19. All of this info is well and good, but I'm still trying to figure out AC's win over Clinton.
  20. These posts are quite funny. It's obvious that a couple of you Boone posters are thinking you are going to blow us out. That's fine. And it might happen. But, if you think it, go ahead and say it. I like that, "if South is kept in the game......". Kept in the game is how I like to put it if you don't sieze opportunities and score, or you keep giving the other team chances when you are in control. Take last game....plain and simple yeah, St. tore up the defense and made up for the fumbles....and all it would have taken for Boone to win the game was to hit him at the line at least 3 times. Those long runs kept South in the game, gave their team a lot of momentum, and it carried over to OT. South made plays, Boone didn't. Boone has had bad luck with teams staying close and losing to them. Cherokee and Volunteer the past couple of years have been beat the first half, then let in the game and came up and beat ya. If South thinks they have a chance still with 6 minutes left....they win. Boone will have to put this South team away with a big lead to win the game. Call it a salute to hard nosed South never give up attitude, not a put down. I still think it is a shoot out. South and TN High are two different animals. Boone had the answers to one of those challenges, but the second is yet to be seen. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, it won't be an easy game for either team. Anyone thinking differently is out of their mind. Well then, I just hope and pray "we still have a chance with 6 minutes left". And I'm glad you are giving us "the benefit of doubt".
